Abstract. In complex systems like ships or airplanes many tasks vital to the function of the system are executed by electronic equipment. Earlier research Camp (2004) – Nitsch (2005) has shown that there are frequency ranges in many of these systems, in which disturbances in the system will be observed if an external electromagnetic field exceeds a certain amplitude limit. On the basis of a simplified model in which the dominating coupling mechanisms in complex systems are shown, we will present a method which allows to analyze the vulnerability to electromagnetic fields. The method is based on the segmentation of the initial problem into subproblems with respect to the coupling mechanisms. Under the assumption that the obtained classes can be handled separately, the subproblems are solved and superposed to the overall solution. The Electromagnetic Topology Baum (1982) – Lee (1982) is used to solve the subproblems. This leads to a hybrid method combining different solution approaches. The subproblems are decomposed into smaller subproblems with respect to the shielding levels. This procedure allows us to determine the coupled disturbances into the system. Finally the solution is verified with respect to prescripted limits.

The one-loop effective Lagrangian in scalar electrodynamics is computed using an expansion to second order in the external electromagnetic field and a WKB-type approximation. Quantum fluctuations of both the scalar and vector fields about background scalar and electromagnetic fields are considered.

We reconsider the conversion of the photon into axion in the external electromagnetic fields, namely in the static fields and in a periodic field of the wave guide. The total cross-sections for the conversion are evaluated in detail. The result shows that with strong strength of external electromagnetic fields, the cross-sections are large enough to measure the axion production. In the wave guide, there exists the resonant conversion at the low energies, in which the value of cross-sections is much enhanced.

A generalization of the pseudoclassical action of a spinning particle in the presence of an anomalous magnetic momentum is given. The action is written in reparametrization and supergauge invariant form. The Dirac quantization, based on the Hamiltonian analyzes of the model, leads to the Dirac-Pauli equation for a particle with an anomalous magnetic momentum in an external electromagnetic field. Due to the structure of first class constraints in that case, the Dirac quantization demands for consistency to take into account an operator’s ordering problem.

The supply of heat to oil media pumped by pipeline transport systems is one of the main problems in the oil industry. The article describes a method for supplying heat to oil-containing media using the energy of an electromagnetic field. The possibility of releasing surfaces in contact with oil sludge under the influence of electromagnetic fields has been shown by experiment. We describe the design and parameters of a biconical horn radiator of a microwave electromagnetic field operating at a frequency of 2 450 MHz. A method for generating energy and transmitting it to the emitter by means of a coaxial cable is shown. Testing the emitter in oil placed in an optically transparent and radio-tight double-walled tank is presented. The design of the stand allows us to safely examine the thermal process using a thermal imager. The installation made it possible to heat 7 liters of oil at 15 °C in 12 minutes.

In this work, a sodium-cobalt oxide (NaxCo2O4) ceramic composite nanofiber was manufactured through electrospinning. The response of the fiber to external electromagnetic field was characterized to observe the heat generation in the fiber. In addition, we also measured the current passing through the fiber under the polarization of DC potential. It is found that the fiber has intensive heating behavior when it is exposed to the electromagnetic field. The temperature increases more than 5 degrees in Celsius scale only after 5 s exposure. The current – potential curve of the fiber reveals its dielectric behavior. It is concluded that this ceramic fiber has the potential to be used for hyperthermia treatment in biomedical engineering or for energy conversions.

A novel compact device with spectrum analyzer characteristics has been designed, which allows the measuring of the maximum power received in multiple narrow frequency bands of 300 kHz, recording the entire spectrum from 78 MHz to 6 GHz; the device is capable of measuring the entire communications spectrum and detecting multiple sources of electromagnetic fields using the same communications band. The proposed device permits the evaluation of the cross-talk effect that, in conventional exposimeters, generates a mistake estimation of electromagnetic fields. The device was calibrated in an anechoic chamber for far-fields and was validated against a portable spectrum analyzer in a residential area. A strong correlation between the two devices with a confidence higher than 95% was obtained; indicating that the device could be considered as an important tool for electromagnetic field studies.
