Due to the reliability standard set during the design and even when it reaches orexceeds the standard service life of more than 90 % of locomotives, railway transport continues toperform its functions. Many years of experience in the operation of locomotives confirm thecorrectness of the norms laid down in the standards for their design to the design loads andindicators of dynamics and strength of load-bearing structures: the standard stock ratio (2) ensurestheir operation during the service life.(25 ... 30 years) In many countries, as part of the extension of the service life of TRS at onetime had to solve complex scientific and applied problems. For example, most recently in Europeancountries, rolling stock depreciation was up to 65% of service life. In the interaction of TRSproducers and users, the concept of repair and modernization of TRS at the facilities ofmanufacturers was adopted, and the amount of modernization depended on customer requirements. After the modernization of the extension of the service life of TRS, it could be used on certainsections of the railway or in other types of work: economic, export, shunting. In our country, thelong-term operation of the TRS of a small number of series led to the fact that the rolling stock wasalmost not renewed and the problem of extending the service life was not solved. Now difficultpolitical and environmental factors have led to the fact that after some time it will be dangerous touse rail transport. As the world and domestic experience of TRS operation shows, urgent changes inall links of the industry and operation are necessary. The resource of TRS put in production allowsto keep and maneuver in a choice of strategy of management of the maintenance of TRS. Inconnection with the aging of rolling stock and the development of the assigned service life arerelevant to the study of the original and residual resources of the structure. To do this, thestandards must be clarified and supplemented on the basis of accumulated operating experienceand taking into account modern knowledge to assess and ensure the necessary durability and safetyof operation of vehicles. Based on this, the topic of changing the system of extending the service lifeis relevant. The article considers the concept of general approaches to extending the service life oflocomotives.

Graduate students are a source of knowledge to companies. Their youth, readiness to show recently acquired abilities, and high levels of motivation to “change the world” are appreciated by human resources hiring teams to complete their purpose: to identify talent that can enhance business areas accomplishing relevant goals. However, “competences” do not always come along with the “full package” of a recent graduate. This chapter describes how a Portuguese retail company developed and implemented a Lean School to (1) upskill internal knowledge, skills, and behaviors about Lean in the existing work force and to (2) prepare the newcomers to use Lean in such a good way as if they had been part of the company for years. The authors will also describe some of the active learning methods used in the Lean School programs and report the evolution on some performance indicators like number of students in attendance and satisfaction levels.

Marketing departments, governments and policymakers all around the world have increasingly started embracing the field of behavioural sciences in improving the design of products and services, enhancing communications, improving managerial decision-making, encouraging desired behaviour by stakeholders and, more generally, creating a human-centric marketplace. Within organisations, the human resources management (HRM) function is perhaps the one place that acknowledges that humans are central to the organisation’s success, so it is critical that HRM too actively embraces the insights and methods of behavioural sciences. In this article, I provide an overview of the behavioural sciences, discuss how HRM can benefit from an in-depth knowledge of the science and illustrate specific examples from recruitment processes, training and communications, incentive design, employee-oriented processes, and diversity and inclusion initiatives that could benefit from evidence from behavioural sciences.

Today, the processes of restructuring the railway sector and the liberalization of the railway market change significantly. Vertical separation between infrastructure railway transportation service provision and train operations is a significant key element in the railway liberalization. This paper focuses on a research into railway regulation and liberalization in 30 countries. The aim of this paper is to give a comparative overview of the regulation of railways and analyses the process of the liberalization and restructuring of railways in the 30 countries. We test this theoretical prediction using a data base that contains investment in transport with private participation, transport services information from World Bank. Our final results are valid for the period 1980-2014. Overall, the analyses showed statistically significant interaction effects between railways transportation and transport services and investment in transport with private participation. This study presents new insights in theory, paving the way for further research.
