Technical and vocational skills are essential for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to secure growth and wealth as per the UAE Vison 2021, Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 and Emiratization strategies. Gaining insights about the factors that influence Emirati students that study technical and vocational education can support the UAE to attract more Emiratis into that area. What are those major influential factors, and are there any differences related to the gender, age level, and location of living in the UAE? The factor analysis revealed five underlying factors; the career factor, the economic factor, the guidance factor, the media factor, and the social environment factor. The career factor (M = 3.48) is perceived as the most influential one, followed by the social environment factor (M = 3.32). The independent sample t-test presented a statistically significant difference between male (M = 2.8, SD = 1.066, N = 178) and female (M = 2.6, SD = 1.066, N = 250) perceptions in the economic factor (t [426] = 2.042 = 0.042, p < 0.05). The result shows that males place more emphasis on the economic aspect when considering their educational paths. The one-way ANOVA revealed a statistically significant variance in the economic factor for the location of living (F [7,420] = 4.278, p < 0.05). The research discloses that the career aspects and future job perspectives in addition to parents of national students are the most considerable influencer, which is forming the basis for this study. Differences in perceptions could be discovered for economic aspects only. The findings reveal it is essential to consider the career, economic aspect, and parents’ involvement when marketing technical and vocational education to Emirati students. Social media marketing is recommended as an advertising tool for best results.

This study is of three-fold. The first provides a general overview of the history and importance of “Technical and Vocational Education and Train-ing” (TVET); the second compares TVET in The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom (as a pioneer country in the field) in order to explore points of similarity and differences and to make recommendations for TVET im-provement in UAE; and the third analyses the relationship between teacher train-ing programmes, accessibility to technical resources, teachers’ technology inte-gration, and the mission and vision of technical and vocational institutes in UAE. Data were collected from 175 teachers and administrators of Technical Vocational Colleges (TVCs) in the UAE. To ensure a comprehensive exploration of the top-ic, three separate research models were developed and tested. All models were analysed using covariance-based structural equation modelling (SEM) through AMOS version 24. Results showed that there is a positive and significant rela-tionship between teachers’ technology integration, teacher training programmes and accessibility to technical resources/equipment, and the mission and vision of the technical and vocational institutes.

Information and communication technology (ICT) elicited rapidly dissemination over the world. For its impact inSudan, the national government has been energized the institutions to implement ICT in every sector. This studyexamined the Sudanese teachers’ skills and ICT integration in technical and vocational education and training TVETin Khartoum state. The study directed out of two hundred respondents were sampled randomly, questionnaires weredistributed, 168 (84%) were properly filled and returned, 130 were males and 38 females from three various bodiesof TVET include (technical secondary schools, artisan institutions, and vocational training centres). A One-WayANOVA and Independent sample t-test on SPSS version 20 for data analysis were adopted. The results revealed thatsignificantly the respondents are same in terms of demographic information and ICTs usage skills. However, therewas a significant difference among the respondents’ ICT skill due to their ages and qualifications. Consequently,more training needs to be conducted for TVET teachers in basic skills of computer use. Following the internationalstandards, the right decisions we are strongly recommending train/teach pre-service and in-service teachers on ICTsskills based on 21st-century requirement.

In the article gives the results of studies, which are based on a multi-year study of pedagogical resources and capacities of the social environment. These results allow to take a fresh look at the views to improving of vocational education in terms of its modernization and present them in a summarized form as a sociopedagogic approach to professional activities. The essence of this approach is to implement the pedagogical potential of society in the process of organization and goals of professional education.

The objective of this paper was to discuss the future potential of Hydropower Generation (HG) in Malaysia based on available publications published between 1970 and 2021 in the Scopus database (12 papers) and non-Scopus (3 papers). Out of the 15 papers reviewed, it was found that 73% of papers studied and discussed the economic aspect of the HG in Malaysia, while 27-47% studied and discussed the social and environmental aspects although some could merge with the economic factor. This paper indicated the economic aspect as primary importance in the hydropower studies and construction in their planning processes until full implementation of this Renewable Energy (RE) in Malaysia. This analysis shows that Large (> 10 MW) Hydropower System (HPS) papers only covered 31% of the 12 papers (discarding the 2 unspecified papers) reviewed in this study, while the rest (69%) covered mostly Micro (< 100 kW) HPS (46%), followed by Mini (< 1 MW), Small (< 10 MW), and Pico (< 5 kW) HPSs. It is almost certain, the Micro HPS or lower capacities of HPS hold the bright future in the reduced costs of energy consumption in Malaysia with special reference to economic factors that would boost the social development the betterment of well-being of the nation.

Today's rapidly evolving technology is expanding the use of innovative communication technologies and their usage areas. to traditional communication technologies today; smartphones, laptop computers, handheld computers, and tablets are also added. Wireless communication technology removes time and space limits, allowing people to communicate both voiced and visual whenever and wherever they wish. Every day, millions of people communicate with each other through social networking networks and share their experience day by day with other network users. The social networks that people often use are also affecting interpersonal relationships. The purpose of this research is to determine the aims of Turkish and German university students to use social networks and how effective social influence is in interpersonal communication. A total of 338 students, 236 Turkish students studying at Karabük University and 102 German students studying at Kassel University in Germany, participated in the research in the academic year of 2016-2017. As a data collection tool, a 10-item questionnaire developed by Özdayı (2010) and a 13-item, “social impact scale” were used. 4 items of the questionnaire used in the study were arranged in the form of "yes-no" and the other items were arranged by the participants to point to the box opposite to the statement they found appropriate. Each participant can mark a few of the options suitable for him / her. Secondly, the "social impact scale" is 5-Likert type. In the face of each article (5) from its fully appropriate expression, (1) Not suitable at all, a gradation to the statement was made. Percentages, mean and t test for binary comparison were used as statistical analysis in the study. According to research findings; all students have smartphones and they use whatsapp, facebook and youtube most from social networks. By students, social media is used to look at mails, homework, study, follow current events, read news, communicate with friends, make new friends, get informed about activities, share videos and photos and have fun. Also by students travel, shopping, technology and cinema blogs are the most preferred. In the survey, in the social dimension of social networks; there was no significant difference between the groups regarding "communication, self-expression, staying out of the group, becoming popular, joining groups, getting social environment, getting status in social environment and sharing". On the other hand, social networking has become an important means of communication and interaction among people today. For this reason, academicians should encourage students who are interested in new technology and communication applications to support the achievement of up-to-date information within the context of lifelong learning, and to conduct research for their own development in the teaching-learning process.

There is a common perception that technical and vocational education is the ultimate solution for providing industries and business with skilled and semi-skilled manpower. It is considered as a dual type of education system that would allow students to transfer what they have learned in their schools and colleges into real work environment. It is a combination of education that encompasses theory and practice where students spend a certain time in industrial and business premises to acquire the needed knowledge, skills and attitudes. Due to the shortage of skilled and semi-skilled indigenous manpower, the gulf states (e.g., Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates) have forged technical and vocational education colleges and institutions with the aim to supply essential sectors of their economy (e.g., oil, electricity and water, health sector, infrastructure), with qualified national manpower able to manage, maintain, and adapt the imported technology to suite local environments. However, the success of technical and vocational institution in achieving an acceptable outcome would, to great extent, depend on the quality of the management of technical and vocational institutions. The fact is managing technical and vocational education is completely different from managing a formal education (e.g., formal colleges and universities). This research paper examines how successful is the management of technical and vocational colleges and institutions in providing local industries with indigenous skilled and semi-skilled qualified manpower. The research is based on extensive field work that encompasses a review of the related literature, interviews with sample of heads of supervisors/heads of departments at the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Electricity and Water, and the oil sector in order to assess the quality of graduates from technical and vocational colleges and institutions. Finally, the research will argue that unless the management of technical and vocational colleges and institutions recognize and appreciate the value of building a strong linkage with local industries, its contribution in tackling the shortage of skilled and semi-skilled indigenous in essential sectors on the economy will be below the government expectations, thus continuing relaying on expatriates for years ahead.

Today’s teenagers spend more time with technology than interacting with people around them whereas adolescents should experience the process of learning and exploring and developing themselves through their surroundings and social environment to foster social interests. The purpose of this study is to describe the social interest of adolescents, especially regarding the family background using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The number of subjects in this study was 196 people with the criteria of the age is those in the age of 12-18 years. Data collection is conducted using the Social Interest Index (SII) instrument by Greever with a total of 32 items. The results of the study show that adolescents have moderate level social interest. There is no significant difference between social interest and the characteristics of the subjects or their family backgrounds.

No one can deny the role of technical and vocational education in the world of work. Technical and vocational education would improve productivity, increase in wages, promote self-employment, and provide an opportunity for practicing talent and creativity in work place. It is an ultimate venue for youth to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes that are mostly needed by industries and business. Indeed, it is different from a formal education where students spend a certain time in real work environment to interact with machines and tools. Technical and vocational education would allow students to work in workshops and laboratories and provide them with the ability to transfer with they learn in classrooms, workshops, and laboratories into real work place. Developing countries (e.g., Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar), has thoroughly realized and appreciate the role of technical and vocational education in reducing the dependence on expatriates, particularly in essential sectors of the economy (e.g., oil, electricity and water, constructions). Kuwait, as a developing country has recognized and appreciate the need to reduce dependence on expatriates by forging the College of Technological Studies, CTS.  The main objective of the College of Technological Studies, Kuwait, is preparing students for the world of work by enhancing the level of student’s knowledge, skills and attitudes that are mostly needed by local industries and business. The research paper focuses on identifying and examining the CTS student’s perception towards the quality of teaching and learning. In addition to, examining industrial perception towards the standard of the CTS graduates. The oil sector and the Ministry of Electricity and Water will be selected to represent the recipients of CTS graduates. The research is based on extensive field work that encompasses a review of the related literature, questionnaires, and an interview with a sample of heads of departments at the CTS.  Interviews will be also conducted with the CTS graduates’ supervisor in selected industries. Finally, the research will argue that unless the CTS recognize and appreciate the value of building a strong linkage with industry, its contribution in tackling the shortage of skilled and semi-skilled indigenous manpower will be below the government expectations, thus continuing relaying on expatriates for years ahead.

The need for skilled and semi-skilled indigenous manpower in the gulf states (e.g., Kuwait. Qatar, United Arab Emirates) is highly noted in the related literature. Technical and vocational education is considered as a dual type of education system that allow students to transfer what they have learned in classrooms, workshops, and laboratories into real work environment. It is the ultimate solution, particularly for the gulf states, to overcome and/or reduce the rate of dependance on expatriates especially in essential sectors in their economy (e.g., oil, electricity and water, health sector). The governments of the gulf states have realized the urgent need to forge technical and vocational colleges and institutions hoping to close the gap with industries and business. Technical and vocational education is completely different from formal education and thus requires a careful design, planning, and monitoring to ensure meeting industrial and business current and future requirements. However, the success of technical and vocational education would depend, to great extent, on the type of management since it requires a specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are distinguished technical and vocational education from any other types of education. The Higher Institute of Communications and Navigation, HIC&N, was forged by the Kuwaiti Government with the aim to equipped local manpower with the know-how and know-why that are mostly needed by local industries. The research is focus on measuring the perception of a sample of heads of departments at the Ministry of Communications towards the quality of HIC&N graduates. The research is based on extensive field work that encompasses a review of the related literature, interviews with a sample of heads of departments at the Ministry Communications to assess the quality of field training program and the standard of the HIC&N graduates. Finally, the research will argue that unless the HIC&N recognize and appreciate the value of building a strong linkage with local industries, its contribution in tackling the shortage of skilled and semi-skilled indigenous in essential sectors on the economy will be below the government expectations, thus continuing relaying on expatriates for years ahead.

As social robots are increasingly introduced into our everyday lives, an emphasis on improving the human-robot interaction (HRI), particularly through increased mind perception, is necessary. Substantial research has been conducted that demonstrates how manipulations to a robot’s physical appearance or behavior increases mind perception, yet little has been done to examine the effects of the social environment. This study aims to identify the impact of social context on mind perception by comparing mind perception ratings assigned to robots viewed in a human context with those assigned to robots viewed in a robot context. Participants were assigned to one of the two contexts in which they viewed images of 5 control robots with either 15 humans or 15 robots and answered questions that measured the degree to which they ascribed mind to the agents. A t-test comparing the overall average mind ratings of the control robots between contexts showed a significant difference between the two, with the robots in the robot context having a higher average rating than those in the human context. This result demonstrates a need to consider the social context in which the HRI will take place when designing for the best interaction. Considering that most robots in the foreseeable future will be viewed in a human context, this result also calls for additional research on ways to further increase mind perception to combat the negative effect of the most likely social environment.
