This research determines the trends of academic articles on distance education in the COVID-19 epidemic and provides a roadmap for possible future studies on this topic. In this context, bibliometric and content analysis methods were used. Research data were collected through the Web of Science (WOS) database. As a result of the filtering process on WOS, 767 scientific articles were included in the research. In the data analysis process, the articles were reviewed in terms of the year, country, journal, publication language, citation, co-authorship, co-occurrence, and co-citation. Research results indicate that the articles were published between 2020 and 2021 and generally in English. “Journal of Chemical Education” is the journal with the most publications and the most cited and co-cited journals. The USA draws attention as the country that publishes the most, has the most citations, and cooperates the most. The most cited article was conducted by Chick et al. According to the co-occurrence analysis, it is seen that the terms “COVID-19” and “distance learning” are frequently used by the authors. The findings were discussed within the framework of the literature, and other studies and suggestions were made.

One of the reflections of technology to education is the flipped classroom model. In The Flipped Classroom model, the lecture process on a subject is delivered at home, while the application process that is related to the subject is in the class. The purpose of this study is to examine the trends in recent years via bibliometric results of articles on the use of flipped classrooms in education. For this aim, we investigated a total of 2955 publications on the flipped classroom obtained from the Web of Science database. Then, a bibliometric analysis of the publications was carried out in this study of qualitative research method. The publications have been examined in terms of some bibliometric variables and are presented descriptively. We performed a content analysis using tables and the VOSviewer program. According to the results, the most commonly used keywords in the research are the “flipped classroom learning” and “active learning”, and the publication language is generally English.  The most common types of documents are papers and articles. Valencia Polytechnic University is the most contributing institution in its field of study.  The most active countries in terms of the number of studies are the USA and China.

Abstract Microplastics (MPs) pollution has garnered significant interest as a serious environmental problem. To date, a large amount of research has been published on this topic. We analyzed the related studies to assess the global developments of MPs regarding the evolution, research trends, and hotspots by bibliometric. A total of 2,872 bibliographic records were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, and CiteSpace 5.4 was used for bibliometrics. The results visually displayed the contributing countries, institutions, authors, keywords, and potential research directions in the MPs fields. The scientific developments in this field began in 2004 and have accelerated considerably since 2012. China and the USA are the leading countries in MPs research. The research on MPs is multidisciplinary and involves Ecology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Environmental Science, and Oceanography. Among these, Oceanography was the most connected with MPs and was the most well-developed. Overall, we mapped the development of MPs research and attempted a comprehensive discussion and understanding of scientific advances, as well as the progress made.

The Tephritidae family has many fruit fly species responsible for causing direct and indirect damage to economically important fruit trees worldwide. Biological control has been sought as a method for the management of these insects, mainly because it does not cause adverse damage to the environment. Thus, this review sought information on what is currently being published in the scientific field about the main biological agents that are used to control fruit flies. The information was obtained through surveys between the months of June and August 2020, in bases such as the Web of Science, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis, Springer, and Scielo. The inclusion of the articles followed criteria such as publication language English, Portuguese and Spanish, available in full, from categories A1 to B1, related to the biological agents used in the control of fruit flies and published in the last five years. A total of 2,362 studies were found, of which 105 articles were selected for this review. Regarding the years of publication, only 27% of the studies correspond to references from the years 2019 and 2020, with a greater number of research on parasitoids and developed in the laboratory. The largest concentration of research was in countries like Brazil, Mexico, and Spain.

Oxidative stress is considered one of the possible mechanisms behind chemobrain or the cognitive dysfunction persistent after chemotherapy treatment. Breast cancer patients have reported chemobrain symptoms since the 1990s. In this present bibliometric review, we employed the VOSviewer tool to describe the existing landscape on literature concerning oxidative stress, breast cancer chemotherapies, and chemobrain. As of 2019, 8799 papers were listed in the Web of Science database, with more than 900 papers published each year. As expected, terms relating to oxidative stress, mitochondria, breast cancer, and antioxidants have occurred very often in the literature throughout the years. In recent years, there has been an increase in the occurrence of terms related to nanomedicine. Only within the last decade do the keywords ‘brain’, ‘blood-brain barrier’, and ‘central nervous system’ appear, reflecting an increased interest in chemobrain. China has become the most prolific producer of oxidative stress and chemotherapy related papers in the last decade followed by the USA and India. In conclusion, the subject of oxidative stress as a mechanism behind chemotherapies’ toxicities is an active area of research.

Aim This study charts the growth of the scientific journal literature on headache for 30+ years (1983–2014). Methods Using the Web of Science, articles published in four two-year periods (1983–1984, 1993–1994, 2003–2004, 2013–2014) from journals indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded database were retrieved and analyzed. Results From 1983–1984 to 2013–2014, the scientific literature on headache increased nearly fourfold (3.8) from 468 to 1776 articles; the number of participating countries more than doubled (26 to 67); and the two most prolific countries in each period were the USA and Italy. While several European countries (Italy, Germany, UK and Denmark) were among the top 10 in each period, the notable appearance of Turkey, China and Brazil among the top 10 in 2013–2014 indicates the growing geographic spread of publications on headache research. Meanwhile, the comet-like distribution of journals has not changed: two journals, Headache and Cephalalgia, persist throughout as the nucleus, with the tail increasing more than threefold from 141 journals in 1983–1984 to 462 in 2013–2014. Conclusion Our study follows the recent growth and spread of the scientific literature on headache research and should stimulate further bibliometric investigation in this field.

There has been a remarkable increase in the number of publications on international trade and cryptocurrency in recent years. This paper aims to analyze the literature on international trade and cryptocurrency in the Web of Science database. This study uses the bibliometric method and mapping analysis. The cluster analysis is conducted based on the keyword analysis. These publications are reviewed from different aspects such as type of publication, language, and book title. This study found that 767 articles which are related to cryptocurrency and international trade. Among the countries in which these studies are conducted, China ranks the first, followed by the USA and UK, respectively. Various organizations in different countries support studies on this topic. In conclusion, cryptocurrency technologies draw the attention of academia, and the use of cryptocurrency in international trade will determine the future trade structure. The innovative features of cryptocurrency can develop new business models, which may be the reason for the academic interest in this matter. It will be useful for businesses and governments to follow this potential carefully to benefit from the advantages of innovative business models.

The objective of this study was to identify the characteristics of the top 100 cited studies in main allergy journals. The 100 top-cited studies in allergy journals from the Web of Science were enrolled. The key characteristics included citation, year, authors, country, institution and journal were analyzed. The number of citations of the 100 top-cited studies ranged from 409 to 2313. They were published between 1972 and 2014. Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology published the largest number of top-cited studies (n=74), followed by Allergy (n=13) and Clinical and Experimental Allergy (n=9). The greatest number of studies were USA (n=45), followed by England (n=10), Canada (n=7), and Sweden (n=7). The institution with the largest number of studies was the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in the USA (n=8). The country with the largest number of top institutions was the USA (n=8). The reviews had higher average citation times than articles. Our study can give a historical perspective on the scientific progress of allergy, as well as provide important insights into priorities and trends of allergy and could serve as sources for future studies.

Schinus terebinthifolius (Anacardiaceae) is among the medicinal species native to Brazil, known as mastic-red and mastic-pepper, whose stem bark is used to fight inflammation of various origins, as it has anti-inflammatory and healing properties. The objective of this study is to explore trends in the publications portrayed on the species S. terebinthifolius, analyzing axes such as time, countries, journals, impact factors and citations, the scientometric approach was used to summarize all the studies on S. terebinthifolius in a single article. 475 publications were used with an average number of 20.8 publications per year, encompassing 68 research areas and published in 220 different journals, covering all retractions visible on the Web of Science from 2001 until May 2021. The most productive country was Brazil with 271 articles, followed by the USA with 105 articles. The methods and results of this study can be applied to continually understand the nature of research on the species.

Studies on overtourism have been growing in the last decade. This article aims to understand the characteristics of the international scientific literature that links the theme Smart Cities in the Web of Science and Scopus databases, from 1998 to 2018. The established methodology was a bibliometric survey. The sample was composed of 24 articles selected in WOS and Scopus. The survey results show that the year with the most publications was 2018. The most relevant article is: “Understanding and overcoming the negative impacts of tourism in city destinations: a conceptual model and strategic framework” by A. Postma, & D. Schmuecker, published in the Journal of Tourism Futures in 2017 with 10 citations. Thus, future studies should expand the search for articles on the topics in other bases as well as national and international scientific events.

The aim of this study is to analyze 26 articles that include “motivation” in their titles and “distance education” as a topic in the Web of Science database in SSCI and ESCI indexed educational sciences journals between 2010 and 2020, and thus to determine the current situation and trends of motivation research in distance education. According to some findings, the most articles on motivation in distance education were published in 2018. Achievement was the most examined variable associated with motivation. As a theory, self-determination theory is the most widely used theory. The country with the highest number of articles is the USA, the most used research method is a quantitative method, and the most used data collection tool is a questionnaire. Lastly, some suggestions are offered to shed light on future research.
