Effects of several organic fertilizers on growth of greenhouse tomato transplants

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the potential of different organic wastes from the agri-food industry for growing greenhouse tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. 'Vision') transplants. The organic materials were thoroughly mixed with a peat–compost growing medium prior to transplanting. Meal from blood, feathers, meat, crab shells, fish, cottonseed and whey by-products produced the best growth, significantly increasing the shoot dry weight by 57–83 % compared with non-fertilized plants. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the growth and flowering responses of greenhouse-grown French marigold (Tagetes patula L. ‘Janie Deep Orange’) to two non-composted broiler chicken litter-based organic fertilizers, 4-2-2 and 3-3-3, and one commonly used synthetic controlled-release fertilizer, 14-14-14. In both experiments, fertilizer 4-2-2 was applied at four rates of 1%, 2%, 4%, and 6% (by volume); 3-3-3 was applied at four rates of 1.34%, 2.67%, 5.34%, and 8.0% (by volume); and 14-14-14 was applied at rates of 0.99, 1.98, 3.96, and 5.94 kg·m−3. In general, substrate containing different rates and types of fertilizers had a pH within the recommended range of 5.0 to 6.5. Electrical conductivity (EC) was similar among substrates containing different rates of 14-14-14; however, EC increased with increasing fertilizer rate for substrates containing 4-2-2 and 3-3-3. Substrate EC within each treatment was generally higher earlier in the experiment. For the fertilizer rates used in these two experiments, increasing 14-14-14 fertilizer rate increased plant growth and flowering performance. However, low to intermediate rates of 4-2-2 and 3-3-3 in general produced the highest plant growth index, shoot dry weight, number of flowers per plant, total flower dry weight, and root rating. Plants grown at high rates of 4-2-2 and 3-3-3 showed symptoms associated with excessive fertilization. Plant tissue nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) concentrations increased linearly or quadratically with increasing fertilizer rates for all three fertilizers. In general, plants receiving 4-2-2 and 3-3-3 had higher concentrations of N, P, and K than plants receiving 14-14-14. Results from this study indicated that broiler litter-based 4-2-2 and 3-3-3 have the potential to be used as organic fertilizer sources for container production of marigolds in greenhouses. However, growers need to be cautious with the rate applied. Because different crops may respond differently to these natural fertilizers, it is important for growers to test any new fertilizers before incorporating them into their production practices.

ABSTRACTThe growth response of oil palm (Elaeis Guineensis Jacq.) seedling toward the application of organic fertilizer from palm fronds and NPK compound fertilizerThe research was aimed to study the influence between organic fertilizers from palm fronds and NPK compound fertilizer to reduce NPK compound fertilizer in main nursery. The experiment was conducted from January to April 2017 at the Experiment Station Ciparanje, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran. The experimental design used was Randomized Block Design that arranged in factorial patterns with two factors and three replications. The fisrt factor was dosage of organic fertilizers from palm fronds consisted of three levels of 0 g/polybag, 800 g/polybag, and 1600 g/polybag and the second factor was dosage of NPK compound fertilizer consisted of four levels of 0 g/polybag, 20 g/polybag, 40 g/polybag, and 60 g/polybag. The result of the experiment showed that there was interaction effect between organic fertilizers from palm fronds and NPK compound fertilizer on height of seedling and dry weight of the shoot. Percobaan dilaksanakan dari bulan Januari sampai dengan April 2017 di Kebun Percobaan Ciparanje, Fakultas , Universitas Padjadjaran. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok dengan pola faktorial yang diulang sebanyak tiga kali. Faktor pertama meliputi dosis pupuk organik asal pelepah kelapa sawit terdiri dari tiga taraf yaitu 0 g/polybag, 800 g/polybag, dan 1600 g/polybag dan faktor kedua dosis pupuk majemuk NPK yang terdiri empat taraf yaitu 0 g/polybag, 20 g/polybag, 40 g/polybag, dan 60 g/polybag. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh interaksi pupuk organik asal pelepah kelapa sawit dengan pupuk majemuk NPK terhadap tinggi tanaman dan bobot kering tajuk. Perlakuan pupuk organik asal pelepah kelapa sawit 1600 g/bibit dengan pupuk majemuk NPK 20 g/bibit menghasilkan bobot kering tajuk bibit kelapa sawit terbaik.Kata Kunci: Bibit kelapa sawit, Pembibitan utama, Pupuk organik, Pelepah kelapa sawit, NPK

The productivity of forage depends on the availability of nutrients in the soil where it is grown, so fertilization to replace harvested produce is absolutely necessary. This study aims to study the response of gamal and indigofera forage on application of inorganic and organic fertilizers. Research using a completely randomized design factorial pattern of two factors, the first factor is the type of plant (G = Gamal; I = Indigofera) and the second factor is the type of fertilizer (T = without Fertilizer; A = Inorganic fertilizer NPK; K = commercial organic fertilizer; O = conventional organic fertilizer; B = bioorganic fertilizer), repeated 4 times so that it consists of 40 experimental units. The variables observed were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, total dry weight of leaves, ratio of dry weight of leaves/stems and leaf area per pot. The results showed that there was no interaction between plant species and types of fertilizer in influencing the response of gamal and indigofera plants. Plant species have a significant effect on stem diameter, while fertilizer types have a significant effect on plant height, leaf dry weight, total dry weight of leaves and leaf area per pot. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the response of gamal plants is similar to indigofera, all types of fertilizers can improve the response of plants and organic fertilizers produce the same crop response with inorganic fertilizers. Thirteen soil-incorporated herbicides, mainly of the dinitroaniline and carbamate groups, were evaluated in the greenhouse for selective control of hemp broomrape (Orobanche ramosaL.) in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentumMill. ‘Rutgers’). Hemp broomrape readily parasitized tomato roots and competed vigorously with the host. Shoots of the parasite emerged within 6 weeks after inoculation. Herbicides at 0.1 to 10.0 ppmw, with one exception, significantly reduced shoot dry weight of tomato measured at 10 weeks after treatment, in comparison with untreated, noninoculated controls. Generally, the degree of inhibition of establishment of the parasite was correlated with herbicidal injury to tomato. None of the treatments prevented the establishment of the parasite without causing severe crop injury. However,N-n-propyl-N-tetrahydrofurfuryl-4-trifluoromethyl-2,6-dinitroaniline (CGA-14397, ER-9063) at 3.3 and 6.6 ppmw exhibited some degree of selectivity as indicated by relative shoot dry weights of the host and parasite. Activated charcoal applied as a root dip on tomato or in soil admixtures prior to transplanting had no effect on parasitism and growth of hemp broomrape.

Although compost and biochar received high attention as growing media, little information is available on the potential of vineyard by-products for the production and use of composted solid digestate (CSD) and biochar (BC). In the present study, two experiments are reported on CSD and BC mixed with commercial peat (CP) for grapevine planting material production. Four doses (0, 10%, 20%, 40% vol.) of CSD and BC were assessed in the first and second experiment, respectively. CSD mixed at a dose of 10% recorded the highest values of shoot dry weight (SDW) and a fraction of total dry biomass allocated to shoot (FTS), both cropping bench-graft and bare-rooted vine. On the other hand, CSD mixed at a dose of 40% displayed the highest values of SDW and FTS, cropping two-year-old vine. BC used at a dose of 10% improved SDW, root dry weight, total dry weight, FTS, shoot diameter, and height on bare-rooted vine. The present study shows that CSD and BC, coming from the valorization of vineyard by-products, can be used in the production of innovative growing media suitable for nursery grapevine production. Further studies are needed to assess the combined applications of CSD and BC in the same growing media.

The study aims to determine the productivity of pinto beans (Arachis pintoi) which is fertilized with differenttypes of organic fertilizer including its dosage. The study was conducted by using a completely randomized design(CRD) within two patterns of factors. Firstly, organic fertilizers are cow dung (S) and chicken manure (A). Secondly,dosages without fertilizer (D0), 15 tons/ha dosages (D1), 20 tons/ha dosages (D2), dosage of 25 tons/ha (D3); anddosage of 30 tons/ ha (D4) of organic fertilizers. The variables observed were plant height, number of branches,number of leaves, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, total forage dry weight, leaf areat and leaf dry weight ratio withstem dry weight. The results showed no interaction between the type and dosage of fertilizer in which the growthand production of pinto beans (Arachis pintoi) gave the same results by fertilizing with 25-30 tons/ha dosagesof chicken manure. It can be concluded that increasing the productivity of pinto beans (Arachis pintoi) can befertilized with 25-30 tons/ha dosages of chicken manure

ABSTRACT The effects of inorganic (ammonium nitrate and triple superphosphate) and organic (fish bone-meal) fertilizers on the biodegradation rates of Venture condensate within a sand-beach environment were assessed over 333 days. Field results showed that the organic fertilizer stimulated microbial growth and metabolic activity to the greatest extent. However, based on chemical analysis of residual oil concentrations and composition, the application of inorganic fertilizers was the superior bioremediation strategy. This paradox between microbiological and chemical results was attributed to the selective growth of different bacterial populations, the preferential use of components within the organic fertilizer over oil by the indigenous microflora, and the production of toxic metabolic by-products from the degradation of the organic fertilizer.

Abstract A study was conducted to characterize the response of Gaillardia aristata Pursh to salinity (0.8, 2.0 or 4.0 dS/m) and growing media: 100% perlite (Perlite), 100% Sunshine Mix No. 4 (Mix), 1 to 1 (by vol) perlite and Sunshine Mix No. 4 (Perlite Mix), or 1 to 1 Sunshine Mix No. 4 and composted mulch (Mix Mulch). Type of medium did not influence shoot dry weight (DW). However, root to shoot DW ratio was highest for plants grown in Perlite. Shoot DW of plants irrigated with tap water (0.8 dS/m) was higher compared to those irrigated with saline solution at 2.0 or 4.0 dS/m, except for those grown in Mix. Salinity did not alter the root to shoot DW ratio. In general, elevated salinity led to relatively short plants. Plants were taller when grown in Perlite or Mix Mulch with fewer lateral shoots compared to plants grown in Mix and Perlite Mix. Flower bud abortion occurred in plants grown in Mix or Perlite Mix, while this phenomenon was not observed in plants grown in Perlite or Mix Mulch. Overall, plants performed better in Perlite and Mix Mulch than Mix and Perlite Mix.

Hazelnut (HN) has found its way into nontraditional foods due to the recognition of its nutritional and nutraceutical properties. Among nut species, hazelnut plays a major role in human nutrition and health because of its special composition of fat (mainly oleic acid), dietary fibre, vitamins (vitamin E), minerals, phytosterols (mainly β-sitosterol), and antioxidant phenolics. In particular, lipids represent 60% of its dry weight and are mainly represented by triacylglycerols where the main fatty acids are oleic and linoleic acids. Furthermore,HN oil is an exceptional source of specific bioactive compounds as tocopherols, mainly α-tocopherol. Besides a favourable fatty acid profile and high tocopherols content, HNs are also a source of minerals and phytosterols, where potassium and β-sitosterol are the major ones. In addition, the presence of several phenolic antioxidants such as mono- and oligomericflavan 3-ols has been reported. HNs represent a very interesting food, and their nutritional and health value need to be further evidenced in intervention trials. In addition, the use of HN by-products as new functional ingredient represents an important challenge for the sector and the food industry.

Study the Types and Dosage of Organic Fertilizers of Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz). The research  to observe the development of cassava due to the influence  of cassava based on organic fertilizer. This research was conducted from October 2019 to January 2020, in the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Slamet Riyadi University, Surakarta. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 1 treatment, namely type and dose of organic fertilizers and obtained 10 combinations treatments and each was repeated 3 times. From the research data, analysis of variance will be carried out nd then the real difference test will be countinued with the real Honestly Significant Difference test at the 5% level. In this observation observed included 8 parameters: shoot height, longest root length, number of roots, number of leaves,fresh weight of planted roots, dry weight of planted roots, fresh weight of planting buds, and dry weight of planting buds. The results showed that (1) effect of kinds and dosages of organic fertilizer the effect very apparent in the parameters of the number of planted leaves, number of planted roots, longest root length, dry weight of planted roots, fresh weight of planted shoots and dry weight of planted shoots. Significantly affected the shoot height parameters. No significant effect is found on  the parameters of the fresh root weight of the crop. (2) The dosage of 1.9 kg / polybag (MD7) fertilizer application gave the best results on the dry weight of shoots, 378 grams.
