The purpose of this chapter is to report on the findings of a study that was conducted by the author to investigate the impact of job demands variables on emotional exhaustion and emotional ill-health. A sample of 173 drawn from employees who worked for different organizations in the Pacific, mainly Australia, the African region, the Indian subcontinent of India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, and employees who professed Christian and Hindu religions. A broad range of ages, occupations, ethnicities, religions, and cultures was represented in the sample, that is, the targeted population were employees whose different contexts and characteristics (e.g., attitudes, occupations, ages, marital status, religion, opinions, behaviors, and other defined variables) could be measured and allowed to generalize the results. The study used a quantitative research design. A diversity of findings were established with some findings being consistent with the JD-R theory and previous studies across the cultures while other findings were not consistent with previous studies and the JDR theory.

Abstract Purpose The purpose of the present cross-sectional study is to investigate the role of perceived COVID-19-related organizational demands and threats in predicting emotional exhaustion, and the role of organizational support in reducing the negative influence of perceived COVID-19 work-related stressors on burnout. Moreover, the present study aims to add to the understanding of the role of personal resources in the Job Demands-Resources model (JD-R) by examining whether personal resources—such as the professionals’ orientation towards patient engagement—may also strengthen the impact of job resources and mitigate the impact of job demands. Methods This cross-sectional study involved 532 healthcare professionals working during the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy. It adopted the Job-Demands-Resource Model to study the determinants of professional’s burnout. An integrative model describing how increasing job demands experienced by this specific population are related to burnout and in particular to emotional exhaustion symptoms was developed. Results The results of the logistic regression models provided strong support for the proposed model, as both Job Demands and Resources are significant predictors (OR = 2.359 and 0.563 respectively, with p < 0.001). Moreover, healthcare professionals’ orientation towards patient engagement appears as a significant moderator of this relationship, as it reduces Demands’ effect (OR = 1.188) and increases Resources’ effect (OR = 0.501). Conclusions These findings integrate previous findings on the JD-R Model and suggest the relevance of personal resources and of relational factors in affecting professionals’ experience of burnout.

A lot has been written with regards to anxiety in education and how it affects academic performance of students though little is known on the impact of test anxiety or examinations on pre-service language teachers. This study decided to examine the role of examinations in inducing anxiety among EFL learners and the extent to which this affects academic performance of students. In order to achieve this, a quantitative research design was used for this study. A questionnaire was used to elicit information from the participants and the instrument was distributed to 55 EFL learners to elicit information on their opinions regarding the influence of test anxiety on the students. The instruments were face validated as well checked for reliability. After collecting the data and carrying out analysis, findings derived from the study were used to make valid pedagogical conclusions on the impact of test anxiety on EFL learners

This study represents an important step towards understanding why supervisors behave abusively towards their subordinates. Building on the conservation of resources theory, this study investigates the impact of abusive supervision on counterproductive work behaviors (CWBs) from a stress perspective. Furthermore, job demands play a significant moderating effect, and emotional exhaustion has a mediating effect on the relationship between abusive supervision and CWBs. A time-lagged design was utilized to collect the data and a total of 350 supervisors-subordinates’ dyads are collected from Chinese manufacturing firms. The findings indicate that subordinates’ emotional exhaustion mediates the relationship between abusive supervision and CWBs only when subordinates are involved in a high frequency of job demands. Additionally, emotional exhaustion and abusive supervision were significantly moderated by job demands. However, the extant literature has provided that abusive supervision has detrimental effects on employees work behavior. The findings of this study provide new empirical and theoretical insights into the stress perspectives. Finally, implications for managers and related theories are discussed, along with the boundaries and future opportunities of this study.

The study investigates the effects of the pandemic brought about by Covid-19 on Ilocos businesses and establishments. The study participants were the owners of micro, small and medium businesses in Ilocos Norte, and they were selected using a convenience sampling technique. The study employed a quantitative research design, and the entrepreneurs were asked about the perceived impact of Covid-19. Using descriptive statistics, the findings divulged that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the businesses ranged from retrenchment of employees, disruption in the supply chain, and temporary to permanent shutdown. The impact of the pandemic includes uncertainties, the decline in productivity, demand, and sales. Implications, conclusions, and recommendations were also provided in the study.

Emotional exhaustion and other symptoms of burnout are often found among emergency services professions, such as firefighting. Given the social importance of this activity and the high responsibility it requires, prevention and alleviation of burnout symptoms become primary concerns in ensuring the well-being of firefighters. Although work meaning is one of the factors associated with a lower risk of developing burnout, its protective role has not been studied in firefighters. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the buffering role of work meaning in the health-impairment process of the Job Demands-Resources model, targeting the relationship between job demands and related emotional exhaustion. A cross-sectional survey design was used to collect data from a sample consisting of Romanian firefighters (n = 1096). Structural equation modeling indicated a positive link between job demands and exhaustion. In addition, deriving personal meaning from work was associated with lower levels of exhaustion in firefighters. A small but significant interaction effect between work meaning and job demands showed that higher levels of work meaning attenuated the positive relationship between job demands and exhaustion. In conclusion, our findings suggest that work meaning has a buffering effect on the impact of various job demands on job-related exhaustion. Nevertheless, the small effect sizes warrant further research on this topic.

Micro Business Enterprises (MBEs) is the lifeblood for economic development. Using a descriptive quantitative research design, the study aimed to investigate the impact of MBEs to economic development.  As to impact, in general, it was of a moderate extent. Among the indicators, technology has the highest mean interpreted to a high extent, while infrastructure development scored the lowest mean score, which reflected a moderate degree. The study further delved into the economic contribution and challenges encountered by MBEs. The findings basically implied that MBEs were rooted in the entrepreneur's commitment to do business that promotes progress and development to the local economy.

Aromatherapy inhalation was complemantary therapy that most effective and safe to used, the physicology problem was anxiety as the impact of chronic kidney deasese who underwent hemodialysis. The purpose of this research was to know the influence of aromatherapy inhalation on the decreased anxiety value of chronic kidney deasese who underwent hemodialysis at Grendmed Hospital Lubuk Pakam 2018. This research was quantitative research, with research design pra-experiment and used approach one group pretest–posttest. This research population of all the patient chronic kidney deasese who underwent hemodialysis at Grandmed Hospital Lubuk Pakam 2018. Sample as many 13 respodences with tecnique used purposive sampling. Statistic test used paired simple t-test with confidence level 95% (α = 0,05). The result of the research that there was influence of aromatherapy inhalation on the decreased anxiety value of chronic kidney deasese who underwent hemodialysis at Grandmed Hospital Lubuk Pakam 2018 with p value = 0,001. It is expected to the nurse to be able to apply the implamention the influence of aromatherapy inhalation on the decreased anxiety value of chronic kidney deasese who underwent hemodialysis to decrease dependency in farmacology therapy in decreasing anxiety.

Purpose This study aims to explain the effects of affective commitment as a mediator between task-level job demands (quantitative workload, qualitative workload, feedback and role conflict) and emotional exhaustion among service mangers. Design/methodology/approach Sub-scales of task-level demand and work group-level resources have been selected from job demands and resources indigenous scale. While emotional exhaustion was measured with the subscale of Maslach burnout inventory. For this purpose, data were obtained from 239 respondents to check the relationship between variables. Amos 21 was used to analyze the model fit among variables. Findings The results of the study show that there is a significant positive relationship between high task-level demands and emotional exhaustion. The results also signify that affective commitment partially mediates the relationship. Research limitations/implications The present study is cross-sectional in design, whereas longitudinal studies would be effective to explain causality relationship. Term of service managers is also not well defined. Data were collected as per the convenient sampling technique. Originality/value The research is based on PhD thesis by the author.

The main objective of the study was to determine the impact of e-logistics on warehousing management performance at English biscuit manufacturing. The study utilized quantitative research design for investigating the effects of information visibility and sharing in e-logistics, real time communication, real time forecasting decision and cost saving in E-Logistics on warehouse management performance. Quality, response, cost and productivity levels were taken as indicators of warehouse performance. Data was collected individuals currently serving English Biscuit Manufacturing to explore their perception regarding the impact of e-logistics processes on the warehousing management performance. The total number of respondents were 233 among them 85 were female and 148 were male. The results suggested that information visibility and sharing in e-logistics, real time communication, real time forecasting decision and cost saving significantly affects warehousing management performance. The need to introduce e-logistics in Pakistani manufacturing companies and training staff regarding the use of e-logistics to improve productivity was suggested in the recommendations of the study.
