Recently, the integration of geographical coordinates into a picture has become more and more popular. Indeed almost all smartphones and many cameras today have a built-in GPS receiver that stores the location information in the Exif header when a picture is taken. Although the automatic embedding of geotags in pictures is often ignored by smart phone users as it can lead to endless discussions about privacy implications, these geotags could be really useful for investigators in analysing criminal activity. Currently, there are many free tools as well as commercial tools available in the market that can help computer forensics investigators to cover a wide range of geographic information related to criminal scenes or activities. However, there are not specific forensic tools available to deal with the geolocation of pictures taken by smart phones or cameras. In this paper, an image scanning and mapping tool for investigators is proposed and developed. This tool scans all the files in a given directory and then displays particular photos based on optional filters (date/time/device/localisation…) on Google Map. The file scanning process is not based on the file extension but its header. This tool can also show efficiently to users if there is more than one image on the map with the same GPS coordinates, or even if there are images with no GPS coordinates taken by the same device in the same timeline. Moreover, this new tool is portable; investigators can run it on any operating system without any installation. Another useful feature is to be able to work in a read-only environment, so that forensic results will not be modified. This tool's real-world application is also presented and evaluated in this paper.

Smart phones are equipped with a wide range of sensors (such as GPS, light, accelerometer, gyroscope, etc.) and allow users to be connected everywhere. These characteristics offer a rich information source for creating context-aware applications. However, testing these applications in the lab, before their deployment, could become a hard task or impossible because of sensors correlation, too wide testing area or an excessive number of people involved. This work aims to solve these problems carrying out the testing in a simulator, simulating the world in which the application user is immersed into. Tester controls her avatar and the avatar has a simulated smart phone that is connected with the user’s smart phone. Applications under test are installed on the real smart phone and are compiled with a library that replaces standard services of the sensors by others that offer data sensor from the simulator (depending on the simulated smart phone context) instead of real world.

We aim to demystify the development of neuro-biomechanical modeling in OpenSim with zero configuration, easy to share models while accessing to free GPUs on a web-based platform of Google Colaboratory. OpenSim is an open-source biomechanical package. OpenSim is used in a variety of applications and developed in C++; however, it is available for a wide range of users with bindings in MATLAB, Python, Jython and Java via OpenSim Application Programing Interface (API). OpenSim installation on a personal computer is well described by the developers but its implementation may still be time-consuming and challenging for the new users. Cloud-based computing is expanding in almost all engineering domains with zero configuration, though it is in its early stages within biomechanics community. In this study, we aim to access OpenSim functionality on the Google cloud platform. The methods can also be used in other cloud-based platforms. We installed OpenSim on the Google Colab via Anaconda cloud and named it OpenColab. To use OpenColab, one requires only a connection to the internet and a Gmail account. Moreover, such a platform enables the users to access vast libraries of machine learning available within free Google products e.g., TensorFlow. OpenColab takes advantage of zero configuration of cloud-based platforms even on a smart phone, provides access to free GPUs and enables users to share and reproduce modeling approaches for further validation. Finally, we performed inverse problem in biomechanics and compared OpenColab results with OpenSim GUI’s for validation. Step-by-step installation processes and examples can be found freely at: https://simtk.org/projects/opencolab.

Background: Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) is the most known virus in the plant mosaic virus family and is able to infect a wide range of crops, in particularly tobacco, causing a production loss. Objectives: Herein, and for the first time in Lebanon, we investigated the presence of TMV infection in crops by analyzing 88 samples of tobacco, tomato, cucumber and pepper collected from different regions in North Lebanon. Methods: Double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (DAS-ELISA), revealed a potential TMV infection of four tobacco samples out of 88 crops samples collected. However, no tomato, cucumber and pepper samples were infected. The TMV+ tobacco samples were then extensively analyzed by RT-PCR to detect viral RNA using different primers covering all the viral genome. Results and Discussion: PCR results confirmed those of DAS-ELISA showing TMV infection of four tobacco samples collected from three crop fields of North Lebanon. In only one of four TMV+ samples, we were able to amplify almost all the regions of viral genome, suggesting possible mutations in the virus genome or an infection with a new, not yet identified, TMV strain. Conclusion: Our study is the first in Lebanon revealing TMV infection in crop fields, and highlighting the danger that may affect the future of agriculture.

While a wide range of factors influence rural–rural and rural–urban migration in developing countries, there is significant interest in analyzing the role of agricultural distress and growing inter-regional differences in fueling such movement. This strand of research acquires importance in the context of climate change adaptation. In the Indian context, this analysis gets further complicated due to the significant presence of temporary migration. This paper analyzes how weather and its variability affects both temporary and permanent migration in India using National Sample Survey data for the year 2007–2008. The paper finds that almost all of the rural–urban migrants are permanent. Only temperature plays a role in permanent migration. In contrast, many temporary migrants are rural–rural and both temperature and rainfall explain temporary migration.
