In-situ purification technology is used to improve the water quality of reservoir water, which uses the biofilm formed by enrichment microbes gathering on carrier system to purify water. Results indicate that total nitrogen and algae can be effectively removed, and the average removal rate of total nitrogen and the chlorophyll a is 18.1% and 25% respectively. The result of PCR-DGGE indicates that compared with the biological community in raw water, the biofilm on ecological carriers exhibit a more diverse population structure. Fluorescent pseudomonad which can effectively remove nitrogen and pseudomonas aeruginosa which can dissolve algae have formed stable microbial population structures in the in- situ purification area.

This paper shows the results obtained in field analysis performed at the Tamis River, starting from the settlement Jasa Tomic - border between Serbia and Romania to Pancevo - confluence of Tamis into the Danube. The Tamis is a 359 km long river rising in the southern Carpathian Mountains. It flows through the Banat region and flows into the Danube near Pancevo. During the years the water quality of the river has severely deteriorated and badly affected the environment and the river ecosystem. In situ measurements enabled determination of physico-chemical parameters of water quality of the Tamis River on every 400 m of the watercourse, such as: water temperature, pH value, electrical conductivity, contents of dissolved oxygen and oxygen saturation. The main reason of higher pollution of Tamis is seen in connection to DTD hydro system. Sampling was performed at 7 points with regard to color, turbidity, total hardness, alkalinity, concentration of ammonium nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, iron, chlorides and sulphates in samples. The aim of the present work was to evaluate water quality in the Tamis River taking into account significant pollution, which originates from settlements, industry and agriculture, and to suggest appropriate preventive measures to further pollution decreasing of the river's water.

This study conducted to determine the water quality of Situ Ciburuy based on the structure of the gastropod community as a bioindicator. The survey method used in this study based on collecting data directly at the research area (purpose sampling method).  For instance, species and density of gastropods were descriptively analyzed, using diversity index and evenes index. For instance, The findings showed that level of water quality in  Situ Ciburuy based on gastropods bioindicators was lightly polluted. That is indicated by the low to moderate diversity of gastropods, which ranges from 1.31-1.98. The Shannon evenness index (0,73-0.95) revealed low gastropod species diversity in Situ Ciburuy, indicating low evenness of gastropod in Situ Ciburuy.

Abstract The Santiago River is one of Mexico's most polluted waterways and evaluating its surface water quality during the COVID-19 outbreak is critical to assessing the changes and improvements, if any, from the nationwide lockdown (April-May 2020). Hence, the data for 12 water quality parameters from 13 sampling stations during April-May 2020 (lockdown) were compared with the levels for the same period of 2019 (pre-lockdown) and with the same interval of previous eleven-years (2009-2019). The values of BOD (14%), COD (29%), TSS (7%), f. coli (31%), t. coli (14%) and Pb (20%) declined, while pH, EC, turbidity, total nitrogen and As enhanced by 0.3-21% during the lockdown compared to the pre-lockdown period suggesting decrements of organic load in the river due to the temporary closure of industrial and commercial activities. An eleven-year comparison estimated the reduction of pH, TSS, COD, total nitrogen and Pb by 1-38%. The analysis of water quality index estimates showed short-term improvements of river water quality in the lockdown period, compared to pre-lockdown and eleven-year trend as well as indicated very poor quality of the river. The contamination sources identified by factor analysis were mainly related to untreated domestic sewage, industrial wastewaters and agriculture effluents influencing the river water quality. Overall, our findings demonstrated positive responses of COVID-19 imposed lockdown on water quality of the Santiago River during the study period, providing a foundation for the government policy makers to identify the sources of pollution, to better design environmental policies and plans for water quality improvements.

The enhanced coagulation of algae-rich raw water from Lake Taihu in summer was studied by use of composite coagulants. The composite coagulants were composed of polyaluminum chloride (PAC) and polydimethyldiallylammonium chloride (PDM) with various intrinsic viscosity values (0.55–3.99 dL/g) and different mass percentages (5–20%) in the formulation. For raw water with temperature of 28–29°C and algae content of 3.60 × 104–3.70 × 104 cells/ml, the algae-removal rates of 89.0% and 89.3–93.1% could be realized by using PAC and PAC/PDM (0.55/5%–3.99/20%) with dosages of 8.37 mg/L and 5.93–3.58 mg/L, respectively, when 2 NTU residual turbidity of treated water after sedimentation was required. Compared with using PAC only, the removal rate of CODMn using PAC/PDM increased at least 4.4% when the dosage was 8 mg/L, and increased at least 5.0% when the dosage was 10 mg/L. The composite coagulants could still function well when raw water quality deteriorated and algae content reached 8.00 × 104 cells/ml. The enhanced coagulation efficiency of PAC/PDM (0.55/5%) could be better than that of PAC combined with prechlorination process when the same dosages are used.

The lack of clean water distribution by local water service (PDAM) of Palangka Raya city is the major reason for people around the final processing site/landfill (Tempat Pemrosesan Akhir) at Km 14 to use groundwater for their daily life. The landfill may cause pollution over groundwater known as leachate, which commonly unnoticed by its users. This study aims at assessing the quality of groundwater in that area. The groundwater was taken at different distances from the site in three rainless-days. The physical, chemical and biology parameters of groundwater are observed in the field (in situ) and analyzed in the laboratory, refers to water quality standard of Class I, according to Government Regulation No. 82 of 2001 and Minister of Health Regulation No. 32 of 2017. Public opinion on that issue is cached through interview. The results showed that the groundwater around the landfill in three rainless-days was harmless to be consumed as drinking water, and did not exceed the water quality standards stipulated by government in term of odorless, tasteless, and colorless. Some indicators also show that the groundwater meets the specified quality standards, i.e. TDS (17-68.14 mg/L), DHL (17,15-69.39 ?s), turbidity (0.11-2.50 mg/L), iron (0.227-0.71 mg/L), manganese (<0.0123-0.02 mg/L), coliform (<1.8-280 MPN/100 ml), while Pb and H2S were not detected. From community side, there are no any health complaints arise as long as they use the water.

Study in order to know distribution of pollution source and its effect on water quality of the middle and down stream of Musi River was conducted in April and June 2007 and January 2008. Fourteen sampling sites were selected based on the pollution source and the minimal degradation site (reference sites). Parameters observed were pollution source distribution and water and sediment parameters such as physical and chemical parameters. Water sample was collected at 0.5 m from water surface by using Kemmerer water sampler while sediment samples were taken by using Ekman grab. Some of the parameters were analyzed in situ while the rest were analyzed in laboratory. Results indicated that oil palm and rubber industries were mostly the pollution source in Musi River. Potential pollution source was mostly found in the middle and down stream of Musi River since most of pollution source and high water utilization found in this area. Water quality parameters except total suspended solid and biochemical oxygen demand, were still in the range that can be tolerated by the aquatic organisms. Rain fall tends to decrease water quality of the river. Concentration of heavy metal such as Chrom (Cr+6) and plumbum in the sediment were in still in low concentration with the highest concentration reaching 13.481 and 1.747 μg per g respectively.
