High blood pressure is a condition where the systolic blood pressure is >140 mmHg and diastolic >90 mmHg. Hypertension is one of the leading causes of death in the world. The factors that cause hypertension are genetics, age, obesity, lifestyle, stress, and food consumption patterns. Continuous exposure to carbon monoxide gas at high concentrations can also cause an increase in blood pressure. This study aims to analyze the relationship of characteristics, lifestyle, and exposure of carbon monoxide with blood pressure of motorcycle repair shop mechanics at Medan City. This study is an observational study using a cross-sectional design. This research was conducted at 12 workshops in 6 sub-districts in Medan City. The sample in this study amounted to 70 mechanics. Carbon monoxide exposure data were calculated using the intake formula in the ARKL study. Mechanical blood pressure data were obtained by direct measurement twice with an interval of five minutes using a sphygmomanometer. Data analysis using bivariate test. The results showed that 54.3 percent of mechanics had high blood pressure and there was one workshop that had a CO concentration in the air that exceeded the quality standard value, namely 31,329.2 μg/Nm3. There was a significant relationship between a history of hypertension (p=0.005), smoking habits (p=0.001), physical activity (p=0.006), and sodium intake (p=0.015) with blood pressure. There was no significant relationship between exposure of carbon monoxide and systolic pressure (p=0.067) and diastolic (p=0.606). Mechanics should be able to change and control risky lifestyles by increasing physical activity, controlling cigarette consumption, reducing sodium consumption, routinely going to health services and taking hypertension drugs for mechanics who have high blood pressure. Abstract: Obesity is one of the global health problem which is often found. Indonesia is a developing country with high incident of obesity. Adolescents are the age group with high levels of obesity risk. The increasing of obesity followed by increasing co-morbidity the potential to be disease in a later time. Obesity increasing the risk of high blood pressure. Hypertension in adolescents already many found. Hypertension in adolescents is problem because it can be continued in adults. one important factor which play a role in obesity is physical activity. Objective: This research to determine the relationship of obesity with blood pressure and physical activity in adolescents in Bitung. Methodology: This study was observational analytic cross sectional design. Results: There were 60 subjekts as the subject of study that meets the inclusions kriteria which have been measured. Consisted of 21 boys and 39 girls. Of 60 obese adolescents are 34 adolescents with high blood pressure, 26 adolescent with normal blood pressure, 52 adolescent with moderate physical activity, 8 adolescents with low physical activity, there is no a significant relationship with blood pressure (Chi Square Test p=0,120), and there is no a significant relationship with physical activity (Chi Square Test: p=0,486. Conclusion: There is no a relationship between obesity with blood pressure and physical activity in adolescents in Bitung.Keywords: obesity, blood pressure and physical activity.Abstrak: Obesitas merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan dunia yang semakin sering ditemukan. Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara berkembang dengan tingkat obesitas yang tinggi. Remaja merupakan kelompok umur dengan tingkat risiko obesitas yang tinggi. Peningkatan obesitas disertai dengan peningkatan ko-morbiditas yang berpotensi menjadi penyakit degeneratif di kemudian hari. Obesitas meningkatkan resiko terjadinya penyakit tekanan darah tinggi. Hipertensi pada remaja sudah banyak ditemukan. Hipertensi pada remaja merupakan suatu masalah karena dapat berlanjut hingga usia dewasa. Salah satu faktor penting yang berperan pada obesitas adalah aktivitas fisik. Obesitas. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui hubungan obesitas dengan tekanan darah dan aktivitas fisik pada remaja di kota Bitung. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional analitik. Hasil: Terdapat 60 subjek yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi yang telah diukur. Terdiri dari 39 perempuan dan 21 laki-laki dan 39 perempuan. Dari 60 remaja obes tersebut, 34 remaja dengan tekanan darah tinggi, 26 remaja dengan tekanan darah normal, 52 dengan aktivitas fisik sedang, 8 dengan aktivitas fisik rendah, tidak terdapat hubungan bermakna dengan tekanan darah (Uji Chi Square : p=0,120), dan dengan aktivitas fisik (Uji Chi Square : p=0,486). Simpulan: Tidak terdapat hubungan antara obesitas dengan tekanan darah dan aktivitas fisik pada remaja di kota Bitung.Kata kunci: obesitas, tekanan darah, aktivitas fisik

1. During 4 weeks 37 normotensive 50-year-old men identified by screening in a random population sample were given 12 g of NaCl daily, in addition to their usual dietary sodium intake. Blood pressure, heart rate, weight, urinary excretion of sodium, potassium and catecholamines, plasma aldosterone and noradrenaline and intra-erythrocyte sodium content were determined on normal and increased salt intake. The subjects were divided into those with a positive family history of hypertension (n = 11) and those without such a history (n = 26). 2. Systolic blood pressure and weight increased significantly irrespective of a positive family history of hypertension. 3. On normal salt intake intra-erythrocyte sodium content was significantly higher in those with a positive family history of hypertension. During high salt intake intra-erythrocyte sodium content decreased significantly in that group and the difference between the hereditary subgroups was no longer significant. 4. In the whole group urinary excretion of noradrenaline, adrenaline and dopamine increased whereas plasma aldosterone decreased during the increased salt intake. 5. Thus, in contrast to some earlier studies performed in young subjects, our results indicate that moderately increased sodium intake acts as a pressor agent in normotensive middle-aged men whether there was a positive family history of hypertension or not. We confirm that men with positive family history of hypertension have an increased intra-erythrocyte sodium content, and that an increase in salt intake seems to increase overall sympathetic activity.

DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1980-0037.2016v18n6p678 The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of physical activity (PA) and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) levels on the prevalence of overweight and high blood pressure levels in adolescents. In this observational, cross-sectional study, 614 boys aged 10-14 years were assessed for height, body mass, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and blood pressure (BP). CRF was assessed using a run test (Léger Test) and subjects were then grouped according to their CRF level. PA level was assessed through a questionnaire (The Three Day Physical Activity Recall) and classified into two groups, namely > 300 minutes of PA/week and < 300 minutes of PA/week. Maturational stage was evaluated according to the development of pubic hair (self-assessment) as proposed by Tanner. We used statistical descriptive analysis, univariate and multivariate analyses in the total participants and subjects were divided by age. Fifty percent of the sample performed < 300 minutes of PA/week and 67.6% had unsatisfactory CRF levels. There was a higher prevalence of unsatisfactory CRF levels among subjects with altered BMI (overweight), WC (abdominal obesity) or BP (high blood pressure) for all age groups. PA history, however, did not show any significance. A total of 31% of participants were overweight, 24.8% had abdominal obesity and 15.4% had increased BP. Unsatisfactory CRF levels were found to be a better predictor for the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases (CV) risk factors than PA history, regardless of age group.

Introduction: The World Health Organization has already warned of increasing non-communicable diseases among adolescents as a major public health problem. The importance of this age group also lies in the fact that many serious diseases in adulthood have their roots in adolescence. Method: A pre-designed and pre-tested questionnaire was used in class-room setting to collect information from students regarding presence of risk factors of non-communicable diseases. The respondents were also subjected to anthropometric measurements and blood pressure examination using standard operating procedures. Results: A total of 761 students of class VI-XII participated in the study of which 61.4% were boys and rests were girls. High blood pressure among boys and girls were 19.9% and 22.1% were respectively. In Bivariate analysis age > 15 years (median) (OR= 2.11), fast food intake (>3 times/week) (OR= 1.66), Alcohol consumption (OR= 2.22), less physical activity (OR=1.54), increased body mass index (OR=2.53), significantly associated with high blood pressure. In Multivariate analysis age (AOR= 2.25), fast food intake (AOR= 1.50), Alcohol consumption (OR= 2.23), less physical activity (AOR=1.71), increased body mass index (AOR=2.42) remains significant predictor. Conclusion: Detecting the risk factors of high blood pressure prevalent in the population is of utmost importance to achieve a healthy population. Formulation and dissemination of need--based, culturally acceptable and age appropriate scientific messages for school students should be conducted more proactively.
