Abstract In order to verify the relationship between autonomy in face of authority, bullying and academic performance, we developed three scales that were applied to 274 ninth-graders from public schools in São Paulo, of which 122 were girls with a mean age of 14.1 years (SD = 0.8). It was found that the more students defended punishment for disobedience and respect for authority, the more frequently they were appointed as the best in class and vice versa; these students also considered being victims of violence, which indicates that even students with good performance do not necessarily develop autonomy in face of authority, as they may be following rules without thinking about them. Students who suffer violence tend not to be independent from authority. Further research including students from private schools could corroborate the results of this study.

The basis of each subject is a system of interrelated scientific concepts, from which the quality of the students' knowledge and understanding of the subject matter depends. It is not possible to achieve a level of understanding in natural science education if learning was not systematic. The content of many natural science concepts is so complex that it is impossible to disclose it in one lesson or even in one topic. The content of the concept is disclosed gradually, in parts, by establishing relationships with other concepts, linking them to a system of scientific concepts. Such concepts are being developed throughout the learning period. In this way, a holistic concept of the world is formed. In order to form a system of natural science concepts, it is necessary to make appropriate usage of internal and interdisciplinary integration, to analyse common points of interaction. The principles of systematization and integration of knowledge must be applied. For this purpose, it is appropriate to apply the graph-tree method. This article deals with a systematic integration of the content of "movement" concept as one of the approaches to comprehensive natural science education. The graph-tree method is used to reveal the integrity of “movement” concept in basic education. The concept of movement is chosen as one of the most important concepts of science, differently known and understood by all students. Movement in biological, chemical or physical processes at different levels and in different aspects is analysed by learners at all stages of general education. Keywords: natural science education, internal and interdisciplinary integration, graph tree method, movement.

Utopia. Dialética. Crítica social. Cultura.  Abstract: This paper presents an approach within the thinking of Ernst Bloch (1885/1977) about the relation between Marxism and Utopia: an unusual link within Marxism, commonly held in an irreconcilable opposition. Hence the appropriation of the term "heretical" in reference to the German author's Marxism: the expression is used not in a pejorative sense, but only to situate its distancing from vulgar Marxism, as well as its intention of a radical critique of this tradition. Here we understand that it is particularly through the relationship between Marxism and Utopia that Ernst Bloch's thought appears as an ineluctably political project with a view to a philosophy of concrete praxis in the principal work of the author: The Principle Hope (Das Prinzip Hoffnung) [1954/1959]. In this book we find, in effect, the attempt to think the actuality of Marxism in the context of the age of catastrophe - as defined by Eric Hobsbawm - that is, the long twentieth century that experienced the extreme barbarism of the concentration camp, of which the thinker in question, Jewish and Communist, managed to escape.  Keywords: Marxism. ABSTRACTBackground: Anemia and dementia are common diseases among the elderly, but conflicting data are available regarding an association between these two conditions. We analyzed data from the São Paulo Ageing & Health Study to address the relationship between anemia and dementia. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study included participants aged 65 years and older from a deprived area of the borough of Butantan, São Paulo, Brazil. Data about demographics, education, income, and cognitive and daily life function were collected, as well as blood samples. Anemia and dementia were defined according to WHO and DSM-IV criteria, respectively. Results: Of the 2267 subjects meeting the inclusion criteria, 2072 agreed to participate in the study; of whom 1948 had a valid total blood count and were included in the analysis. Anemia was diagnosed in 203 (10.2%) participants and dementia in 99 (5.1%). The frequency of anemia was higher in patients with dementia according to univariate analysis (odds ratio (OR) = 2.00, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.17–3.41, p = 0.01), but this association was not present after adjusting for age (OR = 1.33, 95% CI = 0.76–2.33, p = 0.32). Further multivariate adjustment did not change the results. Conclusion: Although anemia and dementia are frequent disorders in older people, we found their relationship to be mediated exclusively by aging in this low-income population from São Paulo.

Air pollution is a leading public health concern. In addition, poor populations have been reported as showing increased exposure to such pollution. The current study thus aimed to evaluate the socioeconomic status of the population exposed to vehicle-related air pollution in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The study used data from the 2010 Census on head-of-household’s mean monthly income and the percentage of households connected to the sewage system. Exposure to air pollutants was estimated according to traffic density in the census tract plus a 200m surrounding buffer. The relationship between exposure and socioeconomic variables was analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis test. Exposure increased with increasing socioeconomic status (p < 0.001). The population with the highest socioeconomic status lives in the most polluted areas of the city. However, place of residence alone is not capable of measuring exposure. The study suggests that future epidemiological studies include other indicators of vulnerability.

This article presents the results of a research about permanent formation of teachers of early years of fundamental teaching of a public district school of a city of São Paulo-SP; whose general objective is to analyze scopes and limits of permanent formation of teachers to a pedagogical practice committed to building a democratic school. The theoretical contributions is based on the pedagogy of Paulo Freire (2001, 2013b, 2015, and 2016), Imbernón (2009, 2010), and Saul (2010). The nature of the investigation is qualitative and follows Chizzotti (2005) with bibliographic study, field and documentary research. The results of the research show a strong presence of dimensions of permanent formation; materializing principles as the hearing, the dialog, the participation and the movement of action-reflection-action, demonstrated on documents, interviews done, observations, formation meetings and parent-teaching conference.

Media have played a relevant role in society because it is through them that values and concepts of our time are incorporated by teenagers and children. It is important to un-derstand these effects as the young generation is exposed to these media and also how it would be possible to take advantage of this influence to school practices. Focused on this issue, the influence of media, in special movies, how the research in science education had been studies this trend. These work it is an art state which focuses on understands how and what kind of research related with this issue in Natural Science Education in Brazil. For this, we used the full papers presented at the ENPEC- Brazilian Conference on Research in Science Education from 1997 (date of the first meeting) to 2009 (the recently). It is expected that this knowledge will allow evaluating and redirecting these educational researches re-lated to this issue based on our results with the theme cinema and education. Key words: education and media, movies, natural science education, trends.
