Academic Staff Using University Website Profile Page for Academic Digital Branding

The growing interest in the internet and other digital technologies transforming the practice of education has led to the emergence of novel uses of new media for engaging with stakeholders. This study explored the web profile academic staff in Nigerian universities to understand how academic staff are using the platform to position their academic brand in this digital age. The ALARA model of information search was adopted taking on a qualitative approach in understanding how information are presented and accessed on websites. The analysis revealed that academic staff are not taking ownership and responsibility for their pages, and they are making little effort to develop their academic brand in this digital age. This study contributes to knowledge of academic branding with implications for university administrators working on creating a platform for academics branding. This study also contributes to the literature on the general guidelines on usability evaluations of websites to improve staff profile webpages.

The digitalization of youth signifies their complete immersion, active participation and involvement in the production, consumption and sharing of digital content using various interconnected/interfaced digital devices in their social network interactions. A prerequisite to successful commercial communication with young people is having a good understanding of new media, along with their social and psychological framework. The behaviour, motivation and emotions of youth in general and in relation to digital technologies, especially the meaning attached to mobile phones, the Internet (mainly social network sites) and games (computer-based and portable) should also be addressed if advertisers aim to reach this target group.

<p class="Abstract"><span lang="EN-US">Searching for information on the Internet is not only an activity newly rediscovered, but also a strategic tool to achieve a wide variety of information. Indeed, it’s extremely important to know how to find the information quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately, the Web is so huge and so little structured, that gathering precise, fair and useful information becomes an expensive task. In order to define an information retrieval tool (meta search engine) that brings together multiple sources of information search, interest must be credited to the merger phase of search engines results. On the other hand, information search systems tend primarily to model the user with a profile and then to integrate it into the information access chain, to better meet its specific needs. </span></p><p class="Abstract"><span lang="EN-US">This paper presents a custom fusion method based on Borda method and values retrieved from the user profile. We evaluated our approach on multiple domains and we present some experimental results.</span></p>

We introduce both the new inception of Law in Context - A Socio-legal Journal and the continuing issue of LiC 36 (1). The editorial provides a brief historical account of the Journal since its inception in the early 1980s, in the context of the evolution of the Law & Society movement. It also describes the changes produced in the digital age by the emergence of the Web of Data, Big Data, and the Internet of Things. The convergence between Law & Society and Artificial Intelligence & Law is also discussed. Finally, we introduce briefly the articles included in this issue.

The social network as one of the digital technologies has not only creates a platform for communications, especially relevant during a pandemic, but also provokes the emergence of various types of deviant behavior, primarily due to the fact that many communicate on the Internet under fictitious names; it liberates a person, creates a feeling of impunity, control over the situation, etc. Recently, trash streams have become popular on the Web, but not funny and silly, but associated with violence, insult, humiliation of human dignity, causing a feeling of disgust and contrary to public morality. In December 2020, during such a live broadcast, another victim died, which launched a process in society to discuss the need to introduce criminal liability for such acts. The paper assesses the draft criminal law, as well as initiatives to supplement the list of aggravating circumstances and some corpus delicti with an appropriate qualifying feature, and formulates the author’s draft criminal law on responsibility for organizing, conducting, facilitating and participating in direct air in trash streams.

The internet and social media have been credited with the potential to reinvigorate democracy by offering new avenues of political participation and communication between citi-zens and politicians. The results of empirical studies, however, call for caution, as many politi-cians refrain from fully exploring the interactive potential of new media. This case study focus-es on the web presence of Korean parliamentarians, using basic statistical analyses to explore the use of ICT as a means of political communication. It finds that Korean parliamentarians are less active online, treating ICT mainly as another channel for information distribution. It is thus concluded that ICT is not revolutionizing politics but reinforcing existing patterns of communi-cation that leave a gap between citizens and representatives. This paper was previously submit-ted to CeDem Asia 2016. The literature review and the methodology section have been expand-ed, and additional statistical data as well as further findings on Twitter were added.

This chapter describes how relevant the study of new media and telecommunication innovations, such as videotex, has been to research on developments around the Internet and the Web. It elaborates the distinctions between the Internet and the Web. Additionally, some of the more interesting links between research issues from long ago (in Internet time!) and those of significance today are explained. Online databases developed the initial designs for information services that would appear on the Web. CompuServe and The Source are the best-known ASCII videotex services. These videotex services provide links to other organisations with which the companies did business. The Internet was initially an infrastructure that efficiently transmitted data and at very low cost; fairly soon, it also became able to transmit asynchronous and real-time voice and video. The Internet community resolved the problem of interlinking disparate computer systems so as to produce new and synergistic wholes.

Communication is a way of communicate a message or information so it would change or create a new perception. Nowadays the internet has grown so rapidly that Youtube has become one of the new media channels to do to change and create perception. One perception that can be created through Youtube is about healthy lifestyle. The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions that arose after watching Yulia Baltschun's healthy lifestyle content based on theories about the process of perception formation. The author uses a qualitative approach and is  descriptive qualitative. The results of this study are changes in perception of a healthy lifestyle before and after watching content. So that proves that Yulia Baltschun's Youtube content is able to change the perception previously owned by the audience.Komunikasi merupakan cara dalam menyampaikan pesan atau informasi sehingga mampu mengubah atau menciptakan persepsi. Saat ini internet telah berkembang dengan pesat sehingga Youtube menjadi salah satu media baru yang menjadi saluran untuk melakukan untuk mengubah dan menciptakan persepsi. Persepsi yang mampu diciptakan melalui Youtube salah satunya tentang gaya hidup sehat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi yang timbul setelah menonton konten gaya hidup sehat Yulia Baltschun berdasarkan teori tentang proses terbentuknya persepsi. Penulis menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah terjadi perubahan persepsi gaya hidup sehat ketika sebelum dan setelah menonton konten. Sehingga membuktikan bahwa konten Youtube Yulia Baltschun mampu mengubah persepsi yang dimiliki sebelumnya oleh penonton.

The article deals with the problem of interaction between generations in the emerging digital age. With the introduction of digital technologies into everyday life, qualitatively new conditions for the existence of society are formed, what affects the interaction of generations. Based on the following classification of generations – the “book” generation, the “TV” generation, the “Internet” generation – which have different value attitudes, specific ways of organizing work, communication, forming value ideas and priorities, different ways of experiencing life in general, the authors explore the characteristic features of a new generation. These include the problem of freedom and transparency of existence in the world of gadgets. The article also discusses the problem of communication in the presence of an intermediary – a gadget that sets its own rules of social interaction, including short communications aimed at achieving fractional, rapid goals, what leads to the situativeness of human existence in the digital world. The next problem that follows from the previous one is the problem of personality and its self-determination, which is expressed in the presence of polyidentities. The fourth characteristic feature is a specific way of getting information. The turn-of-the-century generation is also characterized by the absence of a “big hero” and the absence of a “big goal” that people of previous generations aspired to. As a way to achieve intergenerational consensus, we propose the formation of a multi-figurative culture in which all the generations which we have identified participate equally.

Online journalism has evolved since nearly the last two decades to produce a variety of journalistic products that combine the culture of print journalism and new media technology. This research investigates the evolutionary trends in searching and presenting online news in Indonesia by considering the dynamics of convergence caused by the presence of the internet. Online journalism in Indonesia presents various models of presenting news by utilizing the web or website or pages and social media. The development of online journalism in Indonesia is not only demonstrated through the presence of news sites, but also the existence of feed reader pages or news aggregators. This change in online journalism practices in Indonesia poses challenges for lecturers who teach journalism specifically and communication science in general. This study aims to explain the concept of online journalism that applies in Indonesia. In this study, researchers will gather previous studies on online journalism in Indonesia to then describe the problems that arise in online journalism in Indonesia, the methods used to examine them, and data collection techniques. Researchers hope this research will be the initial stage of research on online journalism in Indonesia so that later there will be teaching modules for students of communication science in general and journalism in particular.

This chapter establishes the relevance of nationalism in the digital age, and it discusses the importance of contemporary China in this regard, not merely as a simple case, but as a vast laboratory for social, cultural, and political change. The chapter introduces the ambiguities and contradictions that characterize digital politics in China today, and it outlines the themes that shape scholarly debates about digital China. This prominently includes discussions about the potential of digital technologies like the internet to empower Chinese citizens against the state and the ruling Chinese Communist Party. The introduction questions such interpretations of digital technologies as inherently democratizing. Instead, it makes the case that digital politics should not be viewed as simple struggles between state and society, but rather as complex negotiations, collaborations, and persuasions that benefit various stake-holders. Nationalist discourses in digital China, and particularly Chinese online representations of Japan, are a case in point.
