Determinants of Cloud Business Intelligence Adoption Among Ghanaian SMEs

This study explores the determinants of Cloud BI adoption among Ghanaian small-medium enterprises (SMEs). The study was guided by the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework and information systems adoption model and employed the qualitative method through an in-depth interview with data collected from CEOs/key managers from 17 SMEs in Ghana. The results showed that technological characteristics (relative advantage, complexity, and compatibility), organizational characteristics (organization size and organizational readiness), environmental characteristics (competitive pressure and regulatory framework), and owner-manager characteristics (innovativeness and knowledge) influence the adoption of Cloud BI tools and services in Ghanaian SMEs. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by providing a Cloud BI adoption model from a developing country context. Practically, the study provides insights to vendors about the kind of Cloud BI Ghanaian SMEs require. Vendors can also use the findings to create awareness about the services they offer in terms of Cloud BI.

Studies on BI application in improving decision support are not new. However, research on BI institutionalization seems sparse. BI institutionalization may positively contribute to a managerial role in using BI application repetitively for the decision-making iteration in businesses. This article aims to carry out an integrative literature review and report consolidated views of the body of knowledge. The study adopted a qualitative content analysis to generate themes about BI routinization in the decision-making iteration. Eighty-eight research articles were selected for the study. However, 57 articles were finally included for review. The findings suggest information management capability as the key necessity for BI application and its alignment with the organizational standard for BI institutionalization.

Starting from business intelligence (BI) reference models, this work proposes to extend the multi-dimensional data modelling approach to integrate human factors (HF)-related dimensions. The overall goal is to promote a fine grain understanding of the derived key performance indicators (KPIs) through an enhanced characterization of the operational level of work context. HF research has traditionally approached critical domains and complex socio-technical systems with a chief consideration of human situated action. Grounded on a review of the body of knowledge of the HF field, this work proposes the business intelligence for human factors (BI4HF) framework. It intends to provide guidance on pertinent data identification, collection methods, modelling, and integration within a BI project endeavour. BI4HF foundations are introduced, and a use case on a manufacturing industry organization is presented. The outcome of the enacted BI project referred in the use case allowed new analytical capabilities regarding newly derived and existing KPIs related to operational performance, providing insight into the value of the BI4HF framework.

<p class="Default">This research examines the mobile-government services adoption, by combining both UTAUT and GAM models with adding new constructs for explaining the key factors that affect on adoption of mobile-government services. As a result, the study identified the critical factors that influence users’ to adopt the system, and developed an integrated model as a powerful tool that assists in the adoption process of mobile-government applications. The novelty of this research will be an added value to the body of knowledge and its implications will be vital for researchers and decision/policy makers who are willing to make a change.</p>

This qualitative study aimed to identify the motivating factors and the challenges related to the adoption of mobile payment (mPayment) by small business retailers. Data collected from semi-structured personal interviews with a small group of participants were analyzed applying a content analysis approach. The findings indicate that retailer demand for mPayment was motivated mainly by perceived customer expectations for a convenient (faster) way to pay using the ubiquitous mobile technology, as well as by the perceived efficiency of mPayment leading to revenue increase. Challenges to mPayment adoption included, among others, the need to compete with already established point-of-sale payment technologies and the lack of information about mPayment leading to uncertainty about its comparative advantages. The study contributes to the body of knowledge by developing and exploring a merchant oriented mPayment adoption model. The factors identified as adoption drivers and challenges provide an insight into New Zealand retailer perspectives on mPayment, and the grounds for recommendations to mPayment service providers.

Many small-medium enterprises are to be close in the pandemic period. On the other hand, some SMEs still survive by making innovations in their business. Organizational culture is an essential thing in managing SMEs in Semarang City. Organizational culture in SMEs composes ethic organization and does with an example; makes code ethics and policy about ethics; has positive work environment; response fraud report constantly; does training about fraud care, and checks employee background. This study aims to answer the question of the role of organizational culture in management SMEs in Semarang City during the pandemic period. This study applies qualitative research with an in-depth interview with the owner of SMEs in Semarang City. SMEs do new culture organizational in their business management by switching from offline sales to the online sale, applying healthy protocol on offline sales, and using delivery services for goods or transfer money to avoid meeting directly with customers in the pandemic period.

The study aims to examine the current implementation of entrepreneurship learning including business incubator and to identify factors influencing the effectiveness of entrepreneurship and incubator output including developing collaborative learning model in each particular faculties/university in Jakarta and Tangerang. Method of the study uses qualitative analysis which is focusing on Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and in -depth interview approaches to eight universities and fifteen academicians with strong background in managing as well as entrepreneurship teaching experiences. The result shows that strong collaboration between the study programs and business incubator must be strongly established to provide entrepreneurship learning experiences in higher education. There are significant aspects as influencing factors to create collaborative model between entrepreneurship program and business incubator; university’s vision and mission, entrepreneurial background lecturer, strong culture and reward system. This study is claimed as few studies focusing on developing a collaborative model specifically to the universities which have business incubator in Indonesia. Studies on the effect on collaborative learning model on entrepreneurship toward succesful entrepreneurship education would be considerably fill in the gaps in the body of knowledge on the subject.

The aim of this research is to analyze the key success factors in promoting the internationalization preparation of Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the restraining factors for SME in internationalization preparation of SMEs. This study uses qualitative research method. Primary Data for qualitative is collected through depth interview on important actors as informants, consist of the five representatives as the adaption of Penta-Helix Model. Supporting factors for internationalization preparation are product uniqueness and high international demand of product. While, the barrier factors are insufficient business network and high competition from other countries. The most suitable recommendation for business owner of SMEs is by optimizing the innovation through local values to produce unique product which can compete with other countries. Moreover, the other recommendation is by establishing a wider and stronger business network in order to address the international demand.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to look at Zakat management and the crisis of confidence in the ability of the state and zakat agencies to dispense zakat to the rightful beneficiaries as mentioned in the Quran. Confidence is a very important element between the payers and collectors of zakat and when this is lost, it affects the willingness of the payers to give zakat to the zakat collectors (state or zakat agency). This crisis of confidence led to the need to look at the legality of the payer giving zakat directly to the beneficiaries and whether this is a sin as argued in certain quarters. Design/methodology/approach Using the qualitative method by using historical, analytical and critical tools, the research examines the concept of proximity in the distribution of zakat and based on this argues that giving zakat directly to the beneficiaries is a viable option when there is a crisis of confidence between the payer and the state or zakat agency. Findings Through the analysis of the opinions of scholars, the research affirms that scholars are divided on whether to pay zakat to the state or give it directly to the beneficiaries. Based on this, the research concludes that although the ideal is to give zakat to the state or zakat agency, but there is no sin in giving zakat directly to the beneficiaries especially where there is a problem of confidence in the state and/or zakat agency. Research limitations/implications The research discussed the legality of giving zakat to the recipients of zakat directly using the historical, analytical and critical tools. This shows that the research is qualitative in nature and is library based therefore limited in scope. Basically, this research is concerned with refuting the claim that it is a sin for zakat payers to give zakat directly to the recipients especially when there is a problem of trust in zakat agencies and a crisis of confidence in the ability of these agencies to do what is right with the zakat funds. This leaves room for further research on the issue. Practical implications It is important to create confidence in zakat agencies' collection and distribution of zakat so that it will encourage more Muslims to pay their zakat and allow it to reach as many people as possible. Encouraging the creation of a vetting organization by Muslim professional accountants and others that can help in making zakat agencies transparent and trustworthy. Social implications It emphasizes the importance of trust and confidence that institutions must project for the people to do business with them. Originality/value The research contributes to the body of knowledge on zakat collection and distribution. It shows the importance of trust and confidence in zakat management and recommended ways in which trust and confidence could be built in the effective collection and distribution of zakat.

This research intends to provide the theoretical evidence on the relationship between&nbsp;leadership&nbsp;style and organizational performance of small medium enterprises (SMEs) in East Malaysia.&nbsp; The growth organizational performances among SMEs in East Malaysia have been at stagnant stage, as they are not able to respond to unforeseen issues due to weak leadership. The SMEs in East Malaysia are losing their competitive advantages as compared to West Malaysia. There is lack of motivation among the followers working in SMEs in East Malaysia as employees do not put extra effort in their tasks. There is absence of creativity in workplace as employees have not been giving any productive output from a long time. Previous research have documented that there are relationships between leadership style and organizational performance in SMEs in East Malaysia. The current study steps forward to contribute to gaps in body of knowledge by looking at the effects that occur due to different leadership style and its influence on the organizational performance in SMEs in East Malaysia. The nature of this study add to the existing literature by integrating the theory and evidence that could enhance organizational performance.
