Teaching practices are being modified over time to more student centered approaches to improve the learning. Lecture being the corner stone of the teaching, need techniques to improve its effectiveness thus emphasizing “learning” rather than “teaching.” One of the main problems with long lectures is the low attention span of students. This study was undertaken to assess the role of adding case scenarios to the lectures, thus improving its learning outcomes. It is a descriptive study conducted in 3 rd year and 4th year students at CMH Multan Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) from 1st October 2018 to 1st April 2019. The focus of this study was to know impact of case scenarios in improving learning of the students in a lecture. During study period, on average two lectures per months of department of medicine, were taken with addition of case scenarios. The outcome measurement of this technique was done by two methods, feedback by the students and peer review from colleagues. There were a total of 61 participants who gave feedback on the lecture. Analysis of feedback performa revealed that almost 64% of students had a low attention span after 20 minutes into a well prepared and interesting lecture. Fifty to 90 percent of students agreed or completely agreed that adding aids like videos, graphics, algorithms or case scenarios etc improved the learning of students. More than ninety percent of participants completely agreed or agreed that the case scenarios are relevant, provide sufficient information, improve learning outcome and serve the purpose. The second part of the data collection was peer review; five colleagues attended the lectures during this period and in addition to filling feedback performa, gave valuable reviews on this. All the peers supported the idea of using case scenarios during lectures. We can conclude that adding case scenarios to the large group lecture format makes it more interactive, improved attention span and keeps attention of students which is difficult to achieve in a class of almost hundred.

Background and Objectives: Problem-based-learning (PBL) is generally recognized as a student centered instructional approach. Universal College of Medical Sciences Nepal introduced PBL to second year MBBS and BDS students in July 2019.This study assessed the perceptions of students of second year MBBS and BDS who participated in PBL session. Material and Methods: This was a cross-sectional questionnaire-based study assessing perceptions of the participant students. The validated questionnaire was used for the collection of data at the end of PBL session. The questionnaire comprised of two parts; Part I- Students’ perceptions and attitude towards PBL (9 statements) and Part II Students’ perceptions about the role of tutor in PBL(11 statements).Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21. The frequency, mean and standard deviation were computed and t test was used for the comparison of responses on statements of MBBS and BDS groups. Results: The mean scores on7 out of 9 statements on students’ perceptions and attitude towards PBL was higher than fourat Likert scale 1-5 (5=strongly agree, 4=agree, 3=to some extent agree, 2=disagree, 1=strongly disagree) and on 2 statements was higher than 3.5. The mean scores on all the statements with regard to students’ perception about the role of tutor in PBL were higher than four. The mean scores of both MBBS and BDS groups of students on all statements were compared; the significant differences were obtained only on 2 statements out of 20. Conclusion: The perceptions and attitude of students towards PBL and perceptions about the role of tutor were positive.

The process of education must apply with “Learning Process Skill”, not “Learning Concept”. Process approach marked with student centered curricula, not teacher centered. Role of teacher is as facilitator, mediator, dynamizing, organizing, and catalyst to apply “dialog” as spirit of education process. Critical education model is an education that independent from internal-institutional fetter, social hegemony, or structured to maintain political and economical stability. These happen in the length of our national history, then produce tame-weak human accorded to system condition. Whereas, education is human right, even people right to enhance its maturity, self-identity, and independence to serve his function to his God. .

Low oxygen level is a phenomenon often occurring during the cucumber cultivation period. Genes involved in adaptations to stress can be regulated by non-coding RNA. The aim was the identification of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) involved in the response to long-term waterlogging stress in two cucumber haploid lines, i.e., DH2 (waterlogging tolerant—WL-T) and DH4 (waterlogging sensitive—WL-S). Plants, at the juvenile stage, were waterlogged for 7 days (non-primed, 1xH), and after a 14-day recovery period, plants were stressed again for another 7 days (primed, 2xH). Roots were collected for high-throughput RNA sequencing. Implementation of the bioinformatic pipeline made it possible to determine specific lncRNAs for non-primed and primed plants of both accessions, highlighting differential responses to hypoxia stress. In total, 3738 lncRNA molecules were identified. The highest number (1476) of unique lncRNAs was determined for non-primed WL-S plants. Seventy-one lncRNAs were depicted as potentially being involved in acquiring tolerance to hypoxia in cucumber. Understanding the mechanism of gene regulation under long-term waterlogging by lncRNAs and their interactions with miRNAs provides sufficient information in terms of adaptation to the oxygen deprivation in cucumber. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report concerning the role of lncRNAs in the regulation of long-term waterlogging tolerance by priming application in cucumber.

Background: Stress incontinence is one of the most common but debilitating health issue among women. It has a detrimental effect on overall health and quality of life of women. Trans obturator tape (TOT) has emerged as a promising treatment modality. The aim of present study was to assess the usefulness of TOT in terms of change in quality of life of stress incontinence patients.Methods: The study was performed at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Acharya Shri Chandler of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS), Jammu. A total of 50 symptomatic women were enrolled in the study and underwent TOT procedure using outside-in technique. The quality of life of women was assessed at enrolment and 12 months after the procedure using King’s Health Questionnaire (KHQ). Change in QOL was assessed using paired ‘t’-test.Results: After 12 months follow-up, a total of 27 (54%) patients were entirely symptom free. As compared to pre-treatment QOL assessment on KHQ for general health/incontinence impact, quality of life and symptom scores a % decline of 73.2%, 79.8% and 78.4% was observed. For all the three parts, the change in scores was significant statistically. No other complications and side effects were reported.Conclusions: TOT is a useful procedure which provided symptomatic relief as well as QOL enhancement.

I accept your invitation to comment on the letter of Dr. Ralph Olsen on "Pediatric Practice: "Whose Mood Are We Altering?" in Pediatrics1 and the responses of Dr. Turner2 and Dr. Arnold3 in Pediatrics. Certainly, in any large group of school children, one can find a significant number of children, mostly boys, who are extremely active and who have all the associated findings of the "hyperkinetic syndrome" or the "minimal cerebral dysfunction syndrome"-the short attention span, the poor capacity to concentrate, the poorly controlled impulsivity, and so forth.

The peer review method is one of the problem learning methods. Its essence lies in the mutual study of each other’s written works by students in order to comment and evaluate them for further revision. Like any teaching method, the peer review method has linguodidactic properties – characteristics that underlie it, essential for the methods of teaching foreign languages and distin-guishing this method from others. Also, the method of peer review has specific linguodidactic functions – an external manifestation of the linguodidactic properties of the teaching method, which show what educational and cognitive tasks are solved by using this method in practice in foreign language teaching. Based on the analysis of the literature, the following linguodidactic functions of this method are identified: a) the development of student mentoring in teaching; b) sharing of responsibility by students for mastering the educational material; c) the use of blended learning in the implementation of the peer review method; d) changing the role of a teacher from a “bearer of knowledge” to a moderator of educational and cognitive activities of students; e) changing the ratio between classroom and extracurricular educational and cognitive activities of students; f) reduction of the terms of checking students’ training written works. The work describes in detail each of the selected functions.

Проведен анализ современных научных представлений о роли фосфолипидов (ФЛ) в обеспечении функционирования биомембран и их регуляторной функции в важнейших клеточных процессах. Из ФЛ состоит 50% печени, 1/3 мозговых изолирующих и защитных тканей, окружающих головной и спинной мозг. По рекомендациям РАМН, физиологическая потребность взрослого человека в ФЛ составляет 5–7 г/сут. Согласно проведенным исследованиям, в пищевом статусе населения РФ дефицит ФЛ составляет от 50 до 80%. Показано, что современный уровень знаний о физиологической роли ФЛ способствует созданию и внедрению в производство фосфолипидных продуктов на основе ФЛ и фосфолипидных БАД на основе растительных лецитинов, употребление которых может нормализовать пищевой статус. Дано описание фосфолипидных продуктов и БАД серии Тонус (Супер-Тонус, Фито-Тонус, Тонус-Плюс) и серии Витол (Витол, Витол-Холин и Витол-ФЭИ), разработанных учеными Кубанского государственного технологического университета. Показаны возможности применения растительных лецитинов, фосфолипидных продуктов и БАД на их основе в качестве многофункциональных рецептурных компонентов при производстве пищевых продуктов функционального и специализированного назначения. The analysis of modern scientific ideas about the role of phospholipids (FL) in ensuring the functioning of biomembranes and their regulatory function in the most important cellular processes is carried out. So, 50% of a liver, 1/3 brain isolating and protective fabrics surrounding a brain and spinal cord consist of FL. According to the recommendations of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, the physiological need of an adult in FL is 5–7 g/day. According to the conducted studies, in the nutritional status of the Russian population, the deficit of FL is from 50 to 80%. It is shown that the current level of knowledge about the physiological role of FL contributes to the creation and introduction of phospholipid products based on FL and phospholipid supplements on the basis of vegetable lecithins, the use of which can normalize the nutritional status. The description of phospholipid products and dietary supplements developed by scientists of the Kuban State Technological University of the Tonus series (Super Tonus, Phyto Tonus, Tonus Plus) and the Vitol series (Vitol, Vitol Kholin and Vitol FEI) is given. The possibilities of using vegetable lecithins, phospholipid products and dietary supplements on their basis are shown as multifunctional prescription components in the production of functional and specialized food products.
