The paper presented the research on for German Navy's second battalion headquarters building site from the perspectives of building site, building plane, building facades and building structure. building site conformed to terrain, Shapes of building facades were flexible and varied, the overall architectural construction was brick-stone-wood composite structure.The building style was the typical of German Romanticism, both in layout or in the facade shape, color, structure, etc.; it had shown the lively romantic chic, eclectic architectural style.

The discoloration of building facades due to airborne algae is observed in our surroundings. The growth conditions of these algae are not yet fully understood, and efficient measures for preventing the growth of the algae are not presently available. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of the ambient environment and building structure on algal growth. A residential building in a cold region of Japan was surveyed. The roof was a multi-layered structure comprising a semi-transparent film, an air layer, and a layer of insulation from the outside, supported by rafters. The soiled state was visually observed by taking photographs. On the northeast (NE) and northwest (NW) roofs, several black stripes appeared 4 months after cleaning. The soiling increased in the spring and autumn. The soiling first appeared on the film backed by the rafter and then extended to the film backed by the air layer. The condensation time during the day in the rafter part was longer than that in the air-layer part. Condensation occurred during the night, but its frequency exhibited no dependence on the orientation of the roof. Algae tend to die when exposed to an environment with a temperature higher than 45°C. The NE roof had the shortest period with a surface temperature of >45°C. These measurements agreed well with the survey results, which indicated that the soiling mainly occurred on the NE and NW sides of the roofs. The time for algal growth was estimated under the assumption that algae can grow at surface temperatures ranging from 0 to 45°C, in agreement with the observed soiling. The observed soiling changes were well explained by the algal population calculated via a growth predictive model according to the algal temperature and relative humidity.

Hotel Kota Tepian have been around for a long time around 1990, Hotel Kota Tepian are included in the class of 2 star hotels that have various facilities such as 25 rooms to stay with various types of superior, premium, and standard. Hotel Kota Tepian also provides facilities for meetings, restaurants and SPA.The advantages of the Hotel Kota Tepian are its strategic location and is located in the middle of the city close to public facilities, offices and shopping centers such as Segiri Market, Mall Plaza Mulia, and Lembuswana while the shortcomings and problems of the Hotel Kota Tepian are designing the City Edge Hotel with emphasis on building facades using a modern architectural style, then designing natural lighting and artificial redesign on the interior of the Hotel Kota Tepian. Therefore, Kota Tepian hotel really needs to be redesigned to restore the image of the hotel in terms of visual aesthetic facade so that it becomes an attraction for visitors to come and feel comfortable while Kota Tepian Hotel.Keywords: Hotel, Kota Tepian, Redesign, Building, Facade. Maka dari itu Hotel Kota Tepian sangat perlu untuk di redesain untuk mengembalikan citra hotel dari segi estetika visual fasad sehingga menjadi daya tarik bagi pengunjung untuk datang dan merasa nyaman saat berada di Hotel Kota Tepian.Kata Kunci: Hotel, Kota Tepian, Redesain, Fasad, Bangunan.

The selection of material is one of the important aspects used to design a building as it is known that every type of material has a different characteristic. The steel material used as the main component of building structure because of its ductility is more than another material which is the main criterion to design an earthquake resistance building. In this paper, an earthquake steel resistant structure building will be design. This building structure will consist of a five-story office with a regular structure configuration. A special moment frame (SMF) used as the resisting structure system of the earthquake loads as the amount of its load is analyzed using the spectrum response method. The steel material used is type of A36 (fy = 250 MPa; fu = 400 MPa), concrete used f’c = 30 MPa. The design process then produces an earthquake steel resistant structure building, which satisfies the requirement of story drift with a maximum number of story drift occurred in the 2nd story which is 93.5 mm less than allowed story drift that is 95 mm. A structure element dimension used is a beam with a profile of W16x7x40 for every level in the X-axis direction, and the beam with a profile is W14x6.75x38 for every level in Y-axis direction, 12 cm thick plates and column with a profile W14x16x211 is regularly used to every level.

In this article, we highlight an underappreciated individual difference: structure building. Structure building is integral to many everyday activities and involves creating coherent mental representations of conversations, texts, pictorial stories, and other events. People vary in this ability in a way not generally captured by other better known concepts and individual difference measures. Individuals with lower structure-building ability consistently perform worse on a range of comprehension and learning measures than do individuals with higher structure-building ability, both in the laboratory and in the classroom. Problems include a range of comprehension processes, including encoding factual content, inhibiting irrelevant information, and constructing a cohesive situation model of a text or conversation. Despite these problems, recent research is encouraging in that techniques to improve the learning outcomes for low-ability structure builders have been identified. We argue that the accumulated research warrants the recognition of structure building as an important individual difference in cognitive functioning and that additional theoretical work is needed to understand the underpinnings of structure-building deficits.

Nowadays, there are many systems can be used in multi-layer civil building, such as masonry-concrete structure, cast-in-situ concrete structure and assembled concrete structure. Each of them has its own features, and advantages in different aspects. In this paper, Vague set theory is used to comprehensively evaluate different types of multilayer civil structure system, and conclusion is made that the assembled concrete structure building performs more efficiently in both economic and social aspect, and could be popularized in our building industry.

The global population is growing exponentially with a trend of people moving to cities, resulting in rapid growth in the urban built environment. It is critical for urban planners to promote health, comfort, and resiliency in urban areas through integrated solar access requirements within zoning regulations. This paper evaluates the potential for the Solar Envelope Zoning (SEZ) method as a zoning tool in Toronto, Canada. The SEZ method is compared with current zoning regulations and mid-rise buildings guidelines using parametric modelling to establish the solar envelope on a typical building site. The resulting development density and solar radiation incident on adjacent building facades is evaluated. A similar study is performed on a site that is currently proposed for development along one of Toronto’s main avenues. The results show that by redefining solar access requirements to include climate dependent variables, SEZ can provide competitive development density while improving solar access.

Zoning conflicts have transformed Old Street fabrics in terms of architectural style and construction material in Lukang, Taiwan. This transformation should be assessed as a contribution to digital cultural sustainability. The objective of this study was to compare the evolved façades resultant from the changes made by the development of architectural history and urban planning. A combination of 3D scan technology and a smartphone augmented reality (AR) app, Augment®, was applied to the situated comparison with direct interaction on-site. The AR application compared 20 façades in the laboratory and 18 façades in four different sites using a flexible interface. The comparisons identified the correlation of evolved façades in real sites in terms of building volumes and components, pedestrian arcades on store fronts, and previous installations. The situated comparisons were facilitated in a field study with real-time adjustments to 3D models and analyses of correlations across details and components. The application of AR was demonstrated to be effective in reinstalling scenes and differentiating diversified compositions of vocabulary in a remote site.
