ABSTRACT Aim The aim of this study is to evaluate the association of Helicobacter pylori in recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) with or without peptic ulcer. Materials and methods A total of 42 patients were selected for the present study from outpatient Department of Oral Medicine, and divided into control (group I) and test groups (groups II, III). A total number of 15 patients suffering from RAS based on history and clinical examination was selected as group II. A total number of 12 patients suffering concomitantly from RAS and duodenal ulcer based on history and clinical examination were selected as group III. A total number of 15 healthy subjects were selected as controls in group I. All selected subjects belonged to the age group of 16 to 45 years. Data were tabulated and statistically analyzed with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) statistical software version 19 of IBM, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Results Among all three groups, 54.8% was negative and 45.2% was positive for H. pylori. No significant relation was established between H. pylori and RAS. Conclusion In the present study, there was no association of H. pylori in patients with RAS and in patients with RAS along with gastric ulcers. Abstract Aim Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the most common, well-known pathogenic agents in the development of peptic ulcers. Some investigators have shown a relationship between H. pylori and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). However, this relationship is controversial. The aim of this study was to determine the association between H. pylori and RAS using the urea breath test (UBT). Methods and Materials Forty-three patients with RAS and 44 non-RAS controls were evaluated. There were no differences in gender or age in the two groups. The UBT was used to detect H. pylori infection. Data were analyzed using the Chi Square Test. Results Sixteen individuals in the RAS patients (37.2%) and 14 individuals in the control group (31.8%) had a positive breath test. The difference was not considered statistically significant (p=0.597). Conclusion In the present study no statistically significant difference was found between frequency of a positive UBT in the RAS patients and the control group. Clinical Significance Since the probability of a positive test was higher in the more severe cases this factor needs to be considered in the diagnosis and treatment of RAS. The purpose of the study is to investigate changes in fibrinolytic and proteolytic activity of blood plasma in patients with peptic ulcer (PU) taking into account pathogenic Helicobacter pylori (Hp) strains. Materials and methods. 93 patients with PU were examined, of which 30 patients with PU and concomitant Hp cag cag A+/vac A+ (group I), 31 patients with PU and concomitant Hp cag A-/vac A- (group II), 32 patients with PU without concomitant HP infection (group III). The control group consisted of 30 healthy individuals. Fibrinolytic activity of blood plasma was investigated with the help of lysis of azofibrin (fibrin associated with the azo dye orange), which in the alkaline medium turns a bright red color. The level of total (ТFA), enzymatic (FFA) and non-enzymatic fibrinolytic activity (NFA) was evaluated. Proteolytic activity of blood plasma was determined by the lysis of azoalbumin, azocasein and azokol. Research results. The study of fibrinolytic activity of blood plasma showed that the total fibrinolytic activity of blood plasma (TFA) in all groups was significantly higher compared to the control indicators: in patients of group I by 61.5 %, in patients by 40.9 %, in patients of group III by 30.3 %, with a significant intergroup difference between the groups. The growth of TFA was mainly due to FFA. In patients of group I, FFA increased by 2.06 times (p < 0.05), and in patients of group II – by 1.79 times (p < 0.05), in patients of group IIІ – by 1.52 times (p < 0.05) compared with the control. In patients with group I, FFA increased by 12.5 % ​​(p < 0.05) compared with group II. In all patients examined, there was an increase in the proteolytic activity of blood plasma, in particular in group I, the lysis of azoalbumin, azocasein and azocolol increased significantly 2.94 times, 2.83 times and 1.90 times, respectively, and in the patients of group II the investigated indicators increased accordingly 1.87-fold (p < 0.05), 1.96-fold (p < 0.05) and 1.40-fold (p < 0.05), in patients of group III, respectively 1.55 times (p < 0.05), 1.59 times (p < 0.05) and 1.18 times, compared to these values ​​in almost healthy subjects. Significantly more significant changes in proteolysis were detected in the presence of pathogenic Hp strains. Conclusion. Increased proteolytic and fibrinolytic activity of blood plasma is observed in patients with PU. The presence of concomitant Hp in PU leads to more pronounced changes in proteolysis and fibrinolysis. Pathogenic strains of Hp cag cag A+/vac A+ cause significantly more abnormalities in hemostasis.

The aim of this study was to investigate the survival of Helicobacter pylori during production of sucuk (Turkish fermented sausage). The sucuk mixture was inoculated with H. pylori ATCC 43504 to produce a final level in the mixture of ~5 × 106 CFU/g. Samples in group I were fermented and dried traditionally at 22°C for 7 days. Samples in groups II and III were subjected to the traditional fermentation at 22°C for 3 days. After fermentation, group II samples were fermented and dried at 35°C for 4 days and group III samples were treated with heat until the core temperature reached 65°C. On the first day of fermentation, a 1-log reduction in H. pylori was found in all groups. The H. pylori levels in all groups increased by about 1 log CFU/g by the third day of fermentation and reached the inoculation level. On the fifth and seventh days of fermentation, no appreciable change occurred in the level of H. pylori in groups I and II. After heat treatment, the H. pylori levels were below the level of detection. These results suggest that H. pylori can grow during sucuk fermentation and that a heat treatment should be used during sucuk processing to destroy H. pylori.

Background: Gastric cancer has been introduced as the second cause of cancer death worldwide. Helicobacter pylori infection is considered one of the main risk factors for this type of cancer, so that it has been classified as group I carcinogens. Objectives: The present research intended to examine the prevalence of cagA, cagC, virB2, vacA, and genotype distribution in H. pylori-infected biopsies and adenocarcinoma cases. Methods: Thirty-four H. pylori gastric biopsies taken from Western Iranian patients that were diagnosed as gastritis, gastric ulcers, and adenocarcinoma were used in this study. Two samples were taken from each patient. These samples were selected based on endoscopic observations and histological examinations. The presence of H. pylori was confirmed by the Rapid Urease test (RUT) and the ureC gene by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. Then, specific primers for vacA and cagPAI were used for genotyping H. pylori by PCR-typing. Results: The obtained results showed that 86.8% of the samples were H. pylori-positive. Moreover, the cagA gene prevalence was 51.50% in the samples. In addition, the adenocarcinoma outcome was significantly related to all selected genes. Likewise, some gastric diseases such as gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcer (DU), gastritis, lymphoid, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) were observed in adenocarcinoma cases. It was also found that the vacAs1m1i1 genotype plays an important role in gastric malignancies. The most frequent vacA genotype in the H. pylori-infected isolates was s1m1i1, and the observed frequency of vacA and cagA genes in adenocarcinoma was statistically significant. Conclusions: The findings showed that H. pylori vacA and cagA gene virulence factors are associated with adenocarcinoma in Western Iranian patients.

BACKGROUND: Low socioeconomical status is a major risk factor for natural acquisition of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in developing countries. Its transmission route is unknown but studies suggest person-to-person transmission. AIM: To evaluate seropositivity of anti-H. pylori antibodies in family members of infected symptomatic index patients as compared to family members of symptomatic uninfected index patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred and twelve family members of 38 patients who underwent endoscopy to exclude peptic disease were studied. Patients were deemed H. pylori infected or not infected when rapid urease test and histology were both positive or both negative. The family members underwent ELISA serology using the Cobas Core II Kit (Roche) and were classified into three groups: I - 29 family members of 10 H. pylori (+) duodenal ulcer index patients; II - 57 family members of 17 H. pylori (+) index patients without duodenal ulcer; III - 26 family members of 11 H. pylori (-) index patients. RESULTS: Seropositivity of group I and II (infected patients) was higher than the control group, 83% vs 38%, specially in mothers, 81% vs 18%, and in siblings 76% vs 20%. Differences between fathers' seropositivity was not statistically significant in the three groups: 100% vs 86% vs 70%. Seropositivity of all family members (mother, father and siblings) between infected group (I vs II) was similar. CONCLUSION: Prevalence of H. pylori infection was higher in family members of infected patients, but was similar among family members of infected patients with and without duodenal ulcer. H. pylori infection is more frequent in mothers and siblings of infected index children. A common source of infection cannot be excluded, but facts suggest that person-to-person transmission occurs, specially from mother to child.

ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the effect of intracanal cryotherapy with negative pressure irrigation (EndoVac) on postendodontic pain after vital single-visit root canal treatment (RCT). Materials and methods A total of 75 single-rooted teeth with single root canal were treated endodontically. After root canal preparation with Protaper Universal rotary system and irrigation, teeth were divided randomly into three groups (n = 25) according to additional irrigation protocol as follows: Group I: No additional irrigation was applied (control); group II: A 20 mL of room temperature saline was irrigated during 5 minutes using EndoVac, and group III: A 20 mL of 2 to 4°C cold saline was irrigated during 5 minutes using EndoVac. Pain levels were assessed by visual analog scale (VAS) and verbal evaluation of pain questionnaire after 6, 12, 24, 48 hours, and 7 days of canal obturation. The data were then analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 13.0 using Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney U tests at p-value of 0.05. Results The results showed that pain levels were high in groups I and II after 6 hours that decreased with time to almost diminish after 1 week, and on the other hand, group III showed no pain among different monitoring periods. Also pain levels in groups II were lower compared with group I after only 6 hours, with significance p < 0.05. Conclusion Postendodontic pain presented with highest values after 6 hours of treatment and reduced to almost nil after 1 week. Intracanal cryotherapy eliminated postendodontic pain clinically. Negative pressure reduced postendodontic pain after 6 hours of treatment. Clinical significance The outcome of this study indicates that the use of intracanal cryotherapy technique with negative pressure irrigation eliminates postendodontic pain after single-visit RCTs. SummaryBackground/Aim: to examine the connection of H. Pylori in saliva and biopsy material with oral lesions.Material and Methods: Sixty patients with dyspeptic complaints were followed up at the Clinic for Gastroenterology at University Medical Clinical Centre in Skopje, divided into two groups: first group consisted of 30 patients without presence of H. pylori, and the second group with 30 subjects and presence of H. pylori. The presence or absence of H. pylori has been ascertained after endoscopic examination-gastroscopy, and implemented urease test (CLO-test). All patients were clinically followed in order to determinate mouth burning, recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS), acid taste and lingual papillary hyperplasia according to Cohen and Proctor. The presence of H. pylori in saliva has been ascertained before endoscopic examination, after chewing Orbit gum without sugar for 1 min using by Pronto dry test. Determination of H. pylori in biopsy material has been ascertained by rapid urease test (RUT).Results: At 30 patients with dyspeptic complaints and presence of Helicobacter pylori, 16 patients (53,33%) had lingual papillary hyperplasia, acid taste, burning mouth and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). At 4 patients (13,33%) was confirmed acid taste, and also at 4 patients (13,33%) burning mouth. At 2 patients (6,67%) was confirmed lingual papillary hyperplasia, burning mouth, and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). At the same time, at 2 patients (6,67%) was confirmed burning mouth, and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS), until at 1 patient (3,33%) lingual papillary hyperplasia, as at 1 patient (3,33%) lingual papillary hyperplasia and acid taste. At patients without presence of Helicobacter pylori but with dyspeptic complaints, was confirmed burning mouth in 14 patients (46,67%), lingual papillary hyperplasia, burning mouth, and acid taste in 7 patients (23,33%); in 3 patients (10,00) lingual papillary hyperplasia, burning mouth, and in 2 patients (6,67%) was confirmed recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). Acid taste was registered in 2 patients (6,67%), and also lingual papillary hyperplasia in 2 patients (6,67%). There was a significant differences in clinical aspect between the patients with and without presence of H. pylori, for p< 0,01(p= 0,002); Pearson Chi-square= 20,10 и and p<0,05(p= 0,01).Conclusions: H. pylori in saliva and biopsy material detected with CLO test are reason for oral lesions at patients with dyspeptic complaints who have the presence of H. pylori.

Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS) is an inflammation of the soft tissues of the mouth characterized by recurrent ulcers without symptoms of other diseases. Clinically, RAS is characterized by painful recurrent ulcerations of the oral mucosa that appear recurrently in single or multiple numbers and have a red halo appearance that usually appears on the lip, cheek, lateral, and ventral mucosa of the tongue in the oral cavity. Triamcinolone acetonide is a prednisolone derivative and is considered an intermediate glucocorticoid. It is effective in reducing the signs and symptoms of many conditions of inflammation of the mouth, including RAS. Binahong contains active compounds of flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and saponins which have an antibacterial effect in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. so Binahong leaf extract can be used as an alternative natural treatment for minor RAS. This research compared the effectivity of extracts leaves Binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) concentrations of 25%, 50% with Triamcinolone Acetonide in healing Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) minor. The research was pretest-posttest control group design, 30 samples divided into 3 treatment groups, where the treatment group I used Triamcinolone acetonide, treatment group II used 25% binahong leaf extract, and treatment group III used 50% Binahong leaf extract. Data were analyzed with a parametric statistical test of paired sample T-test and showed that there was a significant decrease in RAS diameter in groups I, II, and III (p <0.05). The mean difference of RAS diameter between-group in order 2.7mm for the first treatment group, in the second treatment group, was 1.3mm and 2.2mm for the third treatment group. Analysis with Oneway ANOVA showed that after the treatment was given to the three groups, there was a significant average difference of the minor RAS diameter decrease (p <0.05). The results showed that Triamcinolone acetonide was more effective in accelerating the healing of minor RAS than 25% and 50% binahong leaf extract.

It is anticipated that Japanese quail /Coturnix coturnix japonica/ will provide animal proteins in long term space flights. Consequently this species of birds is of research interest of international space program INTERCOSMOS. In the year 1987 we reported on an experiment /2/ in which the effect of chronic acceleration of 2 G hypergravitation, the hypodynamy and the simultaneous effect of chronic acceleration and the location in the centre of the turntable of the centrifuge on the protein fractions in skeletal muscles was studied. The ultrastructure of the heart muscle was now in this experiments examined as well.Japanese quail cockerels, aged 48 days were exposed to 2 G hypergravitation /group IV/ in a 6,4 m diameter centrifuge, to hypodynamy /group III/ and their combination /group V/, respectively for 6 days / Fig.1/. The hypodynamy in group III was achieved by suspending the birds in jackets without contact the floor. The group II was located in the centre ofthe turntable of the centrifuge. The control group I. was kept under normal conditions. The quantitative ultrastructure of myocard was evaluated by the methods of Weibel/3/ - this enables to determine the number, relative size and volume of mitochondria volume of single mitochondria, defficiency of mitochondrial cristae and volume of myofibrils.

The article presents the comparative analysis of the state of the cervix in women with endometrial polyps and micropolyps. Patients and methods. The study involved 130 patients aged 18-35 years: 70 patients with endometrial polyps (group I), 30 patients with micropolyps (group II) and 30 patients of the control group (group III). Results. According to the anamnesis of women in the I group were significantly more frequent diseases of the cervix, which corrected physical surgery methods, in particular cryodestruction. In group II, the representatives of these indicators were similar to healthy. Normal colposcopic picture met significantly less frequently in patients and I, and II group. The differences in the incidence of HPV high oncogenic risk in all groups were not statistically significant. Conclusion. Destructive methods used in the detection of any changes in the cervix are often overly aggressive, form scars and contributing to inflamaciones process. In the chain of events leading to the formation of PE, cervical pathology and its correction can take the basic place.
