This study aimed to know about the use and the most dominant of hyponymy as the semantics features through a story Hank and The Horse. In linguistics, a hyponym is a word or phrase whose semantic field is included within another term, its hypernymy. A hyponym shares a type-of relationship with its hypernymy. Hyponymy is part of semantics, and it is sometimes referred to as meaning inclusion. The research was done by using short stories on YouTube. Technology development has been very significant lately, making it easy for educators to find sources for teaching, learning, and other activities. One of them is a short story. Many short stories on YouTube can be used as the teaching-learning media, depending on the subject that is going to discuss. The method in this research was descriptive qualitative methods in presenting the results. Data were analyzed based on the association with hyponyms by semantic analysis. The study participants were the 5th-semester students of the University of Bina Sarana Informatika. The hyponymy was classified into nouns, pronouns, adverbs, verbs, and adjectives, with a total, were 40 hyponymies. The study's findings were 40 hyponymies found in the short story, then classified into nouns, pronouns, adverbs, verbs, and adjectives. Then they were divided into: (1). 13 nouns; (2). 4 pronouns; (3). 7 adverbs; (4). 12 verb; and (5). 4 adjective and the most dominant is hyponymy in the noun.

This interview was conducted on 16 May 2009 at Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek, Cape Town, South Africa. Petina Gappah is the third generation of Zimbabwean writers writing from the diaspora. She was born in 1971 in Zambia, and grew up in Zimbabwe during the transitional moment from colonial Rhodesia to independence. She has law degrees from the University of Zimbabwe, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Graz. She writes in English and also draws on Shona, her first language. She has published a short story collection An Elegy for Easterly (2009), first novel The Book of Memory (2015), and another collection of short stories, Rotten Row (2016).  Gappah’s collection of short stories An Elegy for Easterly (2009) was awarded The Guardian First Book Award in 2009, and was shortlisted for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, the richest prize for the short story form. Gappah was working on her novel The Book of Memory at the time of this interview.

<p>Sebuah peristiwa, dalam kehidupan manusia, dapat menjadi inspirasi bagi penulisan sebuah cerita. Pengarang, sebagai bagian dari masyarakatnya, mengangkat relung-relung kehidupan manusia, ke dalam sebuah cerita. Namun harus dipahami, bahwa pengalaman pengarang dalam kehidupannya sehari-hari, juga mempengaruhi subjek yang ditulisnya. Saat ini tidak dapat dipungkiri lagi, bahwa teknologi komunikasi yang sangat canggih, telah mempengaruhi perkembangan karya sastra. Media penulisan karya sastra, tidak lagi melalui media cetak seperti kertas tetapi sudah melalui peralatan modern yang sesuai jamannya. Namun demikian ragam karya sastra prosa, seperti cerita pendek, justru mampu mengisi ruang media kommunikasi tersebut. Dua orang pengarang, yang menulis cerita pendek di media masa, berusaha mengangkat isu tentang lingkungan. Isu yang diangkat, lebih menekankan kepada masalah lingkungan alam dengan mengangkat isu tentang pohon sebagai bagian dari kehidupan manusia. Tujuan penelitian ini, untuk menelusuri struktur cerita pendek yang mengangkat isu lingkungan dalam jalinan ceritanya. Untuk memenuhi tujuan penelitian, langkah awal dari penelitian ini, adalah melakukan pendekatan struktur cerita, yang kemudian dikaitkan dengan pencarian makna cerita tersebut. Sering sekali di balik sebuah cerita ada pesan yang ingin disampaikan kepada masyarakat pembacanya. Bentuk pesan tersebut tersirat, dalam jalinan struktur cerita pendek tersebut. Pesan yang disampaikan, dalam kedua cerita pendek tersebut,  adalah pesan tentang lingkungan alam, yang  saat ini tidak pernah diperhatikan oleh masyarakat. Dengan alasan, kebutuhan ekonomi yang sangat dominan.</p><p><em>An event, in human life, can be an inspiration for writing a story. The author, as a part of his society, lifts the niches of human life, into a story. But it must be understood, that the author's experience in everyday life, also affects the subject he wrote.</em><em> </em><em>Today it is undeniable, that highly sophisticated communication technology, has influenced the development of literary works. Media writing literature, no longer through print media such as paper but have been through modern equipment that fit his era.</em><em> </em><em>However, the variety of prose literary works, such as short stories, is able to fill the media space communications. Two authors, who write short stories in the mass media, try to raise issues about the environment. Issues raised, more emphasis on the issue of the natural environment by raising the issue, about the tree as part of human life. The purpose of this research, is to trace the structure of short stories, which raised environmental issues in the composition of the story. To fulfill the purpose of research, the first step of this research, is to approach the structure of the story, which is then linked with the search for the meaning of the story. Very often, behind a story, there is a message to be conveyed to the readers. The form of the message is implied, in the composition of the short story structure. The message conveyed, in both short stories, is a message about the natural environment, which today is never noticed by society. This study aimed to analyze the mood and modality used in the short stories of Willem Iskander’s Si Bulus-Bulus Si Rumbuk-Rumbuk, elaborating and explaining the interpersonal meaning realized in each short story. The source of data was taken from a book authored by Willem Iskander, entitled “Si Bulus- Bulus Si Rumbuk-Rumbuk”. This research showed that : (1) there were 157 clauses in the short stories with three mood types and two degrees of modality. (2) interpersonal meaning is realized based on the order of the subject and the finite. (3) the reason why the interpersonal meaning is realized in the way they are is that the author wants to share his thoughts and experiences of Mandailingnese by classifying each clause and finding the dominant use of declarative mood as the most direct and soft way of conveying the author’s thought

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh gambaran tentang (a) perubahan unsur-unsur cerpen, (b) karakter para tokoh dalam cerpen, dan (c) nilai-nilai humanis dalam cerpen sebagai alternatif bahan pembelajaran apresiasi sastra. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis konten dengan pendekatan psikologi sastra. Tahapan penelitian dilakukan dengan studi dokumentasi, yaitu diawali dengan mempelajari teori, lalu mengumpulkan cerpen-cer pen yang monu mental dari ma jalah Hori son, kemudian menganalisisnya, melakukan uji coba, dan menyimpulkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perkembangan unsur-unsur cerpen: ditemukan berbagai karakter dalam tokoh cerita serta ditemukan juga nilai-nilai luhur dalam cerpen yang dapat diaplikasikan dalam pembelajaran di kelas. Cerpen-cerpen tersebut dapat dijadikan bahan pembelajaran sastra yang menyenangkan bagi siswa dan berguna bagi kehidupan sehari-hari masyarakat.Abstract:This study is aimed at obtaining the description of (a) the changes in the elements of short stories, (b)  a picture of  the characters in short story, and (c)  a picture of humanist values in short story as an alternative learning materials of literary appreciation. This study uses content analysis to psychology literature approach. The stage of the  research is conducted by studying the related theory, collecting short stories from the Horison magazine, and analyzing, conducting trials and error,  and making conclusion. The results of research  shows that there is  the develop- ment of the elements of the short story: finding a variety of  characters and great value in the story that can be applied to the teaching-learning process in the classroom as a fun learning materials for students of literature and useful for everyday social life.

This chapter examines the short fiction content of the feminist weekly Time and Tide alongside readers’ letters printed in the periodical’s correspondence columns. A basic unit of magazine production the short story is also ‘definitional to modernism’ (Armstrong 2005: 52), and during the interwar period its status as commodity or art became the subject of increasing scrutiny and debate. Drawing on examples from amateur writers and well-known figures such as E. M. Delafield, the chapter explores how Time and Tide negotiated readers’ expectations for short fiction amongst its core target audience of women readers. Building on Fionnuala Dillane’s application of affect theory to periodical studies (2016), the chapter uses her concept of ‘discursive disruption’ to consider moments of conflict between Time and Tide and its readers over the short stories it published as moments of opportunity for the periodical to expand its scope, readership and brow, and renegotiate its position in the literary marketplace.

This research was aimed to analyze a brainstorming strategy on teaching writing, especially in writing a short story for the second-semester students of the English Department in (STKIP) PGRI Tulungagung in the academic year 2017/2018. This research was conducted using qualitative methodology. The researcher observed and analyzed the writing class where the lecturer was applying a brainstorming strategy. Qualitative data had been collected from observation of the teaching-learning process, interview with the lecturer and the students, and also questionnaire given to twenty students in that class. The data was in the form of observation, interview transcripts, and the results of the questionnaire. In this research, the researcher involved twenty participants to fill the questionnaire. There were six students from those twenty students and the lecturer who were involved in the process of interview. The result of the research showed that implementing a brainstorming strategy in writing class could improve student's skills in writing, especially writing a short story. The brainstorming strategy helped students to generate their ideas and express the ideas into a systematic paragraph. The students also felt that this strategy could improve their writing. When the lecturer applied a brainstorming strategy, the students could do their writing assignments better and also got good results. Thus, the researcher suggested that the lecturer and the students to apply a brainstorming strategy in ordered that the students’ writing skills could be improved.

Cultivating research competencies facilitated by the use of technology in the university is crucial to boost acquisition of knowledge, educational innovation, and successful professional development. The objective of this article is to analyze the evolution and characteristics of scientific production that has had the greatest impact on the momentum of investigative competencies and their articulation within technological scenarios. Applying various selection criteria in the Scopus database, we utilized systematic, bibliometric mapping as a methodological strategy in which 250 articles related to the topic were identified, then analyzed with the semantic analysis software VOSViewer. The results indicate that there is an emerging line of research on the subject since 2016 and point to the underdevelopment of lines that associate research skills with digital literacy, information literacy, digital libraries databases, and the development of critical thinking.

This study aims to describe the improvement of speech skills in responding to students' short stories through the application of the stick talking method. This study is based on learning to speak in response to the short story on the students in the category of low. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive with a classroom action approach that describes speaking skills to respond to classical short stories and speaking skills in response to a short story through a talking stick method. in practive both two cycles consisting of the planning stage, the execution of the action, the observation, and the reflection. The subject of this study were samples dran bypurposive sampling technique of 30 students of class VII-C SMP Negeri 40 Medan. The results showed that students 'ability to respond to the students' short story increased after talking stick method was applied in the pre-cycles, the average score was 52.33 and the percentage of classical completeness was 20% After applying the method of talking stick ), the result of the students 'test scores on the first cycle obtained an average score of 69.5 and increased to 71.67 in the second cycle test.Based on the percentage of students' classical completeness in cycle I 66.67% increase in cycle II 76.67%. The research concluded that the application of talking stick method can improve the speaking skill in responding to the short story in the students of class VII-C SMP Negeri 40 Medan.

This article is dedicated to the problem of the choice of name for a text semantic field formed within a literary text. The goal consists in determination of factors that hinder or preclude the naming of a text field. The subject of this research is the text semantic field observed particularly in the novels of F. M. Dostoevsky &ldquo;The Idiot&rdquo; and I. S. Turgenev &ldquo;Home of the Gentry&rdquo;. The author establishes that the text semantic field is closely connected to the contexts where elements of the field can be equitable, which complicates determination of the core and periphery of a text field, namely its name. In the course of research, the author applied the methods of analysis of scientific literature, interpretation of literary text as an aesthetic system, and method of semantic analysis. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the author is first to discuss the question of difficulties of naming a text field using the materials of the novels &ldquo;The Idiot&rdquo; &nbsp;by F. M. Dostoevsky and &ldquo;Home of the Gentry&rdquo; by I. S. Turgenev. The conclusion is made that in majority of cases a text field can be named by the most frequent element therein. At the same time, the name &ldquo;Idiot&rdquo; in F. M. Dostoevsky&rsquo;s novel does not fully reveal the content of a text field. In some instances it is impossible to name a text field (as in the novel &ldquo;Home of the Gentry&rdquo; by I. S. Turgenev), since elements of the field deal with the equitable mutual implication.

Short story from collection entitled Jazz et vin de palme which has been banned in the Congo Emmanuel Boundzéki Dongala was born in 1941: his father was from the Congo, his mother from the Central African Republic. He spent his childhood and adolescence in the Congo; he then went abroad to study science, first to the USA then to Montpellier in France, where he obtained his doctorate. He is now Professor of Chemistry at the University of Brazzaville. Dongala's novel, Un fusil dans la main, un poème dans la poche (‘A gun in the hand, a poem in the pocket’), was published in 1973 (Albin Michel, Paris) and won the Ladislas-Dormandi prize. It satirised party members and the official ‘scientific Marxism’ ideology of the Congo. This was followed by a collection of short stories, Jazz et vin de palme (‘Jazz and palm wine’), published in 1982 (Hatier, Paris, Collection Monde Noir Poche). The stories draw on Dongala's experiences as a student in the USA and France, as well as providing further satirical comment on contemporary Congolese political moeurs Jazz et vin de palme has been formally banned by the official Censorship Commission in Brazzaville; it is unobtainable in bookshops there, and the local Cercle Culturel Français is forbidden to display it on its shelves. However, Dongala has himself not been subjected to any restrictive measures in his work, administrative responsibilities, or freedom of movement. The short story ‘Jazz et vin de palme’ has been translated and included in a collection of African short stories by various writers, published under the title Jazz and Palm Wine in 1981 (Longman, London, Drumbeat). But the translation of ‘L’Homme' (‘The Man’) printed below is, as far as we know, the first to be published.
