The article provides a methodology for calculating the basic elements and characteristics of river dredgers at the stages of research design by means of the statistical method. For the study, the most common projects of river non-self-propelled dredgers with both a residential superstructure and without it, in a wide range of soil productivity, were used. The dependences of the total displacement and the main engine power on such basic technical data as suction dredger performance and loosening depth were analyzed in detail. Graphic dependencies and analytical expressions for determining the main suction dredger dimensions were obtained. The issue of choosing the length of the main dredger compartments is considered, which allows to solve the problem of pre-splitting the hull into compartments. The analysis of the accuracy of the obtained statistical dependencies for determining the length of the vessel is provided.

Abstract The article presents an influence of foundations of slow-speed main engine body on the results of numerical analysis of the engine dynamic stiffnesses and thermal deformations. The engine body is much stiffer than its foundation pads and ship hull (double bottom) – boundary conditions of the engine. Especially for the high power, marine engines, the correct model of the boundary conditions plays a key role during the analyses. Therefore, modelling method of engine foundation (boundary conditions) of that kind of model is essential during the analyses. During shaft line alignment and crankshaft springing analyses, knowledge of dynamic stiffnesses characteristics and thermal displacements of radial (main) bearings is significant. Those data of marine main engine body are difficult to estimate because of lack of available documentation and complicated shape of the engine and ship hull. The article presents the methodology of the characteristics determination of the marine engine's body as well as the example of computations for a MAN B&W K98MC type engine (power: 40000 kW, revolutions: 94 rpm) mounted on a 3000 TEU (twenty-foot container equivalent unit) container ship (length: 250 m). Numerical analyses were performed with usage of Nastran software based on Finite Element Method. The FEM model of the engine body comprised over 800 thousand degree of freedom.

Purpose. The paper compares the traditional method of calculating the parameters of electric motion of ships in auxiliary emergency modes at low speeds of the vessel with another, simplified because it does not require the use of a large number of diagrams to determine the resistance of the vessel. But according to a simplified method for this example – a container ship with a capacity of 16,000 containers with the main engine capacity of 61776 kW, a synchronous machine with a capacity of up to 6 MW in engine mode, and three diesel generators with an electric capacity of 3187 kW – 39 % more power is obtained. Own experience of operation of the vessel in modes with electric movement – loading of diesel generators in this mode on the vessel about 70 % that is received by calculations. Thus, when upgrading the propulsion system or designing new vessels, it is advisable to compare the results of two calculations of the power of diesel generators at the limit of the minimum stable speed of the main engine and choose the larger of the results. Methodology. Comparison of specific and absolute fuel consumption, made on the basis of known approximation polynomials for low- and high-speed types of diesel of the company at auxiliary emergency movement shows that at the movement from high-speed diesel generators MAK8M32S fuel consumption decreases by 24 %, then at the maintenance of the main engine 12 RTflex-96C from WÄRTSILÄ-SULZER. Results. Therefore, the use of electric motion allows you to save engine power of the main engine, reduce fuel consumption. This ratio is observed on most maritime transport vessels. And given that diesel generators operate at almost optimal load, and the main engine – at idle, electric motion provides a significant reduction in harmful emissions into the atmosphere. The latter is also true for a ship where the synchronous engine is located behind the main engine, although fuel consumption, in this case, increases by 32 %. Figures 9, tables 6, references 15.

A new statistical method for response steepest improvement is proposed. This method is based on an initial experiment performed on two-level factorial design and first-order statistical linear model with coded numerical factors and response variables. The factors for the runs of response steepest improvement are estimated from the data of initial experiment and determination of the conditional extremum. Confidence intervals are determined for those factors. The first-order polynomial response function fitted to the data of the initial experiment makes it possible to predict the response of the runs for response steepest improvement. The linear model of the response prediction, as well as the results of the estimation of the parameters of the linear model for the initial experiment and factors for the experiments of the steepest improvement of the response, are used when finding prediction response intervals in these experiments. Kknowledge of the prediction response intervals in the runs of steepest improvement of the response makes it possible to detect the results beyond their limits and to find the limiting values of the factors for which further runs of response steepest improvement become ineffective and a new initial experiment must be carried out.

Method of data collectionwas done with interviews, documentation, and observations through fieldwork (field research).The results of the research on the process of discussion of the draft local regulations andmutual agreement about Designation of Indigenous Villages in the Rokan Hulu is, showed thatthe political dynamics that occur due to the presence of various political interests, rejectionorally by Villagers who were judged to have met the requirements of Draft Regulations to beformulated and the area for the set to be Indigenous Villages, and also there is a desire fromsome villages in the yet to Draft local regulations in order to set the Indigenous village , there isa wide range of interests of these aspects influenced the agreement to assign the entire localVillage which is in the Rokan Hulu become Indigenous village, and the village of Transmigrationinto administrative Villages where the initiator of the changes in the number of IndigenousVillages in the Rokan Hulu it is the desire of the local Government of its own.

The study is devoted to the mathematical description of the process of oil outflow in places of leakage of the tubing string, which allows a computer to locate a leakage in the tubing. The authors propose methodology for identifying defects in the tubing and determining the location of the leak. The uniqueness of this methodology lies in quick determination of the place of leakage without the use of specialists, sophisticated and specialized equipment. Mathematical modeling of oil flow in the tubing requires the apparatus of continuum mechanics. It is a general belief that the movement of oil in the pipe flows at low speeds due to its outflow from the hole. Using the general equations of mass and energy balance, the authors have obtained differential equations of fluid motion in a vertical pipe in the process of its outflow from the tubing and in the process of injection. Analytical expressions are the solution to these equations, as they can help in estimating the degree of damage and its location, as well as the feasibility of its eliminating. The results show that an increase in the leakage and injection times leads to improving accuracy of locating damage. Thus, when conducting various geological and technical measures (GTM) at the well, it is possible to assess the presence of leakage and its intensity when deciding on the repair of tubing.

Environmental tobacco smoke exposure (ETS) and smoking have been described as the most prevalent factors in the development of certain diseases worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, more than 8 million people die every year due to exposure to tobacco, around 7 million due to direct ETS and the remaining due to exposure to second-hand smoke. Both active and second-hand exposure can be measured and controlled using specific biomarkers of tobacco and its derivatives, allowing the development of more efficient public health policies. Exposure to these compounds can be measured using different methods (involving for instance liquid- or gas-chromatographic procedures) in a wide range of biological specimens to estimate the type and degree of tobacco exposure. In recent years, a lot of research has been carried out using different extraction methods and different analytical equipment; this way, liquid–liquid extraction, solid-phase extraction or even miniaturized procedures have been used, followed by chromatographic analysis coupled mainly to mass spectrometric detection. Through this type of methodologies, second-hand smokers can be distinguished from active smokers, and this is also valid for e-cigarettes and vapers, among others, using their specific biomarkers. This review will focus on recent developments in the determination of tobacco smoke biomarkers, including nicotine and other tobacco alkaloids, specific nitrosamines, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, etc. The methods for their detection will be discussed in detail, as well as the potential use of threshold values to distinguish between types of exposure.

This study aims to investigate the applicability of a hybrid electrochemical sensor composed of cork and graphite (Gr) for detecting caffeine in aqueous solutions. Raw cork (RAC) and regranulated cork (RGC, obtained by thermal treatment of RAC with steam at 380 °C) were tested as modifiers. The results clearly showed that the cork-graphite sensors, GrRAC and GrRGC, exhibited a linear response over a wide range of caffeine concentration (5–1000 µM), with R2 of 0.99 and 0.98, respectively. The limits of detection (LOD), estimated at 2.9 and 6.1 µM for GrRAC and GrRGC, suggest greater sensitivity and reproducibility than the unmodified conventional graphite sensor. The low-cost cork-graphite sensors were successfully applied in the determination of caffeine in soft drinks and pharmaceutical formulations, presenting well-defined current signals when analyzing real samples. When comparing electrochemical determinations and high performance liquid chromatography measurements, no significant differences were observed (mean accuracy 3.0%), highlighting the potential use of these sensors to determine caffeine in different samples.

Acute febrile illnesses occur frequently in Guinea. Acute fever itself is not a unique, hallmark indication (pathognomonic sign) of any one illness or disease. In the infectious disease context, fever’s underlying cause can be a wide range of viral or bacterial pathogens, including the Ebola virus. In this study, molecular and serological methods were used to analyze samples from patients hospitalized with acute febrile illness in various regions of Guinea. This analysis was undertaken with the goal of accomplishing differential diagnosis (determination of causative pathogen) in such cases. As a result, a number of pathogens, both viral and bacterial, were identified in Guinea as causative agents behind acute febrile illness. In approximately 60% of the studied samples, however, a definitive determination could not be made.

This publication presents the results of complex parametrical strength investigations of typical wings for regional aircrafts obtained by means of the new version of the four-level algorithm (FLA) with the modified module responsible for the analysis of aerodynamic loading. This version of FLA, as well as a base one, is focused on significant decreasing time and labor input of a complex strength analysis of airframes by using simultaneously different principles of decomposition. The base version includes four-level decomposition of airframe and decomposition of strength tasks. The new one realizes additional decomposition of alternative variants of load cases during the process of determination of critical load cases. Such an algorithm is very suitable for strength analysis and designing airframes of regional aircrafts having a wide range of aerodynamic concepts. Results of validation of the new version of FLA for a high-aspect-ratio wing obtained in this work confirmed high performance of the algorithm in decreasing time and labor input of strength analysis of airframes at the preliminary stages of designing. During parametrical design investigation, some interesting results for strut-braced wings having high aspect ratios were obtained.

Ticagrelor is an antiplatelet agent which is extensively metabolized in an active metabolite: AR-C124910XX. Ticagrelor antagonizes P2Y12 receptors, but recently, this effect on the central nervous system has been linked to the development of dyspnea. Ticagrelor-related dyspnea has been linked to persistently high plasma concentrations of ticagrelor. Therefore, there is a need to develop a simple, rapid, and sensitive method for simultaneous determination of ticagrelor and its active metabolite in human plasma to further investigate the link between concentrations of ticagrelor, its active metabolite, and side effects in routine practice. We present here a new method of quantifying both molecules, suitable for routine practice, validated according to the latest Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines, with a good accuracy and precision (<15% respectively), except for the lower limit of quantification (<20%). We further describe its successful application to plasma samples for a population pharmacokinetics study. The simplicity and rapidity, the wide range of the calibration curve (2–5000 µg/L for ticagrelor and its metabolite), and high throughput make a broad spectrum of applications possible for our method, which can easily be implemented for research, or in daily routine practice such as therapeutic drug monitoring to prevent overdosage and occurrence of adverse events in patients.
