This paper present an analysis of the mechanics characters of a safety structure with steel liner under near blasting load, by the methods of numerical study. Through the ANSYS/LS-DYNA numerical analysis, we get the reasonable thickness and position location of steel. This paper put forward the curve of the steel at different thickness and position in the safety structure, that provide a reference to the designing of the safety structures and other relevant project.

An axial-flow pump has a relatively high discharge flow rate and specific speed at a relatively low head and it consists of an inlet guide vane, impeller, and outlet guide vane. The interaction of the flow through the inlet guide vane, impeller, and outlet guide vane of the axial-flow pump has a significant effect on its performance. Of those components, the guide vanes especially can improve the head and efficiency of the pump by transforming the kinetic energy of the rotating flow, which has a tangential velocity component, into pressure energy. Accordingly, the geometric configurations of the guide vanes such as blade thickness and angle are crucial design factors for determining the performance of the axial-flow pump. As the reliability of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been elevated together with the advance in computer technology, numerical analysis using CFD has recently become an alternative to empirical experiment due to its high reliability to measure the flow field. Thus, in this study, 1,200mm axial-flow pump having an inlet guide vane and impeller with 4 blades and an outlet guide vane with 6 blades was numerically investigated. Numerical study was conducted using the commercial CFD code, ANSYS CFX ver. 16.1, in order to elucidate the effect of the thickness and angle of the guide vanes on the performance of 1,200mm axial-flow pump. The stage condition, which averages the fluxes between interfaces and is accordingly appropriate for the evaluation of pump performance, was adopted as the interface condition between the guide vanes and the impeller. The rotational periodicity condition was used in order to enable a simplified geometry to be used since the guide vanes feature multiple identical regions. The shear stress transport (SST) k-ω model, predicting the turbulence within the flow in good agreement, was also employed in the CFD calculation. With regard to the numerical simulation results, the characteristics of the pressure distribution were discussed in detail. The pump performance, which will determine how well an axial-flow pump will work in terms of its efficiency and head, was also discussed in detail, leading to the conclusion on the optimal blade thickness and angle for the improvement of the performance. In addition, the total pressure loss coefficient was considered in order to investigate the loss within the flow paths depending on the thickness and angle variations. The results presented in this study may give guidelines to the numerical analysis of the axial-flow pump and the investigation of the performance for further optimal design of the axial-flow pump.

Energy saving within shipping is gaining more attention due to environmental awareness, financial incentives, and, most importantly, new regional and international rules, which limit the acceptable emission from the ships considerably. One of the measures is installation of energy saving devices (ESD). One type of such a device, known as pre-swirl stator (PSS), consists of a number (usually 3 to 5) of fins, which are mounted right in front of the propeller. By modifying the inflow and swirl into the propeller, the fins of a PSS have the possibility to increase the total propulsion efficiency. However, at the same time, they may introduce additional resistance either due to changes in pressure distribution over the aft ship or due to its own resistance of fins. In this paper, the authors present experimental and numerical investigation of a PSS for a chemical tanker. Numerical analysis of the vessel with and without PSS is performed in the model and full scale. Model testing is performed with and without PSS to verify the power savings predicted numerically. Among other quantities, 3D wake field behind the hull is densely measured at different planes, starting from the PSS plane to the rudder stock plane. 3D wake measurements are also conducted with a running propeller. The measurements show considerable improvement in the performance of the vessel fitted with PSS. On the numerical side, analyses show that scale effect plays an important role in the ESD performance. Investigation of the scale effect on the vessel equipped with an ESD provides new insight for the community, which is investing more into the development of energy saving devices, and it offers valuable information for the elaboration of scaling procedures for such vessels.

In this numerical study, Commercial CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) code, ANSYS CFX ver. 17.1, is used to analyze the 3-Dimensional flow characteristics through orifice plate (β = 0.6) with two 90 degree bends in different planes. The purpose of this numerical study is to evaluate measurement accuracy and flow characteristics of orifice flowmeter depending on upstream straight length from 12D to 56D. Thus, numerical calculations of pressure drop caused by swirling flow and distortion of axial velocity profile on orifice plate are performed by using numerical analysis. In addition, numerical analysis results are compared with recommended upstream straight length of ASME Performance Test Codes 19.5 for orifice plates and nozzles. The results show that if upstream straight length of orifice flowmeter is more than 40D, there is a little deviation of differential pressure. Moreover, it is found that up-down asymmetry of recirculation zones is relatively attenuated as the upstream straight length increases.

Abstract Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) becomes one of the most popular equipment in the industry for providing clean energy due to its technical, economic and environmental features. Under the combined loads from wind, wave and current, it is difficult for the prediction of the dynamic response for such FSRU-LNGC (Liquified Natural Gas Carrier) side-by-side mooring system, because of the complicated hydrodynamic interaction between the two floating bodies. In this paper, a non-dimensional damping parameter of the two floating bodies is obtained from a scaled model test. Then the numerical analysis is carried out based on the test results, and the damping lid method is applied to simulate the hydrodynamic interference between floating bodies. The dynamic response of the side-by-side mooring system including six degrees of freedom motion, cable tension and fender force are provided and analyzed. According to the comparisons between numerical results and the test results, it is shown that the proposed coupled analysis model is reliable, and the numerical analysis can properly describe the dynamic response of the multi-floating mooring system in the marine environment. Moreover, the non-dimensional damping parameter which is used in numerical analysis can act as a good reference to the dynamic response analysis of similar multi-floating mooring systems.

In Europe, especially in Poland, wood-fired stoves remain one of the most popular renewable household heating. The use of wood logs in small-scale units stoves are expected to increase substantially. The work proposes a comprehensive approach to modify the design of wood stoves with heating power up to 20 kW, including design works, simulations, and experimental research. The article also presents the numerical study of a combustion process including fluid flow, chemical combustion reaction, and heat exchange in the wood stove. The retrofit enhanced a more stable heat release from the wood stove, which increased efficiency and reduction of the harmful components of combustion.

A numerical analysis of a rooftop vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) for applications in urban area is presented. The numerical simulations were developed to study the flow field through the turbine rotor to analyze the aerodynamic performance characteristics of the device. Three different blade numbers of wind turbine are studied, 2, 3 and 4, respectively. Each one of the models was built in a 3D computational model. The effects generated in the performance of turbines by the numbers of blades are considered. A Sliding Mesh Model (SMM) capability was used to present the dimensionless form of coefficient power and coefficient moment of the wind turbine as a function of the wind velocity and the rotor rotational speed. The numerical study was developed in CFD using FLUENT®. The results show the aerodynamic performance for each configuration of wind turbine rotor. In the cases of Rooftop rotor the power coefficient increases as the blade number increases, while in the case of Savonius rotor the power coefficient decrease as the blades number increases.

Impact is one of very important subjects which always have been considered in mechanical science. Nature of impact is such that which makes its control a hard task. Therefore it is required to present the transfer of impact to other vulnerable part of a structure, when it is necessary, one of the best method of absorbing energy of impact , is by using Thin-walled tubes these tubes collapses under impact and with absorption of energy, it prevents the damage to other parts. Purpose of recent study is to survey the deformation and energy absorption of tubes with different type of cross section (rectangular or square) and with similar volumes, height, mean cross section, and material under loading. Lateral loading of tubes are quasi-static type and beside as numerical analysis, also experimental experiences has been performed to evaluate the accuracy of the results. Results from the surveys is indicates that in a same conditions which mentioned above, samples with square cross section ,absorb more energy compare to rectangular cross section, and also by increscent in thickness, energy absorption would be more.

Masonry structure is heterogeneous and has been widely used in building and construction engineering. The study on cracking pattern of masonry structure is significant to engineering design. Many previous investigations on the failure process of masonry structure are usually based on the homogenization technique by selecting a typical unit of masonry to serve as a representative volume. This kind of numerical analysis neglects the mesoscopic heterogeneous structure, which cannot capture the full cracking process of masonry structures. The cracking process of masonry structure is dominantly affected by its heterogeneous internal structures. In this paper, a mesoscopic mechanical model of masonry material is developed to simulate the behavior of masonry structure. Considering the heterogeneity of masonry material, based on the damage mechanics and elastic-brittle theory, the new developed Material Failure Process Analysis (MFPA2D) system was put forward to simulate the cracking process of masonry structure, which was considered as a two-phase composite of block and mortar phases. The crack propagation processes simulated with this model shows good agreement with those of experimental observations. The numerical results show that numerical analysis clearly reflect the modification, transference and their interaction of the stress field and damage evolution process which are difficult to achieve by physical experiments. It provides a new method to research the forecast theory of failure and seismicity of masonry. It has been found that the fracture of masonry observed at the macroscopic level is predominantly caused by tensile damage at the mesoscopic level.

The study on the effect of winglet shape in wing design has been a focus of many researchers. Nevertheless, the effect of cant angle on the wing performances at low Reynolds number has not been fully explored. This paper describes the effect of a single semi-circular shaped winglet attached with a rectangular wing model to lower the drag without increasing the span of the wing. Aerodynamic characteristics for the rectangular wing (NACA 65-3-218) with and without semi-circular winglets have been studied using STAR CCM+ 4.0. This numerical analysis is based on Finite Volume Approach. Simulations were carried out on the rectangular wing model with and without winglet at aspect ratio of 2.73 and Reynolds number of 0.16 x 10 6 for various angles of attack. From the numerical analysis, wing performance characteristics in terms of lift coefficient CL, drag coefficient CD, and lift-to-drag ratio, CL/CD were obtained. It was found that the addition of a semi-circular winglet has resulted in a larger lift curve slope and higher Lift-to-Drag ratio in comparison with the case of a wing without winglet. Further investigation has revealed that a wing with semi-circular winglet with cant angle of 45 degree has produced the best Lift-to-Drag ratio, CL/CD.

The current study reports numerical analysis of turbulent jets. Effects of various parameters on the characteristics of two-dimensional turbulent plane parallel and offset jets are investigated. The emphasis is put on the effect of the wall angle and nozzle width on the location merging and the combining points. The flowfield under consideration are two-parallel plane jets and offset jets issued from plane wall. Four angles and three values of the nozzle width are used. Also, different values of Reynolds number between 9000 and 39000 have been examined. It is noted that the wall angle and the nozzle width linearly affect the location of the merging and the combining points, while Reynolds number plays no role in their location. The effect of the wall angle on the reattachment point is found to be non linear.
