This paper provides the first comprehensive information on the Length-Weight Relationship (LWR) of Scoranza bleak (Alburnus scoranza) from the Lake Skadar. The results of the study showed that LWR was different in young and older individual fish. We concluded that no single regression would adequately describe the length-weight relationship for  Scoranza bleak in the winter period. Small fish, up to one year old, have positive allometric growth whereas older and larger, negative. The results of this study show that the animals grow equally in the same pattern in both localities (Raduš and Karuč) which shows that there are no two stocks as it was assumed in the past. The condition factor in young Scoranza bleaks was lower than in the elderly. Condition factor decreased significantly during the winter period in older specimens. Based on this, we conclude that Scoranza bleak during the winter is poorly fed/starved, which causes a decrease in the condition factor.Analysis of the total sample, of any species, cannot show by what rule the population grows, if infrapopulation variability is present, because the studied value will depend on the number of individual subgroups. If no infra-population variability is found, the required parameter for the entire population can be calculated. In order to determine population variability, multiple groups must be singled out. Preferably, the number of stratified samples should be at least 6 so that correlation-regression analysis can be performed. In stratified samples, the number of individuals should be between 30-40, for any parameter, in order to compare their mean values. The results of the study show that 50 individuals are sufficient for accurate determination of LWR (or ???? and b, ???? is a constant coefficient and b is the slope of the curve.), when it is determined that there is no intrapopulation variability.

Currently skipjack tuna resources have been showing signs of over fishing. Indications were, among others, characterized by a decrease in the catch and the size of the individual, changes in the composition of the catch and the trend of increasing proportions of several types of small fish. Length frequency data collected from March until December 2007 amounted 4,293. Length and weight measurements to determine the length and weight relationship of fish conducted in March, May, July, and December 2007 with a total sample was 296. This paper presents information about the distribution of length and weight, length and weight relationship and the length at first capture (Lc) caught by pole and liner operating in theBanda Sea. The analysis showed that the skipjack tuna has a long range between 30-78 cmFL and weight range between 600-4300 g. Regression analysis of length and weight relationship equation was W=0.0485 L2.751, R2=0.9427 with regression coefficient (r)=0.9709, and slope value (b)=2.751. Result show that the growth pattern of skipjack tuna was negative allometric. The length at first captured (Lc) of skipjack was 41.7 cmFL.

Two species from the genus Rutilus (Rafinesque, 1820), R. prespensis and R. albus inhabit Lake Skadar. The conditional factor (K) and length-weight relationships (LWRs) of 165 specimens were studied from January 2008 to January 2009. Based on the LWRs, it was found that R. albus exhibited isometric growth to the stage of sexual maturity, after which it exhibited allometric growth; R. prespensis, exhibited only allometric growth. The conditional factor for the both species significantly differed between months. The spawning period of R. albus began in February, while for R. prespensis it was April-May.

The length-weight relationship and variation of condition factor in relation to the total length (TL) of Trachurus trachurus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Trachurus mediterraneus (Steindachner, 1868) were studied. Samples were collected in the eastern Adriatic Sea using bottom-trawl during 2008 and 2009. The b values for males, females and total sample showed that the growth of T. trachurus was isometric, i.e. equal in length and weight. The growth of the males and females of T. mediterraneus was positively allometric while the total sample (males, female and immature) showed isometric growth. The condition factor was calculated indicating the smallest values in immature specimens. The highest values of condition factor for males and females of both species were observed in the range of TL from 16 to 19 cm and 31 to 33 cm, respectively.

Background: Vietnam is entering the stage of aging population; as a result, the quality of life (QOL) of the elderly is really a matter of concern. There is a great deal of research on the quality of life of the elderly while Vietnam witnesses a lack of research on this topic, especially on how physical and social activities have impact on QOL of the elderly. Objectives: (1) To describe the situation of participation in physical, social activities and QOL of the elderly residing in Truong An Ward, Hue city. (2) To examine the association between physical, social activities and QOL among participants. Methodology: This study used cross-sectional study design. A total sample of 420 people aged 60 and above in Truong An Ward, Hue city were interviewd. The SF36 was used to measure the QOL of participants. Results: Percentage of the elderly taking part in physical activity were 66%. 49% reported having the habit of taking part in social activities. The majority of the elderly get their QOL level in three health fields, namely physical, mental and general health at above average. (56.0, 60.7 and 60.8 respectively). There were significant associations between physical activities, social activities and QOL among participants. Conclusion: The percentage of the elderly taking part in physical and social activities were still low. Besides, QOL of the elderly at the research location was not really high. It’s important to encourage the elderly taking part in physical and social activities to improve their quality of life. Key words: Physical activities, social activities, QOL, the elderly

Background.Matrix metalloproteinases, such as stromelysin-1, are implicated in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD) and acute myocardial infarction (MI). A 5A/6A promoter polymorphism can regulate the transcription of the stromelysin-1 gene in an allele-specific manner. Evidence has been presented that the 6A allele is associated with the progression of coronary heart disease (CHD). In contrast, the 5A allele may be linked to the risk of MI.Results.To analyse the relation of the 5A/6A polymorphism with the risk and severity of CHD and the risk of MI, a case-control study of 515 healthy controls and 1848 participants who underwent coronary angiography for diagnostic purposes was conducted. In the total sample, the mean CHD scores—according to Gensini—were different between 5A/6A genotypes: 5A5A homozygotes had the lowest, 6A6A genotypes the highest and 5A6A heterozygotes intermediate scores. These differences were even more pronounced when the participants were restricted to individuals with a high coronary risk profile (high apoB levels, high Lp(a) levels, high glucose levels, combinations of either high apoB and Lp(a) levels or high apoB, Lp(a) and glucose plasma levels). Mean values were used as cut points for high-risk populations, respectively. In contrast, the 5A allele was not associated with the risk of CHD or MI. Even when angiographically controlled individuals without MI were compared with MI patients in subpopulations of participants with no, single, double and triple vessel disease, the frequencies of the 5A/6A and/or the 5A5A genotypes were not higher in each subgroup, respectively.Conclusions.The present results do not confirm an association of the 5A allele with the risk of MI, observed in another investigation, but strengthen the hypothesis of earlier studies that the 6A allele is a disease marker for progression of coronary heart disease. Further investigations should evaluate whether 6A allele carriers and especially 6A homozygotes might benefit from a more aggressive therapy against CHD progression.

The condition factor is a parameter which acts as a general indicator of the "well-being" of a species, and it can be obtained through the analysis of width vs. weight relationships. The present work aims to investigate size vs. weight relationship and the condition factor of the crab Goniopsis cruentata (Latreille, 1803). The study area was the Mundaú/Manguaba estuarine complex, Maceió, state of Alagoas, Northeast Brazil. Samplings were monthly accomplished from August 2007 to July 2008. A total of 626 individuals were analyzed, being 309 males and 317 females. Males were larger and heavier than females, what is expected in many brachyuran. The growth was positive allometric to both males (b = 3.42) and females (b = 3.30), not obeying the "cube law". The condition factor of female was higher than that of male crabs, probably due to the gonad weight of females. It also varied seasonally for both sexes, being higher in the autumn and winter in males, and in the autumn and spring in females, and related to the molt and period of spawning intensification.

Background: Health practitioners around the world are now dealing withincreasing health problems, including oral disease. One of them is tooth loss.Losing teeth can cause problems or disturbances in the main functions of teeth(mastication, aesthetics and phonetics). These conditions can be overcome byusing denture. If the loss of untreated teeth doesnt restored using denture, it will cause the function of the missing tooth can not be restored, which will result in disruption of nutritional status and quality of life of the elderly. This study aimed to determine the relationship of tooth loss with nutritional status in elderly society in the Penatahan village Penebel Tabanan. Methods: The research was an observational analytic study with cross sectionalresearch design. Total sampling used with total sample 109 people. The datawere collected by filling the dental chart, measuring IMT and interview using theOHIP-14 questionnaire. Results: The results showed 65.1% respondents had loss <6 teeth, 42.2%respondents had obesity, 75.2% respondents observed poor quality of life. Dataanalyzed using kolmogorov smirnov obtained p = 0,952 for relationship betweentooth loss with nuturional status and p = 0.676 for relationship between useof denture with nutritional status. Chi square used to test relationship betweentooth loss with quality of life (p= 0,735) and use of denture with quality of lifeshowed p = 0,139.Conclusions: The conclusion is there is no relationship between tooth lossand use of denture with nutritional status and quality of life in elderly society inPenatahan Village Penebel Tabanan
