The main purpose of this study was to probe whether or not there is a statistically significant difference between the prospective teachers' perceptions of professional identity and current teachers' self-perceptions. To meet the end, the researchers applied the Teachers' Professional Identity Questionnaire, by Hasegawa and Kudomi, which contains 48 items on a four-point Likert system. This questionnaire was distributed among 440 Iranian professionals who had majored in one of the majors related to English language. After collecting the data, the researchers tapped them into SPSS software and analyzed them statistically. A Mann-Whitney test on the scores of the two groups of participants highlighted a statistically significant difference. Hence, data analysis indicated that there is a statistically significant difference between the prospective teachers' perceptions of professional identity and the current teacher's self-perceptions.

Decision refers to the act of choosing the most appropriate type of action possible according to present possibilities and conditions in order to achieve an aim. Decision making covers all cognitive and behavioral effort for choosing and preferring in the face of various situations and events. Starting from this point of view, in our study, it was aimed to investigate prospective kickboxing students’ self-esteem in decision making and decision making styles. The study included 62 voluntary prospective coaches, who participated in a kickboxing coaching in the city center of Elazığ in 2017. In order to obtain personal information from the participant prospective coaches in the study, a personal information form (age, gender, years of doing sports) was formed. In order to investigate the self-esteem in decision making and decision making styles of prospective kickboxing coaches, the Melbourne Decision Making Questionnaire, which was originally developed by Mann et al., (1998) and adapted into Turkish by Deniz (2004), was utilized. The obtained data were evaluated by using SPSS statistics package software and the level of significance was regarded as p<0.05.As a result of the study, according to participants’ variables of age, gender and years of doing sports, the comparison of prospective teachers’ decision making and decision making style mean scores did not constitute a statistically significant difference. The self-esteem levels of coaches in decision making were observed to be significantly high.

The research examines self-handicapping levels of prospective teachers according to sports activity variables. The concept of self-handicapping, which is also referred as self-sabotage in the literature, is a mechanism developed by individuals to protect their selves when they cannot achieve a job or when they experience a sense of insufficiency. It is a fact that doing sports has benefits on individuals’ mental, physical, emotional, social and psychological health. This research, which presumes the possible relationship between self-handicapping levels of prospect teachers and doing sports, is conducted with relational screening model. The study group consisted of 584 prospective teachers, 359 female and 225 male, studying at Ataturk University Kazim Karabekir Faculty of Education, Erzurum, Turkey, in the academic year of 2018-2019. The data were collected with the “Self-handicapping Scale” and the personal information form prepared by the researcher. The scale was developed by Jones and Rhodewalt (1982) and its Turkish validation and reliability made by Akın (2012). SPSS 21 package program was used to analyze the data. In the analysis of the data, frequency distribution was used to determine the demographic characteristics, the Independent Samples T test was used to examine differentiation status between two independent variables and self-handicapping, and the One Way Anova analysis tests were conducted to examine differentiation status between more than two variables and self-handicapping. All these tests were analyzed in SPSS 21 package program and the significance was evaluated at p<0,05 level.Findings of the study showed that there was a significant difference between self-handicapping levels of the prospective teachers and gender, family structure, monthly income level, class level and sports activity status. It was concluded that the prospective teachers who were doing sports activities had low self-handicapping levels.Based on the conclusion that sports activities have a positive effect on self-handicapping levels of prospective teachers, and in order to minimize their self-handicapping levels both in education and social life, the study encourages prospective teachers to engage in different branches of sports according to their interest and talents and offers university administrators to provide sports facilities that the students can use.

The present study examined the relationship between high risk drinking and college students' self-perceptions. High risk drinking was defined as the consumption of four or more drinks in a row for women and five or more drinks in a row for men during a single sitting (within the last year). Historical trends regarding college-age drinking indicate that 44% of college students fit the criteria for high risk drinking at least once over the past year. A survey was administered to 210 college students (52 men and 158 women) between 18 and 22 years of age ( M = 20.9, SD = 1.3) to assess their use of alcohol and their self-perceptions. Students' self-perceptions were measured with four subscales from the Neemann-Harter Self-perception Profile for College Students. Students either volunteered to participate in this study outside of class or were solicited during class. It was predicted that students' self-perceptions would differ significantly depending upon their alcohol consumption, i.e., 17.1% were Abstainers, 25.2% were Nonproblem Drinkers, and 57.6% were High Risk Drinkers. Analysis gave significant difference on Global Self-worth between students who abstained and those who were High Risk Drinkers. However, students' perceptions of Scholastic Competence, Intellectual Ability, and Social Acceptance did not differ significantly for the alcohol consumption groups. In addition to high risk drinking, a number of other variables were associated with self-perceptions, such as high school alcohol use, low high school GPA, and students' reported academic involvement. These relations are discussed.

This study aimed to examine the self-esteem of those who did sports in physically disabled individuals by some variables. Based on this aim, the study was designed quantitatively. In this descriptive research, the general survey model that is coherent with the main purpose was used. The study group of the research consisted of 140 individuals aged 18 and over who had physical disabilities and actively engage in sports. Purposeful sampling approaches and easily accessible sampling methods were used in the selection of the study group. The scale form was used to collect research data. The scale form consisted of two parts. In the first part of this form, there was a personal information form containing information about the participants and in the second part, there was the "Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale" developed by Rosenberg (1965) and adapted into Turkish by Çuhadaroğlu (1986). This form was applied to the participants on a voluntary basis, on the internet between 13.05.2020 and 03.06.2020. Necessary explanations were made to the participants while filling the form and they were provided to answer correctly. In this study, the self-esteem of physically disabled athletes was examined according to some variables. The research group consisted of 140 participants; 42 (30.0%) of them were female and 98 (70.0%) of them were male and the number of male participants was approximate twice the number of female participants. It was found that 18 (12.9%) participants were graduated from elementary and secondary schools, 59 (42.1%) from high school, and 63 (45%) from college, and the number of the participants belonging to the group consisted of graduates from high school and college were approximately four times more than the participants from the elementary and secondary school graduate group. It was determined that 9 (13.6%) of the participants had low, 105 (75%) had medium and 16 (11.4%) had a high level of income. It was observed that 83 (59.3%) of the participants were congenitally disabled and 57 (40.7%) of the participants disabled after birth and the number of congenitally disabled participants approximately 1.5 times more than the number of participants with disabilities after birth. It was determined that the number of participants who were national athletes was approximately 2.5 times those who were not. Among the variables examined, it was seen that there was only a statistically positive and low-level significant relationship between the sports age variable and the self-esteem mean score of the participants (r = .147; p < 0.05). In this context, as the age of the participants increased, the self-esteem of the participants also increased. As a result, it was determined that there was a positive correlation between the age of starting sports and self-esteem in physically disabled individuals, and individuals who started sports at an early age had a higher rate than other individuals.

Presentation skills are considered as one of the most important proficiencies needed for higher education and future careers for teachers. The present study identifies the challenges faced by prospective teachers during classroom oral presentations while studying at a teacher training institute, Institute of Education and Research, (IER). The participants of the study were 400 prospective teachers enrolled in different programs of teacher education at IER. Independent variables were measured, number of semesters already completed at the institute, gender and GPA in the completed semesters. A questionnaire was developed comprising three main sections: personal traits, oral presentation skills and peers and teachers. The statements were developed on a five-point Likert Scale to know the opinion of prospective teachers regarding challenges involved in oral presentations. In addition, a semi-structured interview was conducted from thirty prospective teachers to probe results obtained from quantitative analysis and investigate reasons behind emerging challenges. The findings revealed that prospective teachers experienced medium level of difficulties in oral presentations with mild tendency towards high rank.  There was no significant difference found in the results regarding the number of semester students already completed, GPA and gender in general, whereas, statistically significant difference was found on factor peer and teachers with respect to variable gender only. Analysis of qualitative data revealed tangible reasons behind the challenges of oral presentations such as second language, personal traits and use of technology. There is a need to encourage sharing of ideas, discussions and presentations in the classrooms right from the early years of school through higher education in order to enable learners to become confident, vocal and effective teachers.

It was aimed in this study to reveal and compare strategies of students of three types of high schools to cope with stress through leisure time. The research population consisted of high school students in Konya province, Turkey. The sample consisted of 280 male and 224 female vocational high school, Anatolian  high school and sports high school students. In the study, the Demographic Personal Information Form was used to collect personal information. The “Strategies to Cope with Stress through Leisure Time Scale” (SCSLTS) was used to identify the leisure time strategies. This scale was developed by Iwasaki and Mannell (2000). It was translated into Turkish, and its validity and reliability studies were conducted by Çevik, Özcan and Munusturlar (2018). No difference was found in the strategies of the students to cope with stress through leisure time according to the grade level, income, and maternal and paternal educational level factors. Statistical variations were observed based on the gender and sporting factors (p<.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the mood enhancement dimension depending on the school type factor. However, it was found that the mean scores of the vocational high school students in terms of the dimensions of leisure time friendship and temporary coping ability were higher than those of the students of the other schools, and these differences were also statistically significant (p<.05). The vocational high school students had higher mean scores in the leisure time strategies sub-dimension than the students of other schools. Accordingly, it can be said that the leisure time strategy scores may differ according to the school type and that the students receiving vocational education were more optimistic in determining leisure time strategies than the students of Anatolian high school and sports high school.

The quality of teachers and teaching depends on prospective teacher education programs which have been enthusiastic to gain competencies among teachers. Therefore, to attain essential teacher competencies during teacher training programs has great meaning to prepare prospective teachers for the teaching profession. This research focused to explore the pre-service teachers perceptions about practices of competencies they learned during the teacher education program. Through survey research data was collected from B.Ed. Hons student through an instrument. A convenient sampling technique was employed. The result of data shows no significant difference in competencies practices on basis of gender and sector, the only significant difference was seen in in-service teacher competencies, where in-service show high mean score in particular competencies practices as compared to the pre-service teacher. Researchers should focus on these variables and plan their orientations according to the perceived lack of prospective teachers.
