Al-Mg welding wires applied extensively in aluminum alloy welding field.5183 ingot and 5356 ingot added Sc, Zr and Er were fabricated by DC casting method and extruded into welding wire, furtherly. Surfacing layer on 7A52 aluminum alloy prepared by using automatic surfacing formation system. Optical microscopy (OM) and 1600-5122VD MICROMET 5104 micro-hardness tester utilized to observe microstructure of 5183 and 5356 ingots, to measure micro-hardness of surfacing layer fabricated by using 5183 and 5356 welding wire with Sc, Zr, Er addition, respectively. The results indicated that, owing to addition of rare earth element, re-crystallization of Al-Mg extruded ingot to generate welding wire was restrained markedly; Microstructure was refined obviously when Sc added; And average size of the grains was about 10μm. Micro-hardness of surfacing layer improved after addition of Sc, Zr, Er element in the ingots.

In order to improve the surface properties of the aluminum alloy, an amorphous composite coating was prepared on the surface of the aluminum alloy substrate by electrothermal explosion spraying with fully amorphous Fe-Si-B ribbons. The microstructure, phase structure and micro-hardness of the coating were characterized by SEM, XRD and Vickers hardness tester. The results show that the composite coating is composed of amorphous phase and nanocrystal phase. The coating has dense structure and low porosity. It has not been seen rough laminar microstructure that is frequently obtained by other thermal spray techniques. The amorphous composite coatings with different thickness present higher hardness and show good mechanical properties.

Cr3C2-NiCr has high quality of wear resistant properties and is widely used in abrasive environment. In this paper, Cr3C2-NiCr coating was prepared on 45 steel by laser cladding technology. Analysis and research of the coatings were achieved by SEM and XRD to determine the main component and the different region on coatings. The hardness and the element component were investigated by micro-hardness tester and EDS. Abrasion tests were performed to contrast the wear resistance of two materials. The results indicate that the hardness of the coatings is nearly 3 times as the substrate. The coatings are well combined with the substrate and the phase of Cr3C2 has a large proportion in the coatings. Abrasion tests show that the average of wear rate on substrate is 5.2 times as the coatings.

To develop high wear-resistant protective materials for magnesium alloy, high-silica Al-based alloy modified via P-element was fabricated by DC casting method. Microstructure of ingot samples was observed by using optical microscopy (OM), etc. The results demonstrated that Al-Si-0.01%P alloy with unique microstructure and without defects such as voids and rarefaction might be generated by processing control. Owing to modification by Al-P interalloy, primary crystal silicon phase in hypereutectic Al-Si alloy were refined effectively. Its size in Al-18Si-0.01%P alloy decreased from 50μm to 20μm, and distributed uniquely than that in Al-18Si alloy. Al-P acted as heterogeneous core of primary crystal silicon phase, which was the main mechanism for Al-P interalloy to modify primary crystal silicon in Al-Si alloy.

In this paper, accumulative roll bonding (ARB) has been used to prepare the Al/Mg alloy multilayer structure composite materials with 1060Al sheet and MB2 sheet. The evolution of microstructure of the cladding materials during ARB processes was observed by optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy, and micro-hardness was measured by micro-hardness tester. The results show that a multilayer structure material of Al/Mg alloy with excellent bonding characteristics and fine grained microstructure was prepared by ARB processes. With the ARB cycles increasing, Mg alloy layer in multilayer composite material was necked and fractured, and the hardness of the Al and Mg alloy was increased. Average grain size was less than 1μm after ARB4 cycles.

The production possibility of protective films of higher carboxylic (lauric, stearic (SA), oleic and linolenic) acids on a laser-textured surface of an aluminum alloy D16 is discussed. It is shown that such a modification leads to superhydrophobization (SHP) of the alloy surface. The most optimal type of laser processing has been determined: laser power is 12 W and the pass speed is 1000 mm / s. Profilometric measurements determined the average size of surface irregularities which is 6,47 microns. The degradation results of the SHP state in an aqueous solution of 0,05 M NaCl indicate greater stability of films formed from SA solutions. The protective ability of the coatings was evaluated by polarization measurements and corrosion tests in a salt chamber. It was found that films formed from an SA solution had the best anticorrosive properties. According to polarization measurements, an increase in ΔEpt = 220 mV, and the time of the first corrosion damage appears τcor = 384 h.

Microstructure and mechanical tests of welds of thin sheets made from nickel-based super-alloys (Haynes 230 and Hastelloy X) were presented. The welds were made using the resistive-pulse micro-welding method using the WS 7000S device. The micro-hardness of the joints was measured with a Matsuzawa Vickers MX 100 hardness tester at 100 G (0.98 N). Metallographic observations of the prepared micro-sections were performed using the Nikon Eclipse MA200 optical microscope at various magnifications. The metallographic microstructure studies were supplemented by linear analysis of the chemical composition, for which the OXFORD X-MAX electron microscope was applied.

This paper, studied the effect of heat treatment and anodization on corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy 7075 (AA7075), with a view to improving its corrosion resistance. Microstructure and micro hardness of the anodic film of the samples were studied with the aid of optical metallurgical microscope and automated micro hardness testing machine. Linear polarization methods were used to assess the corrosion behaviour of the alloy in 0.5M HCl. The microstructure of the annealed sample showed formation of dendrites while precipitation hardened samples in palm kernel oil and SAE 40 engine oil showed precipitates of MgZn2. The SEMS result showed pores and micro cracks on the surfaces of the anodized samples, with the as cast and anodized sample in sulfuric acid exhibiting most compact with few pores. The as cast and sulfuric acid anodized sample shows highest micro hardness value of 205.33 HV, while the least value of 150.67 HV was recorded in sample precipitation hardened in SAE 40 engine oil and anodized in sulfuric acid. Analysis of the potentiodynamic polarization data and curves showed a linear relationship (decrease in icorr, decreases the corrosion rate) between current density and the corrosion rate in all the samples. Higher polarization resistance of 15.093 Ω/cm2 was recorded by the as cast and Sulfuric acid (SA) anodized sample while the precipitation treated in SAE 40 engine oil plus SA anodized sample recorded lowest polarization resistance of 5.2311 Ω/cm2. Heat treatment alone improves corrosion resistance of AA 7075 in 0.5 M HCl solution but heat treatment plus SA anodization does not improve corrosion resistance in the same environment.
