The concept of “Body without Organs (BwO)” proposed by Gilles Deleuze (and Félix Guattari) is quite often overlooked both in the “post-Deleuzian” literature and in various systems/media theories. This paper aims to show the changes that might occur when introducing this concept in different discourses. Specifically, in terms of the systems theory, BwO resolves the paradox of “a certain system in the state of uncertainty” as well as opens the way to the neorationality; in the philosophy of life, it makes the zone of indistinguishability between life and death clearly visible; against the background of the identity politics, it becomes the guiding idea of liberation; while in the context of the media theory, it unfolds the mode of existence of the worlds of fantasy. The outcomes of this study may be useful not only for philosophers addressing the issues of systems, organizations, technics, media etc., or for political activists, but also for anyone interested in the philosophical heritage of Gilles Deleuze as well as in the development of his philosophical ideas.

THE RHIZOME AND THE IDEA OF BODY WITHOUT ORGANS IN THE FURY OF THE BODY, BY JOÃO GILBERTO NOLL Abstract: This paper presents a reading of The Fury of the Body, by João Gilberto Noll, based on the concepts of Body without Organs and Rhizome proposed by French philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. It aims to study the characters’ identity construction, establishing an association with these philosophical notions, exploring, especially, the characters’ wandering nature and the language used in the composition of the work. Throughout this critical reading, emphasis will be given on the way Noll’s text challenge us to construct directions through a subjectivity built from escape lines, a concept defined by Deleuze and Guattari. By reading the narrative through these lenses, it is possible to understand how the characters perceive and live their rhizomatic trials. Thus, the intention here is not to attribute closed meanings to the narrative, but to suggest that the Body without Organs and the Rhizome are features that represent the characters’ wandering experiences in The Fury of the Body. Keywords: Contemporary Brazilian Literature. João Gilberto Noll. Identity. Body without Organs. Rhizome.

Over a million cases of infected people, thresholds and dramatic records constantly exceeded, the voices of the State and of the civil society covering each other in search of validation, an alienated and disoriented population – this is the general picture of a Romanian society trying, on one side, to understand a global phenomenon and, on the other side, to adapt to situations, norms and regulations that has not been encountered for generations. In an effervescent social, economic and political context, the Coronavirus pandemic tests the whole society and forces the State to react, both through concrete measures (rules, restrictions) and through education and awareness campaigns. The official messages transmitted by the State, through the media and in the form of commercials, advertisements, are subject to an evolution in visual and verbal aspect, which can be questioned both in terms of philosophical theories such as utilitarianism or social contract, and from the semiotic perspective of the meanings carried by these messages. How is the "common good" found in the education and awareness campaigns for wearing protective masks and for frequent sanitation and disinfection? And if Rousseau's "common good" is not fully visible in the mask that "can save your life," is the general goal of the government campaign one of a utilitarian nature? To what extent does the promise of the presence of pleasure and the absence of pain appear, as described by John Stuart Mill, in a campaign built on "saving lives" and "protecting others"? This research advances the proposition of a perception analysis of the meanings conveyed in the television commercials from the official awareness and education campaign regarding the Coronavirus pandemic, between March 2020 and January 2021, decanted in terms of basic semiotic and philosophical concepts and theories.

In an interview with Antonio Negri, philosopher Gilles Deleuze memorably states that he and his co-author of many books, Félix Guattari, remained Marxists throughout because of the emphasis Marxism places on capitalist dynamics, an aspect they deem essential to any political philosophy. We see in their individual and collaborative work, then, continued analyses of capitalism, as well as an exploration of mechanisms that can be implemented to prevent the formation of what they term the ‘State apparatus’ – or hierarchical sociopolitical structures. However, Deleuze and Guattari’s insistence on these aspects, as well as the decentralisation of power and the production of the new, have led many anarchists to recognise an anarchist, rather than Marxist, ‘sensibility’ in their work. There has also, since the publication of ...

The article introduces readers to Oswald Wiener's writings on dandyism from the late 1970s and early 1980s and relates them to Wiener's previous work with the Vienna Group and his seminal text “the bio-adapter.” At the core of Wiener's aesthetic, according to the author, is a problematization of human behavior as it was conceptualized and operationalized by behaviorism and cybernetics. Drawing on systems theory and on the work of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari the article argues that what is at stake in Wiener's texts is not so much a hypothetical difference between human and machine as the question of how different components, such as humans and computers, are assembled into a machine through recursive communication.

Intensidade. Subjetivação. Contemporaneidade. ABSTRACT This article intends to raise some theoretical subsidies to ground a conception of an intensive body, that is, an approach of the bodily universe as a metaphenomenon, favoring authors who built their thoughts from the primacy of intensity over representation and from the greater relevance of difference over identities. This dimension of corporeity appears in works such as those of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, with the concept of body without organs, and in the thought of José Gil through the notion of paradoxical body. It also intends to build brief articulations between these conceptions and some of the ideas proposed by Didier Anzieu and Daniel Stern in the field of psychoanalysis.KEYWORDS: Body. Intensity. This text aims to present the thoughts of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in the context of the relationship between the state, capitalism, and machines. Due to the multiplicity and rhizomatics that characterize the works of both French philosophers, the author also outlines the basic concepts important from the point of view of the discussed problem, such as abstract machines, devices, segmentation, deterritorialization, coding, axiomatics, rhizoma, micropolitics, and macropolitics. The perspective proposed in the works of Deleuze and Guattari escapes the well-known patterns of analysis in social sciences, which makes them an interesting look at the relationship between the state and capitalism.

Introduction: the article focuses on how everyday practices are used by the state to project the image of a Russian patriot. State-owned and state-related media discourse models are traditionally studied from the top down. We will analyze how the state and the media manage the display of daily nationalism, which has usually been seen in a bottom-up approach. Thus, the combination of both approaches − banal and everyday nationalisms − will highlight the state’s interest in encouraging Russians to use their version of patriotism in everyday life. For this, a qualitative study of the video reports of the “Vesti Nedeli” program on “Russia 1” TV channel was carried out. The period between 2011−2012 has been chosen for content analysis which is known as a “protest year” and the zenith of the new identity policy of the modern Russian state. Objectives: to describe how everyday practices are used by the state to project the image of a real Russian patriot. Methods: M. Billig’s theory of banal nationalism, discourse analysis, content analysis. Results: the key practices of projecting the image of a real Russian patriot have been identified. This is the asceticism of a Russian person and the ability to live in the most modest conditions. This paradoxically combines with the unprecedented generosity of the Russian people and, provided the resources are available, the ability to live on a grand scale, without knowing the measure. The ability tocombinethesetwopolarities, asasignoftrueRussianness, isillustratedbystoriesabout current and historical characters. The third routine practice, reproduced from story to story on “Russia 1” TV channel, is paternalism, which is expressed both in caring for children, women and the elderly, and in the patronage of the state. The readiness to sacrifice is the central theme of the “Vesti Nedeli” program on the “Russia 1” TV channel. Conclusions: preventive mobilization through daily practices as the goal of identity politics implemented through “Russia 1” TV channel can easily be traced in the “Vesti Nedeli” stories using the framework of “banal nationalism” theory tools. A sacrifice, not only a great one as in war, but also small − in limiting consumerism, in the readiness to work and serve in hard conditions , to defend the honor of the country in sports competitions − all of these, with the involvement of national anger, can is easily transform from daily practice into action.

The article analyzes how the flows of power that derive from war determine the relationship between capital and money, which is capital’s most important institution. As soon as the dollar was no longer convertible into gold, money became detached from its economic and commercial foundations and from its essential role in labor. Marx suggested two different views of money - one in Das Kapital and another in the Grundrisse. The paper elaborates the latter to argue that money assumes a directly political function.Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze provide the concepts of money on which the paper relies. Foucault finds the origin of money in debt, war and the state; Deleuze and Félix Guattari maintain that money is debt that derives from a new political relationship between debtor and creditor. Money as debt is functional only due to a flux of power and a flux of war. Money is the continuation of civil war by other, more political means; and it inscribes “the truth” into the play of power. Money as credit is a sign of power because it represents the possibility of choice, decision and command, that is to say the power of destruction or creation. Money as a means of payment, on the other hand, is a sign of powerlessness. Following Deleuze, the paper affirms that the economic functions of money (indication of value, store of value, unit of account, medium of exchange) depend on the dynamics of some other power. If money is not supported by a flow of power that is in essence a flow of war, it collapses, and the economic functions of indicating value and being the medium of exchange collapse with it.

Palavras-chave: Produção de Subjetividades; Gênero; Feminismo.ABSTRACTThe goal of this paper is to capture my reflections about feminism since the modes how we are daily produced by the media, movies, soap operas and other cultural artifacts that surround us. Being the subjectivity something that belongs to the individual, constituted by beliefs and values dependent on the experiences and life stories that shape us, I resorted to the literature of the works produced by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in order to scrutinize this concept to understand how we are subjectivated by values that constitute us and, sometimes, repress and oppress us. Another concept that I considered necessary for this paper is gender. For the comprehension of gender, I utilized readings of Joan W. Scott and Tereza Lauretis. For analysis I chose the movie “Mona Lisa Smile” (O Sorriso de Monalisa, in Portuguese), because it portrays various modes and types of being a women, and in this movie it is possible to realize the multiplicity of feminine subjectivities. I opt to discuss three ways of being a women pictured by the film and the processes of subjetification that compose them. This movie represents the 1950’s and make us think about the feminist struggles carried out in this time and their effects nowadays. Palavras-chaveCartografia, Vídeo-mapa, Experimento, Ensino.GEOGRAPHICAL EXPERIMENTS FOR EDUCATION: cartography of a video-map with bordersAbstractThis work proposes to investigate the use of audiovisual language in videos produced by students of the state education public on the city of Ponta Porã (MS), as a video-map, as a cartographic intensifying focused on the teaching of Geography. We agreed of representations that they have on the border, or boundaries (frontiers), since they reside in an international boundary location between Brazil and Paraguay, which reinforces perceptions, thoughts, and experiences on the concept of frontiers. The experiment produced fifteen videos, resulting in a final video: Geographical investigation for teaching: a video-map with boundaries. The investigations are oriented in presenting the video-map as a cartographic power aimed at teaching, identifying the conceptions, understandings and representations that the students filmed about the frontier (s), and their erasures and/or fissures presented in the images and their speeches. Sometimes reproducing an official perception of the state, or demonstrating the conceptual confusion of experiencing the inter-place of the daily life of the locality. We seek among the images and speeches associations between concepts proposed by authors such as Doreen Massey, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, among others, who refer us to treating the experiment as a language that dialogues with geographic discourse, geography teaching and student territorialities in places that experience life.KeywordsCartography, Video-map, Experiment, Teaching.ISSN: 2236-3904REVISTA BRASILEIRA DE EDUCAÇÃO EM GEOGRAFIA - RBEGwww.revistaedugeo.com.br - [email protected]
