Characterisation and the use of references to psalms, hymns and hallelujah songs in Marlene van Niekerk’s novel Agaat The qualities of the main characters in Marlene van Niekerk‟s Afrikaans novel “Agaat” (2004) are often emphasised by the use of references to classical, folk and sacred music. As religious songs constitute an integral part of the Afrikaans community, it is fitting to include references to the texts of psalms, hymns and hallelujah hymns in an Afrikaans novel set on a farm. The novel makes extensive use of such references to portray the characters and their context. These references form one of the most important means of characterisation in the novel. The texts are often used by the characters in a harsh and ironic way – and without respect for the religious content – but there are also some touching situations in which the original religious context is retained.

The paper is devoted to the study of semantic and functional features of expressive derivatives, both usual and occasional, in the artistic gist of the novel “Asan” by V. Makanin, as well as their role in structuring the individual-author’s linguistic picture of the world. It has been proven that the derivation of expressive lexemes is the result of improvisation according to established patterns, and that the formation of occasional substantives, adjectives and verbs involved the main methods of the Russian word derivation. It is noted that in the artistic discourse of V. Makanin, in the substantive word-formation, suffixation plays a leading role, which takes place in the sphere of abstractness and includes such lexical-semantic groups as expressive substantives with the meaning of a person, expressive substantives with the meaning of abstracted action or an abstract feature with connotation, as a rule, negative and/or reduced colloquial connotation. While in the sphere of adjectival and verbal word formation, confixation and prefixation, as the formation of expressiveness, is most productive. The paper considers the phenomenon of semantic word formation, describes the formation of semantic derivatives, including in the field of occasional vocabulary. Expressive derivatives in the artistic discourse of V. Makanin are a bright sign of his individual style, an important means of expressing the world view and outlook of the writer.

The technologies of traffic information collection based on GPS equipped floating car have been become one of the main important means for real-time collecting traffic information in intelligent transportation system. So, the electronic map of route network is important to collect traffic information. As present, the link dividing methods can’t take into account the different conditions of traffic flow and the different attributes of the route. This paper presents a novel link dividing method: Firstly, the speed of the floating car history track is regarded as a stochastic and its frequency spectrum is obtained using Fourier transform; Secondly, the optimal sampling intervals of the link dividing are obtained using the frequency spectrum of speed and Shannon sampling theory; Finally, the novel link dividing model is founded based on the optimal sampling intervals and the attributes of the routes. This method not only considers the different conditions of traffic flow, but also distinguishes the different traffic flow of the different places of a link, which can improve application effect of the route traffic conditions and vehicle dynamic navigation.

The paper examines the denotata of personification in the novel "Les vents noirs" ("The Black Winds") by Arnaud de La Grange. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the material under study has resulted in the identification of the main groups of personifications in the emotive prose text: personification of objects, personification of abstract concepts, personification of physical (natural) phenomena. Within each group, subgroups have been identified based on semantic features. The group of physical (natural) phenomena includes denotata of meteorological phenomena, time of day, celestial bodies and the light they radiate. The group of abstract concepts covers a wide variety of denotata related to mental states, mental and physical abilities, moral experiences, military and political terms and the philosophical category of time. It has been figured out that the most frequent examples are personification of objects that include geographical objects, natural objects and related substances, human body parts, and objects related to the war. Those objects and phenomena that play a key role in the development of the novel have been personified. Personification as a part of the lexical system of the novel, serves as the most important means of constructing this emotive prose text.

Prispevek obravnava sakralne skladbe Charleyja Pattona, posnete med letoma 1929 in 1934 na gramofonskih ploščah z 78 o/min. Na njih so dokumentirane Pattonove številne glasbene značilnosti. Moč njegove glasbe je na primer pogosto najočitnejša v njegovih spiritualih in gospelih. Avtor preučuje ločnico med posvetno in sakralno glasbo v Pattonovi glasbeni zapuščini in širše v afroameriški kulturi, pri čemer se osredinja na prehajanja te ločnice in prepletanje glasbenih slogov ter ugotavlja, da se je Patton v glasbenih izvedbah zlahka sprehajal med sakralnim in posvetnim.***The article introduces Charley Patton’s religious songs on 78 rpm gramophone records recorded in the period from 1929 to 1934. Almost all of Patton’s varied musical skills come out on those records. For example, the power of his music is often most evident in his spiritual and gospel work. The author writes about the divide between secular and sacred music in Afro-American culture and particularly in Patton’s legacy. The author was also mainly interested in crossing of that dividing line and in blending of various styles, and he ascertained that in his performances Patton easily crossed the line of separation between sacred and profane.

Inter-literary contacts play a productive role in the global cultural space. The most important means of the internationalization of literature is literary translation. Translation promotes not only acquaintance with the literature of other nations, but also integration and mutual enrichment of spiritual culture. The present research is devoted to the problem of inter-literary synthesis realized through literary translation. The article raises questions of Russian-Persian literary connections, traces the history of translations of M. Lermontovs poetry and prose into Farsi. The study establishes the influence of the works of Russian writers, namely M. Lermontov, on the creativity and worldview of Iranian authors. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the oriental poetry of M. Lermontov. The authors of the present article are interested in the tradition of translations of poetic, prosaic, dramatic works of the Russian writer into the Ossetian language. In the works of Lermontov, Ossetian translators were particularly attracted by the Caucasian motifs. This attraction was manifested in the translators interest in the works of Lermontov with exotic, oriental flavor. Thus, the poems The Fugitive , Mtsyri , Calla , Haji Abrek , the tale Ashik-Kerib , the novel The Hero of Our Time and many others were translated, etc. Different translators have resorted to translate some works of the Russian poet into the Ossetian language more than once. The study analyzes the versions of the Lermontovs fairy tale Ashik-Kerib in the Ossetian language. In the translations by Ts. Ambalov, A. Makkaev, M. Dzasokhov the transmission of national-cultural elements was traced, the basic translational transformations used in reproducing the oriental flavor of the original text are discussed.

The article deals with the uniqueness of the chronotopos in the novel by Max Kidruk “Where God is not present”. The research of leading scholars in various fields of science, such as M. Bakhtin, N. Kopistyanska, A. Temirbolat, O. Chicheryn, O. Ukhtomskyi and others, was dedicated to the problems of the time-spatial organization of the artistic text. The analyzed novel of the famous and popular modern Ukrainian writer has recently been published and has not yet been the subject of literary research. The main events in the work take place on the mountain summit in the array of Gasherbrum - Gasherbrum VI, where “Boeing 777” has crushed. Various time-space planes are harmoniously interwoven in the novel, due to the introduction of retrospections of different plans to the text. This contributes not only to the expansion of time-space coordinates, but also allows to use multidimensional analysis of the psychological portrait of the characters. While investigating the time and space of the novel, we rely on N. Kopistyanska's idea that space is not only a place and a background of action; it is the vector that influences the formation of the character, moral properties of the individual. During the analysis of the chronotopos of the novel “Where God is not present”, attention is focused on the character-building function of one's or another's space, which is one of the important means of psychologization. The psychological space of characters and their relationship with the outside is analyzed. The titles of the sections of the novel “Where God is not present” point to spatial boundaries, where chronological events will take place: “Airport”, “Airplane”, “Mountain”. The chronotopos of each section is expanded by the introduction of retrospectives. The writer uses various forms of time specification, such as: the exact definition of cyclic coordinates (indication of seasons, time of day, hours, minutes) and indication of the years in which events occur. In the novel, various countries, cities (Beijing, the Netherlands, Dubai, Sweden, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Moscow, etc.) are mentioned spontaneously.

Born in Szczecin, Robert Eduard Prutz (1816-1872) enjoyed considerable pop-ularity as a creator of the pre-March period poetry, as a journalist working for HallischeJahrbücher, one of influential publications of that time, and as a literary historian and expert on the history of journalism. Prutz’s life and work coincided with the society’s great dissatisfaction with the ossified absolutist system; literature in the 19th century constituted an important means of communication linking the text, the reader, and the historical context. In the poems and plays completed before the March revolution, the writer aimed at shaping the readers’ awareness, especially in terms of bringing down the feudal system. In this article Prutz’s selected works are used to demonstrate the ways in which he was able to address specific political events and the extent to which a given piece of literature could be treated as political writing. More specifically, several poems and the novel titled Das Engelchen, that refer to specific political events which occurred between the Congress of Vienna and the March Revolution, are analysed.

The article is a review of compositions for a cappella choir, written by Rodion Shchedrin in the 21 century. The works are viewed in chronological order, many of them are inspired by creative reLationships with the Chamber Choir of Moscow Conservatory and with its Leaders-the founder of the collective Boris TevLin and his successor Aleksandr Solovyov. Among the composer's choral works, there are music on verses by Russian poets-Andrei Voznesensky, Vladimir Mayakovsky, VeLimir Khlebnikov, and opuses written on bibLicaL texts-“Count ToLstoy's Epigraph to the NoveL ‘Anna Karenina'”, Mass of Commemoration; the Latters can be attributed to the fieLd of sacred music. A number of works are marked by civic pathos (Diptych, “The Last Two Choirs”). In the 2020 scores, created during the pandemic, in self-isolation, the author reflects on the meaning of being (Triptych). Shchedrin constantLy experiments with genres of choraL music. A striking exampLe of his ingenuity in the current oeuvre is the “Russian FoLk Proverbs”. In the earLier Serenade (2003), the traditionaL genre is interpreted in an innovative way: the text of the work is entireLy based on interjections.

The novel human coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) has caused a pandemic. There are currently several marketed vaccines and many in clinical trials targeting SARS-CoV-2. Another strategy is to repurpose approved drugs to decrease the burden of the COVID-19 (official name for the coronavirus disease) pandemic. as the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved antiviral drugs and anti-inflammatory drugs to arrest the cytokine storm, inducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Another view to solve these unprecedented challenges is to analyze the diverse nanotechnological approaches which are able to improve the COVID-19 pandemic. In this original minireview, as promising candidates we analyze the opportunity to develop biocompatible dendrimers as drugs themselves or as nanocarriers against COVID-19 disease. From the standpoint of COVID-19, we suggest developing dendrimers as shields against COVID-19 infection based on their capacity to be incorporated in several environments outside the patients and as important means to stop transmission of SARS-CoV-2.

The problem of evil and the devil as a representative of evil has long existed in the religion and culture of different nations. This article attempts to find similarities on this issue in the novel “The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakov (1891-1940) and in the approach of some Islamic Sufis, such as Mansur al-Hallaj (858-922) and Ain al-Kuzat Hamadani (1098-1131), etc. What is common in the image of the devil in the pages of the novel of a Russian writer of the twentieth century, a native of the Orthodox environment, and in the texts of medieval Islamic mystics? Common to representatives of these different cultures and eras is the desire to comprehend the problem of the existence of evil in the world and its embodiment in the form of the devil. The similarity is in the fact that the problem of evil and its bearer is posed by Bulgakov and Sufis both in a purely religious context, and in philosophical, Gnostic. In both Islam and Christianity, the devil (“Satan”, “Shaitan”) is the main opponent of the heavenly forces, which is the highest personification of evil and pushes a person on the path of spiritual death. In addition to the religious context, the devil is seen as the result of a Gnostic and mystical approach by different thinkers in the form of an artistic image.
