Phthalocyanine coated crosslinked electrospun PVA/PAA nanofibers were prepared via electrospinning and esterification reaction. The structure of the as-prepared hybrid nanofibers were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectra, scan electron microscopy and UV–visiable absorption spectroscopy. Their photocatalytic activities were evaluated by the degradation of rhodamine B under visible light, and results showed that it exhibited high activity for degradation of rhodamine B in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The recycling test was also carried out to prove its reusability in photocatalytic application

In this work, we report that ZnTiO3/TiO2 composites, which were synthesized by hydrothermal method possessed photocatalytic and potential spraying properties. The obtained ZnTiO3/TiO2 composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction techniques (XRD). Photocatalytic activities of ZnTiO3/TiO2 composites were evaluated by using Rhodamine B (RhB) as a model pollutant under visible light irradiation. The experimental results showed that the as-prepared ZnTiO3 (2%)/TiO2 composite exhibited better photocatalytic activity than that of pure TiO2.

Grape-like structure La3+-doped ZnO nanofibers with different doping concentrations were prepared by electrospinning-calcination technology. The resultant nanofibers were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), photoluminescence spectrum (PL) and X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS) respectively. The photocatalytic activities of the nanofibers for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) in aqueous solution were studied. Results show that the doping concentration of La3+ has an significant influence on the photocatalytic performance of the nanofibers, and 2 mol.% La3+ is the optimal doping concentration.

In the last decade, the urgent need to environmental protection has promoted the development of new materials with potential applications to remediate air and polluted water. In this work, the effect of the TiO2 thin layer over MoS2 material in photocatalytic activity is reported. We prepared different heterostructures, using a combination of electrospinning, solvothermal, and spin-coating techniques. The properties of the samples were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis-DRS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The adsorption and photocatalytic activity were evaluated by discoloration of rhodamine B solution. The TiO2-MoS2/TiO2 heterostructure presented three optical absorption edges at 1.3 eV, 2.28 eV, and 3.23 eV. The high adsorption capacity of MoS2 was eliminated with the addition of TiO2 thin film. The samples show high photocatalytic activity in the visible-IR light spectrum.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to improve the degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B (RhB) by new photocatalytic materials. Design/methodology/approach Binary Z-scheme g-C3N4/Bi2WO6 photocatalytic material was synthesized by the one-step hydrothermal reaction. The construction of Z-scheme heterojunction led to the rapid separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, which would degrade RhB into small molecular substances to achieve the purpose of degradation. Findings It was found that Bi2WO6/25%g-C3N4 displayed the highest photocatalytic activity, which was about 1.44 and 1.34 times higher than that of pure Bi2WO6 and g-C3N4, respectively. According to the trapping experiments, the superoxide radical (·O2−) was the major active species of the RhB decomposition in Bi2WO6/g-C3N4 catalysts. Originality/value The successful synthesis of Z-scheme Bi2WO6/g-C3N4 provides new ideas and references for the design of catalysts with high photocatalytic activity, which should have wide applications in the future.

Titanium and zirconium oxides (TiO2 and ZrO2, respectively) were obtained from alkoxides hydrolyses, and then deposited into palygorskite clay mineral (Pal) to obtain new materials for photocatalytic applications. The obtained materials were characterized by structural, morphological, and textural techniques. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed the characteristic peaks of oxides and clay transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of the modified palygorskite with both oxides showed that the clay was successfully modified by the proposed method. The increase in the specific surface area of the clay occurred when TiO2 and ZrO2 were deposited on the surface. The photocatalytic activity of these materials was investigated using the Remazol Blue anion dye under UV light. The evaluated systems presented high photocatalytic activity, reaching approximately 98% of dye discoloration under light. Thus, TiO2–Pal and ZrO2–TiO2–Pal are promising clay mineral-based photocatalysts.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanofibers in the anatase structure were successfully prepared via electrospinning technique followed by calcination process. The morphologies, crystal structure, surface area, and the photocatalytic activity of resulting TiO2nanofibers were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen sorption, and UV-vis spectroscopy. The results revealed that calcination temperature had greatly influenced the morphologies of TiO2nanofibers, but no obvious effect was noticed on the crystal structure of TiO2nanofibers. The photocatalytic properties of TiO2nanofibers were evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) in water under visible light irradiation. It was observed that TiO2nanofibers obtained by calcination at 500°C for 3 hours exhibited the most excellent photocatalytic activity. We present a novel and simple method to fabricate TiO2nanofibers with high-photocatalytic activity.

Anatase TiO 2 with {001} facets is much more active than that with {101} facets, which has been verified via experiments and theoretical calculations. Graphene has garnered much attention since it was initially synthesized, due to its unique properties. In this study, reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/{001} faceted TiO 2 composites were fabricated via a solvothermal method. The composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectrophotometry, photoluminescence and Raman analysis. The results revealed that the graphene oxide was reduced during the preparation process of the {001} faceted TiO 2 , and combined with the surface of {001} TiO 2 . The photocatalytic activities of the composites were evaluated through the degradation of basic violet, under both white light ( λ > 390 nm) and visible light ( λ = 420 nm) irradiation. The results indicated that the photocatalytic activities of the {001} faceted TiO 2 were significantly improved following the incorporation of RGO, particularly under visible light irradiation. Theoretical calculations showed that the band structure of the {001} faceted TiO 2 was modified via graphene hybridization, where the separation of photoinduced electron–hole pairs was promoted; thus, the photocatalytic activity was enhanced.

Zn-doped SnO2 seaflower like hierarchical architectures have been synthesized via a solvothermal synthesis route in the mixed solvents of ethanol and deionized water. The observations of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that Zn-doped SnO2 seaflower like hierarchical architectures were assembled by the nanowires. The preferential growth direction of nanowires was determined based on the analysis of high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The products were also characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-photoelectron spectrum (XPS), and the results indicated that Sn4+ ions were successfully substituted by Zn2+. The photocatalytic activity of Zn-doped SnO2 seaflower like hierarchical architectures was evaluated by the degradation of RhB aqueous solution and the results showed that the product had high photocatalytic activity efficiency.
