Lane-changing (LC) problem may cause serious accidents or create a painful traffic jam at multi-lane roads. Existing LC simulation model was created with some limitations (less fitted, without velocity and acceleration profiles, high curvature) by using well known trajectory curve such as Hyperbolic Tangent Curve (HTC), Sine-Based Curve (SC), Polynomial Curve (PC). In this study, a new parametric curve had been proposed by using curvilinear coordinate system and fitted against Next Generation Simulation (NGSIM) real dataset. Further, new profiles of velocity and acceleration were designed using the proposed LC trajectory curve. The curvature of proposed model was zero-based curvature both at LC starting and ending points. This proposed curvature was compared with two models such as HTC and SC. The average root-mean-square-error of proposed model decreased with 1.84% for left LC and 15.48% for right LC compared to HTC model and 1.74% for left LC and 15.60% for right LC compared to SC model. Similarly, the proposed model for velocity and acceleration profiles improved significantly from PC model. The proposed parametric curve solves the gap and collision points of LC vehicle with a front vehicle and rear vehicle at target lane and can be used in real LC path planning.

Accurate analysis of the resin filling process into the mold cavity is necessary for the high-precision fabrication of moth-eye nanostructure using the ultraviolet nanoimprint lithography (UV-NIL) technique. In this research, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation model was proposed to reveal resin filling behavior, in which the effect of boundary slip was considered. By comparison with the experimental results, a good consistency was found, indicating that the simulation model could be used to analyze the resin filling behavior. Based on the proposed model, the effects of process parameters on resin filling behavior were analyzed, including resin viscosity, inlet velocity and resin thickness. It was found that the inlet velocity showed a more significant effect on filling height than the resin viscosity and thickness. Besides, the effects of boundary conditions on resin filling behavior were investigated, and it was found the boundary slip had a significant influence on resin filling behavior, and excellent filling results were obtained with a larger slip velocity on the mold side. This research could provide guidance for a more comprehensive understanding of the resin filling behavior during UV-NIL of subwavelength moth-eye nanostructure.

Abstract Several models have been developed to estimate evapotranspiration. Among those, the complementary relationship has been the subject of many recent studies because it relies on meteorological data only. Recently, the modified Granger and Gray (GG) model showed its applicability across 34 diverse global sites. While the modified GG model showed better performances compared to the recently published studies, it can be improved for dry conditions and the relative evaporation parameter in the original GG model needs to be further investigated. This parameter was empirically derived from limited data from wet environments in Canada – a possible reason for decreasing performance with dry conditions. This study proposed a refined GG model to overcome the limitation using the Budyko framework and vegetation cover to describe relative evaporation. This study used 75 eddy covariance sites in the USA from AmeriFlux, representing 36 dry and 39 wet sites. The proposed model produced better results with decreasing monthly mean root mean square error of about 30% for dry sites and 15% for wet sites compared to the modified GG model. The proposed model in this study maintains the characteristics of the Budyko framework and the complementary relationship and produced improved evapotranspiration estimates under dry conditions.

Abstract. The enormous increase in the number of vehicles in the cities makes plenty of problems including air pollution, noise pollution, and traffic jam. Overcoming these annoying issues needs a significant plan in urban management such as using modern techniques in public transportation systems. Sharing either cars or taxies is one of the most interesting ways that has been used in some countries recently. In this phenomenon, 2 or 3 people use other’s car or taxi. In this article, an innovative approach to share taxies is proposed, and it uses a Genetic Algorithm to determine the placement of travelers in taxies. Therefore, some taxis will be switched off, and this helps to decrease urban traffic jam in cities. The results present that the proposed model turns off 69.8 % of taxies, and also 27.8 % of them carry more than one passenger; hence, this confirms the performance of the proposed model.

Aim: This research aimed to present the process of estimating bicycle traffic demand in order to design bike routes that meet the daily transportation needs of the people in Nakhon Sawan Municipality. Methods: The primary and secondary traffic data were collected to develop a virtual traffic simulation model with the use of the AIMSUN simulation software. The model validation method was carried out to adjust the origin and destination survey data (O/D matrix) by running dynamic O/D adjustment. The 99 replication scenarios were statistically examined and assessed using the goodness-of-fit test. The 9 measures, which were examined, included: 1) Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), 2) Root Mean Square Percentage Error (RMSPE%), 3) Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD), 4) Mean Bias Error (MBE), 5) Mean Percentage Error (MPE%), 6) Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE%), 7) Coefficient of Determination (R2), 8) GEH Statistic (GEH), and 9) Thiel’s U Statistic (Theil’s U). Results: The resulting statistical values were used to determine the acceptable ranges according to the acceptable indicators of each factor. Conclusion: It was found that there were only 8 scenarios that met the evaluation criteria. The selection and ranking process was consequently carried out using the multi-factor scoring method, which could eliminate errors that might arise from applying only one goodness-of-fit test measure.


Optimization of business process assists in efficient organization of business process. For the success of optimization of business process, a simulation model based on gap processes for the analysis of buyers' burstiness in business process has been proposed. However, the model has to be validated. The aim of the research is to implement a validation approach to the simulation model based on gap processes for the optimization of business process underpinning elaboration of a new research question on the model validity. The meaning of the key concepts of “validation,” “model validation,” and “model validation approach” is studied. The results of the present research show that the application of real system measurements validates the simulation model for the optimization of business process. The novel contribution of the manuscript is revealed in the newly created research question on the proposed model validity. Directions of future research are proposed.

Accurate forecasting of the house sale value market is important for individual investors, business investors, banks and mortgage companies. This chapter uses fundamentals of Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) to derive and implement a hybrid, genetically evolved feedforward ANN model that predicts next month house sale prices. Derived model results are compared with results obtained using a linear regression model and an Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). The proposed model returned lower Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Absolute Mean Error (MAE), Mean Square Error (MSE) and Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE) results compared with the linear regression and ANFIS models. For case studies real monthly data of USA housing prices from 1963 to 2007 were used.

Incorporating decision-making capability as an intelligence aspect into crowd dynamics models is crucial factor for reproducing realistic pedestrian flow. Crowd dynamics models are still suffering from poor representation of essential behaviors such as lane changing behavior. In this article, we provide the simulated pedestrians in the social force model more intelligence as an extension to the pedestrian’s investigation capability in bidirectional walkways, to let the model appear more representative of what actually happens in reality. In the proposed model, the lane’s structure is modeled as social network. Thereby, the simulated pedestrians with inconvenient walking can detect the available lanes inside his environment, investigate their attractions, and then make decisions to join the most attractive one. Simulations are performed to validate the work qualitatively by tracing the behavior of the simulated pedestrians and studying the impact of this behavior on lane formation. Finally, a quantitative measurement is used to study the effect of our contribution on the pedestrians’ efficiency of motion.

We propose a two-equation turbulence model based on modification of the k − ε standard model, for simulation of a breaking wave. The proposed model is able to adequately simulate the energy dissipation due to the wave breaking and does not require any “a priori” criterion to locate the initial wave breaking point and the region in which the turbulence model has to be activated. In order to numerically simulate the wave propagation from deep water to the shoreline and the wave breaking, we use a model in which vector and tensor quantities are expressed in terms of Cartesian components, where only the vertical coordinate is expressed as a function of a time-dependent curvilinear coordinate that follows the free surface movements. A laboratory test is numerically reproduced with the aim of validating the turbulence modified k − ε model. The numerical results compared with the experimental measurements show that the proposed turbulence model is capable of correctly estimating the energy dissipation induced by the wave breaking, in order to avoid any underestimation of the wave height.

The purpose of this paper is to present a 2D depth-averaged model under orthogonal curvilinear coordinates for simulating two-dimensional circular dam-break flows. The proposed model uses an orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system efficiently and accurately to simulate the flow field with irregular boundaries. As for the numerical solution procedure, The SIMPLEC solution procedure has been used for the transformed governing equations in the transformed domain. Practical application of the model is illustrated by an example, which demonstrates that the mathematical model can capture hydraulic discontinuities accurately such as steep fronts, hydraulic jump and drop, etc.

Using SGA170 mine car as prototype, this paper establishes simulation model of single trailing arm suspension vehicle steering to trapezoidal mechanism using the ADAMS software, and validates the correctness of the proposed model. It can not only effectively shorten the development cycle, reduce development costs and improve the design precision of products, but also lay a solid foundation for other the simulation software.
