The objective of the study was to analyze the Educational Polices of Pakistan with specific focus on examination reforms during 1992 to 2009. .The scope of the study focused on the recommendations made by the policy makers regarding examination reforms which were included in the educational policies of 1992, 1998 and 2009. It reviews the observed phenomenon of service delivery failures in public examination in Pakistan although various initiatives ,programs and policies since 1947 to were introduced to increase the inputs to examination but do not produce effective services outputs where it may counts as students cognitive development as it required for competing the international education system. This was a mix-method study using a phenomenological approach for which a questionnaire and an interview protocol were designed to collect the data. Participants were identified through stratified random sampling design in which teachers were included from secondary and higher secondary level schools/colleges. Two hypotheses were formulated for the study. Data was analyzed by using t- test and through content analysis and it was found that education policies do not comprehensively focus on this important area of education system by which students and teacher learning may be measured due to dearth of research culture. This results in no major reforms in the process of reforms and improvement in the examination process both in academic and administrative sides and working of Boards of Education. On the basis of the findings concrete recommendations have been made

Drawing on data collected during a larger, year-long ethnographic study of a pilot program designed to serve late adolescent newcomers to Canada, this paper uses notions of the phenomenological approach to consider the "inclusion" of late adolescent newcomers in Canada’s education system. The present consideration seeks to frame how some stakeholders implicated in a pilot program to help this particular learner population came to understand the forces that seemingly perpetuated the students’ oppression within the education system. In particular, issues of the parameters of language education, federal and provincial education policies, and funding were identified as the key influences within the phenomenon.

This qualitative descriptive work briefly examines what it has been and continues to be like for islamic education institutions to be alternative institutions in the Singapore’s education system that has the highest performance in international education and tops in global rankings. In Singapore’s education system, islamic education institutions represented by madrasah that are full-time and offer a pedagogical mix of Islamic religious education and secular education in their curricula. There are currently six madrasahs in Singapore offering primary to tertiary education, namely, Aljunied Al-Islamiah, Al-Irsyad Al-Islamiah, Al-Maarif Al-Islamiah, Alsagoff Al-Arabiah, Al-Arabiah Al-Islamiah, and Wak Tanjong Al-Islamiah. Four of them are co-educational, while the other two offer madrasah education exclusively to girls. It explores the powerful and positive potential of islamic education institutions in developing a truly humane science of the the future.

The paper analyzes measures adopted by the Russian Federation on internationalization and globalization of the higher education system, its integration into the international scientific and education area. One of the initiatives of the authorities of the Russian Federation in this direction is Project 5-100, designed to increase the competitiveness of both a selected group of universities and the Russian higher education system as a whole. Among the successful practices of Project 5-100, one can identify the presentation of a single stand of participating universities at the international education exhibitions APAIE, EAIE, NAFSA. Within this study, we explore the cooperation of the universities participating in Project 5-100 with potential international partners at global educational exhibitions by means of network analysis with graphs. The effectiveness of such cooperation from the point of view of integration of the universities from this group into the international higher education area is determined through estimations of the usefulness of participation in such events made by the universities and through scientometric analysis. As a result of this study, it was revealed that active participation in international educational exhibitions including negotiating, establishing contacts with international partners, contributes significantly to the promotion of the universities participating in Project 5-100 in the international arena.

AbstractThe objective of this paper is to develop an simulation model able to test different language education orientations and their consequences for the EU population in terms of linguistic disenfranchisement, that is, the inability of citizens to understand EU documents and parliamentary discussions should their native language(s) no longer be official. I will focus on the impact of linguistic distance and language learning. Ideally, this model would be a tool to help EU policy makers make informed decisions about language practices and education policies, taking into account their consequences in terms of diversity and linguistic disenfranchisement. The model can be used to force agents to make certain choices in terms of language skills acquisition. The user can then go on to compare different scenarios in which language skills are acquired according to different rationales. The idea is that, by forcing agents to adopt certain language learning strategies, the model user can simulate policies promoting the acquisition of language skills and get an idea of their impact. In this way, the model allows not only to sketch various scenarios of the evolution of language skills among EU citizens, but also to estimate the level of disenfranchisement in each of these scenarios.

In this globalized world, education has become an important medium to enhance people-to-people contact. The Delores report of the International Commission on Education for the 21st century highlights the enormous potential of higher education to use globalization as a resource for bridging the knowledge gap and enriching cross-cultural dialogue. As a major contributor to soft power and an important field of public diplomacy, international education can have a wealth of advantages, including the ability to generate commercial value, promote a country’s foreign policy goals and interests, and contribute to economic growth and investment. The People’s Republic of China, well-known for being the world’s most populous nation and the global economic powerhouse, prioritizes the internationalization of the country’s higher education system. China is looking to expand its higher education program and carry out its diplomatic project in South Asia. In this sense, the South Asian zone, especially Nepal, is significant for China, where its educational diplomacy is playing as a “bridge between Sino- Nepal relations.” In this review, we describe the place and priority of “Education” in China’s foreign policy; explore China’s mediums of investment in Nepal’s education sector; and highlight the importance of educational aid in Sino-Nepal relations. Chinese educational aid to Nepal takes many forms, where Nepali students and officials engage with Chinese investment to enhance their career prospects and the education system in Nepal.

PurposeThis study explores the development trajectory of private tutoring in Bangladesh. Specifically, it illustrates how private tutoring has emerged and expanded in the country's education system and examines how governments have responded on this issue.Design/methodology/approachThe authors adopted a case study methodology for this study. Data were gathered from different secondary sources such as books, official documents, scholarly articles, and newspaper reports. The data analysis process consists of three-phases of activities: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification.FindingsPrivate tutoring historically existed in Bangladesh. It is rapidly expanded in the country's education system – from primary to higher secondary level. Currently, it has reached an industrialization stage, where commercial coaching has become a major type of tutoring. The expansion of private tutoring is the inevitable result of the continued privatization and marketization of education. To bring the private tutoring under a framework, the government has taken some regulatory measures that can be characterized as “laissez-faire.” The existing measures are largely ineffective, as the policy makers followed an “top-down” approach when framing the policies.Originality/valueThis study, to the best of the authors' knowledge, is the first to target the historical aspects of private tutoring in Bangladesh. It has potential to fill out the literature gap on private tutoring by analyzing its policy aspect.

Botswana’s education system, like many other African systems, is greatly influenced by western educational ideas and models. This article reviews Botswana’s education system by examining the policies, models and ideas that have influenced its development. Specifically, the review involves tracing the development of the education system of Botswana from the pre-colonial era to the present and highlighting the educational ideas and models in use at each stage. Since most of the educational ideas are based on western models, the article seeks whatever Platonic underpinnings that might belie these ideas. This is because Plato is considered to be one of the greatest thinkers of all time whose ideas on education are pervasive. His ideas have influenced western education systems as well as modern intellectual and educational thinking.

During the reorganisation of education in Nunavut that led to the passing of Bill 21 in 2009, reliance on curricula developed in other parts of Canada was mentioned and sometimes perceived as problematic. In this article, I describe how Inuit concerns have recently been integrated into education policies and programming developed by the Alberta government. To examine educational issues that concern Inuit students at southern schools, I have compared Alberta’s efforts and activities with those of the Kativik School Board in Nunavik (Northern Quebec) where the education system is trilingual with programs in Inuktitut, French, and English. The comparison shows how curriculum content, languages of instruction, and administrative control interrelate in the Canadian context. In particular, curricula seem to be more spiritually focused in Western Canada than in Nunavik or Nunavut.

Analisis terhadap perkembangan nilai Indeks Kesejahteraan Masyarakat Kelautan dan Perikanan (IKMKP) telah dilakukan sejak tahun 2014 sampai 2016. Permasalahan penentuan tingkat kesejahteraan dengan menyusun indikator yang mengarahkan pada pembangunan sektor kelautan dan perikanan secara sektoral dan menjadi wewenang Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan (KKP) adalah penting. Tujuan penulisan makalah ini untuk melihat kinerja pembangunan kelautan dan perikanan dilihat dari indikator kesejahteraan masyarakat pelaku usaha perikanan. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode desk study. Data terdiri data sekunder yang meliputi data ekonomi dan sosial kelembagaan yang dikumpulkan dan diperoleh dari Eselon 1 lingkup KKP. Verifikasi data dilakukan melalui diskusi kelompok terfokus yang dihadiri oleh pengambil kebijakan di Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan (KKP). Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai Indeks Kesejahteraan Masyarakat Kelautan dan Perikanan (IKMKP) tahun 2016 sebesar 48,33. Nilai dimensi sosial dan kelembagaan sebesar 43,31 dan nilai dimensi ekonomi sebesar 43,27. Daerah yang memiliki Nilai IKMKP terbesar yaitu Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat dengan nilai sebesar 100. Sementara itu, daerah yang memiliki nilai IKMKP paling kecil yaitu Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah dengan nilai sebesar 0,00. Hasil tersebut mengindikasikan bahwa program-program pemerintah yang telah dialokasikan di Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat telah memberikan dampak positif terhadap peningkatan kesejahteraan dan sebaliknya untuk Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah masih belum memberikan dampak terhadap peningkatan kesejahteraaanya. Adapun dari analisa faktor penimbang, peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat kelautan dan perikanan akan lebih efektif jika semakin banyak jumlah Lembaga Ketahanan Masyarakat (LKM) yang terfasilitasi permodalan dan tidak terjadi perubahan komposisi pada struktur ongkos usaha perikanan.Title: Analysis of The Development Marine and Fisheries Welfare  Community Index (IKMKP) Analysis of the development of Marine and Fisheries Community Welfare Index (IKMKP) has been carried out since 2014 until 2016.  It is important to determine the welfare level by formulating indicators to the development of the marine and fisheries sector through Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF). The purpose of this paper is to measure the performance of marine and fisheries development based on fisheries businessmen welfare indicators. The research used desk study method and secondary data of economic and social institutional which are collected from Echelon-1 of MMAF. Data were verified in focus group discussions among policy makers of MMAF and were analyzed using quantitative descriptive approach. The results showed that Marine and Fisheries Community Welfare Index (IKMKP) value in 2016 was 48.33. The value of social and institutional dimensions is 43.31 and value of economic dimension is 43.27. Regions that have the highest IKMKP value is West Nusa Tenggara Province with a value of 100. Meanwhile, Central Kalimantan Province has the lowest IKMKP value of 0.00. These results indicate that government programs has contributed to the improvement of welfare in West Nusa Tenggara Province, meanwhile, it has not contributed to the welfare in Central Kalimantan Province. Based on weighted factor analysis, the welfare of marine and fisheries community will be more effective if there are more number of Community Resilience Institutions (MFIs) facilitated by capital and there is no changes in the structure of fisheries business costs.

PurposeDecision-makers must be well-informed to successfully impact the future of the business. The purpose of this study was to explore experiences of US fashion retail executives when making business decisions to understand what resources and strategies are utilized within the decision-making process. Additionally, the role of academic research within executive decision-making process was explored.Design/methodology/approachThis study utilized a phenomenological approach to understand the experiences of fashion retail executives when engaging in business decision-making. Fifteen US fashion retail executives participated in the study. Data were collected through in-depth individual interviews and thematically coded to gain a holistic perspective of the decision-making process within the fashion retail industry.FindingsAs the result of the data analysis and interpretation, three topical areas emerged:: “Incredible Amounts of Information,” “Industry Specific Academic Research” and “Have a Clear Road Map.” The findings suggested that while the facts gleaned from internal and external data are of great importance to fashion professionals, insights gathered from social media are equally influential within the decision-making process. The authors identified five major strategies utilized consistently by fashion retail executives regardless of the type of business they represented: collaboration, adaptability, speed, gut instinct and creativity.Research limitations/implicationsThe results are important to fashion retail companies for improving internal decision-making processes. The identified resources and strategies of the decision-making process can be incorporated into fashion program curricula and considered as learning outcomes when preparing future industry professionals.Originality/valueLimited studies have explored the decision-making process specific to the fashion retail environment, an uncertain and ever-changing industry. Further, the study shed light on the opportunity for academic research use in fashion retail decision-making and contributes to the literature by developing a fashion retail decision-making model.
