For many years in Poland, anthropogenic objects constructed underground have been very popular with tourists. In the past they fulfilled various functions (historic mines, underground merchant warehouses, military objects, special objects, caverns and grottoes). Many of them were secured and rebuilt in such a way that a new form was created. They make interesting tourist offers and still more objects can be made available to tourists. An example of strongly modified underground anthropogenic objects of very complex geometry and extremely interesting architectural form is the Underground Tourist Route (Polish: Podziemna Trasa Turystyczna – PTT) in Sandomierz. Owing to much effort and financial means, in 1960s many interesting cellars and merchant warehouses were saved from destruction – and – with the application of mining techniques, they were joint into attractive spatial forms. So far, few publications give the full characteristic and parametric data of this object. Today’s possibilities of available measurement and information technologies allow comprehensive inventory of complicated engineering constructions, as well as the 3D visualization, regarding even tiniest elements of small architecture (doors, lattice, lamps, etc.). The article presents the results of the visualization and parameterization based on the data from integrated surveying (levelling, transects, total stations, laser scanning and other direct measurements). Wiele z nich zostało w stopniu istotnym zabezpieczone i przebudowane w taki sposób, by nadać im nową formę. Udostępnione, dziś stanowią ciekawe oferty turystyczne, a ich liczba stanowi dziś zbiór otwarty. Przykładem mocno przetworzonego podziemnego obiektu antropogenicznego o bardzo zróżnicowanej geometrii i niezwykle ciekawej formie architektonicznej jest Podziemna Trasa Turystyczna w Sandomierzu. Dzięki zaangażowaniu wielu środków udało się w latach 60. XX w. ocalić od zniszczenia wiele interesujących piwnic i składów kupieckich i połączyć je z zastosowaniem technik górniczych w atrakcyjne formy przestrzenne. Dotychczas powstało niewiele opracowań, które ukazałyby w pełni ich charakterystykę oraz sparametryzowały obiekt. Możliwości dostępnych dzisiaj technik pomiarowych oraz informatycznych pozwalają na kompleksową inwentaryzację skomplikowanych budowli inżynierskich, a także wizualizację przestrzenną z uwzględnieniem nawet najdrobniejszych elementów małej architektury (drzwi, kraty, lampy itp.). W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki wizualizacji i parametryzacji na podstawie danych zintegrowanych pomiarów geodezyjnych (niwelacji, poligonizacji, tachimetrii elektronicznej, skaningu laserowego i innych pomiarów bezpośrednich).

The University of Iowa Central Electron Microscopy Research Facility(CEMRF) was established in 1981 to support all faculty, staff and students needing this technology. Initially the CEMRF was operated with one TEM, one SEM, three staff members and supported about 30 projects a year. During the past twelve years, the facility has replaced all instrumentation pre-dating 1981, and now includes 2 TEM's, 2 SEM's, 2 EDS systems, cryo-transfer specimen holders for both TEM and SEM, 2 parafin microtomes, 4 ultamicrotomes including cryoultramicrotomy, a Laser Scanning Confocal microscope, a research grade light microscope, an Ion Mill, film and print processing equipment, a rapid cryo-freezer, freeze substitution apparatus, a freeze-fracture/etching system, vacuum evaporators, sputter coaters, a plasma asher, and is currently evaluating scanning probe microscopes for acquisition. The facility presently consists of 10 staff members and supports over 150 projects annually from 44 departments in 5 Colleges and 10 industrial laboratories. One of the unique strengths of the CEMRF is that both Biomedical and Physical scientists use the facility.

Despite the number of sailings canceled in the past few months, as demand has increased, the utilization of ships has become very high, resulting in sudden peaks of activity at the import container terminals. Ship-to-ship operations and yard activity at the container terminals are at their peak and starting to affect land operations on truck arrivals and departures. In response, a Truck Appointment System (TAS) has been developed to mitigate truck congestion that occurs between the gate and the yard of the container terminal. The vehicle booking system is developed and operated in-house at large-scale container terminals, but efficiency is low due to frequent truck schedule changes by the transport companies (forwarders). In this paper, we propose a new form of TAS in which the transport companies and the terminal operator cooperate. Numerical experiments show that the efficiency of the cooperation model is better by comparing the case where the transport company (forwarder) and the terminal operator make their own decision and the case where they cooperate. The cooperation model shows higher efficiency as there are more competing transport companies (forwarders) and more segmented tasks a truck can reserve.

<p>We present the first results of modelling of the short-living cosmogenic isotope <sup>7</sup>Be production, deposition, and transport using the chemistry-climate model SOCOLv<sub>3.0</sub> aimed to study solar-terrestrial interactions and climate changes. We implemented an interactive deposition scheme,  based on gas tracers with and without nudging to the known meteorological fields. Production of <sup>7</sup>Be was modelled using the 3D time-dependent Cosmic Ray induced Atmospheric Cascade (CRAC) model. The simulations were compared with the real concentrations (activity) and depositions measurements of <sup>7</sup>Be in the air and water at Finnish stations. We have successfully reproduced and estimated the variability of the cosmogenic isotope <sup>7</sup>Be produced by the galactic cosmic rays (GCR) on time scales longer than about a month, for the period of 2002–2008. The agreement between the modelled and measured data is very good (within 12%) providing a solid validation for the ability of the SOCOL CCM to reliably model production, transport, and deposition of cosmogenic isotopes, which is needed for precise studies of cosmic-ray variability in the past. </p>

Meshing of domain in CFD is an important step to ensure accuracy of the solution. In the past, hexahedral or tetrahedral mesh systems were commonly used, and both have their merits and demerits. For large and complex geometry, polyhedral is another option but its accuracy is claimed to be lacking. In this paper, the use of polyhedral mesh system by past researchers are reviewed. Evaluation on the application of polyhedral mesh system for the study of the vortex formation with a simple single pump sump model is made. Validation was made through the comparison of the results from hexahedral, tetrahedral and polyhedral mesh sizes and the experimental data from published data. The polyhedral mesh system was found to perform satisfactorily and was able to match the results from the hexahedral mesh system as well as the experimental data.

The article is devoted to a genealogy of the attitude toward viruses in social and political practice in light of the new coronavirus pandemic. The disciplinary society and the society of control have taken on a completely new configuration since the HIV crisis in the 1980s. AIDS and now COVID-19 as phenomena of social crisis have had a great impact on (sexual) relationships and have also caused a significant change in the social and political order. Epidemics and pandemics mobilize political structures and constitute power relations, thus changing the way bodies are controlled, establishing new differentiations and redefining what disease is. The authors trace the development of discourses about syphilis, AIDS and COVID-19 to describe how knowledge about the disease is being generated today; it has origins in myth and would be unthinkable without aesthetic visualization and mass media technologies. Syphilis was an exact fit for the paradigm of the disciplinary society, which stigmatized bodily pleasure and abstracted pathology by activating projection mechanisms as a sign of the Other. However, AIDS already differed significantly from that paradigm because other medical technologies are used to define HIV, and that has affected the epistemology of the disease and epidemic. The article considers HIV/AIDS as a transitional model that forms a bridge between the epidemics of the past (leprosy, plague, smallpox, syphilis) and the COVID-19 pandemic. Above all there is a change in the biopolitical regime so that bodies are no longer controlled and regulated through sexuality. COVID-19 is a new form of sociality which is not based on the exclusion of “pathological” forms of sexuality or on “deviant” or “perverted” bodies, but involves the object-based, microlevel of relations between viruses, the immune system, and the human genome, which are then mapped with distortions and substitutions onto social relationships and practices. The authors use the term “delegated control” in a new context and introduce the original term “omniopticum” to describe the new regime of biopolitics and the “control society” in the post-COVID era.

Abstract The article is a retrospective analysis of the development of airborne laser scanning technology in the country in the past twenty years, i.e. from the beginnings of this technique use in Poland to the present day. The emphasis in the text is placed on development trends and scientific and application problems in the field of technology undertaken by national research centres. The review is based on numerous publications in this field, which have been released over two decades mainly in the “Archive of Photogrammetry, Cartography and Remote Sensing”. Therefore, the article is a presentation of the progress in the area of airborne laser scanning through an attempt to systematize and review national publications in this scope. It also presents the development of the national production potential and the level of the country’s coverage with data and products derived from airborne laser scanning.

While the National Record of the Historic Environment (NRHE) in Scotland contains valuable information on more than 170,000 archaeological monuments, it is clear that this dataset is conditioned by the disposition of past survey and changing parameters of data collection strategies over many decades. This highlights the importance of creating systematic datasets, in which the standards to which they were created are explicit, and against which the reliability of our knowledge of the material remains of the past can be assessed. This paper describes issues of data structure and reliability, then discussing the methodologies under development for expediting the progress of national-scale mapping with specific reference to the Isle of Arran. Preliminary outcomes of a recent archaeological mapping project of the island, which has been used to develop protocols for rapid large area mapping, are outlined. The primary sources for the survey were airborne laser scanning derivatives and orthophotographs, supplemented by field observation, and the project has more than doubled the number of known monuments of Arran. The survey procedures are described, followed by a discussion of the utility of ‘general purpose’ remote sensed datasets, focusing on the assessment of strengths and weaknesses for rapid mapping of large areas.

Laser cleaning study was performed on prepared samples using a nanosecond pulsed ytterbium fiber laser. To prepare samples, AISI 304L stainless steel samples were oxidized and implemented with non-radioactive contaminants in a controlled manner. In order to validate the cleaning process for metallic equipment polluted in nuclear installations, two types of contamination with europium (Eu) and with cobalt (Co) were studied. Eu was used as a simulator-product resulting from uranium fission, while Co — as an activation-product of nickel, which is a composing element of a primary coolant system of a reactor. The oxide layers have suffered laser scanning which was followed by the furnace treatment to obtain thicknesses in the range of 100 nm to 1 μm depending on the oxidation parameters [1] with a mean weight percentage of 1% of Eu and 1 % of Co in the volume of the oxide layer. Glow Discharge Optical Emission (GD-OES) and Mass Spectrometry (GD-MS) analyses have been performed to assess the efficiency of the cleaning treatment and to follow the distribution of residual contamination with a detection limit of 0.1mg/kg of Eu and Co. Decontamination rates up to 95.5 % were obtained. One of the identified reasons for this limitation is that the radionuclides are trapped in surface defects like micro cracks [2, 3]. Therefore, cleaning treatments have been applied on surface defects with controlled geometry and a micrometric aperture obtained by laser engraving and juxtaposition of polished sheets of AISI 304L stainless steel. The goal of this study is surface decontamination without either welding or inducing penetration of contamination into the cracks. GD-MS analysis and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) were performed to analyze the efficiency of the treatment and the diffusion of contaminants in this complex geometry.

Reports on the news about nature or man-made catastrophes are not uncommon. We hear constantly that a human catastrophe has taken place somewhere in the world. In those cases where the infrastructure could possibly be destroyed, it becomes clear that a rescue mission is difficult to achieve. We need special rescue teams, who despite the difficult rescue mission, save lives and reduce suffering.The special organizations involved in catastrophes are called humanitarian organizations. In addition, the specific skills and abilities that these organizations have should be mainly in logistics.In this paper, the author goes into more details about humanitarian logistics and shows its importance in disaster areas. Unfortunately, these humanitarian organizations have many weaknesses and challenges. As a result, these organizations are not well developed, despite their importance. In contrast, the commercial logistics companies, which are well developed, have much strength in management, information technologies, etc.This research defines humanitarian logistics and describes its weaknesses and limitations. Furthermore, it deals with the specifics of humanitarian organizations. The special features of these organizations are their rescue missions, especially in destroyed infrastructure areas. This research demonstrates the various similarities between commercial and humanitarian logistics and points to the potential of knowledge and experience transfer from commercial logistics to humanitarian logistics.This research compares humanitarian logistics with commercial logistics. In doing so, the author tries to gain a deeper insight into the potential of transferring know-how and experience from retail logistics to humanitarian logistics in order to strengthen humanitarian logistics.The research of logistics is a very dynamic world in which humanitarian logistics is becoming increasingly important both in research and in practice. In particular, the demands on logistics in general and on humanitarian logistics, in particular, will increase significantly in the near future because it is estimated that the number and impact of both natural and human disasters is increasing (Kumar et al., 2012).Murphy (2015) analyzed the past data of catastrophes and derived a forecast for the future frequency of disasters and their impact: “Because of the increasing frequency (and severity) of disasters over the past 50 years, humanitarian logistics is likely to be an important topic into the foreseeable future”.

The article provides an analysis of the characteristics of the artistic means of composition used in the architectural form making at the turn of the 21st century, helps to determine their role in the hierarchical structure by the degree of significancefor modern evolutionary processes in architecture. An overall decrease in the influence and effectiveness of the composition means for this period was noted. A significant redistribution of their influence over the basic hierarchical structure was revealed.One of the major problems in the evolution of architecture at the turn of the 21st century is the discrepancy between provisions of the compositional theory of architecture -a traditional means of shaping and findings the of worldwide experimental construction practices. Here, science was facing the new phenomena based on radical changes in the nature of the architectural form and its plasticity, when the clear, unambiguous rules for constructing the form of the basic theory of composition no longer fully carry out their organizing functions. The collision of science with unrecognized processes that appeared in original architectural forms that have no analogue in everything that existed in architecture in the past, created using modern digital technologies, has not yet become the subject of a serious study by modern theory.It should be noted that for almost entire 20th century, architecture relied on the traditional compositional base in the formation of the figurative characteristics of objects (regardless of their stylistic affiliation), considered it universal and did not respond to emerging new trends that had a significant impact on the volume and plastic properties of architectural forms. As the analysis confirms, during this period the foundations ofa new architecture with non-standard form-forming characteristics were laid.Characteristic in the development of architecture at the turn of the century was the desire of individual innovative authors (Kalatrava S., Hadid Z., Libeskind D., Gehri F. O., Maine T., Moss E.O., Koolhaas R. and creative teams: Coop Himelblau, MAD, Snochetta, etc.) create original objects using digital technology, complex geometry and the inclined position of the object or its parts in space. Here, traditional compositional means did not become the basis for the construction of innovative forms. This transformation took place fairly quickly in the late 80-90s of the XX century, which did not allow architectural science to simultaneously comprehend and formulate the corresponding theory, as well as to adjust traditional approaches that can cover the whole variety of emerging ideas and methods of shaping in architecture.In connection with these radical changes in architectural shaping on the cusp of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, a need arose both to rethink the general theory and to clarify the role and place of each means of composition in the hierarchical structure.Among the literary sources that consider the basic principles of the theory of architectural composition, the most important are textbooks and manuals for preparing architects at universities, since they primarily affect the formation of professional thinking. What is the information on the theory of composition in this literature and how much the recommendations contained in them correspond to modern trends and the requirements of architectural shaping?In connection with the task, a number of published in the twentieth -early twenty-first centuries. textbooks and manuals on the theory of composition, intended for the preparation of architects in higher educational institutions of the USSR and countries that formed after its collapse, by such authors: Arauho I., Idak Yu. V., Ikonnikov A. V., Klimenyuk T. M., Krinsky V.F., LamtsovI.V., Lyaskovsky O.I., Malgin V.I., Melodinsky D.L., Mikhailenko V. Є., Stepanov A.V., Tits A.A., Turkus M. A., Chin F. D. K., Shapoval N.G., Yakovlev N.I. et al. [1-14] have been analyzed. These sources present the traditional classical ideas about the construction of forms, highlighting composition as the main means: proportions, rhythm, scale, symmetry, asymmetry, statics, dynamics, contrast, nuance, identity, etc. But if in the XX century their significance was not in, doubt, then in the XXI century -symptoms appeared of a decrease in the influence of the compositional apparatus on the processes of shaping and the role of each of them in the hierarchical structure [21].Considering the importance of composition in the historical and newest period of the development of architecture, we can make sure that despite the fact that in classical architecture all means of composition were necessary for building the form and were applied comprehensively (in modern times only selectively), the order of their significance fixed the priority of proportions and proportionality ( the first group), identified by the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius [16], and did not change throughout the development of European architecture. They are given more attention in treatises and textbooks [1-19]). The rhythm, meter, scale, symmetry, tectonics, statics, contrast, nuance, and identity performed the basic organizing functions (second group). Dynamics, asymmetry, geometric center, center of composition, emphasis, dominant (third group), although they were used in practice, but without special theoretical justification, occupying secondary places and being additional tools (they practically did not receive attention in treatises and textbooks [.. .])
