For the recycling of rapid-cooled steel slag (RCSS), various specimens were prepared with the different replacement ratios of RCSS and the addition ratios of polymer binder. The physical properties of these specimens were then investigated by compressive strength test, flexural strength test, water absorption test, hot water resistance test, measurement of pore distribution and observation of micro-structures using scanning electron microscope(SEM). Results showed that compressive and flexural strength increased with the addition ratios of polymer binder and replacement ratios of RCSS, but those strengths decreased reversely when addition ratio of polymer binder and replacement ratio of RCSS were excessively high. By the hot water resistance test, the compressive strength and flexural strength decreased remarkably and total pore volume increased but bulk density decreased. SEM observation of structure before hot water resistance test revealed very compact infusion of structure but decomposition or thermal degradation appeared in polymer binder when observed after the hot water resistance test.

Concrete made from ordinary Portland cement is one of the most widely used construction materials due to its excellent compressive strength. However, concrete lacks ductility resulting in low tensile strength and flexural strength, and poor resistance to crack formation. Studies have demonstrated that the addition of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheet can effectively enhance the compressive and flexural properties of ordinary Portland cement paste, confirming GO nanosheet as an excellent candidate for using as nano-reinforcement in cement-based composites. To date, the majority of studies have focused on cement pastes and mortars. Only limited investigations into concretes incorporating GO nanosheets have been reported. This paper presents an experimental investigation on the slump and physical properties of concrete reinforced with GO nanosheets at additions from 0.00% to 0.08% by weight of cement and a water–cement ratio of 0.5. The study demonstrates that the addition of GO nanosheets improves the compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength of concrete, whereas the slump of concrete decreases with increasing GO nanosheet content. The results also demonstrate that 0.03% by weight of cement is the optimum value of GO nanosheet dosage for improving the split tensile strength of concrete.

Raw clay is used nowadays in construction as a component of mortars and plasters and as a binder in composites based on straw or shives. It is a material with good sorption properties and vapor permeability, but it is susceptible to shrinkage, is not resistant to water, and also is characterized by low mechanical strength, which makes it impossible to be used, for example, in external plasters. Various additives and admixtures are used to improve selected properties of clay mortars. The article presents the research results and assessment of the effect of glauconite clay mortar modification with an admixture of linseed oil varnish on selected properties. Admixtures in the amounts of 1%, 2%, and 3% in relation to clay weight were used. Flexural and compressive strength, water resistance, shrinkage, drying capacity, density, and porosity of mortar, were tested. The admixture of linseed oil varnish in the amounts used in the investigation had a positive effect on some of the tested properties; regardless of the quantity of the admixture, the modified mortars had better parameters concerning flexural strength, shrinkage reduction, and water resistance than the reference mortar, without admixture.
