Brunei Darussalam has been facing unemployment issue in the past few years. With the upcoming fourth industrial revolution (IR4.0) where there will be extensive use of machineries, robotics, and sensors, a shift in the job market is anticipated. This study aims to investigate the potential challenges on unemployment that Brunei Darussalam will face if it does not move in the necessary direction to embrace IR4.0. In addition to that, this study will analyze the current education system that Brunei implements and the e-readiness of its society to further make conclusion and recommendation on improvements Brunei should focus into as a preparation towards the digitalization era. Literature review is chosen as the most appropriate methodological approach to identify and evaluate the key points of this chosen topic. Multiple systematic literature reviews and research papers revolving around the relevant keywords were used extensively to construct the basic understanding of this paper's topic. Secondary data from previous research papers and national reports from 2014 to 2019 were used for to gain insights of Brunei Darussalam's education system, digital literacy, and e-readiness among the society. In conclusion, this study has shown that unemployment rate in Brunei Darussalam is believed to have not been amplified by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0), given that the current employees are retrained and younger generations are equipped with digital literacy-based knowledge and soft skills.

A study of every industrial revolution would be incomplete without any reference to the scant inclusion of women in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. It remains true that a plethora of women are still not extricated from the obfuscation of social inclusion in the technological space. The gender inequalities in ICT remains a perennial problem, consequently prompting a new debate. Closely related to this debate is the scant rate of the inclusion of women in the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). This article opines that men have more freedom to utilise technological devices than women due to, inter alia, limited knowledge regarding technological infrastructure. The article is conceptual in nature and relied on critical scholarship review as a methodological approach to obtain insights. The objective is to argue that gender inequality in ICT is most likely to persist in the 4IR. Furthermore, it provides a summation and conclusion on the 4IR.

Computer systems and technologies are changing our society significantly. These changes are interconnected with both social and production spheres. Innovative digital technologies have a huge impact on the labor market and professional activity, contributing to their transfer to the electronic environment. Using digital technologies, modern people set new goals and solve problems with an increasing speed of problem solving, capitalizing on the possibilities of collaborative distributed actions within networks. In this regard, new competencies of specialists are in demand. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the impact of the fourth industrial revolution on the education system and the development of skills and thinking for learning. Methods: When conducting scientific research, economic and statistical methods were used. These methods were also used in comparative analysis, as well as in assessing data and indicators of the higher education system, taking into account the impact of the fourth industrial revolution. The analytical method was used to consider the characteristics and factors influencing the development of skills and thinking for learning in modern conditions. The abstract-logical method is used to identify problems affecting the development of the labor market under the influence of digital technologies. Results and their value: The result of the study is that conclusions are drawn about the upcoming changes. Automation and digitalization are likely to lead to significant unemployment in most countries, so adaptation innovation policies are needed to help offset unemployment due to digitalization. Governments need to invest heavily in higher education as an economic development tool for their citizens. Lifelong learning should be identified as a critical element of success in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. Curricula should develop digital skills and address workforce disruptions due to automation.

AbstrakTren penggunaan sistem digital berbasis internet merupakan salah satu karakteristik kehadiran era revolusi industri ke empat. Adanya kesenjangan digital khususnya di Indonesia menjadi permasalahan tersendiri. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk menggali sejauhmana pengalaman partisipan terhadap penggunaan sistem digital berbasis internet di lingkungan kerja dan pendidikan; dan mengetahui harapan individu bagi pengembangan penggunaan sistem digital berbasis internet di masa yang akan datang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi  yang fokus pada esensi pemahaman tentang pengalaman individu. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan wawancara mendalam kepada 2 orang partisipan dan jajak pendapat pertanyaan setengah terbuka (open-ended quesionnaire) kepada 41 orang partisipan baik di lingkungan kerja maupun instansi pendidikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengalaman positif dan negatif dalam menggunakan sistem digital berbasis internet. Kondisi ini dipengaruhi oleh besarnya keinginan menggunakan sistem digital berbasis internet yang tidak diingiri dengan optimalisasi penerapan sistem teknikal dan kemampuan dalam literasi digital.  AbstractThe trend of the application of internet-based digital system is one of the characteristics of the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution era. The presence of digital gap especially in Indonesia has become a particular issue. This research is aimed to discover how far the experiences of participants regarding the utilization of internet-based digital system for in work and education environments; and to discover the hopes of individuals for future development of internet-based digital system. This research was using qualitative approach through phenomenological method which focused on the essence of understanding regarding individual experiences. Data were collected through depth interview towards 2 participants and open-ended questionnaire towards 41 participants either in work environment or educational institution. The research results have indicated that there are positive and negative experiences in the application of internet-based digital system. Positive experiences occur from high benefits which acquired from the application of internet-based digital system. While negative experiences occur from the high desire to use internet-based digital system which not adjusted to the optimization of technical system implementation, the policy digital system application and the capability in digital literacy. These condition become the hope of individuals for internet-based digital system in the future.

Teacher is always a key factor which determines training quality in general and vocational training quality of the Vocational Education System (VES) in particular. In face of strong influences from the fourth industrial revolution (IR 4.0), teacher is getting more important in training of human resources, especially qualification level and capacity to apply technology and innovate teaching methods. Based on the analysis for impacts of the IR 4.0 on VES, requirements for capacity of teachers and the reality on vocational education teachers (VETs) today, this article suggests some solutions to develop VETs to adapt to the IR 4.0 as a basis for development of teachers at vocational education institutions in Vietnam.

The very claim of the historical instance of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is increasingly being subjected to critical interrogation from a variety of cultural and ideological perspectives. From an Afrocentric theory of history, this questioning of the ontology of the 4IR is sharpened by Africa’s experience of the claimed progressive mutation of global industrial progress from the “first” to this “fourth” revolution. Africa experienced the first industrial revolution as a European revolution in the exploitation of her natural and human resources, as well as the despoliation of her cultural-epistemic sovereignty. The challenge to fully engage in the theorisation of this 4IR, given the overwhelming and inexorable effects of its digital technologies on the personhood, sociality and geopolitical state of Africa has exposed the critical need for a set of rigorous Africanist analytical tools and epistemological approaches capable of guiding Africa’s appropriation of this techno-social revolution. This essay introduces the collection of research papers that have been selected for their endeavour to meet this challenge. It is highlighted that all of them move from a unique approach that asserts that technological progress is historical-cultural and socially embedded. Some of them address the question of the historico-ontological status of the 4IR innovatively with original African methodological tools, while others demonstrate how an African epistemology can be applied to issues such a digital virtual communities and robotics. This contribution to the bourgeoning field of African Philosophy of Technology is admired as work in progress.

Fintech solutions can revolutionize Islamic financial services and leverage on the so-called ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution' which is the movement towards combining everyday aspects of our lives, such as finance, into the digital realm that will help increase speed, efficiency, and convenience. The most significant challenge for all countries pursuing Fintech is regulating the industry. Following the issuance of the Financial Sector Blueprint, the Fintech Unit was established under Autoriti Monitori Brunei Darussalam (AMBD). AMBD envisions a vibrant economy powered by ICT through ICT-Smart Citizens as well as being a connected and efficient nation. This chapter discusses the application of Fintech specifically in Islamic finance sector based on the descriptive method of research by concentrating on its regulations. At the end, the research found that though Fintech in Islamic finance sector has been done since it's emerging through Guidelines Fintech Regulatory Sandbox Guidelines Islamic financial Fintech will be strengthened and developed and more diversified.

Industrial revolution refers to a period in human history in which revolutionary scientific discoveries and inventions that affect the functioning of society as a whole take place. Changes resulting from industrial revolutions sooner or later affect all sectors of the economy. The Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, has brought with it many changes. Industry 4.0 has spread rapidly and has become a current phenomenon. Within the theoretical part of the contribution, the authors deal with development, definition, and comparison of industrial revolutions. The aim of the contribution is to examine the readiness of the Visegrad Four countries for changes connected with Industry 4.0. Several national initiatives responding to Industry 4.0 have been launched across Europe in recent years. Their purpose is to regulate the realization of Industry 4.0 and its consequences. Almost every member state of the European Union has its own national initiative, responding to Industry 4.0. Within the practical part of the contribution, authors focused on initiatives responding to Industry 4.0 in the V4 countries. To examine the readiness of the V4 countries for the challenges related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution - Industry 4.0, secondary data - The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) - was used, as well as a z-score calculation. The resulting z-scores show which countries currently achieve the best results in terms of the Drivers of Production values when compared to the GDP per capita. To see how each country is doing compared to the mean value of the respective indicators, z-scores were calculated for each of them.

The use of automation and artificial intelligence in recent times has created two options for stakeholders in the global business environment. The stakeholders are capable of becoming the agents or victims of inevitable transformation. This chapter explores a review of education system across the globe in building human capital to address the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities in the fourth industrial revolution. This chapter combines a literature review approach and personal observation in higher education institutions in advancing education system for the fourth industrial revolution. The use of chatbot as a training needs assessment technique is effective in collecting variety of information about needs, problems, potential problems, perceptions, attitudes, and opinions in the digital age. This chapter holds that teaching contents and techniques should be structured in line with the learners' objectives, students' needs, and skills in high demand by employers in the fourth industrial revolution.

AbstractBuilding a strong economy depends on numerous factors: technological, political, geographical but also and above all social ones. Currently, the ongoing fourth industrial revolution is primarily based on digitization of all processes in the conducted activities. The acquisition and processing of vast amount of data generates information which is very complex and not always unambiguous. Industry 4.0 also assumes that employees will understand both technical needs and those not related to the production process. This means that the present education system (definitely the one related to technical science) should also be changed so that engineers acquire more managerial skills. The article presents the educational assumptions in the face of challenges posed by Industry 4.0 in the context of the current opportunities of the labor market and education in Poland and in Europe.
