Hepatic steatosis is a condition that affects the liver by increasing the visceral fat causing hepatic damage. The disease development might be associated with sedentary lifestyle; unhealthy eating habits; as well as use of tobacco, medications, and alcoholic beverages especially in college students due to change in their routine. In this sense, the goal of this study was to evaluate the hepatic profile of such students throughout the TGO, TGP and Gamma GT enzymes and to correlate this information with data obtained by a questionnaire regarding food consumption, alcohol intake, tobacco use and physical activity. In order to do so, an analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in individuals of both genders, male and female, aged between 18 and 30 years old and from different graduation courses in which such students filled out a questionnaire form and underwent venous collection for the laboratory analyzes. Forty-six students from different graduation courses were evaluated. Most of them were female (67.40%), single (93.5%), sedentary (73.91%) and making use of alcoholic beverages (63.04%) at least 3 times a week. From all the subjects analyzed, were 22% of them that presented alterations in the serum dosage of liver enzymes, a fact that is relevant and raises our concern because it refers to such a young community with strong negative indications regarding their own health care.

Abstract Background The consumption of red meat should not surpass 500 g of cooked weight per week. Regular consumption can exceed this recommendation, increasing the risk of chronic diseases. Objective Estimate the prevalence of the regular consumption of red meat according to health behaviors in Brazilian adults (≥18 years). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with data from the 2013 National Health Survey, which is a household inquiry with a representative sample of the population ≥18 years of age. The regular consumption of red meat (beef, pork, goat) was defined as ≥ 5 days/week. Prevalence ratios (PR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated according to health behaviors (healthy and unhealthy eating patterns, smoking, practice of physical activity during leisure and alcohol intake). Results A total of 60,202 adults were interviewed, 52.9% of whom were women and mean age was 42.9 years (95%CI: 42.6-43.2). The prevalence of regular red meat consumption was 36.7% (95%CI: 36.0-37.5) and was higher among those who ingested soft drinks/artificial juice (PR = 1.08) and sweets (PR = 1.05) ≥3 days/week, ingested beans (PR = 1.07) and raw vegetables (PR = 1.03) ≥5 days/week, ingested fatty meat (PR = 1.09), smokers (PR = 1.05), individuals who were inactive during leisure (PR = 1.04) and those who consumed alcohol ≥2 times/week (PR = 1.06). The prevalence was lower among those who ate fruit (PR = 0.99) and chicken (PR = 0.95) ≥5 days/week, those who ate fish (PR = 0.90) at least 1 day/week and those who drank no fat/low fat milk rather than whole milk. Conclusions The regular consumption of red meat was higher among individuals who ingested unhealthy foods more often, those who ingested fatty meat, smokers, those who ingested alcoholic beverages and those who did not practice physical activity. Actions are needed to reduce the frequency of red meat consumption. Key messages Regular consumption of red meat can exceed the recommendation of 500 g of cooked weight per week. The regular consumption of red meat was associated with the more frequent ingestion of unhealthy foods and fatty meat.

National and global reports showed a high prevalence of sodium intake above the recommended threshold. The pandemic situation might have altered people's eating habits into a healthier diet to improve the immunity system. A high-sodium diet, which has previously been reported as a substantial contributor to several degenerative diseases, might be considered unhealthy eating habits. This study aimed to analyze whether the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the eating habits of high sodium foods and drinks in college students. This cross-sectional study used a food frequency and perception questionnaire in December 2019 - August 2020, conducted in direct interviews and online questionnaires. Forty-three college students enrolled in the present study as respondents. The number of respondents with above-average high sodium eating habits decreased during the covid-19 pandemic, although not statistically significant (p 0.05). More than 60 percent of respondents admitted no significant changes in packaged foods and drinks intake, even though 79.1 percent of respondents reported healthier food and drinks intake during the Covid-19 pandemic. College students/adolescent needs to restrict their consumption of high sodium foods and drinks, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic to improve the immune system. It is also important to emphasize on the massive and continuous promotion of healthy eating habits among college students. Keywords: Covid-19, eating habits, sodium, pandemic ABSTRAK Data nasional dan global menunjukkan tingginya prevalensi konsumsi sodium diatas batas rekomendasi asupan. Kondisi pandemi Covid-19 dapat mengubah pola konsumsi masyarakat menjadi lebih sehat untuk meningkatkan sistem imun. Diet tinggi natrium dilaporkan sebagai penyebab penting dalam perkembangan berbagai penyakit degeneratif, sehingga dapat dikategorikan sebagai kebiasaan makan yang tidak sehat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis apakah pandemi Covid-19 telah mengubah kebiasaan makan dan minum tinggi natrium di kalangan mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode cross-sectional dengan kuesioner FFQ dan persepsi makan. Penelitian ini berlangsung pada Desember 2019 – Agustus 2020 yang dilaksanakan secara wawancara langsung dan menggunakan kuesioner online. Responden terdiri dari 43 mahasiswa. Jumlah responden dengan pola konsumsi tinggi natrium menurun selama pandemi Covid-19 meskipun tidak signifikan (p 0.05). Lebih dari 60 persen responden mengakui tidak ada perubahan signifikan terkait konsumsi makanan dan minuman kemasan , meskipun 79.1 persen melaporkan konsumsi makanan dan minuman menjadi lebih sehat selama pandemi. Mahasiswa/remaja perlu mengurangi konsumsi makanan dan minuman tinggi natrium, terutama selama masa pandemi Covid-19 untuk meningkatkan sistem imun. Penting untuk diperhatikan bahwa promosi pola konsumsi makanan sehat di lingkup mahasiswa perlu dilakukan dengan langkah yang masif dan berkelanjutan. Kata kunci: Covid-19, pola makan, natrium, pandemi

Abstract Unlike fast and restaurant food, diet rich in fibre is known to contribute significantly to health. The aim of our study was to assess eating habits such as consumption of fibre-rich, fast, and restaurant food of the general population in Croatia. For this purpose we used a validated survey designed by the Polytechnic Institute Viseu in Portugal, which includes questions about demographics, good eating habits related to the consumption of the main sources of dietary fibre (fruit, vegetables, and whole grains), and unhealthy eating habits related to the consumption of fast food and restaurant meals. Between October 2014 and March 2015 we received answers from 2,536 respondents aged between 18-70 years, of whom 67.4 % were women and 32.6 % were men. Most respondents reported consuming one serving of vegetables and one piece of fruit a day, and whole grains every other day. Women and urban residents reported consuming larger amounts of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains than men (p<0.001). Men, in turn, reported eating out and eating fast food more often than women (p<0.001). Eating out highly correlated with eating fast food, which translates to lower consumption of dietary fibre (p<0.001). Higher education correlated positively with the consumption of fibre-rich food, but it also correlated positively with the consumption of fast and restaurant food (p<0.001). While eating fast food is not the predominant dietary practice in Croatia, over 50 % of respondents have reported eating fast food at least once a week. Our data also indicate that consumption of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains falls below the national and international dietary recommendations.

Background: Assessing nutrition knowledge provides useful information especially if coupled with the self-perception of nutrition knowledge that could lead to bias and personal conviction. The objective of this study was to assess nutrition knowledge (NK) and its relationship with eating habits in a group of adults.Methods: A cross-sectional study with the administration of self-reported questionnaires was conducted on a sample of 591 parents (43 ± 5.82 years old) of primary school pupils recruited from the municipality of Rome (urban) and province (rural). The fieldwork was carried out in May 2017. An indicator to evaluate adherence to Italian dietary guidelines was developed. ANOVA (Welch's ANOVA in case of unequal variances) test and chi-squared test were used fixing the significance level at 5% (p &lt; 0.05).Results: The percentage of correct answers to nutrition knowledge was 46%, with the expert recommendation section having the highest percentage (59%). The majority of the respondents (66%) were confident that they had a high level of nutrition knowledge. In 37% of the sample, nutrition knowledge and self-perception nutrition knowledge levels were found to be associated. A total of 40% of the sample showed eating habits congruent with nutrition knowledge level. In the investigated sample, living in rural areas, being young, and having low school education level were factors associated with low nutrition literacy or/and unhealthy eating habits.Conclusions: This study provided a demonstration that an assessment based on a multidimensional and multilevel approach is helpful to identify knowledge gaps and to profile critical segments to put in place targeted policy interventions.

Background: Despite the public health importance of documenting the burden of physical inactivity and weight gain, there is a paucity of such data in Kuwait during the lockdown for Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, this survey was designed to estimate: the burden of poor eating habits particularly binge eating habits, fluctuations in weight and its predictors among the Kuwaiti public. Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted from 2nd to 12th April 2020 among the general public in Kuwait. All data were collected through a social media platform (WhatsApp groups), through convenience and snowball sampling methods. The survey comprised three sections: a) demographic characteristics of respondents, b) eating habits particularly binge eating, consumption of snacks and beverages c) subjective feelings of anxiety and d) weight before and during the pandemic. All data were analyzed using SPSS (v.25). Results: There was a total of 522 valid respondents, with a mean age of 41.78 (11.75) years. There was a significant increase in weight of respondents during the quarantine (mean difference= -1.13, SD 5.39, t= -4.52, p < 0.001). Those with reporting unhealthy diets were 4.5 times more likely to report an increase in weight. Those reporting having anxiety throughout the day were 2.45 times more likely and those consuming snacks excessively were associated with 3.27 times higher odds of increase in weight than those not consuming it. Conclusions: We recommend that authorities develop a strategic plan to counter harmful effects of this pandemic on health that are originating from sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy eating patterns and psychological issues.

Krueng Barona Jaya Aceh Health Center after being interviewed there are some patients who have unhealthy eating habits such as late eating, like eating spicy food, which can cause dyspepsia. The results of interviews of 10 people there are 8 people who experience dyspepsia. Researchers chose adolescents because many at this age generally have stress levels as well as lifestyle conditions for consuming irritating food and drink. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence the incidence of dyspepsia in adolescents in the working area of Krueng Barona Jaya Aceh Besar District Health Center in 2019. This research is descriptive analytic with cross-sectional study approach. The population in this study were 38 adolescents visiting the Krueng Barona Jaya Health Center in the Juni 2019 period, with a total sample of 38 people. The sample collection technique is accidentall sampling. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate, research was carried out in 17 s/d 24 June 2019. The results showed that there is a relationship between stress (p-value 0.033), regularity of food (p-value 0.004), irritative food and drinks (p-value 0.024) with the occurrence of dyspepsia in adolescents in the working area of Krueng Barona Jaya Aceh Besar Regency Health Center in 2019. It is recommended for adolescents, it is necessary to make a meal schedule and always maintain the availability of food when mealtime arrives or by always bringing snacks, pay attention to regular meal times (right) and types of food adequate and varied, which consists of carbohydrates, protein, and fat at every meal, and avoid the consumption of spicy foods, sour, soft drinks.

ABSTRACT Background: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, Brazilian healthcare professionals could have been experiencing impacts on their routine, behavior and mental health. Objective: To investigate changes in the daily life and sleeping habits of healthcare professionals in Brazil. Methods: We conducted an observational and cross-sectional study from May to July 2020. A Google Forms questionnaire was made available to Brazilian healthcare professionals on the WhatsApp mobile application and through the website of the Brazilian Hospital Services Company. Results: The sample (n=710) was mostly composed of women (80.8%), aged between 30 and 40 years old (46.6%), predominantly physicians (41.8%) and residing mostly in the state of Paraíba (66.9%), Brazil. Approximately two-thirds of the total sample had some sleep-related complaints, 25.8% due to difficulty initiating sleep, 29.6% due to difficulty staying asleep and 32.5% due to early morning waking. From the population studied, 28.7% (n=204) reported the use of insomnia medication, and 60.3% (n=123) of these were self-medicating. Some participants reported a change in diet (n=557; 78.5%), especially related to the increase in carbohydrate intake (n=174; 24.5%), and 27% (n=192) of the individuals reported an increase of the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Of the total, 561 (81.8%) reported a change in the practice of physical activity. Conclusion: In this study, Brazilian healthcare professionals showed aspects of quality of life that were more affected during the COVID-19 pandemic than the prevalence seen in surveys of international studies for the general population.

AbstractBackgroundThe aim of the present cross-sectional study was to evaluate associations between pocket money, Mediterranean diet (MD) adherence and growth among Greek adolescents.MethodsA total of 319 (157 boys and 162 girls) Greek adolescents, aged 10–18 years participated in the study. Pocket money was recorded, MD adherence was assessed with the KIDMED score and growth was evaluated using the World Health Organization (WHO) growth charts.ResultsParticipants receiving pocket money exceeding 6.0€ daily demonstrated increased fast-food consumption and breakfast skipping. Overall, a negative relationship was revealed between pocket money and obesity. However, lower allowance receivers were less likely to be obese, consume fruit per day and more likely to consume breakfast and sweets, compared to average pocket money receivers. Increased MD adherence was associated with a lower risk of overweight and as expected, unhealthy eating habits were observed among obese adolescents.ConclusionsInterrelationships tend to exist between MD adherence, pocket money and growth among adolescents.

To limit the spread of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, a nationwide lockdown started in Italy in March 2020. In this unpredictable situation, a cross-sectional study using an online questionnaire was carried out by the Observatory on Food Surplus, Recovery and Waste of CREA Food and Nutrition Centre. The aim of this work was to evaluate how Italian habits changed during this period, the determinants of changes, and the effect on food waste prevention. In a sample of 2678 respondents, 62% showed low Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (AMD). During lockdown many of participants improved the quality of their diet, increasing their consumption of fruit (24.4%), vegetables (28.5%), legumes (22.1%), nuts (12%), and fish or shellfish (14%). Unfavorable changes were observed with the excessive consumption of sweets or pastries (36.9%) and comfort foods (22.7%), and a lack of physical activity (37.2%). The main novelty of this study was the examination of dietary changes identified by a cluster analysis. Respondents with generally high AMD improved their eating habits, while the habits of the respondents with generally low AMD remained unchanged. In addition, nearly 80% of respondents were sensitive to food waste. The study provides a useful contribution to the debate on nutritional recommendations in case of further lockdown.
