Several factors that can affect road damage are excessive traffic load, temperature (weather), water, and pavement construction that does not meet the technical requirements. The durability of an asphalt mixture is the resistance of the mixture to the effects of water, water vapor, and temperature. A mixture with a high durability value provides a good mix quality and long-term use. The purpose of this study was to determine the durability of the AC-BC mixture using Mount Baba stone. The general specifications of Bina Marga in 2018 are the reference in this study. By using the standard Marshall test method, the results obtained through the Marshall AC-BC mixture immersion test with a duration of immersion time of 0.5 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 36 hours, 48 hours, 60 hours with a durability value of 95.49% - 86.99%. The increase in immersion time causes a decrease in the durability of the mixture.

To study the asphalt pavement performances on high temperature or its water stabilities, a series of tests, including high temperature stability test, immersion Marshall test, freeze-thaw splitting test, were finished. According to bailey method, initial quasi grading were calculated. Passing rate of 2.36 mm is respectively 36.3%, 33.1%, 36.1%, 38.7%, which is close to the initial quasi grading, namely 36%, 31.5%, 36%, 40%. Respectively at the test temperature of 60 °C, 68 °C, rutting tests were put forward. The results show that the mixture of gradation one has a higher temperature stability than the others in any case. Marshall immersion test and freeze-thaw test were conducted, optimizing with freeze-thaw splitting intensity ratio, which shows that the mixture of gradation one has a better water stability. To sum up, gradation one is recommended, designed by Marshall compaction molding with times of 100.

An asphalt modified by epoxy resin and rubber has the following improved properties: the softening point is 70 , elastic recovery rate is 80%, and kinematic viscosity at 175 is 2879.1mm2 /s. In order to solve the early curing in the process of mixing, storage and transportation, methyl hexahydrophthalic anhydride(MHHPA) was used as the curing agent. A reflective cracking caused by traffic load simulation test was established with the objective to compare the propagation speed of reflective crack of three different structure asphalt mixture samples. The results showed that the sample with epoxy resin and rubber used as stress-absorbing layer can obviously delay reflective cracking, improve the pavement performance and prolong the road life. Furthermore, the results of Marshall test, immersion Marshall test and Rutting test were consistent with the results of the reflective crack simulation test.

AbstractThe mixing temperature has a role in the asphalt smelting process against aggregate, while the compaction temperature has a depth in the density level of the hot asphalt mixture. The better the mixing and compaction process, the better the mixing and compaction process, the better the performance of the asphalt mixture, the better the performance of the asphalt mixture, the better the paved mixture is planned according to the general specifications of Bina Marga 2010. The mixture of mixtures used is Concrete Wearing Course (ACWC). In this study aims to determine the effect of variations in mixing temperature and compaction on the mixture ACWC hot asphalt using broken stone Asem Jaran Distric Banyuates Sampang. Temperature variations used are 160/1460C, 170/1560C, 180/1660C ,  190/1760C  and  200/1860C  with asphalt content 5,2%, 5,7% dan 6,2%. The test uses the Marshall test method by looking for the charcteristic values of Marshall. Based on the results of testing in the laboratory, it was found an increase in the value of Marshall characteristics from variations in temperature 160/1460C to 170/1560C temperature variations and to decrease the test result of Marshall characteristics values at a temperature variation of 180/1660C ,  190/1760C and 200/1860C so that it was concluded that the use of mixing temperature and optimum compaction at a temperature variation of 170/1560C. Keywords: Temperature, Temperature Variation, Marshall Test, Asphalt concrete Wearing Course (ACWC).

The rapid development of road infrastructure increases the need for materials to be used, including the use of aggregates. This study aims to examine the use of aggregate from the Sewan River in Sarmi Regency as an asphalt mixture. In this study by conducting several tests such as checking the characteristics of course (stone), fine (sand), filler and asphalt characteristics. After that, a mixture of asphalt composition (AC-WC) was made and then the Marshall test was carried out to obtain the properties of the mixture. The results of testing the composition of the AC-WC mixture obtained the composition of the mixture for the optimum asphalt content of 7.50%, coarse aggregate 36.75%, fine aggregate 50.00%, and filler 5.75%. This shows that the aggregate characteristics of the Sewan river for the AC-WC mixture with the conventional Marshall method that meet the 2018 General Specifications of Highways are stability (Asphalt content 4.00%-11.00%), Flow (Asphalt content 4.00%-11 0.00%), VIM (asphalt content 4.00%-7.50%), VMA (asphalt content 5.75%-11.00%) and VFB (asphalt content 5.75%-11.00%). As for the Marshall Immersion test, the remaining Marshall stability value is 95.15%.

The gross volume density of mix asphalt material compacted specimen is a crucial indicator in the design of asphalt mixture and quality control of asphalt pavement, and it directly determines the asphalt aggregate ratio and the degree of compaction. It has a great practical significance to distinguish and choose the test method of gross volume density correctly. The specific aspects of the methods to determine gross volume density have been controversial. A new method named brush wax method is put forward for these issues. The density, priority, VMA and compactness of asphalt mixture were measured by different methods in the tests. By comparison of the new method and the other methods, the main technical indexes of asphalt mixture obtained by the brush wax method are the only one which greatly satisfies the technical requirements.

Due to the rapid growth of traffic, serious overload problems and so on, there are severe early damages on some of the highways, and affected by cold weather and water, the highways are lack of timely, quick fixes. Epoxy emulsified asphalt can be constructed in cold damp conditions, it can improve traffic conditions and extend the life of the old road and so on[1]. Given that there aren’t any relatively mature design methods at home and abroad yet, the paper is based on modified Marshall test method and studies the Epoxy emulsified asphalt mixture design method and proposes again modified Marshall test design methods.

Modifying asphalt aims to improve the performance of the asphalt pavement construction as indicated by increased resistance to permanent deformation and fatigue crack. Asbuton Semi Extraction is one of the materials that can be used for asphalt modification. The addition of Asbuton semi-extraction increases the value of Bitumen Stability Modulus, resistance to permanent deformation and can also increase the asphalt PG value, but require a higher temperature for mixing and compaction. The high temperatures for the manufacture of asphalt mixtures require considerable energy at a more expensive cost and will result in large emissions. The asphalt mixing technology currently being developed is Asphalt Warm Mix, that is asphalt mixture with mixing temperature below 1500°C. One method is to use zeolite additives. The asphalt mixture with the addition of synthetic zeolite can be prepared by mixing and compaction temperatures lower than 30°C of the hot mixture. From the Marshall test, it is known that zeolite addition of 0.3% of the total weight of the mixture gives the characteristic values of the asphalt mixture which still meets the requirements of the specification used. Increased zeolite levels minimize the value of mixed resistance to the immersion indicated by the IRS Marshall value.

Design of ACM life cycle is defined with respect to traffic load acting on the pavement and road class for a period of about 20 years. In practice, reconstruction is usually pending until the end of the life cycle after which the reconstruction takes place and the original materials are replaced by new materials. Life cycle of the pavement construction in road structure is significantly longer than that of the ACM; it is therefore necessary to consider ACM from a long term viewpoint, that is, exceeding their life expectancy. This paper describes a methodology which consists of analytical calculations, experimental measurements, and optimization of the ACM life cycle with the use of a rehabilitation action to provide new physical properties of pavement surfacing in different periods of the original life cycle. The aim is to attain maximal economic effectiveness, by minimizing financial costs for rehabilitation and maintenance and economic costs of road user. Presented method allows deriving optimal life cycle from various rehabilitation alternatives for particular ACM with the fact that all the necessary parameters are derived from specific experimental measurements and calculations. The method is applicable to all types of ACM materials; however, for each material, it is necessary to carry out the necessary measurements and tests. The article describes the methodology and case study results for a particular type of ACM material.
