The paper undertook an economic analysis of Ofada rice production in five prominent rice growing areas of Ogun State.  A two stage purposive sampling technique was employed to select a total of 120 rice farmers from five local government areas which are major areas known for Ofada rice production in the state. Primary data were collected for the study through structured questionnaire and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) among rice farmers groups in the study area. Analytical tools adopted for the study included frequency, percentages, gross margin analysis and profitability ratios. Results of the analysis showed that majority of Ofada rice producers in the study area are male (73.33%). In terms of age, more than half of the respondents fell within the age range of 41 -50 years (63.33%) these farmers were young and within their active productive lives. Results of the distribution of respondents by annual income in the study area revealed that majority of the respondents (60.83%) obtained an income of between ₦201,000 and ₦400,000.00 per hectare.  However, 22.50% of the respondents obtained an income of less than ₦200,000.00 per hectare. The gross ratio, operating ratio, return per naira invested and profitability index were calculated to be 0.95, 0.80, 1.90 and 1.80 respectively. The gross margin of rice production per hectare was also estimated to be ₦222,020.00. All these indicate overall profitability of the enterprise. However, an average low yield of 2.5 tonnes per hectare was recorded due to constraints encountered during production. Some of the identified constraints in the study area are lack of capital (25.83%), lack of tractor for land clearing (10.83%), lack of good farm roads (16.67%), and inadequate processing and storage facilities (11.67%). It is then recommended that access to adequate capital, mechanical equipment and other incentives through farmers’ cooperatives and government aid for construction of farm roads could help increase rice production in the area and this will in turn help Nigeria to achieve a much desired self-sufficiency in rice production.

The rising of semi-organic rice farming in Watukebo Village is due to the doubthness in implementing the semi-organic system. Semi-organic rice farm system require considerable cost savings compared to conventional rice and in the short-term, semi-organic rice production will generally decline. The study was conducted in the Watukebo Village Banyuwangi Regency intentionally. The sample are taken by using total sampling method for semi-organic rice farmers and quota sampling technique for conventional rice farmers. The data used are primary data and secondary data. The Tools of analysis data used are income analysis, R/C ratio analysis, and Cobb-Douglas production function analysis. The results showed that : (1) there was no significant difference between the average income of semi-organic rice farmers and conventional rice farmers, (2) there was no significant difference between the average of cost efficiency of semi-organic rice farming with conventional rice farmers in Watukebo of Blimbingsari, and (3) factors that influence the production of semi organic rice significantly are land area, organic fertilizer, and urea fertilizer. Factors affecting the conventional rice production significantly are the number of seeds and labors.

This study estimated the profitability of rice production among small scale farmers in Bida agricultural zone of Niger state. The study utilized a multi-stage random sampling technique to select a total of one hundred and five (105) rice farmers in the area. The data was collected through a well-structured questionnaire from four communities in the study area. Descriptive statistics and farm budgeting tools were used for the analyses. The descriptive analysis showed that the farmers are highly productive between the age range of 37- 48 years. Furthermore, results also revealed land area cultivated by the farmers to be generally below two hectares. The finding further revealed the variable cost per hectare for rice production to be $126,100 per production cycle, while total revenue of $227,500 was realized by the respondents. The results also revealed cost of labour to account for the largest portion (54.0%) of the total variable cost. This is followed by the cost of seed, fertilizer, transportation, herbicide, pesticide and bagging. The farm budgeting analysis revealed the costs and returns of rice production to be profitable with a gross margin of $101,400 and net farm profit of $98,546.4. The gross profit ratio was calculated to be 0.45 which implies that farmers are selling their rice produce at a relatively high profit percentage. Based on the results obtained from the study, it was concluded that rice production in Bida Agricultural Zone of Niger State is profitable. Hence, the cultivation of rice is an important enterprise that should be encourage, considering the fact that it is a major staple. It is therefore recommended that timely availability of farm inputs such as improved seed variety and agrochemicals will further boos trice production in the area. The study investigated and compared the profitability of paddy and locally rice marketing in the Federal Capital Territory. Primary data was collected using pre-tested well-structured questionnaires through the adoption of multistage sampling technique. Descriptive statistics (mean, percentage and frequency) were used to analyze data for the socioeconomic characteristics of respondents and constraints of marketing both commodities in the study area while gross margin analysis was used to determine the cost and returns of marketing the commodities. The results for the socioeconomic characteristics of respondents sampled revealed that 61% and 71% of paddy and locally milled rice marketers respectively were between the ages of 31 – 50 years, majority (54%) of the respondents had attained some form of formal education, 74% and 48% of paddy and locally milled rice marketers respectively had over 11years of marketing experience while 75% of paddy rice marketers as against 45% of locally milled rice marketers belonged to a marketing association. The results for cost and returns of marketing the commodities revealed that paddy rice marketers with a total revenue of N59,965and gross margin of N41,711 made 51% more profit that their locally milled rice counterparts with a total revenue and gross margin of N44,646.35 and N20,427respectively. It was also revealed that marketing paddy and locally milled rice in the area were affected by challenges such as high transportation cost, unfavourable government policies, and inadequate and obsolete processing facilities. The study concludes that paddy rice marketing is more profitable in the Federal Capital Territory and thus recommends the formulation and implementation of government policies centered on marketing locally produced rice such as imposition of higher tariffs on importers and traders of imported rice as well as the provision of modern day storage facilities to facilitate storage of paddy rice.

This study focuses on determinants of the agricultural loan decision-making process of rice (Oryza sativa) farmers in Abuja, Nigeria, using the Heckman two-stage model and factor analysis. This study was designed specifically to achieve the following objectives: determine the socio-economic profiles or characteristics of rice farmers, analyze the costs and returns of rice production, evaluate factors influencing rice farmers’ decision to obtain an agricultural loan, evaluate socio-economic factors influencing the amount of the agricultural loan, and determine the constraints or problems facing rice farmers. A multi-stage sampling design was employed. A total sample of one hundred (100) rice farmers was included, and primary data were utilized. Data were obtained through the use of a well-structured and well-designed questionnaire. Statistical and econometric tools used in analyzing data included descriptive statistics, gross margin analysis, financial analysis, the Heckman two-stage model, and principal component analysis. The results show that 63% of rice farmers were between the age of 31–50 years. The mean age was 41.90 years. About 65% of rice farmers were male, and 54% of them were married. Also, 93% of rice farmers had formal education and were literate. The household sizes were large, with an average of six persons per household. An average of 71,550 nairas was the loan amount granted to rice farmers by financial institutions. The average farm size amounted to 1.49 hectares. Factors influencing the decision of rice farmers to obtain agricultural loan included age (P < 0.01), marital status (P < 0.05), household size (P < 0.10), educational level (P < 0.05), farm size (P < 0.05), farm and non-farm income (P < 0.10), farm experience (P < 0.05), collateral property (P < 0.05), extension services (P < 0.10), and awareness of loan or credit facilities (P < 0.05). Rice production was profitable with a net farm income of 744,300 nairas. The gross margin ratio of 0.95 means that 95 kobos covered profits, taxes, expenses, interest, and depreciation for every naira invested in rice production activities. Socio-economic factors statistically and significantly influencing the amount of agricultural loan obtained by rice farmers included (P < 0.05) sex (P < 0.01), household size (P < 0.05) and educational level (P < 0.01). The constraints facing rice farmers in obtaining the agricultural loan and production activities included lack of collateral property, lack of fertilizer input, poor-quality feeder roads, lack of credit facilities, inadequate labor input, and complicated and costly administrative procedures to obtain a loan. It is recommended that agricultural loans be made available to rice farmers in sufficient amounts and at low-interest rates. Also, farm inputs, fertilizer inputs, improved seeds, and chemicals should be made available to rice farmers

This study examined the socio-economic characteristics of registered cocoa farmers in Edo State; Nigeria. Primary data was collected using a well structured questionnaire administered to 180 registered cocoa farmers selected using a multi-stage sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and budgetary technique. Results showed that 88.9% of cocoa farmers were male with a mean range of 46 years with 75% being married and 88.8% having formal education. The budgetary technique was used to determine the profitability of cocoa production, which was found to be profitable in the study area at a gross margin of N66, 350, Net Farm Income of N59, 200, and net return on investment of N 1.11.The Benefit Cost Ratio and Expense Structure Ratio of 2.11 and 0.12 respectively indicated that cocoa production was economically profitable and viable since the BCR is greater than 1 and the Gross Ratio (GR) of cocoa production is 0.47. From these profitability ratios, it shows that cocoa production is a profitable business in the study area. Inadequate finance to operate on large scale was found to be the major constraint to the cocoa farmers in the study area. The study concludes that cocoa production is profitable and was recommended that production could be improved and sustained through provision of soft loans to the farmers.Keywords: socio-economics, characteristics, registered cocoa farmers

This research was made to build a design of destination branding for Tourist Village Kerta in Payangan Districts, Gianyar Regency. The Method that being used is qualitative description. The informant determination technique that being used are purposive sampling technique. The data sources that being used are secondary data sources and primary data sources. The Primary data on this report is a data that comes from the observation, focus group discussion (FGD) and interview. While the secondary data on this report comes from the documentation and literature study to completed the primary data. The result from this research showing us that a brand from Tourist Village Kerta is a Climatic Village. Climatic Village was choosen as Tourist Village Kerta brand because Kerta Village has won many awards as Climatic Village. The logo design of Kerta Village as Climatic Village is described with four components such as a bamboo, a cow or a cattle, human and a temple. The bamboo, cattle and human was connected to the Tri Hita Karana concept, while the temple showing us the connection between human and the God. The study was conducted in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand. There are 9 blocks in Sahibganj district. Five blocks are selected for study, namely Sahibganj, Rajmahal, Barharwa, Taljhari and Udhwa. All these block cultivated paddy as a main crop. Using simple random sampling technique, twenty five farmers were selected from each of the five selected villages from each block, making total 125 respondents for the study. The study has clearly brought out that the major constraints perceived by farmers were technical constraints related to non availability of inputs at time, financial constraints related to high cost of inputs, and extension constraints related to lack of training on new production technology of paddy. In order to improve rice production and overcome the perceived constraints, rice growers suggested the construction and regular maintenance of adequate rice farming infrastructure, particularly those related to irrigation and drainage, improvement of extension system through training, demonstration, information through different channels), availability of inputs at reasonable price and the provision of crop insurance.

Background: Diarrhea is an endemic disease in Indonesia and often cause death. In 2015 there were eighteen times the outbreak of diarrhea spread in eleven provinces, eighteen districts / cities, with the number one patient. 213 people and 30 deaths (CFR 2.47%). According to Surabaya City Health Office, there were 65.447 cases of diarrhea in 2015, in other words there were 23 cases of diarrhea in 1000 population. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and diarrhea  in RW XIII and RW XIV Kelurahan Ampel, Subdistrict Semampir, City of Surabaya in  2017. Methods: This was observational analytics study with cross sectional design. The population in this research were all the children under five in the area in RW XIII and RW XIV in Kelurahan Ampel. Sampling technique used was  simple random sampling involving 39 respondents. Primary data were collected by interview with questionnaire, Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Data were analyzed statistically using Fisher’s Exact Test. Results: The result of this this study, there was relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and diarrhea (p=0.000). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and diarrhea.ABSTRAKLatar Belakang: Diare adalah penyakit endemis di Indonesia dan sering menyebabkan kematian. Pada tahun 2015 terjadi delapan belas kali kejadian luar biasa diare yang  tersebar di sebelas provinsi, delapan belas kabupaten/kota, dengan jumlah penderita satu. 213 orang dan kematian 30 orang (CFR 2,47%). Menurut Dinas Kesehatan Kota Surabaya, pada tahun 2015 terdapat 65.447 kasus diare, dengan kata lain terdapat 23 kasus diare pada 1000 penduduk. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan asi eksklusif dengan diare pada balita di RW XIII dan RW XIV Kelurahan Ampel, Kecamatan Semampir,  Kota Surabaya  2017.Metode: Jenis penelitian adalah analitik observasional dengan desain cross sectional. Populasi pada penelitian ini yaitu seluruh balita yang berada di wilayah di RW XIII dan RW XIV di Kelurahan Ampel. Teknik pengambilan data menggunakan simple random sampling didapatkan 39 responden. Data Primer dikumpulkan dengan wawancara dengan kuesioner, Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Analisis data menggunakan uji statistik Fisher’s Exact.Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian ASI eksklusif  memiliki hubungan dengan kejadian diare (p=0,000).Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan yang bermakna antara pemberian ASI Eksklusif dengan kejadian diare.

To bridge the demand supply gap in the Nigerian fishing industry, the value chain analyses in artisanal fishing in the coastal area of Ondo States were investigated. Primary data was used in the study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select four fishing communities in Ilaje local government, where 35 (fishermen, processors and marketers) were each selected randomly from the communities. Data were analyzed using Descriptive Statistics and Gross Margin Analysis. The socioeconomic characteristic indicated that 68.6% of the fishermen, 77.2% processors and 65.7% marketers were less than 50 years of age. Result revealed that all the fishermen were male, 91.2 % processors and 97.10% marketers were female. 62.9% of the fishermen have household greater than 4, the processors has 54.3% household size above 4 and 60% of the marketers have household size above 4. 94.3% of the fishermen have one form of education or the other, 77.1% of the processors have one form of education or the other and 65.7% of the marketers were also educated. All the marketers are into one association or the other. Budgeting analysis indicated positive margin by the two categories of marketers was ₦300.54 and ₦1,866.00 per basket respectively, a net return of 1.04 and 1.30 respectively. Processors had a positive gross margin of ₦43.871.54 and a net return of 1.12. Most influential actor is the marketer.

The aims of this study are to measure the technical efficiency (TE) of Cambodian household&rsquo;s rice production and trying to determine its main influencing factors using the stochastic frontier production function. The study utilized primary data collected from 301 rice farmers in three selected districts of Battambang by structured questionnaires. The empirical results indicated the level of household rice output varied according to differences in the efficiency of the production processes. The mean TE is 0.34 which means that famers produce 34% of rice at best practice at the current level of production inputs and technology, indicates that rice output has the potential of being increased further by 66% at the same level of inputs if farmers had been technically efficient. Furthermore, between 2013-2015, TE of household&rsquo;s rice production recorded -14.3% decline rate due to highly affected of drought during dry season of 2015. Moreover, evidence reveals that land, fertilizer, and pesticide are the major influencing input factors of household&rsquo;s rice production, while disaster, education of household head, family size and other crops&rsquo; cultivated area are core influencing factors decreasing TE. Conversely, the main influencing factors increasing TE are irrigated area, number of plot area and sex of household head.
