Thanks to a broad historical-anthropological and clinical examination, the authors re-evaluate the role of hunger in the development of our species, and also in that of the individual. The alternation empty/full, internal/ external, the complex game that is established between need, object and desire, structures the childhood of the human cub. In the same way, the alternation between active and passive gaze inaugurates and accompanies the adolescent turbulence, often dictating the rhythms. The third stage of this speech, relating to the season of maturity, focuses on the (dangerous) intersection between food and air, between when we breathe and when we swallow. The lecture ends with the theme of fasting in old age, which engages the themes of depression, involution and detachment.

This article reviews recent literature on the Axial Age as a phase of world history and seeks to illuminate the role of Christian missionaries as part of this broad perspective. Introduced by Karl Jaspers in 1949, the concept has attracted attention from scholars interested in human development. The cognitive psychologist Merlin Donald views it as the third stage of “brain-culture co-evolution,” which draws on the external memory storage that literacy provides. I argue that missionaries have been central agents in conveying such stored knowledge to non-axial cultures.

The year 2011 was defined by the intersection of politics and economics: the Wisconsin protests, the Occupy Movement, anti-austerity demonstrations, the Buffett Rule, and so on. These events drew attention to the role of politics in the erosion of labor power, the rise of inequality, and the excesses of overconsumption. Moving beyond periodic and dutiful action directed at an increasingly unresponsive government, citizens tested the boundaries of what we consider civic engagement by embracing personalized forms of “lifestyle politics” enacted in everyday life and often directed at the market. These issues are the focus of this volume, which we divide into four sections. The first section attempts both to situate consumption in politics as a contemporary phenomenon and to view it through a wider historical lens. The second section advances the notion of sustainable citizenship at the individual/group level and the societal/institutional level, and understands consumption as socially situated and structured. Extending this thinking, the third section explores various forms of conscious consumption and relates them to emerging modes of activism and engagement. The fourth section questions assumptions about the effectiveness of the citizen-consumer and the underlying value of political consumerism and conscious consumption. We conclude by distilling six core themes from this collection for future work.

Research on cross-nativity partnering – relationships between immigrants and non-immigrants – has mainly focused on socioeconomic determinants and outcomes of these unions, and their sociopolitical consequences remain underexplored. Extrapolating existing research reveals how cross-nativity relationships may serve as conduits of resources, knowledge, and connections that facilitate political participation; as spaces of political resocialization, bringing together partners with different experiences and understandings of citizenship; and, alternatively, as a selection mechanism whereby immigrant integration results in cross-nativity relationships among those more likely to participate in politics. Using data from the Current Population Survey (CPS) and linking information about married and cohabiting couples, this study assesses whether cross-nativity partnering is associated with voting. Logistic regression models predicting voting using respondents’ and their partners’ immigrant generation indicate two broad findings. First, having a second or third+ generation partner is positively associated with voting, consistent with theoretical expectations that US-born partners provide resources or signal selection. Second, and more surprisingly, there is small but significant variation in voting among the third+ generation based on their partner’s immigrant generation. This indicates inadequacies in theorizing US-born partners solely as providers, and is more consistent with political resocialization. Importantly, this finding challenges theoretical and empirical assumptions in immigration research about the third+ generation as a static baseline. Overall, this study contributes to expanding scholarly focus beyond the individual to the role of relationships, in particular of spouses and cohabiting partners, in integrating immigrants into political life, and, more broadly, in shaping and contextualizing interactions between the state and its citizens and subjects.

Abstract Design for Assembly (DFA) can have a significant influence on the cost of a product. DFA is especially beneficial for products that are robotically assembled, due to the limitations placed on the product design by the automated assembly equipment. Automated assembly analysis systems have been developed to assess the assemblability of a product but, many lack an interface to the product CAD database. The lack of a CAD interface requires the user to examine every part in the assembly to determine the characteristics and features that promote efficient assembly. This is a time consuming and tedious process. An automated assembly analysis system is described that will automatically analyze a product design to determine if it can be assembled on a particular assembly system and suggest improvements in the design. Three main stages of the system are identified. The first stage determines if the individual parts of the assembly can be presented to the work station. The second stage determines if the individual parts of the assembly can be grasped and manipulated by the end effectors. The third stage determines if every part in the assembly can be positioned and inserted into the assembly to complete the assembly process. A prototype system was developed that addresses the second stage of the proposed automated assembly analysis system and is described herein. The Robotic Grip Determining (RGD) program examines a B-Rep solid model of a part to determine if it can be grasped by a modeled end effector. If the RGD program determines that the part can be grasped, a list of gripping positions are generated that describe how the end effector can grasp the part. These gripping positions can then be passed to the third stage of the proposed automated assembly-system.

The paper deals with the biology, morphology and anatomy of seven species of syrphid larvae viz. Syrphus luniger Meig., S. balteatus De Greer, S. ribesii Linne, Catabomba pyrastri Linne, Sphaerophoria flavicauda Zett., Sph. scripta Linne, and Platychirus scutatus Meig. The habitat, mode of progression, aphidophagous habits and characteristic coloration are described for each species. It is shown that the larvae of all the above species, like larvae of other cyclorrhaphous Diptera, definitely pass through three stages separated by two moults. The mode of dehiscence of the puparium is described briefly. Each of the species, except Catabomba pyrastri, has three generations in the breeding season which lasts from May to October. Platychirus scutatus hibernates only in the larval stage, but the other species may be found in both the larval and pupal stages during the winter. The larvae of all the above species, except Syrphus balteatus, are commonly parasitized by ichneumonid larvae. The morphology of the egg, the three larval stages and the puparium of S. luniger is described in detail. The characters common to the third stage larvae of all the species dealt with are summarized and short descriptions of the third stage larvae and puparia of the individual species are given. The general appearance of the living larvae and details of the buccopharyngeal armature, spiracles and puparia of each of the species is represented in figures. In connexion with the pupae a number of new structures are described and it is suggested that some of them are concerned with the formation of the characteristic shape of the puparium and with the dehiscence of the puparium.Internal pupal spiracles are present in all the species dealt with, but external pupal spiracles are present only in Platychirus scutatus. The anatomy of P. scutatus is described and figured, an account being given of all the structures except the musculature of the body wall. Study of the anatomy affords evidence as to the carnivorous mode of life of the larvae and also indicates that the larvae have evolved from aquatic forms. The comparative morphology of the Syrphinae is discussed with respect to the relationship of the Syrphinae to other Aschiza and to the cyclorrhaphous Diptera.

In May 1998, the Council, meeting in the composition of Heads of State or Government, unanimously decided, in accordance with Article 121(2) EC, that eleven Member States fulfilled the necessary conditions to move towards the third and final stage of economic and monetary union (EMU) with the adoption of the single currency on 1 January 1999. This article will discuss the legal position of the Member States which did not initially progress to the third stage of EMU, in particular, the opt-outs exercised by the United Kingdom (UK) and Denmark. There follows an analysis of the extent of the UK and Danish opt-outs and the derogation which exists in relation to Sweden (and previously Greece) together with the role of these Member States in the new institutional framework as in operation from 1 January 1999. The current political discussions on the Euro taking place within the UK and Denmark will be highlighted.

The aim of the paper is to analyze the activities of Professor of the Kyiv Theological Academy, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine N. I. Petrov on the organization of collections of the Kyiv Church Archaeological Museum. On the basis of archival materials and publications of contemporaries, the role of a scientist in the promotion of donors is determined. They consisted of written gratitude, publication of information about them in printed publications, reports at meetings of the Church and Archaeological Society, personal meetings with mecenats, consultations with reputable scholars and officials. It was established that during the first stage of the company's activity and the museum, the entire process of the museum's assembly was under Petrov 's control. It was found out that at this stage the scientist acquired the necessary experience in organizing the museum business. The scientist acquired at this stage the necessary experience in organizing the museum business. This is especially evident in his efforts to organize personal collections of Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin), Archbishop Modest (Strelbitsky), writer and traveler A. Muravjov. At the second stage of the existence of a society and a museum, the role of Petrov became even more significant. This is especially evident in his efforts to organize the collections of Bishop Porphyry (Uspensky), Prince of San Domingo (P. Demidov), Mecenat M. Leopardov. Understanding and inclusion in the museum space of these collections significantly influenced the improvement of the museum's exposition scheme and concept. Work on attracting collections has slowed down in the third stage. N. I. Petrov focuses on the improvement of existing collections, their descriptions and conservation.

The article analyses the results of the historical research activities of productive meetings at the enterprises of Soviet industry in the 1920s-30s. Analysis of the historiography has allowed the authors highlighting the trends and stages of work study meetings. In the fi rst phase in the second half of the 1920s, the research focuses on the forms and methods of organisation of workers' self-government and its role in the life of enterprises. Subsequently, in the 1930s, the production meetings are considered as an element of socialist competition. At the third stage, in the 1950s-70s, historians focused on the role of production meetings in the development of political consciousness of workers. In 1980s-90s, interest in the study of this topic is reduced. At the present stage, due to the intensifi cation of the study of history of the working movement, the topic of production meetings has again become topical. The authors identify the tasks of further study of the history of production meetings.

The indication of the weak law enforcement against money politics violations that occurred in the 2019 Election has become an emerging issue, including in Polewali Mandar Regency. The role of supervision and enforcement, as regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections and Bawaslu Regulation Number 31 of 2018 concerning Sentra Penegakan Hukum Terpadu (Gakkumdu) contains a number of provisions governing the mechanisms and procedures for law enforcement against such violations of money politics. The method used in this research is empirical research that examines regulations or statutory regulations in law enforcement practices against suspected violations of money politics at the 2019 Election. The research conclusion shows that, there were 3 (three) cases of alleged violations of money politics in the 2019 Election in Polewali Mandar Regency which should have passed 9 (nine) stages but in reality only reached the third stage, namely, the Election supervisor plenary meeting. It was due to the lack of Understanding on the Sentra Gakkumdu with Bawaslu Polewali Mandar. The obstacles in law enforcement against allegations of money politics crime are closely related to the legal structure, legal substance and legal culture as well as facts and field findings. Therefore, this research recommends that in the future election crimes will no longer be handled by Bawaslu, but be included as general crimes. And if the Sentra Gakkumdu is maintained, it should be given additional authority, namely, detaining suspected money politics actors, so that there is no room to codify witnesses for alleged money politics. This includes the importance of establishing a special election court so that differences in views on suspected cases of money politics can be minimized.
