Vicarchika is a type of Kushta Roga (skin disease). It can be correlated with eczema. Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa are some of the bacteria which cause skin diseases. Siddhartaka Snana is a herbal bath that is described in Charaka Samhita as a treatment for Kushta Roga. Siddhartaka Snana is a herbal preparation which consists ten herbs namely; Cyperus rotundus, Catunaregum spinosa, Phyllanthus emblica, Terminalia chebula, Terminalia bellarica, Cassia fistula, Pongamia pinnata, Holarrhena antidysentrica, Alastonia scholaris and Coscinum fenestratum. Antibacterial effect of Siddhartaka Snana against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa that are responsible for skin diseases was studied using disc diffusion method and well diffusion methods. In disc diffusion method, no inhibition zone was observed with any of the tested bacteria. However, an inhibition zone of 9.67mm was observed against Staphylococcus aureus in well diffusion method with Siddhartaka Snana. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of Siddhartaka Snana against Staphylococcus aureus was 0.9225 mg/1ml. Ingredients of Siddhartaka Snana contain tannins, phenols and flavonoids, all of which possess antibacterial properties. Antibacterial effect of Siddhartaka Snana may have been exhibited due to actions of these phytochemicals. It was concluded that Siddhartaka Snana has an antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus.

ABSTRACTOne of the natural ingredients that are often used as a medicinal plants is Pangi (Pangium edule Reinw. Ex Blume) plant. The part of pangi that are often used are leaves, which is known have antibacterial activity. North Sulawesi people empirically use this plant as food and to cure various diseases such as treating itching on the skin caused by bacteria found on the skin. The aim of this research was to determine and study the strength of antibacterial inhibition based on the category of inhibition by Davis and Stout of ethanol extract from pangi (Pangium edule Reinw. ex Blume) leaf performed by disc diffusion Kirby and Bauer method againts Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonos aeruginosa bacterias. The result showed that the ethanol extract from pangi (Pangium edule Reinw. Masyarakat Sulawesi Utara secara empiris menggunakan tumbuhan ini sebagai bahan makanan serta untuk menyembuhkan berbagai penyakit seperti mengobati penyakit gatal-gatal pada kulit yang disebabkan oleh bakteri yang terdapat pada kulit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kekuatan daya hambat antibakteri berdasarkan kategori penggolongan daya hambat oleh Davis dan Stout dari ekstrak etanol daun Pangium edule Reinw. ex. Blume dengan metode difusi agar (difusi disk Kirby dan Bauer) terhadap bakteri uji Staphyloccocus aureus, Escherichia coli dan Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Hasil penelitian didapati bahwa ekstrak etanol daun Pangium edule Reinw ex. Antibacterial Activity of Infused Aloe Vera Leaf (Aloe Vera L) on Growth Of Stapylococcus aureus and Escherichia coliDisinfectants may act as antibacterials. Aloe vera (Aloe vera L) is one of the plants that is often used by the community as a medicinal plant that has many active compounds such as lignin, saponin and anthraquinone substances that act as antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of Aloe vera leaf extracted with infusa method on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The research method is to see the reduction / reduction of bacterial count (% reduction) after 30 second and 60 second with disc diffusion method. The results showed decrease or decrease of bacteria count (% reduction) to Escherichia coli bacteria found in aloe leaf skin infected by 28,2% after 60 seconds. While decrease or decrease of bacteria amount (% reduction) to Staphyloccocus uareus bacteria infusa mixture of meat and skin of Aloe vera leaves of 27.5% after 60 seconds. Antibacterial test of aloe vera leaf aloe (Aloe veraL) of 100% concentration by disc diffusion method did not show any inhibition zone around cultures of test bacteria.Keywords: Aloe vera, antibacterial activity, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli, Infusa.ABSTRAKDesinfektan dapat berfungsi sebagai antibakteri. Lidah buaya (Aloe vera L) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang sering digunakan masyarakat sebagai tanaman obat yang memiliki banyak senyawa aktif seperti lignin, saponin dan antrakuinon yaitu zat yang berfungsi sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri daun lidah buaya (Aloe vera L) yang diekstrak dengan metode infusa terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Metode penelitian yaitu dengan melihat penurunan/pengurangan jumlah bakteri (% reduksi) setelah waktu 30 detik dan 60 detik dengan metode difusi cakram. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penurunan atau pengurangan jumlah bakteri (% reduksi) terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli terdapat pada infusa kulit daun lidah buaya yaitu sebesar 28,2 % setelah waktu 60 detik.Sedangkan penurunan atau pengurangan jumlah bakteri (% reduksi) terhadap bakteri Staphyloccocus uareus terdapat pada infusa campuran daging dan kulit daun lidah buaya yaitu sebesar 27,5 % setelah waktu 60 detik. Uji antibakteri infusa daun lidah buaya (Aloe veraL) konsentrasi 100% dengan metode difusi cakram tidak menunjukkan adanya zona penghambatan disekitar biakan bakteri uji.Kata kunci : Lidah buaya, Aktivitas antibakteri, Staphylococcus aureus, dan   Escherichia coli,   Infusa.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of the juice obtained by squeezing fresh ginger roots (Zingiber officinale) against the standard strains Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC® 25923) and Escherichia coli (ATCC® 25922), as well as Acinetobacter baumannii and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from patients hospitalized in intensive care units. Methods: For this purpose, the antibacterial effect of the fresh ginger juice was tested against antibiotics such as ampicillin, cefazolin, cefuroxime, meropenem, colistin, ofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, tetracycline, and gentamicin. The antibacterial effects against the tested bacteria were determined by the disc diffusion method using 5 µL, 10 µL, 15 µL and 20 µL amounts of ginger juice impregnated on sterile discs. Results: As a result of the study, it was detected that the antibacterial effect increased in parallel with the increasing amounts of fresh ginger juice in all tested bacteria. Conclusion: Consequently, fresh Zingiber officinale can provide protection to a certain extent against bacterial pathogens due to its antibacterial action.

An exploratory study based on laboratory experiment was carried out to determine the antibacterial effect of Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) extract of Aloe vera leaf gel (DAE) against standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology, Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. DMSO extract was used in five different concentrations (100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 μg/ml). Dose dependent inhibitory effect was seen against the test organisms using disc diffusion method. Zone of inhibition (ZOI) were 8 mm, 13 mm, 15 mm, 16 mm and 21 mm against S. aureus; 0 mm, 8 mm, 13 mm, 15 mm and 18 mm against P. aeruginosa; 8 mm, 11 mm, 13 mm, 16 mm and 20 mm against E. coli; 0 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm, 14 mm and 18 mm against K. pneumoniae at 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 μg/ml respectively. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was assessed by broth dilution technique. The MICs of DAE for S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, E. coli and K. pneumoniae were 300 μg/ml, 400 μg/ml, 400 μg/ml and 450 μg/ml respectively. From the study it was observed that DMSO extract of Aloe vera leaf gel possesses antibacterial effect against the test pathogens. The findings highlight the need for further extensive study to detect and isolate the biologically active ingredients present in the Aloe vera leaves which are responsible for antibacterial effect. ABSTRAKStaphylococcus aureus merupakan bakteri yang relatif sering dijumpai pada manusia. Beberapa infeksi yang disebabkan oleh Staphylococcus aureus antara lain, bisul, infeksi luka dan pneumonia. Salah satu obattradisional yang dapat digunakan untuk mengobati infeksi yang disebabkan oleh Staphylococcus aureus adalah jamur lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum). Penelitian dilakukan dengan 5 konsentrasi ekstrak etanol jamur lingzhi, yaitu kontrol negatif (0 µg/ml), 20 µg/ml, 40 µg/ml, 60 µg/ml, 80 µg/ml dan 100 µg/ml dan dilakukan 6 kali pengulangan. Metode yang digunakan dalam uji aktivitas antimikroba yaitu metode difusi kertas cakram. Data zona hambat dianalisis dengan uji Anova One-Way. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol jamurlingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum) dengan konsentrasi 100 µg/ml memiliki rata-rata daya hambat tertinggi yaitu sebesar 18,0 mm (sangat aktif). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa semakin besar konsentrasi ekstrak jamur lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum), maka akan berpengaruh besar pula terhadap zona hambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.Keyword : Antibakteri, Ganoderma lucidum, Staphylococcus aureus, Etanol.ABSTRACTStaphylococcus aureus is a bacteria that can cause infections , such as boils , wound infections and pneumonia. One of the traditional medicines that can be used to treat these infections are fungal lingzhi (Ganodermalucidum). The study was conducted with five concentrations of negative control (0 µg/ml), 20 µg/ml, 40 µg/ml, 60 µg/ml, 80 µg/ml, and 100 µg/ml with six repeats. The method used in the test of antimicrobial activity is paper disc diffusion method. Data of inhibition zone were analyzed by Anova-One Way test. The results showed that the ethanol extract of lingzhi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) at concentration 100 µg/ml has highest average of inhibitory regions as big as 18,0 mm. It can be concluded that the greater the concentration of extract of lingzhi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) , it will affect the greater the inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus.Keyword : Antibakteri, Ganoderma lucidum, Staphylococcus aureus, Etanol.

We have studied the antimicrobial properties of 6-bromoeugenol and eugenol by three strains:Pseudomonas aeruginosa(S1),Escherichia coli(S2) andStaphylococcus aureus(S3). We have determined the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for a range of concentrations using the disc diffusion method. We note that all samples present an antimicrobial activity toward the tested bacterial strains at different concentrations (1, 0.5 and 0.25 mg/ml). The 6-bromoeugenol gives modest activity with (S1) and (S3). Eugenol reacts positively with thePseudomonas aeruginosa(S1) at all concentrations and with theEscherichiacoli(S2) at 0.5 mg/ml. We remark that thePseudomonas aeruginosa(S1) is the more sensitive strain thanEscherichiacoli(S2) andStaphylococcus aureus(S3). We have estimated the activity coefficient which has confirmed the antimicrobial activity of the different samples. So, 6-bromoeugenol has shown his efficiency as antimicrobial agent.

Abstract: Indonesia has a high diversity of flora and fauna in the world. Many types of plants can be used as a medicinal plant; one of them is yellow root (Arcengelisia flava Merr.) which has been known empirically by the Dayak community in Central Kalimantan as natural herbs to treat jaundice. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial effect of the yellow root bark extract against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. This study was conducted in the Laboratory of Pharmacology and the Laboratory of Microbiology Faculty of Medicine University of Sam Ratulangi. This was an experimental laboratory study using the Kirby-Bauer modified technique. Yellow root bark extract was obtained from maceration process using ethanol 96%. The antibacterial effect was tested by using the well diffusion method. The results showed that distilled water, the negative control, did not generate inhibition zone around the wells. Ciprofloxacin, the positive control, had the greatest diameter of inhibitory zone. The average diameter of inhibition zone generated by ciprofloxacin was 39.23 mm against Staphylococcus aureus and 40.95 mm against Escherichia coli. Meanwhile, yellow root extract generated an average diameter inhibition zone of 12.27 mm against Staphylococcus aureus and 14.44 mm against Escherichia coli. Conclusion: Yellow root bark extract potentially had antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Banyak jenis tanaman yang dapat dijadikan sebagai tanaman obat, salah satunya akar kuning (Arcangelisia flava Merr.) yang telah lama dikenal secara empiris oleh masyarakat dayak di Kalimantan Tengah sebagai tanaman herbal alami untuk mengobati penyakit kuning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek antibakteri dari ekstrak batang akar kuning terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli dan dilakukan di Laboratorium Farmakologi, dan Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sam Ratulangi. Jenis penelitian ini eksperimental laboratorium dengan metode modifikasi Kirby-Bauer. Uji efek antibakteri menggunakan metode sumuran. Esktrak batang akar kuning diperoleh dari proses maserasi dengan etanol 96%. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan akuades sebagai kontrol negatif tidak menimbulkan zona hambat di sekitar sumur. Siprofloksasin sebagai kontrol positif memiliki diameter zona hambat yang paling besar. Rerata diameter zona hambat yang dihasilkan oleh siprofloksasin 39,23 mm terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan 40,95 mm terhadap Escherichia coli. Ekstrak akar kuning menghasilkan rerata diameter zona hambat sebesar 12,27 mm terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan 14,44 mm terhadap Escherichia coli. Simpulan: Ekstrak batang akar kuning berpotensi memiliki efek antibakteri terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. ABSTRACTSponges are multicellular metazoa animals belonging to the Porifera phylum, which has a different structure from other metazoans. The purpose of this study was to determine whether ethanol extracts from the marine organism sponge Ianthella basta have antimicrobial activity against several pathogenic microbes Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans. The extraction method used is maceration with 96% ethanol solvent. The method used is the Diffusion Method (Disc Diffusion Kirby and Bauer). The antimicrobial activity test uses a 6 mm paper disc with 50 µL absorption per disc. The results of crude ethanol extract of Ianthella basta sponge from all test microbes, namely Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans, were seen to provide the greatest inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with an average of inhibitory zone of 7.00 mm categorize as intermediate The results obtained showed that the crude extract of the sponge Ianthella basta has antimicrobial activity because it can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans microbes even though the inhibition zone is categorized as intermediate. Keywords: Ianthella basta, antimicrobial, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans. ABSTRAKSpons adalah hewan metazoa multiseluler tergolong ke dalam filum Porifera, yang memiliki perbedaan struktur dengan metazoan lainnya. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui apakah ekstrak etanol dari organisme laut spons Ianthella basta memiliki aktivitas antimikroba terhadap beberapa mikroba patogen Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa dan Candida albicans. Metode ekstraksi yang digunakan adalah maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 96%. Metode yang digunakan yaitu Metode Difusi (Disc Diffusion Kirby and Bauer).  Pengujian aktivitas antimikroba ini menggunakan kertas cakram (paper disc) berukuran 6 mm dengan daya serap 50 µL tiap cakram. Hasil ekstrak kasar etanol Spons Ianthella basta dari semua mikroba uji yaitu Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa dan Candida albicans, terlihat yang memberikan daya hambat paling besar terdapat pada bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan jumlah rata – rata zona hambat yaitu 7,00 mm dengan kategori sedang. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kasar dari Spons Ianthella basta memiliki aktivitas antimikroba karena mampu menghambat pertumbuhan mikroba uji Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli dan Candida albicans walaupun dengan zona hambat yang  dikategorikan sedang. Kata Kunci : Ianthella basta, antimikroba, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans.

Title (Bahasa Indonesia): Senyawa antibakteri spons, Agelas tubulata dan Phyllospongia sp., dari Perairan Teluk Manado, terhadap pertumbuhan beberapa strain bakteri Agelas tubulataand Phyllospongiasp. are marine spongethat contain active compoundsthat have potential to beantibacterial, anticancer and antifungal which have not been used. This study was aimed to examine the sponge extracts which inhibitbacterial growth, i.e. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, S. saprophyticus andtoanalyze the active fraction of the antibacterial component using bio-autographic method. Agelas tubulataand Phyllospongiasp. were collected from Manado Bayand method used in the study was Agar Diffusion Method. Results showed that A. tubulataand Phyllospongiasp. extract had antibacterial activity against all 5 bacteria tested. A. tubulataextract had inhibition zone withbroader spectrum than that of Phyllospongiasp. extract, while Phyllospongiasp. has specifity forP. mirabilis.Agelas tubulata danPhyllospongia sp. merupakan spesies spons laut yang mengandung senyawa aktif yang berpotensi antibakteri, antikanker dan antijamur yang belum banyak dimanfaatkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji ekstrak spons laut yang menghambat pertumbuhan 5 bakteri yaitu Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Eschericia colidan Staphylococcus saprophyticus dan menganalisis fraksi aktif antibakteri melalui teknik bioautografi. Spesies spons laut A. tubulata dan Phyllospongiasp. diambil dari Perairan Pantai Malalayang Manado. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode difusi agar. Hasil dari penelitian ini, yaitu ekstrak A. tubulatadan Phyllospongiasp. mempunyai aktivitas terhadap 5 bakteri uji. EkstrakA. tubulatamemiliki daya hambat dengan spektrum yang lebih luas dibandingkan ekstrak Phyllospongiasp.sedangkanekstrak Phyllospongia sp.memiliki spesifitas terhadap bakteri P. mirabilis.
