The study was aimed to check the effect of eco-friendly antimicrobial finish on 100% polyesterand 50/50 cotton/polyester woven fabrics. The leaves’ extract of Butea monosperma was used as an eco-friendly antimicrobial finish. The fabric was first desized, scoured, bleached and washed then antimicrobialfinish was applied by using pad dry cure method. The aesthetic, comfort and mechanical fabrics propertieswere checked before and after applying antimicrobial finish. Under aesthetic property stiffness andsmoothness appearance was checked, under comfort related property absorbency and air permeability waschecked and under mechanical property tear and tensile strength was checked. The antimicrobial finishwas checked by using ASTEM E2149 Shake Flask method. The AATCC and ISO standard testing methodswere used for checking fabric properties. One way ANOVA statistical test was applied for analysis ofresults. Antimicrobial finish has increased aesthetic (stiffness, smoothness appearance), comfort (absorbency,air permeability) and mechanical (tensile and tear strengths) properties of polyester and cotton/polyesterfabrics. The antimicrobial finish was effective on both 100% polyester and 50/50 cotton/polyester fabricsup to 25 washes. This study is beneficial to medical industry, paramedical staff, sports wears, homefurnishing as well as common people.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the 100 percent pure cotton and 50:50 cotton and regenerated fibers (tencel, modal, bamboo, viscose) blends. The blends of regenerated fibers with cotton are studied so as to replace 100 percent cotton fabrics with the cotton blends as cotton cannot fulfill the demand of clothing due to the increasing population. Design/methodology/approach In order to conduct this study, cotton, as natural cellulose fiber, was used. Regenerated fibers include viscose, tencel, modal and bamboo. Five yarn samples of Ne 30/1 of 100 percent cotton and blends (50:50) of cotton with tencel, modal, bamboo and viscose fibers were produced. The blending was done in the Blow-room, and yarn samples were produced by employing the ring spinning technique. Plain woven fabrics samples with Ends (76) and Picks (68) per inch of 120 gsm were prepared. The fabric samples were tested for mechanical (warp and weft tensile and tear strengths) and comfort properties (air permeability, moisture management and thermal resistance). Findings Cotton:tencel fabric has the excellent mechanical (tensile and tear strength) as well as comfort properties (air permeability, moisture management and thermal resistance). It means that the most suitable blend that cotton can make with the regenerated fibers is the tencel. Therefore, to have more comfortable fabrics, the fabrics which are being made by 100 percent cotton can be replaced with the cotton:tencel. Originality/value To the authors’ information, no study has been reported in which all the regenerated fibers blended with cotton were studied. Hence, the aim of this work is to study the mechanical and comfort properties of the regenerated fibers (modal, tencel, viscose and bamboo) blended with cotton. The blends of cotton with regenerated fibers might replace 100 percent cotton in clothing applications as cotton cannot fulfill the increasing demanding of clothing.

The objectives of this particular research were testing covering materials for models and making Thai childrens standard sized models. The covering materials chosen for the models were hand-woven cotton fabrics from four sources. The sub materials were non-woven pressed fabrics. Data were statistically analyzed in terms of percentage, mean, standard deviation, and One way ANOVA. In relation to the covering materials, it was found that the differences of the tensile strength on Warp and Weft, and the static puncture test on hand-woven fabrics from different sources both before and after needle stitching were statistically significant at the level of .05. Concerning the developed prototypes of the fiber-glass models covered with material from Narathiwat Province which were for the 5-year, 7-year and 9-year old models, the satisfaction with the use of all three was an average of 2.40, or very good.

This study was designed to explore the relationship between sunlight exposure and the mechanical properties of paragliding fabrics which have different colors, densities, yarn counts, and coating materials. This study exposed 5 different colors of paragliding fabrics (red, turquoise, dark blue, orange, and white) to intense sunlight for 150 hours during the summer from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for 5 days a week for 5 weeks. Before and after the UV radiation aging process, the air permeability, tensile strength, tear strength, and bursting strength tests were performed. Test results were also evaluated using statistical methods. According to the results, the fading of the turquoise fabric was found to be the highest among the studied fabrics. It was determined that there is a significant decrease in the mechanical properties of the fabrics after sunlight exposure. After aging, the fabrics become considerably weaker in the case of mechanical properties due to the degradation in both the dyestuff and macromolecular structure of the fiber

Purpose. The objective of this study was to evaluate the marginal fit and the flexural resistance of nickel-chromium frameworks welded by different techniques, gas-torch, laser, and tungsten inert gas (TIG), compared with that of frameworks made via one-piece casting. Methods. To evaluate the marginal fit, a master model was fabricated simulating four implants. Transfers and replicas were used to transfer the positions of the implants to the model, using a silicone matrix. The bars were waxed up and casted. Three assessments of misfit were performed for each implant using a stereomicroscope before and after welding in two predetermined regions, totaling six readings for each implant. To evaluate the flexural resistance, one group was made casting the specimens in one piece. Other 3 groups using gas-torch, laser, and TIG welding techniques were made after sectioned transversally. The data showed normal distribution and two-way ANOVA for marginal fit and one-way ANOVA for flexural resistance, and Tukey’s posttest (α=0.05) was performed. Results. For the marginal fit, the three welding methods presented similar results and were different from one-piece casting. For the flexural resistance, significant differences were observed among the studied groups (p<0.001), and the one-piece group presented higher resistance compared to the three welding techniques. Conclusions. Within the limits of this study, the three welding techniques yielded similar misfit results, and the laser and TIG techniques presented similar flexural resistance but lower than gas-torch and one-piece casting.

Abstract Seat upholstery fabrics for vehicles are crucial products as technical textiles in motor vehicles make up approximately 15% of the total manufactured technical textiles worldwide and more than 50% of the production belongs to the woven fabrics because of their appropriate properties for this application. The current work presents the comfort-related properties of the woven fabrics designed to be used in automotive seat upholstery. For this aim, double-layered woven fabrics were produced with four different process variables such as bottom layer pattern, number of interlacing warps in a unit report, number of interlacing picks per top warp, and number of weft skips by using Taguchi experimental design. Besides handle related properties, such as circular bending rigidity, surface roughness properties, and thermo physiological comfort related properties that include air permeability, thermal resistance, and moisture management properties were measured and analyzed based on Taguchi experimental analysis.

This study aims to extract dye and alginate from seaweed Sargassum sp. as a dye paste in the coloring of Bima woven fabric. The concentration of sodium alginate used was 0%; 1%; 3% and 5%. The results showed that the absorbance value of the dye extract from seaweed Sargassum sp at maximum λ = 203 nm obtained A = 3.899. The effect of variations in the concentration of sodium alginate in the dye paste was determined by comparing the FTIR absorption pattern of Bima woven fabrics. Based on the FTIR absorption pattern data, it was found that a mixture of dye and sodium alginate of 3% had a stronger intensity, namely the wave numbers 3448.72 cm-1 and 1635 cm-1; 2900.94 cm-1; 2337.72 cm-1; 1381.03 cm-1 and 1064.71 cm-1. The results of the morphological analysis showed significant differences in surface structure on Bima woven fabrics before and after the dyeing process.

This research aims to develop the environmental recreation camp activity for youth in Roi-Et province of Thailand, to compare environmental knowledge, environmental attitudes before and after participating in the camp, as will as their participating in Environment Recreation camp activities during and after participating in the camp of youths with different gender and domicile, and to study the relationship between environmental knowledge, environmental attitudes and participation in environmental recreation camp activities. The data were collected though a survey with 40 youths from Phanom Phrai Wittayakarn School, Phanom Phrai District, Roi-Et Province. The research instruments was the manuals questionnaire measuring environmental knowledge, environmental attitudes and participation in environmental recreation camp activity. The data were analysed by using descriptive statistic and hypothesis testing by using t-test, One-way MANCOVA, One-way ANOVA and Correlation analysis. The results of this research indicated as below Environment Recreation Camp Activities for Youth in Roi-Et Province had effectively is 85.17/83.44 and an effectiveness index is 0.6117. After participating in environment recreation camp activities, youths had higher environmental knowledge and environmental attitudes than before participating in the camp. After participating in environment recreation camp activities, youth had higher participation in environment recreation camp activities than during participating in camp. The sample youths with different gender and domicile had no different environmental knowledge, environmental attitudes, and environmental participation. Environmental knowledge, environmental attitudes, and participation in environmental recreation camp activities were not correlated.

PurposeThe purpose of this research was to find the influence of sublimation process on air permeability and water absorption dynamics of knitted and woven polyester-based fabrics.Design/methodology/approachThree different sublimation designs were prepared and applied (keeping the same sublimation parameters) for eight variants of knitted and four variants of woven polyester-based fabrics. Air permeability and water absorption dynamics during 180s period was measured and compared before and after the sublimation process.FindingsAccording to the obtained results, high temperature and pressure applied in sublimation process have influence on the porosity and air permeability of knitted fabrics; however, the influence on water absorption dynamics is minimal. Sublimation design dos not have any influence on the mentioned properties.Originality/valueThe obtained results of the sublimation process influence on air permeability and water absorption dynamics of knitted and woven polyester-based fabrics will help to understand how sublimation process can affect comfort properties of textile fabrics.

AbstractThis study investigates physicochemical impact of ultrasonic irradiations on surface topography of woven fabrics. In a simultaneous in-situ sonochemical method, the synthesis and coating of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) on woven textiles were successfully achieved. Different instruments i.e. Alambeta, moisture management tester, air permeability tester and permetester were utilised during experimentation for thermal evaluation, moisture transportation and air permeation. The results regarding thermophysiological comfort of ZnO coated fabrics were evaluated on the basis of thickness and ZnO NPs coated amount on fabrics. In addition, the achieved results depict the impact of sonication (pressure gradient) on surface roughness of cotton and polyester. The coating of ZnO NPs on fabrics, crystal phase identification, surface topography and fluctuations in surface roughness were estimated by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), X-ray Diffractometry (XRD), ultrahigh-resolution scanning electron microscopy (UHR-SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). Moreover, thermophysiological properties i.e. thermal conductivity, absolute evaporative resistance, thermal absorptivity, air permeability, overall moisture management capacity and relative water vapour permeability of untreated and ZnO treated samples were evaluated by standard test methods.
