ABSTRAK   Pemberian ASI pada bayi sangat penting terutama dalam periode awal kehidupan. Akan tetapi, praktek dalam pemberian Air Susu Ibu (ASI) eksklusif belum mencapai target yang diharapkan. Keberhasilan ASI eksklusif dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor salah satunya adalah faktor dukungan dari tenaga kesehatan termasuk Bidan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan sikap dan dukungan tenaga kesehatan dengan keberhasilan pemberian ASI eksklusif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian untuk studi korelasi dengan desain cross sectional. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh ibu yang memiliki bayi umur 6-12 bulan di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Berangas. Sampel penelitian 78 orang. Teknik pengambilan sampel, yaitu accidental sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 53 orang (67,95%) diantaranya memiliki sikap positif terhadap pemberian ASI eksklusif, 61 orang (78,2 %) diantaranya mendapat dukungan yang baik dari tenaga kesehatan dan 40 orang (62,82%) berhasil memberikan ASI eksklusif. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang bermakna antara sikap Ibu dengan keberhasilan pemberian ASI eksklusif dengan nilai p sebesar 0,004. Hal ini berarti bahwa semakin positif sikap, maka tingkat keberhasilan dalam pemberian ASI eksklusif juga akan meningkat. Terdapat hubungan yang bermakna antara dukungan tenaga kesehatan dengan keberhasilan pemberian ASI eksklusif dengan nilai p sebesar 0,007. Hal ini berarti, semakin baik dukungan yang diberikan oleh tenaga kesehatan, maka keberhasilan pemberian ASI eksklusif juga kan meningkat. Introduction. Types of nursing education in Indonesia are vocational, academic and professional. Professional education is higher education after an undergraduate program that prepares students to have jobs with specific skill requirements. The purpose of this study was to identify factors that affect student interest in continuing professional education nurses based on perception, motivation and support system. Method. The study design was a descriptive analytic cross-sectional approach. Unstratified sampling using random sampling with a sample of 111 respondents in health education institutions in karisidenan Banyumas, there are Harapan Bangsa Purwokerto Institute of Health Science, Purwokerto Muhammadiyah University, Jenderal Sudirman University.Data was analysed by using multivariate logistic regression. Results. The results of the study showed that no correlation  perception, motivation, and support system of nurses Profession election interest in health education institutions in-karisidenan Banyumas (p=0,999; 0,956; 0,135).Discussion. The most dominant factor affecting the interest of the nurse profession was support system.Keywords: interest, perception, motivation, support system, professional nurses

AbstractObjectivesLearning approach in a certain learning process is based on the student’s intentions, behaviors, and habits according to his/her perceptions of the task of learning and determines the amount and quality of learning. The objective of this study is to evaluate the learning approaches of 1st and 4th grade midwifery students to biochemistry course and the change, if there is any, through their education.MethodsThis is an observational, cross-sectional study. The research population consisted of the voluntary students (86.47%, n:147) of the 2017–2018 season of the 1st and 4th class of Manisa Celal Bayar University, Health Science Faculty, Midwifery Department (n:170). Data were collected by using the “Introductory Information Form” and the “Learning Approach Scale”, and evaluated in the SPSS package program by performing number, percentile, mean, standard deviation, independent t test.ResultsThe mean age of the students was 20.82 ± 1.81. Over 95% of the students stated that biochemistry lesson was necessary, while 59.9% reported that their biochemistry knowledge was insufficient. Over 87% of the student expressed their belief that the content of the biochemistry classes will help them in their professional career. Mean score of deep approach for Learning Approach Scale was 34.13 ± 6.07 (Min:19.00–Max:50.00), and mean score of superficial approach for Learning Approach Scale was 26.94 ± 6.37 (Min:15.00–Max:50.00). There was a significant relation between deep approach scale score and the perception of high importance of biochemistry in the professional life (p<0.05).ConclusionsMidwifery students, who believe that biochemistry is necessary for their professional career have a higher motivation for learning biochemistry, thus perform a deeper approach to learning. In general, creating effective and dynamic educational environments that support deep learning is necessary for enhancing the learning of biochemistry.

Abstract Introduction Academic stress and study habits are crucial indicators of academic success. At the moment, faulty study habits press on the students into academic stress. The present study was conducted to identify the academic stress and study habits of university students of health science. Methods This cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted among 150 undergraduate students of nursing, physiotherapy, and pharmacy (n = 50 in each group). A stratified random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. The information on academic stress and study habits was collected by using the Student Stress Inventory and Palsane and Sharma Study Habit Inventory, respectively. Results Mean score of academic stress was found to be 75.353 ± 16.463. Pharmacy students had a higher level of stress compared to physiotherapy and nursing students (p = 0.013). Furthermore, the prevalence of unsatisfactory study habits among undergraduate students was 72%, with a mean score of 52.7 ± 9.152. Also, nursing students had a higher level of study habits compared to physiotherapy and pharmacy Students. There was no significant relationship found between study habits and academic stress (r = −0.048, p = 0.557). There was a significant association found between study habits and gender (p = 0.021), as well the association found between stress level and course type, Pre-University Course percentage, and first-year percentage (p = 0.044, 0.04, and 0.044 respectively). Conclusion Academic stress and poor study habits are prevalent among undergraduate students. This indicates strategies need to be formed to enhance healthy study habits and alleviate the academic stress of the students, mainly in professional courses; it is an urgent need.

Background: Sexual harassment on public transport is an everyday occurrence for millions of girls and women around the globe. With the skyrocketing population of Kathmandu valley public transport has been facing enormous pressure. The major victims of these harassments happens to be college going girls and working women as they tend to travel more in public transports. This study sought to determine the prevalence and factors responsible for sexual harassment in public transport among female health science students.Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out among 396 female health science students studying in Manmohan Memorial Institute of Health Sciences using self-administered structured questionnaire. Participants were selected through stratified random sampling method.Results: The prevalence of sexual harassment among female health science students was found to be 79.6%. Physical harassment was the most prominent type of harassment (67.1%) followed by verbal (61.2%) and non verbal 34.6%. After the experience of sexual harassment, 44.6% scolded the harasser, 29.1% kept silent, 17.3% dropped at nearest bus station whereas remaining 9% reacted in other different ways. Overcrowding was considered as main reason for sexual harassment by 69.2% of the participants. 36.8% of female students didn’t use any precautionary methods whereas 32.6% avoided going out alone at night.Conclusion: The study reveals that the prevalence of sexual harassment is significantly high. With increasing population and limited vehicles people are left with no option rather than travelling in the overcrowded vehicles where the chances of experiencing various sorts of sexual harassments are very high. In order to address this emerging issue, prompt and appropriate intervention should be taken by government, public and especially the status of women must be raised in society.JMMIHS.2018;4(1):20-32

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the dietary patterns and sedentary behaviors among university students in Bahrain. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with students of the College of Health Sciences in Bahrain using a self-reported questionnaire. All the students enrolled in this college were included in this study (642 students; 90 males and 552 females). The mean age of the sample was 20.1±2.0 years. A pre-tested questionnaire was used to collect information on the students’ breakfast intake, snacking, food frequency intake, and sedentary habits. Results: More than 50% of the students did not consume breakfast on a daily basis. A statistically significant difference (p<0.003) was found between males (19%) and females (35%) in relation to the intake of an afternoon snack. There were no significant gender differences regarding frequency of food intake, except for carbonated beverages (p<0.001) and nuts (p<0.047) consumption. Females were more likely than males to spend time watching television, use the Internet, use a mobile phone and sleep; however, the only significant difference found was for Internet use (p<0.003). Being physically active on a daily basis was more prevalent among males (41.6%) than females (16%) (p<0.001). Females (42.9%) were more prone to sleep for less time (<7 h) than males (34.4%)(p<0.08). Conclusion: The findings indicated that a high percentage of health science students in Bahrain had unhealthy dietary habits and sedentary behaviors. Thus, an intervention program to promote healthy dietary patterns and lifestyle habits among university students is highly recommended.

Background: E-learning is essential in health science education, and the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated its utility. Objectives: The study aimed to observe the changes in the scenario of e-learning in Indian Medical Education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 905 undergraduate health science students who agreed with an online survey. A questionnaire was prepared, including sociodemographic details, utilization of commercially available e-learning programs before the pandemic, and the scenario of teaching-learning activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was validated and circulated among medical students of various states across India through social media. Qualitative data were presented as numbers and percentages and quantitative data as mean (SD). Results: Of the 905 students surveyed, 69.17% (n = 626) were female students and 30.83% (n = 279) were male students. Besides, 85% (n = 395) of the students found commercial programs useful in clarifying concepts. Institutional e-learning was mandatory for 71.16% (n = 644) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the 644 students for whom e-learning was mandatory, 69.10% (n = 445) found tools like videoconferencing, Google classroom, zoom meetings, etc. useful in flexibility and autonomy. However, 50.47% (n = 325) of the students preferred a combined method of classroom teaching and e-learning, whereas only 9.93% (n = 64) of students preferred only e-learning as a method of teaching. They were satisfied with institutional programs for clarifying concepts (n = 386; 60%) and communication skills (n = 320; 50%). Conclusions: The utility of e-learning has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, students preferred e-learning in combination with traditional teaching, especially in health science courses.

<p>Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a set of affective, behavioral and physical symptoms with appear in the luteal phase that could affect productivity and quality of life. PMS in adolescents could affect academic performance, such as a decreasing in concentration, failed the exam and absenteeism in the class. The objective was to evaluate the prevalence of PMS and determine its effect on quality of life among female health science students. This cross-sectional study was conducted between July-September 2017 on nursing female students of Health Science Collage “Karya Husada Semarang”, Central a Java, Indonesia. Students were enrolled 207 from first to fourth grade using WHOQOL–BREF form to determine quality of life. Inclusion criteria were having regular menstrual cycles (21-35 days) at least three period. Descriptive analysis and Mann Whitney tests were used for statistical analyses. The prevalence of PMS was found to be 60.8%. Physical health, psychological, social relationship, and environment domain were significantly higher in females with PMS (for each one P &lt; 0.05).</p>

Latar belakang: Salah satu penilaian keberhasilan Program Terapi Rumatan Metadon (PTRM) yang merupakanprogram rehabilitasi terhadap pengguna narkoba -- khususnya pengguna narkotika suntik -- adalah kualitashidup klien. Oleh karena itu perlu diidentifikasi beberapa faktor yang dominan mempengaruhinya. Metode: Penelitian dilakukan dengan desain potong lintang yang dilakukan di Puskesmas Kedung Badakdan Bogor Timur di Kota Bogor. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara dan pengisian kuesionerWHOQOL-BREF pada April-Juni 2018. Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan regresi linier multivariabel. Hasil: Responden dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 62 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rerata skor kualitashidup klien PTRM di Kota Bogor pada domain fisik sebesar 57,6; domain psikologis sebesar 57,5; domain sosialsebesar 63,6; dan domain lingkungan 63,9. Dibandingkan rerata skor populasi sehat di Indonesia, domain fisikdan psikologis lebih rendah daripada populasi tersebut, sedangkan domain psikologis tidak berbeda denganpopulasi tersebut. Adapun skor domain lingkungan lebih tinggi dibandingkan populasi sehat Indonesia. Faktoryang dominan dalam menentukan kualitas hidup pada domain fisik dan lingkungan adalah tingkat pendidikan,sedangkan domain psikologis adalah dosis metadon. Faktor yang dominan dalam menentukan kualitas hidupdomain sosial adalah adanya seseorang yang dapat diajak bicara. Kesimpulan: Semakin tinggi tingkat pendidikan klien, maka kualitas hidup klien pada seluruh domain akansemakin baik. Klien PTRM dengan tingkat pendidikan yang lebih rendah harus dipantau untuk meningkatkankualitas hidupnya. Penanganan klien dengan pendekatan individual dan dukungan sosial dari keluarga danteman diperlukan untuk meningkatkan motivasi serta kepatuhan klien dalam menjalani terapi metadon. The purpose of this study was to determine quality oflife among MMT patients. Methods: The cross sectional study was conducted in Kedung Badak Primary Health Care and BogorTimur in Bogor. Data were collected from interview and filling out WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire fromApril-June 2018. Analysis was performed using multiple linier regression. Results: Total subjects in this study was 62 subjects. The results showed mean scores for physical domainwas 57.6; psychological domain was 57.5; social domain was 63.6; and environmental domain was 63.9.Compared with Indonesian, MMT patient scores were higher in environmental domain and lower inphysical and psychological domain while social domain had no different with it. The dominant factor indetermining physical and environmental domain was level of education, while the psychological domainwas methadone dose, and the existence of someones to talk to was dominant factor for social domain. Conclusion: The higher level of education, will produce better quality of life in all domains. MMTpatients with lower level education must be monitored to improve their quality of life. It is suggested totreat patients based on individual approaches and support from family and friends is needed to motivateclients and adherence to the therapy.
