Introduction. Pollution of drinking water and atmospheric air by anthropogenic haptens forms an imbalance of adaptive capacities of the immune system in children. The purpose of the work is to identify the features of the cytokine profile in children exposed to vanadium and chlorine-containing compounds (for example, chloroform). Materials and methods. We examined 283 children who live in conditions of chronic low-level peroral exposure to drinking water hyperchlorinated products. The control was a contingent of 224 children consuming drinking water of chloroform of adequate quality. We also examined 215 children living in conditions of chronic aerogenic low-level exposure to vanadium, the control being a contingent of 131 children living in the territory of conditional sanitary and hygienic well-being without any stationary sources of vanadium contamination of the atmospheric air. Chemical-analytical and immunoenzymometric methods were used in the study. Results. In children living under chronic oral exposure to drinking water hyperchlorination products, chloroform was identified in the blood, which normally should not be detected. In children living in an area with elevated levels of aerogenic vanadium load, the vanadium content in the blood was found to be statistically significant (p < 0.001) 4.4 times higher than the upper limit of the reference interval. We have established that under conditions of blood contamination with chloroform Th2-shift of cytokine profile occurs - concentration cytokines IL4, IL6 increases statistically significantly, frequency of excess was 2.2 and 4.3 times in comparison with the values obtained in unexposed children ( p ≤ 0,001-0,031); under conditions of contamination of biological media with vanadium, a decrease in Th1 cytokine production was observed - the expression of the proinflammatory cytokine TNFα was statistically significantly depressed, the multiple of the decrease was 2.2 times as compared to the results obtained in children not exposed to vanadium ( p = 0.032). Conclusions. The presented results show the contamination of chloroform and vanadium to cause a multidirectional nature of changes in the cytokine profile of serum in exposed children with technogenic gaptenes, forming in the future various mechanisms of deterioration of immune response: activation of humoral (Th2-dependent), associated with chloroform contamination or cell suppression (Th1-dependent), associated with excess contamination of vanadium.

In the course of studying the impact of metal compounds on the functioning of the endocrine system and adaptation systems in children living in chronic low-level multi-environmental (atmospheric air, drinking water) effects of a complex of metals, the elevated content of lead, manganese, nickel, cadmium and chromium was established to be 1.5 - 9.4 times higher than the reference level and 1.3 - 2.2 times than indices of the comparison group). In this contingent, disorders of the physical development and malnutrition (ICD: E44-46) were detected by 1.2 - 1.7 times more often than in conditions of sanitary and hygienic well-being. In the course of the analysis of the effectiveness of methods of correction in children of physical development disorders and malnutrition (E44-46) associated with the effects of metals, there was shown the high efficiency of the complex application of elimination, membrane stabilizing, antioxidant and nootropic technologies, with methods of physiotherapy (Ultrasound therapy, inductothermy) and exercise therapy. With comparable economic costs with traditional approaches, the proposed correction technologies demonstrate a significant benefit (up to 3.3 times) for the economy of the country and the region. The prevented losses for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the observation group are 13246.0 rubles per person per year (2.25 rubles per 1 ruble of costs, in contrast to 0.7 rubles when using standard methods).

The article presents a theoretical and empirical study of personal-adaptive indicators of the sovereignty of the students’ psychological space. The theoretical aspect of the problem emphasizes on viewing the social adaptation and its close relations with an individual’s social activity, aimed to gain knowledge about the world, develop certain principles and specific ways of interaction. It is stressed that an optimal variant of the local interaction between social environment and personality is the psychological space sovereignty, indicated by personal-adaptive characteristics that define the boundaries of an individual’s well-being and health. The paper demonstrates the importance of studying the sovereignty of psychological space in student years. The program of empirical research and the range of mathematical methods used to process the study results, allow specifying the factor symptom complex of personal-adaptive characteristics of students with different levels of psychological space sovereignty. High level is predetermined by an individual’s integral harmony in terms of positive self-esteem, self-regulation of emotions, independence, constructive communication, and life satisfaction, expressed by self-actualization in the signs of autonomy, creativity, and time orientation; friendliness and responsibility, as well as refractory reactions to the environmental stimuli. The medium level of psychological space sovereignty is characterized by emotional maturity, self-composure, sociability, open-mindedness, and outlook well-being; a social adaptation of such individuals is quite developed and focuses on the search of power, indicated by the quest for leadership and domination. Low level of psychological space sovereignty is denoted by personal maladaptive characteristics of the students, who experience emotional discomfort, existential malaise, the destructiveness of interpersonal communicative interaction, emotional immaturity, and dysphoric reactions to the environmental stimuli. The article necessitates on introducing and implementing psycho-correction practice for students with a low level of psychological space sovereignty to overcome potential emotional and maladaptive processes.

There was executed a clinical laboratory study of 183 children residing in the conditions of constant low-level impact of a complex of such consumed from atmospheric air and drinking water metals as lead, manganese, nickel, chrome, cadmium) and 46 children residing in the conditions of sanitary-hygienically wellbeing of the habitat. The evaluation of Total Hazard Indices (THI) for conditions of chemical substances entering with atmospheric air and drinking water have revealed the excess of accepted values (THI>1) regarding to disorders of the central nervous system in children (THI amounted for up to 4.93) and disorders ofendocrine system (up to THI of 1.13). The results of chemical-analytical researches showed the blood content of lead, manganese, nickel, chrome, cadmium in children living in conditions of low-dose complex load to exceed the reference level by 1.3-2.2 times. In persistent multi-medium polymetallic load the number of children having physical development disorders was found to increase up to 1.2-1.6 times (body weight deficiency - up to 16.5%). There is determined a verified direct probabilistic relationship of cause and effect ofphysical development disorders in children with high blood content of manganese, nickel, and chrome. Exceeding content of lead, manganese, nickel, and chrome (1.3-9.4 times higher than the reference level and the comparative group) in bio-media of children makes a negative impact on the central and autonomous nervous system, creates disorders in protein-synthetic processes in liver, form early shifts of hypothalamo-hypophyseal regulation with further deterioration of physical development indices.

Work-Life balance has its importance from ancient days and the concept is very old, from the day the world has been created. There was a drastic change that has occurred in the market of teachers and their personal profiles. There are tremendous changes in various families which have bartered from the ‘breadwinner’ role of traditional men to single parent families and dual earning couples. This study furnishes an insight into work life balance and job satisfaction of teachers working in School of Villupuram District. The sample comprises of 75 school teachers from Government and private schools in Villupuram District. The Study results that there is increasing mediating evidence in Work-life balance as well as Job satisfaction of teachers are not affected by the type of school in which they are working. Job satisfaction or Pleasure of life will be affected as a whole by Work life balance of an individual which is the main which can be calculated by construct of subjective well being.

Little is known regarding the life satisfaction of rural-to-urban migrants in China. In this study we assessed whether self-esteem and perceived social support mediated the association between rural-to-urban migrants' acculturative stress and life satisfaction. We use convenience sampling to recruit 712 migrants who were employed at construction sites in Nanjing for the study. Results reveal that acculturative stress was negatively related to self-esteem, perceived social support, and life satisfaction; self-esteem was positively associated with perceived social support and life satisfaction; and perceived social support was a significant and positive predictor of life satisfaction. In addition, we found that self-esteem and perceived social support partially mediated the relationship between acculturative stress and life satisfaction. Our findings provide a better understanding of life satisfaction over the course of migration, and add to knowledge of psychological well-being and mental health among rural-to-urban migrants in China.

Childhood obesity and children being overweight has increased recently; although they are multi-causal problems, an unhealthy diet is a critical component. In Mexico, drinking water consumption in children from 9 to 18 years only reaches 30% of total fluid consumption. The aim of our study was to describe the social representations (SR) of drinking water in school-children and parents of two schools in Zapopan, Mexico. Associative free listing was used as an information gathering technique. Schoolchildren aged 8 to 12 years (n = 50) and parents (n = 23) from two elementary schools were selected by a convenience sampling from April to June 2015. A similarity analysis was performed using the co-occurrence index; with this, a similarity graph was obtained. Prototypical analysis was performed to explore the structure of the SR. Three dimensions were described in the children’s SR: a functional dimension related to health and nutrition, a practical dimension that describes the instruments used for its consumption, and a theoretical dimension that specifies the characteristics of water and its relationship with nature. In the parents’ SR, a functional dimension was also found; another dimension was described regarding the integral well-being that drinking water provides. A practical dimension describes the features related to its consumption. The investigation describes the structure of the water SR, which help to contextualize and explain the actions of schoolchildren and their parents regarding drinking water consumption.

Background: Liminality brings confusion among children as they cannot progress to the next stage of life, neither could they regress to their previous state of events. The situation is precarious for socioeconomic deprived children in Africa as it cast aspersion on their career, health and well-being. The study, therefore, examines the experiences’ of children who were supposed to be in school but were observed working at the informal market space in Africa. Methods: Qualitative data was collected through referral and non-discriminative snowballing. Fourty-eight participants (48-KII 2, IDI 10, FGD 6–6 person per group, total 36) from Aleshinloye and Bodija markets in Southwest Nigeria were included in the study. Results: Parental poverty, poor education facilities, peer influence, and the frequent strike by education institutions (pre-tertiary and tertiary) were implicated for the prevalence of child labour in the informal market space in Southwest Nigeria. Conclusions: The negative consequences of the liminality stage far outweigh the positive. Therefore, there is a need for conscientious efforts by community leaders, parents, and relevant stakeholders in the society to eradicate snags within the liminality of children’s education in order to curb child labour. This is necessary to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030.

The development of adequate modeling at the basin level to establish public policies has an important role in managing water resources. Hydro-economic models can measure the economic effects of structural and non-structural measures, land and water management, ecosystem services and development needs. Motivated by the need of improving water allocation using economic criteria, in this study, a Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) with a hydro-economic optimization model (HEAL system) was developed and used for the identification and analysis of an optimal economic allocation of water resources in a case study: the sub-middle basin of the São Francisco River in Brazil. The developed SDSS (HEAL system) made the economically optimum allocation available to analyze water allocation conflicts and trade-offs. With the aim of providing a tool for integrated economic-hydrological modeling, not only for researchers but also for decision-makers and stakeholders, the HEAL system can support decision-making on the design of regulatory and economic management instruments in practice. The case study results showed, for example, that the marginal benefit function obtained for inter-basin water transfer, can contribute for supporting the design of water pricing and water transfer decisions, during periods of water scarcity, for the well-being in both basins.

As urbanization and agriculture increase worldwide, habitats and food sources for wild pollinators are often fragmented or destroyed. As wild pollinators contribute both resilience and variety to agricultural fields, it is desirable to implement land management practices that preserve their well-being and ability to contribute to food production systems. This study evaluates continental Portugal for its change in suitability to host bee’s pollinator species (Apis mellifera) from 1990 to 2018. It uses the InVEST crop pollination modeling tool and CORINE Land Cover, as well as parameterization to produce pollinator abundance and supply maps. These are generalized to municipality boundaries to provide actionable insights to farmers and policymakers and strengthen land management practices. It finds that the potential for pollination services is growing, with averages of both pollinator abundance and supply indices improving by 8.76% across the continental territory in 28 years. The study results are validated using another pollination index derived from a study that is based on expert opinion and field sampling in a sub-region of Portugal. This method of aggregation of model results and comparison of the percent difference by administrative boundary has the potential to better inform both policymakers and farmers about the pollination potential on a local level, as well as inspire interventions for future productivity.

Background: The coronavirus pandemic and the government restrictions significantly disturbed the daily functioning of people, thereby influencing healthy behaviors, such as physical activity—the core indicator of well-being. This study evaluates the associations between physical activity (PA), the level of stress and quality of sleep during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Methods: An online survey was distributed during the governmental lockdown in April 2020 and included measures for assessing physical activity, stress and sleep. The surveyed participants included all adults aged 18 years and over. The final data were collected from the 1959 respondents using: International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Findings: Almost half of the respondents indicated a low level of PA, performing only 60 min of PA daily. Most of the participants reported a moderate or high level of stress (57% and 29%, respectively) and 64% of them reported poor quality of sleep. People with low levels of stress performed on average 85.1 min/day of walking (WPA), 40.9 min/day of moderate PA (MPA) or 52.6 min/day of vigorous PA (VPA). People with good quality of sleep performed 82.9 min/day of WPA, 43.6 min/day MPA and 40.5 min/day VPA. Interpretation: The results from the study indicate that the volume of daily PA may be a predictor of the level of stress and sleep quality in adults during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. To retain a low level of stress and good quality of sleep, a lifestyle that allows to achieve a moderate level of physical activity should be maintained. The optimal daily dose of PA is at least 70 min per day, involving different intensities.
