Reading in the system of spiritual and moral education of the sudent community

Spiritual and moral education of the student community is one of the topical subjects discussed by both the scientific community, public authorities and social organizations. Reading plays a particular role in this process. Firstly, it serves as a tool for formation of moralities, secondly, it is a practice that facilitates socialization, and thirdly, reading is one of the basic values to transfer from generation to generation. Scientific literature has accumulated expertise in interdisciplinary analysis of reading practices. This paper presents the findings of the sociological survey conducted among Russian university students. The authors made conclusions about activity-related and axiological components of reading practices as far as university students are concerned. Students from three cities — Moscow, Volgograd and Astrakhan — shared their views on reading and then the opinion findings were submitted to comparative analysis. The research revealed common trends as well as peculiar reading practices of students from different cities. The research outlined the prospects for further investigation into reading practices as part of spiritual and moral education.

AbstractRepeatability is the cornerstone of science and it is particularly important for systematic reviews. However, little is known on how database and search engine choices influence replicability. Here, we present a comparative analysis of time-synchronized searches at different locations in the world, revealing a large variation among the hits obtained within each of the several search terms using different search engines. We found that PubMed and Scopus returned geographically consistent results to identical search strings, Google Scholar and Web of Science varied substantially both in the number of returned hits and in the list of individual articles depending on the search location and computing environment. To maintain scientific integrity and consistency, especially in systematic reviews, action is needed from both the scientific community and scientific search platforms to increase search consistency. Researchers are encouraged to report the search location, and database providers should make search algorithms transparent and revise access rules to titles behind paywalls.

Modern youth and the student community today play a key role in the development of social and social life. Due to the peculiarities of the university space, the student community is in constant interaction and communication, both in the framework of the educational process and events of various formats, and in social and everyday conditions. In the context of interactions, this social group, which is most at risk of spreading negative ideologies that threaten not only the personal security of everyone, but also peaceful coexistence in the conditions of a multinational society in Russia. In the absence of educational measures as a prevention, an unfavorable environment arises in which it is very easy to influence the thinking of young people, their involvement in nationalist movements, extremist activities, etc. Hence the concept of «youth extremism» appears, which is manifested in the views and behavior of young people based on the manifestation of aggression and non-acceptance of dissenters. The search for new technologies of psychological support that allow to form cultural tolerance, value orientations and prevent the spread of extremist ideologies becomes relevant. The authors consider a set of measures that contribute to the generalization, dissemination, as well as the introduction into the student environment of the best practices of spiritual and moral education, the development of interethnic and interreligious dialogue, and the prevention of negative ideologies. To implement these tasks, it is necessary to form a pool of specialists in the prevention of extremism in the student environment, hold seminars and meetings for vice-rectors of universities on security and educational work, as well as educational seminars for managers of student organizations. This will make it possible to form leadership student associations that broadcast the values of cultural tolerance to the youth environment.

Abstract Neighbouring States form regional institutions for purposes that they cannot meet singularly, as in case of exceptional events that overwhelm national capacities. Comparing regional organizations endowed with specific Disaster Management (dm) functions provides a suitable analytical lens of this phenomenon, being a means for exploring how fundamental principles like sovereignty or solidarity are differently combined within their legal frameworks. Building on a comparative analysis of two regional models (eu and asean-aha), the article suggests that the positioning of regional organizations on the sovereignty-solidarity axis is facilitated by an adapted use of the well-known Latin maxim ‘unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno’. This indicates both dynamics in which the organization is endowed with autonomous capacities of acting in support of members stricken by a catastrophic event, and those regional mechanisms whose functioning depends on the case-by-case involvement of their membership. As will be maintained, whereas these interrelated dynamics coexist in the two organizations analysed, they are differently modelled according to the respective regulatory settings. Yet, common trends in the development of respective institutional functioning can be detected.

Abstract Scientific literature has tackled Maltese English (MaltE) mainly in the framework of World Englishes in order to focus on its features compared to other varieties of English around the world. In this paper we shed more light on MaltE by proposing a sociolinguistic perspective, oriented towards its social stratification, and by referring to it through degrees of linguistic competence in English. We therefore propose two continua of variation: MaltE as an L2 continuum and as a situational one. Within this framework, we identify two groups defined as Mainly Maltese Speakers (MMS) and Mainly English Speakers (MES). We suggest that MaltE can be interpreted both as an L2, and as a variety used according to speech events, domain, participants, in-groupness etc. To investigate this we carried out a perceptual experiment involving two groups of university students, specialising in Maltese and English respectively. We discuss the results based on ratings and evaluations of authentic MaltE written and spoken prompts.

To prove the efficiency, the results of a comparative experiment of the use of electronic resources for creating quizzes are given.

Established in 2002, nanoHUB.org continues to attract a large community of users for computational tools and learning materials related to nanotechnology [1, 2]. Over the last 12 months, nanoHUB has engaged over 1.4 million visitors and 13,000 simulation users with over 5,000 items of content, making it a premier example of an established science gateway. The nanoHUB team tracks references to nanoHUB in the scientific literature and have found nearly 1,600 vetted citations to nanoHUB, with over 19,000 secondary citations to the primary papers, supporting the concept that nanoHUB enables quality research. nanoHUB is also used extensively for both informal and formal education [3,4], with automatic algorithms detecting use in 1,501 classrooms reaching nearly 30,000 students. During 14 years of operation, the nanoHUB team has had an opportunity to study the behaviors of its user base, evaluate mechanisms for success, and learn when and how to make adjustments to better serve the community and stakeholders. We have developed a set of success criteria for a science gateway such as nanoHUB, for attracting and growing an active community of users. Outstanding science content is necessary and that content must continue to expand or the gateway and community will grow stagnant. A large challenge is to incentivize a community to not only use the site, but more importantly, to contribute [5,6]. There is often a recruitment and conversion process that involves, first, attracting users, giving them reason to stay, use, and share increasingly complex content, and then go on to become content authors themselves. This process requires a good understanding of the user community and its needs as well as an active outreach program, led by a user-oriented content steward with a technical background sufficient to understand the work and needs of the community. A reliable infrastructure is a critical key to maintaining an active, participatory community. Using underlying HUBzero® technology, nanoHUB is able to leverage infrastructure developments from across a wide variety of hubs, and by utilizing platform support from the HUBzero team, access development and operational expertise from a team of 25 professionals that one scientific project would be hard-pressed to support on its own. nanoHUB has found that open assessment and presentation of stats and impact metrics not only inform development and outreach activities but also incentivize users and provide transparency to the scientific community at large.

The author’s text addresses the issue of the place of moral education in the educational agenda in Poland, including in the scientific literature. He describes the dynamics of the debate around this issue, the meanings given to it, the continuity vs. the discontinuity in how it is approached. The author proposes the hypothesis that the issue of upbringing/moral education has not been a priority in the educational agenda after 1990. This is due to at least two factors: (1) the lack of historical continuity in the presence of this dimension of upbringing/education in the school system as well as in public life, as it has been in Western countries, and (2) the non-standard shaping of moral issues in the school system (strong permeation of religious and national-independence issues).

The article is dedicated to the improving the methodical approach to the assessment of service competitiveness provided by service organizations. The author considers the concept of service competitiveness and quality, analyzes the scientific literature and existing methods for assessing competitiveness grouped into three groups. The article substantiates the use of the scale of pairwise comparisons and rating scales for determining the significance of characteristics, and gives result of their comparative analysis. The formulas for determining the importance of characteristics are given. The author offers to use marketing scales for the assessment of relationships, when surveying respondents. For example, the Likert scale, the semantic differential, the Stepel scale, and the graphic scales should be used for evaluating the qualitative indicators of services. The article gives the sequence of determining the relative level of each characteristic of the service in question in comparison with the selected basic service. A new element is the methodology of scaling norms proposed in the article, which makes it possible to evaluate the parameters of the service more accurately. The author makes the values of the characteristics of service competitiveness comparable in the normalization of scales. The purpose of rating scales is that the ranges of possible variation of each characteristic should be the same, and accordingly the change in each characteristic relative to the base services should be perceived equivalent. The article gives and justifies the computational formulas of the competitiveness coefficient by non-economic indicators or the service rating. The author offers estimation of economic parameters of service provided by company, and calculation of the competitiveness coefficient by economic indicators. The integral coefficient of competitiveness is given.

Статья посвящена сравнительному анализу исследовательской концепции происхождения и сущности божества осетинского пантеона Сафы, принадлежащей одному из ведущих осетиноведов Тамерлану Александровичу Гуриеву. Концепция представлена в статье «Геродотова Гестия/Табити и Сафа в осетинской нартиаде» [1]. Сложность, «многослойность» исследуемого объекта по сей день сохраняет дискуссию в научном сообществе. До сих пор не существует однозначного ответа по поводу истоков появления Сафы, его подлинной сущности, образа и характера, этимологии имени. Мы ставим своей целью рассмотреть еще один вариант объяснения ономастики и сакральных функций Сафы, представленных в концепции авторитетного ученого-лингвиста Тамерлана Александровича Гуриева, подвергнуть ее научному анализу и определить степень ее интегрированности в современное осетиноведение. Новизна исследования заключается в предпринятом перекрестном анализе двух разных концепций Сафы – Т.А. Гуриева и Б.А. Алборова, – что позволило обнаружить ряд сходных выводов, к которым оба ученых в разное время пришли совершенно самостоятельно, чем, в свою очередь, косвенно подтверждается их объективность. Существенная разница точек зрения (Б.А. Алборов считал Сафу производным от протоиудейского бога Саваофа, а Т.А. Гуриев – скифской богини Табити) не помешала ученым прийти к общим выводам. К наиболее существенным сходным чертам обеих концепций можно отнести вывод о солярности Сафы (правда, по-разному трактуемой) и о том, что божество на самом деле является результатом маскулинизации. The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the research concept of the origin and essence of the deity Safa of the Ossetian pantheon, which belongs to one of the leading Ossetian scholars Tamerlan Alexandrovich Guriev. The concept is presented in the article "Herodot’s Hestia / Tabiti and Safa in the Ossetian Nartyada" [1]. The complexity, "multi-layered" nature of the object under study to this day keeps the discussion in the scientific community. Until now, there is no unequivocal answer about the origins of the appearance of Safa, his true essence, image and character, the etymology of the name. We aim to consider another version interpreting Safa's onomastics and his sacred functions, presented in the concept of the reknown linguist Tamerlan Aleksandrovich Guriev, subject it to scientific analysis and determine the degree of its integration into modern Ossetian studies. The novelty of the research lies in the undertaken cross-analysis of two different concepts of Safa advanced by T.A. Guriev and B.A. Alborov with the aim of finding a number of similar conclusions, to which both scientists at different times came completely independently, which, in turn, indirectly confirms their objectivity. A significant and basic difference in points of view (BA Alborov considered Safu to be derived from the proto-Jewish god Sabaoth, and T.A. Guriev ‒ the Scythian goddess Tabiti), did not prevent the scientists from coming to general conclusions. The most significant similarities between both concepts include the conclusion about Safa's solarity (though interpreted in different ways) and that the deity is in fact the result of masculinization.
