Communication Media and Digital Literacy as Intervention Tools in Prisons

In Spain, there are a few projects that link communication with social intervention in prisons. These projects have remained invisible to society, and similar initiatives taking place in other prisons were even unknown amongst themselves. It is not common to find radio, programs of digital literacy, magazines, or even television and cinema in prisons. These are activities that remain within the walls and come about from the restlessness of the educators who voluntarily produce them. The work presented comes about the doctoral research work that for 4 years explored these initiatives. Through qualitative methodology, based on the use of in-depth interviews, the authors give voice to 20 prisoners and educators that participate in these projects in Spanish jails. Without claiming to be representative, the results show that these activities can become a powerful tool for social-educative integration and personal transformation.

An estimated 90 per cent of children with a hearing loss are born to hearing parents. Most parents are unprepared for the diagnosis, leaving them shocked, confused, sad and bewildered. This article reports on a study aimed at exploring and describing the experiences of hearing parents regarding their child’s hearing loss. The study was conducted in Cape Town, South Africa. The study applied a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological design. Purposive sampling was implemented and data were collected by means of unstructured in-depth interviews. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Ethical considerations were adhered to. The main findings of the study indicated that hearing parents experience a myriad of emotions when their child is diagnosed with a hearing loss. This study advocates for various stakeholders in the helping profession to collaborate in the best interest of hearing parents and a child with hearing loss. Furthermore, these findings serve as guidelines for professionals working with these families.

The primary objective of this essay is to assign a gap in Human Recourse Management literature. Many studies and resources are known about hiring and maintaining people and their loyalty to organizations. Work socialization is the first step to keeping people; however, most of the literature on integration at the workplace focuses primarily on organizational commitment and not on the individuals. Various perspectives of work socialization have been discussed including socialization stages, guidance and carrier development. This essay focuses on the approach of Human Resource Management, but the scope is expanded to the individual as well. In this paper, the reasoning, the methods and the questions of my future doctoral research on integration at the workplace are analysed. First, the issue is discussed from the perspective of social changes in Hungary. The next part of this essay illustrates varying definitions from the literature, providing then my own view of how to explain the integration process in the workplace and through which what I would like to focus my research. This article also aims to show possible methods (in-depth interviews with Human Resource Managers and document analysis) for examining the topic at multinational pharmaceutical factories in Hungary, while highlighting the most important questions for which my research aims to find answers.

It is a matter of debate about what a scientific research is. But within this issue we often discuss about the data source. These issues have raised some dilemmas of ethical character on how datas shall be collected, who collects them, and who may use and the way they are used. No doubt those doctorates represent a research but the purpose of this paper is to stimulate debate on some essential criteria which it should have. The first question we put forth is that how much of the data presented by the candidate are of first hand- collected by the candidate himself, his team and how much data are used from other sources or are given from second hand (Mattews, Ross, 2012). From the direct analysis of the doctorate works in SEE University, it turns out that there is a mixed approach of using the data and their presentation. We can freely say that first-hand data are more in number but there is also a great numbers of dissertations without first-hand data, so without source data, collected directly by the author on the determined subject of his paper . So the permanent question that should afflict us is that whether a dissertation should always respect innovation and basic principles of Salzburg Principles? By reviewing of the literature, documents analyzing, statistical analyzing we will be able to give a clear picture of how the of primary and secondary sources in the dissertation work should be used.

This paper deals with the employment insecurity in the context of labor market dysfunction and changing institutional structure of the economy. We consider the actorsʼ behavior in the labor market as affected by the institutional factors. Employment insecurity and associated precarity processes are essenstial for young people entering the labor market. Qualitative methodology allowed us to identify the behavioral preferences of the informants through the in-depth interviews. We have conducted and analyzed 17 in-depth interviews with the university graduates. The research findings showed that the graduates are generally aware of the problems associated with unstable employment in the Russian labor market. They are relatively loyal to informal employment during university studies and for the initial few years after graduation. We focus on the graduates’ perception of the precarization processes in the context of the labor marketʼs structural opportunities. The gap between educational and economic policies and the emergence of institutions that create sustainable rules for the professional and personal development of the employees is an important cause of youth unemployment. The behavioral strategies of university graduates are associated with three main groups of factors: the existing institutional constraints on the labor market, adaptation to the demand structure in the region (city) in its competence area, and the level of competence of the graduate and his/her self-assessment of these competencies and their relevance to employersʼ modern requirements. The challenges of precarious employment are addressed by graduates in the context of competition and the need to improve their skills.

<p><em>Radio is an auditive communication media with several characteristics, among them is a crosshairs and contain interference. Listening to radio programs can only be done once. One of the radio programs is news. Dissemination of information and news via radio can take place quickly and wider. Broadcast news on the radio must be true, once the news is wrong in broadcast it is not possible to repeat again. Because the listener may only hear the error, do not hear what is rectified. It may also be that the listener did not hear the error, so that the wrong message rectified is correct. In the context of Islamic communication spreading good, true, and honest news is a must. Islamic communication is a way of communicating that is Islamic, which is not contrary to the teachings of the Qur'an and Hadith.</em></p><p><em>This study aims to describe the news coverage process "Lintas Pagi" RRI Semarang in the perspective of islamic communication. This research is a descriptive qualitative research by using data analysis technique Miles and Huberman.</em></p><p><em>Based on research conducted on the news coverage of "Lintas Pagi" RRI Semarang, then obtained the result that the news coverage process "Lintas Pagi" RRI Semarang in the perspective of Islamic communication without realizing has applied the principles of Islamic communication. These principles are qawlan sadidan, qawlan baligha, qawlan karima, qawlan ma'rufan, qawlan layyina, and qawlan maisura.</em></p><p><strong><em>Keywords</em></strong><em>: news coverage , morning news, islamic communication perspective</em></p><p><em>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------</em></p><p class="IsiAbstrak">Radio merupakan media komunikasi auditif dengan beberapa karakteristik, di antaranya adalah selintas dan mengandung gangguan. Mendengarkan program radio hanya dapat dilakukan sekali. Salah satu program radio adalah berita. Penyebaran informasi dan berita melalui radio dapat berlangsung cepat dan lebih luas. Menyiarkan berita di radio harus benar, sekali berita tersebut salah dalam menyiarkan tidak mungkin di ulang kembali. Karena pendengar mungkin hanya mendengar ralatnya saja, tidak mendengar apa yang diralat. Mungkin pula pendengar tidak mendengar ralatnya, sehingga berita salah yang diralat dianggapnya benar.  Dalam konteks komunikasi islami menyebarkan berita yang baik, benar, dan jujur adalah sebuah keharusan. Komunikasi islami merupakan cara berkomunikasi yang bersifat islami, yang tidak bertentangan dengan ajaran Al-Qur’an dan Hadits.</p><p class="IsiAbstrak">Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses peliputan berita “Lintas Pagi” RRI Semarang dalam perspektif komunikasi islami.   El objetivo de este artículo es analizar en qué consiste el rol del dirigente de la Corriente Campesina Nacional (COCAN) como mediador de las estructuras de poder del Estado y los criollos del Impenetrable (una región localizada en la provincia del Chaco, noreste de Argentina) durante el periodo 2012-2015. Se aplica una metodología cualitativa, que consistió en observación participante y entrevistas en profundidad. Se concluye que la COCAN lleva a cabo múltiples prácticas organizativas para resolver las problemáticas de las poblaciones rurales: implementación y gestión de proyectos estatales, negociaciones con autoridades políticas y promoción de actividades culturales y productivas.  Abstract The aim of this article is to analyze the role of the leader of the “Corriente Campesina Nacional” (COCAN) as a mediator between state agents and the “criollo” population in the “Impenetrable” (a region located in Chaco, north east of Argentina) during the period 2012-2015. A qualitative methodology is applied, using participant observation and in-depth interviews. The article concludes that the COCAN uses diverse organizational practices to solve rural community problems: implementation and management of state projects, negotiations with political authorities and promotion of cultural and productive activities.

The aim of this study is to explore preschool teachers’ perception of the application of information communication technology in Taiwan using qualitative methodology in the form of interpretive phenomenology. Snowball sampling was used to select fourteen preschool teachers from public preschools. The data was collected from fourteen preschool teachers using one-to-one, semi-structured in-depth interviews, each of which lasted for one to two hours based on the guidelines for semi-structured interviews. The interviews were taped, recorded, and transcribed for the main textual analysis, which was based on a thematic analysis. Five themes were identified: (1) a formative and explorative growth process, (2) information devices: at once plentiful and limited, (3) decisions between control and freedom, (4) parent-teacher communications, and (5) trend-driven resource integration. Suggestions and implications for the utilization of ICT in classroom practice and its implementation in the curriculum are discussed.

Tourism science has been recognized as a scientific discipline in Indonesia since 2008. However, because of this interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary genealogy, it creates many scientific problems. The purpose of this paper is to understanding concept and theory of tourism science that very complex. The research was conducted in Bali, using qualitative methodology with library study methods, observation and in-depth interviews. The technique of determining informants used purposive sampling and qualitative data analysis techniques. The results of the study show that the concepts and theories of tourism are still largely referring to previously established sciences with many borrowing concepts, theories and other scientific methods. This fact make “the big machine of concept and theory” trigger as a blind spot. Very natural for a new science with interest wide ranging subject / object of research. Such an approach, the research findings that blind spot phenomenon in tourism research can be solved. In the industrial revolution 4.0 era, for existence tourism science more research must produce new concepts, theories and innovations. Keywords: Concept, theory, blind spot, science, tourism

Purpose This paper aims to demystify the creative experiences of an extraordinary group of pastry chefs – The Malaysian World Pastry Team, champions of the 2019 World Pastry Cup. The authors adopted an expressionist theoretical lens informed by two aesthetic philosophers – John Dewey and Wassily Kandinsky. Design/methodology/approach A two-year portraiture was conducted – a qualitative methodology that draws features from phenomenology and narrative inquiry, rendering artistically and empirically written “portraits” that reflect themes and patterns of participants’ experiences. In-depth interviews, observations and material artifacts were collected amid a journey alongside nine extraordinary Malaysian pastry chefs. Findings Presented in story structures, the authors offer three “portraits” of culinary creativity, each representing a core essence of the creative phenomenon: creative harmony in the form of sensorial and symbolic poetry; imaginative episodes as a hypnotic state of inspiration and incubation; and the creative duality of scientific rationalism and artistic fashion. The authors delineated the intricacies of each theme by presenting them as individual narratives. Research limitations/implications The portraits indicated that culinary creativity reflects an organic and emancipating aesthetic experience that is unbounded by formative structures or sequential processes. This provides a novel theoretical view that moves beyond conventional studies’ capitalistic frameworks, and toward the intimate viewpoints of the chef-creators. Specific contributions are discussed. Originality/value Through a unique qualitative approach and an aesthetic theoretical framework, this study provided a novel perspective on the culinary creative process. The aesthetic view captures culinary creativity through the eyes of the creator, a viewpoint less considered, yet imperative to the culinary profession.

Purpose Fuelled by the latest scandals at Siemens, VW or Walmart, there is a lively debate on the role of compliance and ethics programmes. Unlike large corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) arguably tend to underestimate their significance and lag behind. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to shed light on the process of introducing compliance codes and its effects on employee acceptance and performance. Design/methodology/approach In line with the qualitative methodology, the authors conducted 12 in-depth interviews with German SME employees which the authors evaluated with the qualitative content analysis. Findings As for the major contribution, results indicate the emergence of a lack of understanding, anger, anxiety and operational performance losses – both at the individual and the corporate level – especially when employees feel uninvolved in the initial introduction stadium. Originality/value Practicing managers may benefit from the recommendation to facilitate staff involvement at earlier stages. As for theory advancement, the authors draw on Kotter’s (2007) long surviving “Eight Steps Change Management Model” and find significant support for shifting the spotlight of attention towards the first four phases. The authors discuss the original value of the research, admit limitations and illuminate some promising future research trajectories.
