<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Since the middle of the 2000s, digital humanities (DH) involving the collaboration and uniting of research fields from both the humanities and sciences has begun developing rapidly. It involves investigation, analysis, synthesis and presentation of knowledge through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). It is expected to create a new knowledge base within the humanities; history, linguistics, literature, art, files, and so on. By definition, a new field of digital humanities is technical driven given its elaborate use of computing, and is also distinctly interdisciplinary through the ICT (Kawashima et al., 2009). At the same time, “spatial turns” are referred to throughout the academic disciplines, often with reference to GIS and the neogeography revolution that puts mapping (Guldi, 2018).</p><p>As human geography would be a part of the humanities, so all research within human geography can be a part of digital humanities. Geo-spatial information that is dealt with in geography possesses geo-referenced data. GIS has also become popular in digital humanities. The application of GIS within history is facilitating the formation of a new area of research, historical GIS (Gregory and Healy, 2007). Historical geographers have been making use of GIS as a research tool, applying it to historical space within a geographical context. However now we see historians beginning to use GIS within their own research. So far, the relation between human geography and history has been compared to the difference between the dimensions of space and time. While geographers make extensive use of maps focusing on spatial patterns of their temporal changes (spatial process), historians make use of ancient documents as a resource focusing on the temporal relationship between phenomena (Knowles, 2008).</p><p>To ensure a leaping development in the new project-based research style through interdisciplinary and international collaboration within Historical GIS in Japan, and by extension traditional humanities in Japan, it is of great urgency to build portal sites that can provide comprehensive and lateral search of Japanese old maps which are fundamental materials, while making GIS analysis possible.</p><p>The aim of this paper is to introduce Japanese Map Warper (bilingual version), based on an online georeferenced tool developed by Mr Tim Waters in 2009, and to construct a portal site of Japanese old maps which can be embedded into GIS.</p>

Objectives We present a bibliometric review of research on trait mindfulness published from 2005 till 2021 to determine the current state of the field and identify research trajectories. Methods A search conducted on Jan 30, 2021 using the search terms “trait mindfulness” OR “dispositional mindfulness” in the Web of Science Core Collection identified 1,229 documents. Results Using keyword-based network analyses, the various clusters suggested two major approaches in the field, one focusing on cognitive attentional processes, and a second approach that encompasses a wider field of well-being and clinical research topics. We also increasing consolidation of research fields over time, with research on wider individual differences such as personality being subsumed into clinically and wellbeing-oriented research topics. More recently, a distinct theme focused on the validity of measurement of mindfulness emerged. In addition to general patterns in the field, we examined the global distribution of trait mindfulness research. Research output was substantially skewed towards North American-based researchers with less international collaborations. Chinese researchers nevertheless also produced research at significant rates. Comparing the difference in research topics between China and the US-based researchers we found substantial differences with US research emphasizing meditation and substance abuse issues, whereas researchers from China focused on methodological questions. Conclusions Overall, our review indicates that research on trait mindfulness might profit from conceptual and cultural realignment, with greater focus on individual differences research in other areas of psychology to complement the strong clinical and cognitive focus we well as also stronger cross-cultural and comparative studies.

Hyperspectral (HS) images usually have high spectral resolution and low spatial resolution (LSR). However, multispectral (MS) images have high spatial resolution (HSR) and low spectral resolution. HS–MS image fusion technology can combine both advantages, which is beneficial for accurate feature classification. Nevertheless, heterogeneous sensors always have temporal differences between LSR-HS and HSR-MS images in the real cases, which means that the classical fusion methods cannot get effective results. For this problem, we present a fusion method via spectral unmixing and image mask. Considering the difference between the two images, we firstly extracted the endmembers and their corresponding positions from the invariant regions of LSR-HS images. Then we can get the endmembers of HSR-MS images based on the theory that HSR-MS images and LSR-HS images are the spectral and spatial degradation from HSR-HS images, respectively. The fusion image is obtained by two result matrices. Series experimental results on simulated and real datasets substantiated the effectiveness of our method both quantitatively and visually.

Philosophy and all the academic disciplines are sensitive to the aim of sound reasoning – except for the dialectical tradition which sanctions contradictions and antinomies (Heraclitus, Nicolas of Cusa, Hegel, Marx, Vaihinger, Simmel, Rex, and Dahrendorf). A brief overview is presented of conflicting theoretical stances within the various academic disciplines before an assessment is given of the positive and negative meaning of ‘reductionism.’ Against the background of historical lines of development the multiple terms employed in this context are mentioned and eventually positioned within the context of the normativity holding for logical thinking. It is argued that the logical contrary between logical and illogical serves as the foundation of other normative contraries, such as legal and illegal and moral and immoral. Through the discovery of irrational numbers the initial Pythagorean conviction that everything is number reverted to a geometrical perspective that generated a static metaphysics of being which challenged the ideas of plurality and motion. This development uncovered the problem of primitive terms in scientific discourse as an alternative for those theoretical attempts aimed at reducing whatever there is to one single mode of explanation. Zeno’s paradoxes are used to demonstrate an alternative understanding of the difference between the potential and the actual infinite as well as the nature of (theoretical) antinomies. It is argued that genuine antinomies are inter-modal in nature (such as is found in the attempt to reduce movement to static positions in space) and therefore differ from logical contradictions (such as a ‘square circle’ which merely confuses two figures within one modal aspect). Although every antinomy does entail logical contradictions, the latter do not necessarily presuppose an antinomy. The implication is that logic itself has an ontic foundation – as is seen from the nature of the principle of sufficient reason (ground) and the principle of the excluded antinomy – and therefore only acquires meaning on the basis of a non-reductionist ontology. When the method of immanent critique unveils genuine antinomies, the way is opened for meaningful intellectual interaction between different philosophical stances. In distinguishing between contradiction and antinomy philosophers are actually challenged to contemplate the implications of a non-reductionist ontology, such as avoiding the stance of monistic isms.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The aim of the author is to present and discuss methodological problems related to the development of old maps’ digital editions on the example of the so called Gaul/Raczyński topographic map – a perfect case providing the whole catalogue of problems related to archival maps’ representation in the digital form. Today, we can observe an increasing interest in spatial and digital humanities, as well as more frequent old and historical maps dissemination via web services. However, consistent methods of their depiction in the digital manner have not yet been developed. The aim of the project is not only to develop such a method, but also to indicate its perspectives and constraints in the context of its future application among the whole array of old maps. The development of map’s digital edition allows the full use of such data in historical and geographical studies.</p>

This article focuses on digital humanities and Renaissance studies in Canada, highlighting established projects such as Iter and newer efforts such as Serai, and addressing recent interest in historical GIS. This survey of projects demonstrates how the work of Renaissance studies faculty and graduate students in Canada is increasing accessibility to sources, creating new knowledge environments and spaces for collaboration, and encouraging new ways to map and visualize Renaissance data, with an end result that enhances our understanding of the past and the ways that digital technology is changing humanities scholarship. The article also suggests that from the perspective of graduate students, participation in these endeavours provides not only training in digital technologies but also the opportunity to contribute knowledge to the field in concrete ways and the chance to establish a foundation in methodologies and practices that will shape approaches to Renaissance studies research and teaching in the future. Cet article se penche sur les humanités numériques et les études de la Renaissance au Canada, en présentant des projets établis tels qu’Iter et plus récents tels que Serai, ainsi qu’en examinant l’intérêt plus récent pour le système d’information géographique (SIG) historique. Ce survol de différents projets montre comment le travail de professeurs et d’étudiants aux études supérieures dans le domaine améliore l’accès aux sources, créent des environnements pour de nouvelles connaissances et des espaces de collaboration, et favorisent de nouvelles façons de visualiser des données relatives à la Renaissance, enrichissant ainsi notre compréhension du passé, tout en mettant en lumière les transformations des sciences humaines provoquées par les technologies numériques. Cet article avance également qu’en ce qui concerne les étudiants aux études supérieures, la participation dans ces projets non seulement leur donne de l’expérience en humanités numériques, mais leur donne aussi la chance de pouvoir contribuer de façon concrète à l’avancement des connaissances dans leur domaine. Ces expériences leur donne également l’opportunité de développer une méthode et des pratiques qui détermineront leurs approches dans leur recherche et leur enseignement à venir en études de la Renaissance.

Vegetation height is an important parameter in monitoring peatlands. Vegetation height can be estimated using remote sensing. Vegetation height can be estimated by utilizing DSM and DTM. The data that can be used are LiDAR, X-SAR, and SRTM C. In this study, LiDAR data is used for DSM2018 and DTM2018 extraction. The purpose of this research is to detect the vegetation height in Central Kalimantan peatlands using remote sensing technology. The research location is in Bakengbongkei, Kalampangan, Central Kalimantan. The integration of X-SAR and SRTM C is used for DSM2000 and DTM2000 extraction. DSM2000, DTM2000, DSM2018, and DTM2018 performed height error correction with tolerance of 1.96? (95%). Then do the geoid undulation correction to EGM2008. The results obtained are DSM and DTM with a similar height reference field. If it meets these conditions it can be calculated the vegetation height estimation. Vegetation height can be obtained using the Differential DEM method. The Changing in vegetation height from 2000 to 2018 can be estimated from the difference in vegetation height from 2000 to vegetation height in 2018. Results of spatial information on vegetation height and its changes need to be tested for the accuracy. This accuracy-test includes a cross section test, height difference test, and comparison with measurements of vegetation height in the field. The results of this research can be used to monitor the changing the vegetation height in peatlands.

Asymmetrical neural networks are shown in the biological neural network as the catfish retina. Horizontal and bipolar cell responses are linearly related to the input modulation of light, while amacrine cells work linearly and nonlinearly in their responses. These cells make asymmetrical neural networks in the retina. Several mechanisms have been proposed for the detection of motion in biological system. To make clear the difference among asymmetrical networks, we applied non-linear analysis developed by N. Wiener. Then, we can derive α-equation of movement, which shows the direction of movement. During the movement, we also can derive the movement equation, which implies that the movement holds regardless of the parameter α. By analyzing the biological asymmetric neural networks, it is shown that the asymmetric networks are excellent in the ability of spatial information processing on the retinal level. Then, the symmetric network was discussed by applying the non-linear analysis. In the symmetric neural network, it was suggested that memory function is needed to perceive the movement.

Place-related data from social media platforms are still awaiting further exploration in mapping and map-making and are useful to stimulate a debate on how to visualize cartographically this type of subjective and unstructured information. The example of a Facebook group on local history from a town in the American Midwest is used to discuss potentials and limitations of visually capturing historical events and processes. Variations of online story maps are presented as cartographic exercises of deep mapping, in order to point out the relationship between the digital humanities, historical GIS, and historical cartography. The text makes a plea for a narrative cartography of everyday life based on the experiences and values of ordinary people.
