In recent years, companies in almost all the industries have been exploring new ways to use digital technologies to generate value from digital investments. However, many companies are struggling to realize the digital transformation due to various existing barriers. They face many obstacles in the development and implementation of new digital processes. In cases where the companies fail to reflect upon these barriers, digital transformation processes carry the risk of not being realized successfully. Therefore, this study has looked to identify the barriers in digital transformation, in a company in the IT sector in Sweden. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews with the team members involved in digital transformation and from the company's documents, and then thematically analyzed. The findings of this research study are that there are 28 barriers in digital transformation from which 15 are new barriers that could support executives and managers who are planning a digital transformation in their organizations.

The spread of digital technology around the world is accompanied by the uneven development of digitalization processes on the territory of different countries. Russia is no exception. The problem of digitalization management in the Russian Federation must be solved by building an effective system of its management. In order to implement digitalization management throughout the country, it is necessary, first of all, to establish this process on the territory of federal cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sevastopol. Federal cities have all opportunities for building an effective system of digitalization management which in the future could be applied in other Russia’s regions without any serious failures and significant losses. The review and assessment of trends in the current development of digitalization in Russia’s cities of federal importance, the identification of priority digital technologies and priority areas of digitalization in them, the evaluation of their digital life level indicates the unresolved issues of digitalization management in the cities under consideration. A competent organization of digitalization management in federal cities based on the proposed directions will ensure the successful development of digital transformation processes within their territories, and other Russia’s regions will be able to adopt their experience in the future.

The implementation of the national project «Digital Economy» requires the focused efforts of all interested parties and makes special demands on regional management systems. This requires improving the practice of managing digital transformation processes in the regions in order to improve the quality of life of people and dynamic development. The article discusses the conditions for the formation and development of the digital economy in the Southern Federal District (SFD). It is noted that the digital economy provides great opportunities for development, increases the level of information openness and accessibility, reduces bureaucratic barriers, but on the other hand, digitalization processes are associated with inevitable difficulties, uncertainty and risks. It is established that in all subjects there are necessary program documents for digital transformation. The strategic documents adopted in the Southern Federal District are aimed at stimulating and developing digital technologies. The digital economy needs competent specialists, for this it is necessary to create conditions for training personnel, improve the education system, the labor market, create motivation systems for the development of the necessary competencies. In scientific studies, insufficient attention has been paid to the processes of the influence of digital changes on the innovative activity of regional actors. The article presents an analysis of various criteria that affect the possible development of the digital economy and the socio-economic development of the Southern Federal District. The analysis made it possible to identify prospects for the further development of the macroregion. The results of the study can be used in the development and adjustment of regional strategic programs for the development of digital society, as well as material for further theoretical and applied research in the development of digital processes in regional systems.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To present the planning for the digital transformation of Brazilian higher education institutions (HEI) and to measure their degree of digital mastery, according to Westerman, Calméjane, Bonnet, Ferraris, and McAfee (2011). Originality/value: Some studies evaluate digital transformation and/or the degree of digital mastery carried out in HEI individually. However, those that assess them comparatively have not been identified, allowing to draw a baseline to assist managers in benchmarking processes. Design/methodology/approach: It is an exploratory, qualitative research, with field study, in which the secondary data were obtained through bibliographic and documentary sources and the primary data through semi-structured interviews. For this purpose, representatives of ten private HEI were interviewed using an instrument consisting of a script of questions. The content was analyzed according to the model of Bardin (2011) and supported by the tool Iramuteq. The findings served as an input for completing the digital mastery questionnaires. Findings: Elements identified in the research refer to the fact that the evaluated HEI have good maturity in their digital transformation processes. Such allegations could be verified from the evaluation of digital mastery, which found that most institutions have a good level of digitalization and that, despite having some limitations related to the development of digital and leadership skills, can be considered digital masters.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand how digital technologies can help healthcare organisations and improve the exploration-exploitation paradox over time. The authors explore inputs, processes and outcomes of implementing digital transformation programs and advance four testable propositions. Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted multiple case studies with embedded units of analysis: digital transformation processes; hospitals; and regional healthcare systems. Primary sources come from 107 semi-structured interviews with key informants within 14 Italian hospitals between 2009 through 2011. Findings Three complementary paths emerge as fundamental to balance exploratory and exploitatory efforts in healthcare: assets digitalisation within hospitals; digitally based process integration; and disruptive decision-making through analytics. Intra- and inter-path characteristics are discussed to show how digital transformation can both move hospital within the exploration-exploitation space. Research limitations/implications By its very nature, this study is exploratory. Notwithstanding the number of cases and interviews, its generalisability is limited. Practical implications Digital transformation programs are fundamental to resolve the tensions raised by the exploration-exploitation paradox. Their implementation leads to better performance (cost reductions, quality improvements). A framework is provided for practitioners to make better decisions. Originality/value This study sheds new light on how digital technologies are actually adopted and adapted in healthcare contexts. It does it by entailing a longitudinal perspective.

The pandemic has forced retailers to rethink their models digitally. The purpose of the research is to study the features of digital transformation of retail trade, to analyze its main trends. The article discusses current trends in retail digitalization, its key drivers and main problems. The technologies used have been analyzed: data analytics, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things; examples of their application have been given.
