Borreria vertcillata is a woody perennial shrub with false-button weedy herb belonging to the family (Rubiaceae), used for treating/curing various forms of diseases across the world since ancient times. Qualitative phytochemical screening of Borreria vertcillata pulverized whole plant was carried out using four different solvent extracts (N-hexane, chloroform, ethyl-acetate and methanol). The phytochemicals screeened contained alkaloids, triterpenes, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, saponnins, anthraquinones and steroids. The extracts were then screened for the presence of some phytochemicals such as alkaloids, anthraquinones, saponnins, steroids, terpenes, flavonoids, tannins and glycosides. All the extracts contained alkaloids, triterpenes and glycosides present but flavonoids, saponnins and tannins only present in ethyl acetate and methanol while anthraquinones and steroids were totally absent from the extracts .Of all the extracts Ethyl acetate extracts had the most influential effects on pathogenic organisms such as Culex quinquefasciatus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candidas albican

Medicinal plants extracts are now generally considered as effective medicines that play a major role in modern pharmacy. The plant Fadogia andersonii belonging to the Family Rubiaceae, which is used in ethno-medicine was studied. Preliminary phytochemical analyses of the whole plant revealed the presence of the following metabolites: Saponins, terpenes, steroids, flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, cardiac glycosides and carbohydrates. Anthraquinones was found to be absent. Antimicrobial screening of the methanol plant’s extract carried out (in vitro) on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus cereus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Candida albican and Aspergillus flavus showed that the extract has activity on the tested microorganisms. However, it showed no inhibitory effect against Escherichia coli. The extract was found to inhibit the growth of S. aureus, B. cereus, S. pyogenes and C. albican at 25mg/ml with a corresponding MBC at 50mg/ml. S.typhi and S. pneumonia were inhibited at 50mg/ml with a corresponding MBC at 100mg/ml. It also inhibited the growth of P. aeruginosa, K. pneumonia and A. flavus at 100mg/ml with a corresponding MBC at 200mg/ml. The observed antimicrobial effects were believed to be due to the presence of active principles which were detected in the phytochemical screening. A new anthranol, kenganthranol F, was isolated from the ethyl acetate extracts of the seeds and the whole plant of the Cameroonian plant Psorospermum aurantiacum (Hypericaceae), together with fifteen known compounds viz., ferruginin B, vismin, vismion D, haronginanthrone, kenganthraquinone, kenganthranol B and kenganthranol E isolated from the fruits and 3-geranyloxyemodinanthrone, 2-geranylemodin, bianthrone A1, vismione D, 1,8-dihydroxy- 3-geranyloxy-6-methylanthraquinone, vismione M, vismiaquinone, vismiaquinone C being isolated from the whole plant. The structure of the new isomer of kenganthranol F was determined to be 1,8,10-trihydroxy-3,4-[2,2-dimethyldihydropyrano]-6-methyl-2,5-bis-(3,3-dimethylallyl)-anthrone.

Ascidian is a marine invertebrate that produce bioactive compounds such as antibacterial and antifungal. The purpose of this study was to obtain symbiotic fungi isolates, ethyl acetate extracts from ascidian symbiotic isolates, and to determine the antibacterial and antifungal activities of ethyl acetate extracts of symbiotic isolates using the diffusion method (disc diffusion Kirby and Bauer) against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and against the Candida albicans fungus. The results obtained 1 ascidian species which was cultured to obtain pure isolates, the pure isolates were tested molecularly and the results showed that the isolate was Aspergillus flavus, then the isolates were grown on rice medium and extracted. The results of the fungal extract showed the presence of antibacterial and antifungal activity against Escherichia coli by 10 mm, Staphylococcus aureus by 19 mm and against the Candida albicans by 13.5 mm. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mendapatkan isolat jamur simbion dari ascidian, mendapatkan ekstrak etil asetat dari isolat jamur simbion ascidian, dan menguji aktivitas antibakteri dan antijamur ekstrak etil asetat isolat jamur simbion dengan metode difusi agar (disc diffusion Kirby and Bauer) terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus dan terhadap jamur Candida albicsans. Hasil penelitian didapatkan 1 jenis ascidian yang kemudian dikultur untuk mendapatkan isolat murni, isolat murni diuji secara molekuler dan didapati hasil bahwa isolat tersebut merupakan jamur Aspergillus flavus. Isolat tersebut kemudian ditumbuhkan pada media nasi dan diekstrak. Hasil ekstrak jamur tersebut menunjukkan adanya aktivitas antibakteri dan antijamur terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli sebesar 10 mm, Staphylococcus aureus sebesar 19 mm dan terhadap jamur Candida albicsans 13,5 mm. Kata kunci : Ascidian, Eudistoma sp., Aspergillus flavus, Antibakteri, Antijamur, Simbion.

For thousands of years, truffles have been used as essential foods in different cultures around the world because of their rich nutritional value and their pleasant and characteristic smell. We have studied the effect of truffles (Tirmania Nivea and Tirmania Pinoyi) extracts on the antioxidant stress properties issued from the Moroccan desert. Antioxidant and anti-free radical activities were studied using three analytical methods: trapping capacity of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, phosphomolybdate, and reducing ferric antioxidant capacity; in addition, phenol and flavonoid levels were measured. The results of the FRAP, DPPH and PPM tests of T. Nivea were respectively 4.112±0.217, 0.142±0.006, 2.235±0.110 mg/mL for methanols and 3.424±0.034, 0.137±0.025, 0.858±0.010 mg/mL for ethyl acetate extracts. The results of the tests of T. pinoyi were respectively 3.670±0.572, 0.102±0.004, 0.907±0.014 mg/mL for methanols and 3.404±0.096, 0.080±0.003, 0.693±0.057 mg/mL for ethyl acetate extracts. For this work, we propose a valorization of the Moroccan truffle in the prevention of oxidative stress.

This paper is concerned with composition and antibacterial activities of ethyl acetate extracts from 3 species of Laurencia (Rhodophyta): Laurencia papillosa, Laurencia flexilis and Laurencia cartilaginea collected from the southern coasts of Vietnam. The results showed that ethyl acetate (EtOAc) extracts of these species displayed antibacterial activities against Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. The qualitative investigations revealed the presence of two sesquiterpene secondary metabolites Elatol and Palisadin A in EtOAc extracts from the three above- mentioned Laurencia species.

Durian leaf (Zibethinus folium) is part of the plant that has antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of Zibethinusfoliumfraction against Escherichia coliATCC 25922 in vitro. The research method used is experimental. Leaf samples were extracted using maceration method with 70% ethanol and purified by fractionation methods using aqua distilled, n-hexane, and ethyl acetate. Positive controlisclindamycin gel and negative controlis5% DMSO. Statistical analysis was performed with One-Way Anova. Phytochemical screening results show that macerateZibethinus folium contains flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids. The test results of antibacterial activity aqua distilled fraction and ethyl acetate fraction of macerateZibethinus foliumshows antibacterial activity against Escherichia coliATCC 25922, while the n-hexane fraction of macerateZibethinus foliumshowed no antibacterial activity against Escherichia coliATCC 25922. aqua distilled fraction of 40% showed a response the most well barriers with zone of inhibition 8.33 ± 0.76 mm, meaning that aqua distilled fraction of 40%  including medium category.

Pavonia odorata Willd. belonging to the family Malvaceae is well known for curing a variety of diseases. This study deals with the Pharmacognostical and phytochemical evaluation of whole plant of Pavonia odorata Willd. The plant is widely used as a cooling, diaphoretic, diuretic, and demulcent. It is also prescribed as an astringent and tonic for fever, inflammation and hemorrhage. Pharmacognostical studies include macroscopic, microscopic and physicochemical evaluation of the whole plant. The transverse section of root, stem and leaves were performed. Physicochemical constants showed the values of total ash (4.45%), acid insoluble ash (0.754%), water soluble ash (6%), sulphated ash (6. 5%), nitrated ash (1.65%), hot extraction(10.22%), water soluble extractive (9.2%), ethanol soluble extractive (4.8%), ether soluble extractive (1.2%), loss on drying (25%), swelling index(1) and mucilage content(0.25%) w/w. The preliminary phytochemical screening of the alcoholic extract showed presents of alkaloids, phenolic compounds, steroids, mucilage and flavonoids. The study helps in the development of standard parameters of the plant which help the identification and authentication of the plant. The present study, report the phytochemical analysis and in vitro antimalarial activity of plants Acalypha indica (L.) and Cocculus hirsutus (L.). The A. indica and C. hirsutus plant was collected from Kadaparajupalle at Dornala mandal, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Leaf, stem bark and root crude extracts prepared in Soxhlet apparatus with chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol solvents. The preliminary phytochemical screening of these extracts was conducted by following the standard methods. These extracts were tested for in vitro antimalarial activity against 3D7 and K1 strains of Plasmodium falciparum by standard laboratory protocol. In vitro cytotoxicity of the extracts was also tested by following standard laboratory method. The phytochemical screening has revealed the presence of alkaloids, saponins, terpenoids & steroids, tannins, anthocyanidins, phenolic compounds, coumarins, quinones, resins and glycosides. Amongst all the extracts screened for antimalarial activity, the leaf chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts of A. indica shown IC50 values of 3.34 µg/mL and 3.71 µg/mL respectively against 3D7 strain; the leaf chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts of A. indica shown IC50 values of 1.47 µg/mL and 2.32 µg/mL respectively against K1 strain; the root chloroform and methanol extracts of C. hirsutus shown IC50 values of <0.78 µg/mL and 3.714 µg/mL respectively against 3D7 strain; the root chloroform and methanol extracts of C. hirsutus shown IC50 values of <0.78 µg/mL and 2.10 µg/mL respectively against K1 strain. Thus, the above extracts have shown very active antimalarial activity against 3D7 and K1 strains. And all the extracts were non-toxic showing CC50 values of >20 µg/mL against Vero cell line. The presence of high alkaloids, flavonoids and terpenoids of the plant extracts suggest their antioxidant potential and justifies their therapeutic action which could be used for the drug formulation. The chloroform root extract of C. hirsutus has shown excellent antimalarial activity which can be used for the development of new antimalarial drug policies.

There are the vast varieties of medicinal plants in the world with therapeutic properties. With increasing popularity of herbal medicine as a curative measure, the need for correct identification and standardization of the plant is also increased. Present work was performed to study the pharmacognostic and phytochemical characters of whole plant of Petiveria alliacea. The whole plant of Petiveria alliacea was investigated for its pharmacognostic parameters viz, macroscopic, microscopic, physicochemical attributes, fluorescence analysis and phytochemical screening and the salient diagnostic features were also documented. The preliminary phyochemical screening of methanol and ethanol extracts of P.alliacea whole plant revealed the presence of alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, phenols, tannins, terpenoids, glycosides and xanthoproteins. These studies provided referential information for identification of this crude drug.
