The relevance of the research is accounted for by the necessity to generalize the experience of intensive development of artificial intelligence in education. The aforementioned necessity urges modern educators and educational institutions to address and scientifically generalize a number of issues, such as the identification of the potential of artificial intelligence as a means of digital didactics and the analysis of threats associated with artificial intelligence. The authors maintain that the development of artificial intelligence increases its educational potential as a teacher, a partner, and a computer assistant. Computers can process enormous amounts of data, they can provide voice prompts to guide a person through sequenced series of actions, they can provide chat assistance in online learning, etc. However, the process of implementing AI education is fraught with technological, informational, methodological and psychological problems. The most obvious problems are absence of methodological foundations and methodological guidelines to govern the implementation of AI education, insufficient IT competence of both trainers and trainees, which hinders efficient application of existing technologies in education. The article treats the results of a survey that included 248 undergraduate and graduate students majoring in pedagogy. The aim of the survey was to investigate students’ attitude to the use of artificial intelligence in education. The survey was conducted online, the subjects of the survey were asked to complete Google Forms. The experience of organizing the educational process during the quarantine caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is considered. Using of interactive technologies that allow organizing instant audio communication with a remote audience, as well as intelligent tools based on artificial intelligence that can help educational institutions to work more efficiently. Examples of sufficient use of artificial intelligence in distance learning are given. Particular attention is paid to the development of intelligent chatbots intended for use in communications with students of online courses of educational web portals. The use of technologies of ontology formation based on automatic extraction of concepts from external sources is offered, what can lead to greater acceleration of construction of the intellectual component of chatbots. Artificial intelligence tools can become an essential part of distance learning during this global COVID-19 pandemic. While educational institutions are closed to quarantine and many of them transitioned to distance learning lecturers and schoolteachers, as well as students and schoolchildren faced with the necessity to study in this new reality. The impact of these changes depends on people's ability to learn and on the role that the education system will play in meeting the demand for quality and affordable training. The experience of organizing the educational process at the University of Education Management of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine in the quarantine caused by the COVID-19 pandemic showed that higher and postgraduate institutions were mostly ready to move to distance learning. However, most distance learning systems, on whatever platform they are organized, need to be supplemented: the ability to broadcast video (at least ‒ one-way streaming), providing fast transmission of various types of information, receiving instant feedback when voting, polls and more. The structure of each section of the training course for the online learning system should fully cover the training material and meet all the objectives of the course. Appropriate language should be used, and wording, syntax, and presentation of tasks should be considered. One of the areas of application of artificial intelligence technologies in online learning is the use of chatbots which are characterrized by the following properties. It is advisable to use computer ontologies to ensure the intellectualization of chatbots. In this case, the metadata must be understandable to both humans and software and meet the requirements of modern standards in the field of information technology. The extraction of concepts from external data sources was carried out to build the ontology.

The article is devoted to the study of the influence of artificial intelligence on modern education, analysis of the prospects of artificial intelligence application in higher education institutions and problems arising as a result. The authors note that the future of higher education is inextricably linked to the development of information technologies and intellectual machines. The prospects of artificial intelligence open up new opportunities in teaching and learning in higher education institutions with powerful potential to change even the management system of educational institutions itself. The authors study the history of artificial intelligence since the 14th century, when Raimund Lullius proposed the idea of implementing reasoning and thought processes in an intellectual machine. The article uses methods of complex theoretical and descriptive analysis. The scientific novelty of the work is that the authors of the article have found that the effectiveness of use of artificial intelligence in education can be represented by the following functions: automation, integration, acclimation, distinction, identification. The authors argue that the increasing use of artificial intelligence in universities and schools also puts ethical questions at the forefront. Now organisations must consider what type of data is collected, how that information is used and what controls are in place to protect the privacy of students and schoolchildren. Practical significance of the work: in addition to functions reflecting the effectiveness of the use of artificial intelligence in the educational process, the authors have determined the positive aspects of the introduction of artificial intelligence in education. The results of the study: the authors of the article conclude that at present universities need to rethink their function and pedagogical models of education in relation to artificial intelligence, as higher education institutions open up extensive opportunities due to the application of artificial intelligence in the educational process.
