Innovation Policies in Managing Growth for High-Tech Companies

Given the high percentage of turnover invested in R&D, the cost structure and segmentation of investment in high-tech firms necessitate regular review of resource allocation. For high-tech firms, the vital importance of innovation management is one of the building stones of a successful business. The key question remains how innovations can be managed throughout the S-curve of technological performance from the strategic point of view? The aim of this study is to capture an innovation framework for high-tech firms enabling them to actualize the value of technological breakthroughs based on a case study. The author's results are performance-driven. She will address some of the causes behind a technological failure along with its impact on the firm's profit margins. Based on the management insights of her case company, the author sees that innovation policies in high-tech companies can be dissected into four main management phases: sources, formulation, execution and maintenance. New research opportunities are opened in the performance review of technological innovations for listed companies.

Sustainable innovations try to resolve complex challenges related to climate change. Co-creation with diverse stakeholders in innovation networks opens opportunities to successfully develop and implement sustainable innovations. However, collaboration between heterogeneous partners poses challenges at the level of stakeholder relationship management that affect the progress of innovation development. This study’s purpose is to investigate how co-creation processes that develop sustainable and climate-neutral high-tech innovations in the greenhouse horticultural industry should be structured and how stakeholder relationship management affects the progress of innovation development. Design methodology is linked with innovation management literature. A case study observed seven innovation trajectories that developed energy saving and climate-neutral growing techniques in the greenhouse horticultural industry in Flanders (Belgium) and The Netherlands over a period of three years. In-depth interviews (n = 13) were conducted to have the partners reflect on the co-creation process. Results show that co-creation management should focus on team composition, partner alignment and transparent communication about intentions, expectations and role division throughout the process. The initial stages of a co-creation process are crucial for context mapping and creation of team cohesion and do affect the subsequent stages in the process. Besides, in sustainable high-tech contexts, co-creation facilitators are faced with the need for technical knowledge and skills.

In this study, we proposed the concept of hyper-coopetition based on an investigation of the inter-organizational relationships of chipmakers. Hyper-coopetition is distinguished from traditional coopetition by having companies in heterogeneous industries as participants, whereas traditional coopetition is a relationship between competitors in the same industry. To investigate antecedents and processes of hyper-coopetition, we established the conceptual framework of hyper-coopetition through a literature review. We conducted a case study on leading chipmakers, including Intel, Samsung, and Nvidia, to investigate antecedents and processes of the chipmakers’ hyper-coopetition. By examining hyper-coopetition, we contributed to the relevant academic field by introducing hyper-coopetition, its typology, and a new research agenda. The analysis result also brought managerial implications for companies in a rapidly changing environment.

Petrochemical industries have faced growing pressure to decrease their carbon emission from direct and indirect sources. This work aims to demonstrate a carbon tax’s introduction to a feasibility study on the heat exchanger (HE) replacement project at PT Kaltim Methanol Industri, Indonesia. The project was aimed to avoid methanol release as much as 48.88 MT/year. The release of methanol can also be associated with CO2 emission with an emission factor of 0.6 ton CO2e/ton methanol. Here, we investigated the influence of inclusion and exclusion of carbon tax to monetize the CO2 release. From the project investment point of view, carbon tax inclusion is expected to increase the cost-saving. Introduction of the carbon tax as high as 10 USD/ton CO2e with 5% annual increase gives IRR value of 7.06% with Payout Time (PoT) of ca. 11 years. The IRR value without carbon tax scenario is 6.68 % with the same range of PoT. Hence, the inclusion of carbon tax may increase the feasibility of the project. This work has demonstrated the positive role of the carbon tax to increase the feasibility of a project which inlines with the national initiatives to curb the CO2 emission from chemical industries. It is also worth noting that introduction of carbon tax should be accompanied by a reorganization of government incentives, including several financial policies to create a conducive atmosphere for investors in Indonesia.

The purpose of the article is to trace the evolutionary path of innovative entrepreneurship development, as well as to justify the need for modern methods of managing a high-tech economy. In the article the importance of business at different levels of economic development analyzed, the works of the innovation management classics and entrepreneurship were studied and approaches to the development of countries entrepreneurship with high growth rates in the Global Innovation Index were compared. The relevance of the article is caused by the increasing role of entrepreneurship in industry 4.0. New approaches to business processes are important from the innovation management point of view. The methodological base of the research is empirical research methods such as: system and comparative analysis, analysis of cause and effect relationships, observation, grouping.

The objective of our study is to explore how the innovation practice of a small service company can be identified and developed from the managerial point of view. The study is based on the intensive case study strategy utilizing observational and interview data. The analysis shows how a new theoretical approach (the practice approach) and a new methodological tool (the CODE-method) can be used in the study of innovation management. The results show that the innovation practice of the case company was based on five distinctive innovation processes initiated by different actors inside and outside of the company. Utilizing the full potential of these five processes would however require solving two problems: managing and organizing all five processes more efficiently and relaxing the CEO-centricity of the innovation practice.

A project  implementation  schedule  can be said to be successful  if the implementation  process  can be completed in accordance with the planned time. Planning a good project implementation schedule must be supported by good project control. Because what happens in the field is not necessarily in accordance with what has been planned. By analyzing the cost and end time of project completion, it can provide detailed project performance schedule information. In this study, the analysis of the project implementation schedule is done manually, which is to make the S curve and use the Microsoft Project 2019 program. The method used is to enter the data related to the analysis into the program, then this Microsoft project will calculate automatically according to the formulas. calculation formula that has been made, so that the calculation of the project implementation  schedule  analysis  will be faster and more accurate.  The results of the cost analysis following the price of the Trenggalek district work unit for the renovation of the City Square is IDR. 6,078,136,530. Estimated schedule in planning the S schedule time curve with Microsoft Project 2019, there is a time difference of scheduling 39 calendar days or a difference of 1 month more that can save time and costs of implementing work. At the planning stage of scheduling with an S curve of 20 weeks or 140 days, using Microsoft Project 2019, the results obtained 101 days of project completion time. In the area of ornamental  plants  experiencing  critical  trajectory,  due  to  the  end  of  the  work  that  is expected  to  be completed and handover, so it must add workers to be on target

Woodcarvers often report their experiences as having an intense internal focus, and feeling of a close connection to the material. This article explore key processes in cells and organs that underlies these experiences, emphasizing the sensorymotor modulation in cerebellum. The article has two aims: To bring neurobiological knowledge into the making disciplines to better understand the making process; To mediate terminological differences between disciplines and open up new research-based hypotheses and theoretical foundations for future interdisciplinary studies. Findings include three topics for further exploration: 1) The overflow of information in cerebellum and the maker’s experience of intense internal focus. 2) Cerebellum’s function as generator of deliberate actions without involving the conscious self and the so-called preconscious element of the maker’s negotiation. 3) The priority of neural circuits between sensory input and muscle output in Cerebellum at the cost of neural circuits to cerebral cortex’ monitoring and self-reflection and the maker’s experience as being close to the material. These findings expand upon previous knowledge developed in studies of making processes from sociocultural and philosophical point of view, and are useful for researchers and teachers interested in understanding and advancing the making disciplines and arts and craft education.


The article focuses on the problem of the lack of objective evaluation of space-planning arrangement of buildings as a creative approach of the architect to the performing of functional tasks by the object. It is proposed to create a methodology for assessing the functional of space-planning solutions of buildings on the basis of numerical simulation of functional processes using the theory of human flows. There is a description of the prospects of using this method, which makes it possible to increase the coefficient of compactness, materials and works saving, more efficient use of space, reduce the cost of the life cycle of the building, save human forces and time to implement the functional of the building. The necessary initial data for modeling on the example of shopping and shopping-entertainment centers are considered. There are three main tasks for algorithmization of the functional of shopping centers. The conclusion is made about necessity of development of a method for objective assessment of buildings from the point of view of ergonomics of space-planning decisions based on the study of human behavior in buildings of different purposes.

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to offer an insight into innovation management in the knowledge-based society. It sets off by explaining the concept of knowledge-based society and why it bears relevance for the modern world. Next, innovation and related concepts are introduced. Furthermore, a presentation of National Innovation Systems (NIS) is made, their history and role in the understanding of a systemic approach to research, development and innovation at both national and global level. Next, the OECD main guidelines for the elaboration of national innovation policies are presented. Last but not least, an analysis of the current situation of research and innovation in Romania is also included.
