The aim of the paper is to give a critical summary of the traditional and more alternative techniques and activities for pronunciation practice recommended in the literature. In the past few decades the theoretical approaches to teaching pronunciation have changed considerably, from giving a strong focus on the accurate production of individual speech sounds to shifting the focus onto the greater communicative relevance of connected speech and intelligibility. Approaching L2 pronunciation teaching is not an easy task, and it needs to be systematically dealt with. The paper discusses several decisions teachers need to make when choosing activities for pronunciation practice: selecting the type of phonological structure to practice, deciding on the speech mode, determining the structural level of practice, focusing on a particular type of instruction, establishing the degree of control of the structure that is practiced, and choosing which cognitive skill to enhance while practicing. With regard to the various techniques for teaching pronunciation, the analysis shows they have adapted accordingly in line with the different trends. Hence, while traditional activities such as automatic repetition, ear-training and explicit phonetic instruction are still considered effective, additional priority is given to activities for raising phonological awareness, communicative activities and techniques that adopt an interdisciplinary approach.

AbstractResearch on segregation is traditionally associated with studies on residential segregation and the patterns of spatial clustering of minority ethnic groups or residents with immigrant backgrounds. This chapter examines European research on spatial segregation through various social science disciplines, including urban studies, sociology, psychology, spatial and human geography. It presents the range of theoretical approaches employed to explain why people who belong, or are perceived to belong, to dissimilar social categories or to hold different identities become spatially separated from each other, and ways in which this may change. Factors that influence segregation are interrelated. A holistic, interdisciplinary approach to spatial segregation is, therefore, essential to understand such mechanisms and then design policies to counter any negative impacts of segregation. Individual and group experiences are shaped by varied contexts, whether residential, work, leisure, transport and daily encounters. This chapter examines approaches to spatial segregation from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and indicates possible directions for future research.

Setswana proverbs point to the rich oral history of the Batswana people, their cosmology, morality, indigenous knowledge system, rituals, drama, sayings and memo scripts which are deeply embedded in memory. They emerged from reflections on existential experiences and animal behaviour. In her analysis of Proverbs 31:1031 found in the Hebrew text, Masenya rereads this text in conjugation with her Northern Sotho proverbs regarding women from a bosadi [womanhood] approach. It is in this approach that she attempts to engage structures of patriarchy and the marginalisation of womens identities. In so doing, the approach grapples with issues such as the mythological thinking of male dominance, cultural subjugation, gender equality, political marginalisation and economic transaction. The decolonial turn as a theoretical framework acknowledges the particularity and universality of cultures and knowledge. Whilst there is particularity among African cultures, there is also universality. In this article I will refer to Setswana proverbs in the context of marriage to engage the bosadi approach. It is the intention of this article to argue that proverbs such as lebitla la mosadi ke bogadi need to be contextualised within their historical location as well as within the context of the institution of lenyalo that is anchored in the practice of bogadi. Furthermore, there is a need to critically engage with terms such as patriarchy, oppression, structure and hierarchy. The paper will use the decolonial turn as a theoretical framework. A conclusion will be drawn from the discussion above.Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: This article has an interdisciplinary approach, it touches on Historical analysis of Setswana Proverbs, the missionary era and the transition between Setswana traditional worldview and Euro-Christian worldview. Furthermore, it pertains to the understanding of the Proverbs within the custom of Lenyalo (marriage), boarders between anthropological, sociological and African philosophy approaches. The fundamental theoretical approaches used in this article is translational theory and decolonial turn, which is social sciences.

Bernard Eric Jensen: Harald Welzer’s Approach to Memory Research An analysis of the approach to memory research found in the writings of Harald Welzer is presented. At the present time, Welzer is head of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Memory Research at Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut in Essen, Germany. He has contributed both empirical surveys and theoretical analyses to memory research during the last decade. At a first glance, Welzer’s approach appears to belong neatly within the tradition of memory research that was originally founded by the French sociologist Maurice Halbwachs, and which Aleida and Jan Assmann have been seeking to revive and develop since the 1980’s by introducing concepts such as “communicative and cultural memory” as well as “storage memory” (Speicher-Gedächtnis) and “use memory” (Funktions-Gedächtnis). On closer inspection, however, it transpires that Welzer’s approach cannot be characterised as a mere refinement of the approach taken by the Assmanns. This is partly because Welzer is attempting to develop an interdisciplinary approach, focused on the intricate relationships between biological, psychological and social factors in ongoing memory work. Apart from focussing of the work of Welzer, this article also seeks to highlight the state of “terminological anarchy” that characterises memory research at the present time, making it next to impossible to make direct comparisons between different theoretical approaches. This state of anarchy becomes transparent as soon as one begins to scrutinize the meanings of those adjectives, which nowadays are fixed to the term memory – for instance, “communicative”, “cultural”, “historical” and/or “social” memory.

The purpose of the article is to generalize the theoretical foundations and directions of the development of spatial justice. The importance and urgency of the issue is due to the strengthening of spatial inequality of economic development and social inequality in the conditions of market transformation of Ukraine's economy and decentralization of management. The author uses normative and positive approaches to reveal the theoretically desirable and real state of realization of equal opportunities for access to economic resources and public goods. The hermeneutics method is used to clarify the direction of theoretical research and the meaning of produced scientific provisions; the anthropocentric method – to justify the priority of economic interests over fiscal ones and social interests – over economic ones; and a synthesis of historical and logical methods – for a comprehensive presentation of the process of expanding the subject field of the research on spatial justice and the generation of new knowledge. The study has revealed that the theory of spatial justice is interdisciplinary. Theoretical approaches to the interpretation of spatial justice by generalizing the main directions of research within different branches of scientific knowledge, which include social philosophy, economic geography, political economy, and finance theory. The conceptual interrelation and correlation of the categories "social inequality", "social justice", and "spatial justice/injustice" is revealed and the logic of the consideration of spatial justice in land use based on those principal categories is substantiated. Based on the interdisciplinary approach, the limitations of the interpretation of inequality as a function of social hierarchy have been overcome and the role of the territorial dimension in the formation and reproduction of spatial injustice has been revealed.

The paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of tax initiatives on the introduction of an excise tax on carbonated sweet drinks and red meat products, a fee for the use of plastic utensils and a new special tax regime for self-employed. Based on the complexity and diversity of the issues and in order to ensure the reliability of the conclusions and proposals the paper analyzes the problem in various aspects using an interdisciplinary approach: 1) in the context of topical problems of social development; 2) from the point of view of solving systemic problems of taxation in the Russian Federation and improving its legal regulation; 3) for compliance with the principles of taxation and the economic and legal essence of taxes and fees; 4) in the light of ensuring budget profitability and reducing financial costs. When considering the development of effective mechanisms of legalization, the authors proceeded from the need to ensure the unconditional constitutional obligation to pay taxes and fees, the mandatory application of penalties against defaulters, the inadmissibility of replacing the principle of obligation with the principle of voluntariness: the performance of the constitutional duty cannot be made exclusively dependent on civic consciousness and social responsibility, on the availability of various preferences. The authors are convinced that when applying incentive mechanisms, it is necessary to distinguish between non-payers and payers, without allowing the latter to be put in a worse position. The study resultes in the conclusion on the strengthening of legal regulation in terms of ensuring the mandatory tax liability, about the increase of the responsibility of legislators in the implementation of the principles of taxation in order to avoid the adoption of legal norms that contradict them.

The purpose of the review is to characterize general theoretical approaches to the study of diasporas in contemporary science and to present a historiographic analysis of the study of the Armenian diaspora in Russia. The research is based on a complex of historiographic sources: monographs, collective works, scientific articles, theses, that are devoted to the phenomenon of diasporas in the modern world. The authors emphasize the relevance of the study of diasporas in the context of globalization, mass migration, formation of new ethnic communities and polemics around the policy of multiculturalism. At present, the study of diasporas is conducted within the frameworks of history and philosophy, sociology and political science, ethnology and cultural studies, demography and economics, which explains the variety of methodological approaches to the phenomenon of the diaspora. Representatives of different humanities distinguish such defining features of the diaspora as stable ethnic (nostalgic) identity and collective memory, the presence of self-organization and a developed network of intragroup communications, a special style of life behavior and strategies for survival in the host society. These theoretical approaches find application in the study of the Armenian diaspora in Russia, which is a part of the world Armenian diaspora and at the same time has unique socio-cultural characteristics. Currently, the Armenian diaspora in Russia is widely studied both on a national scale and at the regional level, however, most studies cover only the southern regions and the capital of the Russian Federation. The creation of a comprehensive history of the Armenian diaspora in the Middle Volga region is an urgent scientific task. In the final part of the review, the authors outline possible prospects for further study of the Armenian diaspora in Russia and individual regions; this task can be solved using an interdisciplinary approach.

The work highlights the need to use an interdisciplinary approach in the field of economics and industrial environmental management. The paper presents the current theoretical approaches to the economic assessment of damage from environmental pollution. The shortcomings of the existing methodological recommendations are noted, which consist in combining the assessment of economic damage at the micromacroeconomic levels of management, without taking into account the influence of the time factor. The need for sociological research to take into account the environmental, social and economic consequences of environmental pollution is also not considered. In this work, the basic model of economic assessment of land resources polluted by production and consumption waste is offered. The use of this model will allow leveling the shortcomings inherent in the existing methodological recommendations for assessing the economic damage from environmental pollution

The interdisciplinary approach for the design of compression garments was developed by means of establishing new databases about the elongation of knitted materials, the morphology of female bodies, and the relations between both with the pressure under the garment. We used KES-FB1 and a cylinder made of cosmetology silicone to investigate the relationship between the knitted material strain and the pressure produced. To find the factors that are responsible for comfort perception of compression garments, a sensory analysis with female participants was used to establish the pressure range that is permissible for the human body and the effect of its reshaping. The experimental data obtained was used for validating the theoretical approaches about, firstly, the transformation of a solid polygonal avatar of the scanned body to the soft one, secondly, the virtual three-dimensional (3D) creation of a compression garment in a “relaxed non-elongation state” and, thirdly, obtaining virtual two-dimensional (2D) pattern blocks. Science explorations dedicated to 3D-to-2D flattening of pattern blocks of the avatar surface and to the creation of tight-fitted garments were considered as the background of our research. Several compression garments for females with different morphological features, which were designing by means of a new 3D-to-2D method for flattening of pattern blocks and the traditional 2D “Müller and Sohn” manual, were obtained. The mean value of absolute difference between the predicted and measured pressure was improved from 33% to 14%. Thus, the developed approach based on contemporary virtual reality collection of input data allows one to predict the pressure of compression garments with higher accuracy.

Nearly a dozen and a half different humanities, natural and technical sciences have chosen the city as a subject of research and, within their subject areas, have developed theoretical approaches to defining the livesustaining activities of the city. All spheres of the city’s existence are interconnected, at least to some extent, by a complex system of city legal relationships and are combined into a single complex, dynamic, controversial, but rather stable structure. In other words, we can, by means of law, investigate the whole (syncretism) of various scientific approaches to the analysis and description of the system of life of the city and its inhabitants. The author investigates various approaches to the concept of syncretism, including the essence of syncretism in legal context. The concept of syncretism is applied to the city in order to present it as a legal framework linking the knowledge of the city of various humanities into the system of social relations in order to explore the main spheres of the population’s life. The paper investigates some basic provisions of the theories of the city of such humanities as history, sociology, philosophy, psychology, economics, urban studies and political science as a matter of law. The purpose of the study is to form a new, comprehensive legal approach to the understanding of the essence of urban life and urbanization processes within the framework of legal urbanology with due regard to the totality of theoretical and practical knowledge about cities accumulated in some humanities. This study implements an interdisciplinary approach based on the use of sources from different fields of scientific knowledge on the basis of general scientific and private scientific research methods (analysis, synthesis, deduction, hypothetical, statistical, comparative-legal, and prognostic methods). Analysis of legal aspects of the main approaches of some humanities to the study of the city shows their syncretic character and the possibility of forming a generalized legal theory of the city within the framework of legal urbanology as a branch in legal science on the basis of fundamental and applied interdisciplinary studies of the city.

Music education is an important factor of students’ development. The positive effect of music training is evident in all areas, from the intellectual, psychomotor to social and emotional ones, and therefore music classes in the music school should focus both on music making and on experience, understanding and evaluating music, as well as on expressing one’s own ideas, feelings and thoughts. In ear training classes it can be achieved through the area of music listening. Didactical initiatives of the 19th and 20th century contributed to the recognition of the advantages of the auditory approach, while technological innovations allowed the practical application of music listening. Although there are examples that point to fostering the emotional experience in music classes, music listening is still focused on giving assignments of cognitive type and learning about music components. Some exceptions pertain to the application of multimodality in music teaching using both musical and extra-musical areas. The paper is aimed at pointing to the value of the cognitive-emotional music listening and to the possibilities it opens in ear training classes. The cognitive-emotional music listening focuses on experiencing, understanding and appreciation of classical music aimed at shaping students’ worldview and improving their music competences. It can be achieved by the multimodal and interdisciplinary approach to a musical piece. Students learn about the musical-historical context of the emergence of a piece in a given time and circumstances, about the composing approach and the theoretical and harmony features of the work, they develop their musical and critical thinking, make music, and evaluate both music and their own achievements. Repeated listening to a musical piece or excerpts from it, observing and familiarizing with the piece from different perspectives and discussion about the piece and experience after listening make it possible to better understand the piece and its specifics, as well as to discover and improve one’s own self and accept others and the different.
