The importance of crime witnesses in policing and crime control cannot be overemphasized. In Nigeria, a constant impediment in the effective operation of the criminal justice system machineries is the non-cooperation of crime witnesses with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force. Against this background, this paper examines the causes and consequences of crime witnesses' non-cooperation in police investigations in Nigeria. Rational choice theory was employed for its theoretical anchorage. A wide range of socio-cultural factors were identified as sustaining the traditional communication gap between the Police and crime witnesses that possess vital information which can aid their crime investigation. The Nigeria Police Force is urged to develop a holistic road-map through which the level of public confidence in its operation can be boosted.

The function of Digital Forensics in Online Gambling Crime Investigation by the Agam Police Criminal Investigation Unit is to obtain evidence of an online gambling crime by knowing who did it, what was done, what software was used, what process results were used and when to do it . In online gambling crimes that occur in the jurisdiction of the Agam Police, evidence collected through digital forensics is in the form of information on gambling crimes carried out by examining sites that are used as a means or place for gambling. Constraints in Using Digital Forensics in Online Gambling Crime Investigation By Satreskrim Agam Police is the address of most online gambling websites located abroad and made by foreign countries, bank accounts are always changing. The application data for opening a bank account that is used to accept online gambling transactions is fictitious, evidence is easy to change and is lost, the high level of knowledge of the actors about information technology and the lack of public awareness and concern for online gambling.

Present days, oft en called Information Age, or Computer Age are characterized by the decrease of natural social interaction between people. Th us the social potential of sports activities is shift ing to the centre of scholar’s attention. Not only the worldwire spread, popularity, active participating and its media coverage make sports the social phenomenon of the day. Various aspects of sport make it possible to infl uence the society and visa versa. Th e research of socializing power of sports has traditionally diff ered between socializing into sports, socializing during sports, or through sport and fi nally socializing directly in sports. However nowadays, the width of sport disciplines that involves wide range of physical activities at various intensity levels makes it almost impossible to make any generalizations based on results coming from more sport fi elds (individual, collective) and foremost performance levels (recreational, performance level, top athlete level). Moreover, reasons for getting involved in sport activities can be rather individualized. Th is implies foremost the necessity to off er kids and the youth colourful variety of sport activites in all performance levels.

AbstractMorphogenesis is a process describing how the shapes of living tissues and bodies are created during development. Living and fossil organisms exhibit enormously diverse tissue architecture and body forms, although the functions of organs are evolutionally conserved. Current knowledge reveals that relatively conserved mechanisms are applied to control development among different species. However, the regulations of morphogenesis are quite diverse in detail. Animals in the ocean display a wide range of diversity of morphology suitable for their seawater environment. Nevertheless, compared with the intensive studies on terrestrial animals, research on marine animal morphogenesis is still insufficient. The increasing genomic data and the recently available gene editing methods, together with the fast development of imaging techniques, quantitative analyses and biophysical models, provide us the opportunities to have a deeper understanding of the principles that drive the diverse morphogenetic processes in marine animals. In this review, we summarize the recent studies of morphogenesis and evolution at molecular, cellular and tissue levels, with a focus on three model marine animals, namely ascidians, sea urchins and sea anemones.

E-gambling has dramatically changed the way of wagering and nowadays even more individuals are moving from the terrestrial to online gambling venues. At the same time, it is considered as one of the fastest growing sectors of e-commerce. Characteristically, the global internet gambling gross market is expected to exceed US $43 billion by 2015. As a consequence, its dynamics has forced many researchers to investigate e-gambling scientific field from different perspectives trying to gain an improved insight into gamblers behavior in the cyberspace. The scope of this paper is to examine the perceived advantages and disadvantages of terrestrial and online gamblers towards e-gambling activities focusing on university students. Furthermore, it aims to identify possible differences and similarities between the two groups of respondents. The research results are believed to provide interesting insights to both academia and gambling industry.

The Impact

Technology has always played a role in the development of gambling practices and continues to provide new market opportunities. One of the fastest growing areas is that of Internet gambling (also known as online gambling). Examples include online lotteries, online casinos, online bookmakers, online betting exchanges, online poker sites, etc. The impact of such technologies should not be accepted uncritically, particularly as there may be areas of potential concern based on what is known about problem gambling offline. This chapter therefore has three aims. Firstly, it highlights salient factors in the rise of Internet gambling (i.e., accessibility, affordability, anonymity, convenience, escape immersion/dissociation, disinhibition, event frequency, asociability, and simulation). Secondly, it examines whether Internet gambling is ‘doubly addictive’ given research that suggests that the internet can be addictive itself. Finally, it overviews some of the main social concerns about the rise of Internet gambling before examining a few future trends in relation to remote gambling more generally.

Internet gambling has risen greatly in recent years, yet there has been very little published research concerning the particular structural and situational characteristics of internet gambling and how these may impact on gambling behaviour and problem gambling. This study develops a comprehensive list of all the structural and situational characteristics of internet gambling and identifies those which may be more problematic for internet gambling compared with offline gambling. A scoping study was undertaken to gather evidence from a wide range of sources, including a Delphi review process among a panel of eight experts to reach consensus on the assessment rating given to each characteristic. Results show that internet gambling has a number of unique structural and situational characteristics compared to offline gambling and it would appear that a number of characteristics may be more problematic for internet gamblers compared to offline equivalents.

AbstractGambling is a common activity amongst young adults in the UK, and was a behavior of interest during the early mitigation against COVID-19 (first lockdown). The Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) was used to investigate attitudes, moods and behavior during lockdown in England. ALSPAC participants were invited to complete online questionnaires in May 2020, including a set of questions about frequency of gambling and gambling activities which had been asked three years previously. Mental health and wellbeing data and alcohol use were also collected as part of lockdown questionnaires. Gambling questions were completed by 2632 young adults, 71% female, with a mean age of 27.8 years. Overall, gambling frequency reduced during lockdown for both males and females, but more males engaged in regular (weekly) gambling. Gambling activities became more restricted compared to previous reports, but online gambling (e.g. online poker, bingo, casino games) was more frequent. Previous gambling behaviour predicted gambling frequency during lockdown. No associations were apparent between gambling frequency and measures of mental health and well-being. Heavy alcohol use was strongly linked with regular gambling during lockdown. Gamblers were more than twice as likely as non-gamblers to have experienced financial difficulties pre-COVID, but gambling frequency was not related to employment status during lockdown. Online gambling increased during lockdown, whilst offline gambling activities decreased in frequency. A small minority of regular weekly gamblers, who tended to be male and heavy users of alcohol, participated in a wide range of online and offline gambling activities.
