Recently, the water temperature significantly exceeded the climatic norms for the studied region of Ukraine. Water is heated to 30ºC with a decrease in the concentration of dissolved oxygen in shallow water. In this connection, the change in the hormone content in the blood plasma of carp, roach, rudd, perch and ruff in response to these factors has been studied. Most of the fish species studied in June respond by increasing the cortisol content in the blood by 1.2–3.3 times to an increase in water temperature. Fish quite successfully adapts after a month's stay in conditions of high water temperature to 31ºC, and the level of cortisol is reduced. The content of thyroid hormones in the blood of the rudd, roach and ruff is quite high and after a month of adaptation to the existing factors. This indicates an increased activity in their metabolic processes. The content of somatotropin and prolactin in the blood of the studied fish species decreases 2.4–5.0 and 1.9–7.7 times, respectively, in response to an increase in temperature and a decrease in the oxygen concentration in water. This should lead to a decrease in the rate of fish growth and change in the activity of osmotic exchange. However, hormonal reactions are species-specific in nature to the existing factors. Perch and roach are less plastic to increase water temperature. Carp most favorably tolerates an increase in water temperature and a decrease in oxygen concentration.

AbstractFish that perform paternal care may increase their fitness by choosing nest sites that enhance survival and development of embryos. We studied nest-site choice with respect to dissolved oxygen concentration and water temperature in males of the three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus), a small fish species with exclusive male parental care that usually breeds in the littoral zone of freshwaters of the Northern hemisphere. Fathers oxygenate the embryos by fanning movements of their pectoral fins. We expected choice for conditions at potential nest sites that would benefit offspring development, i.e., higher temperature and higher dissolved oxygen concentration. In the laboratory, we offered males a choice between two potential nest sites that differed in dissolved oxygen concentration or water temperature. Males preferred to build a nest at sites with a higher dissolved oxygen level or higher temperature and thus chose sites that would promote embryo development.


<i>Abstract</i> .—In recreational fisheries, catch and release is widespread and practiced under the assumption that released fish survive the capture event unharmed. To improve understanding about the lethal impacts of catch-and-release recreational angling, a quantitative meta-analysis of the literature on hooking mortality and its determinants was conducted focusing on freshwater fishes. Studies were initially selected based on the occurrence of the study species in European recreational fisheries. Because original studies from European freshwater or diadromous fish species were rare, studies from the same genus as native European species were also included in the meta-analysis. Mean hooking mortality ± SE across all species was 15.9 ± 1.3% (<i>n </i> = 252 hooking mortality estimates in <i>n </i> = 107 studies), with a median of 7.8% and a range from 0% to 88.5%. The distribution of hooking mortality estimates was highly skewed towards low values; about 60% of all hooking mortality values were below 10%. Average hooking mortality varied between fish families and was highest for Percidae (mean ± SE, 19.9 ± 5.3%) followed by Salmonidae (15.9 ± 1.4%), Esocidae (14.9 ± 7.0%), and Cyprinidae (5.7 ± 1.6%). Hooking mortality was positively related to water temperature and was significantly higher for natural baits and barbed hooks than for artificial baits and barbless hooks. Size of fish and type of hook were unrelated to the level of hooking mortality. To minimize hooking mortality on European fish species, we recommend the use of barbless hooks and artificial baits and we suggest avoiding catch and release of fish during high water temperatures. Further research on the impacts of catch and release on a number of European fishes is recommended because of the limited coverage of species-specific information in the contemporary literature.

Ikan baung (Hemibagrus nemurus) merupakan salah satu ikan asli yang terdapat di Indonesia. Ikan ini memiliki harga lebih tinggi dibandingkan beberapa jenis ikan lainnya yang telah populer di kalangan konsumen. Saat ini, ikan ini sedang pada program domestikasi dimana informasi mengenai lokasi yang sesuai untuk pemeliharaan ikan baung belum banyak dipelajari. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pertumbuhan benih ikan baung pada dua lokasi pemeliharaan dengan ketinggian yang berbeda. Penelitian dilakukan pada lokasi dengan ketinggian rendah (< 200 m dpl) di daerah Cijengkol dan lokasi dengan ketinggian sedang (200-400 m dpl) di daerah Maleber, Jawa Barat. Benih ikan baung hasil domestikasi (bobot: 21,62 ± 0,57 g) ditebar pada tiga buah jaring masing-masing berukuran 2 m x 2 m x 1 m dengan padat tebar 15 ekor/m3 di kolam berukuran 40 m x 20 m yang terletak pada masing-masing lokasi pengujian. Ikan diberi makan dengan pakan komersial (30% protein) sebanyak 5% biomassa per hari dengan frekuensi pemberian pakan dua kali sehari selama 180 hari masa pemeliharaan. Kualitas air yang diamati meliputi suhu, oksigen terlarut, dan pH. Parameter yang diukur yaitu pertambahan panjang, pertambahan bobot, laju pertumbuhan spesifik, rata-rata pertumbuhan harian, pertambahan biomassa, rasio konversi pakan, dan sintasan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa benih ikan baung yang dipelihara pada ketinggian < 200 m dpl menunjukkan pertambahan bobot dan biomassa yang lebih baik (30,93 ± 2,29 g dan 7,44 ± 0,79 kg) dibandingkan jika dipelihara pada ketinggian 200-400 m dpl (22,32 ± 1,26 g dan 5,97 ± 0,65 kg) (P<0,05). Rasio konversi pakan pada ikan baung yang dipelihara pada dataran rendah lebih rendah (2,37) dibandingkan jika dipelihara pada dataran sedang (2,68). Suhu air pada ketinggian < 200 m dpl lebih tinggi dibandingkan pada ketinggian 200-400 m dpl (P<0,05). Benih ikan baung tumbuh lebih optimal jika dipelihara di daerah dataran rendah, karena pada daerah tersebut memiliki suhu lebih tinggi yang dapat memengaruhi laju pertumbuhan.Asian redtail catfish (Hemibagrus nemurus) is one of Indonesia’s native fish species. This species has a higher commercial value compared to some other fish species already popular among consumers. The fish is currently under a domestication program which information regarding the suitable rearing location has yet to be established. This research was aimed to study the growth of Asian redtail catfish fingerlings reared in two different-altitude locations. The evaluate was conducted at low-altitude location (< 200 m above sea level) in Cijengkol area and mid-altitude location (200-400 m above sea level) in Maleber area, West Java. In each location, the fingerlings of domesticated Asian redtail catfish (weight: 21.62 ± 0.57 g) were stocked in three net cages sized 2 m x 2 m x 1 m in a pond (40 m x 20 m) with a stocking density of 15 fish/m3 per net cage. The fingerlings were fed with commercial feed (30% protein) of 5% fish biomass per day with feeding frequency twice a day for the period of 180 days. The water quality parameters observed were temperature, dissolved oxygen, and pH. The measured experimental parameters were length gain, weight gain, specific growth rate, average daily growth, biomass gain, feed conversion ratio, and survival rate. The results showed that the fish reared at <200 m above sea level had better weight and biomass gains (30.93 ± 2.29 g and 7.44 ± 0.79 kg) than that of the fish reared at 200-400 m above sea level (22.32 ± 1.26 g and 5.97 ± 0.65 kg) (P<0.05). The feed conversion ratio of fingerlings reared at the low-altitude location was lower (2.37) than those of the mid-altitude location (2.68).The water temperature at < 200 m above sea level was significantly higher than that of 200-400 m above sea level (P<0.05). The growth of Asian redtail catfish fingerlings is more optimal in lowland areas due to higher water temperature accelerating the fish growth rate.

Abstract The primary objective of this study was to investigate the seasonal fish and crustacean variations concerning taxonomic composition, species richness, and diversity in sandy beach habitat. For this purpose, we investigated the Sonmiani Hor lagoon area during four distinct seasons, i.e., northeast (NE) monsoon, pre-monsoon, south-west (SW) monsoon, and post-monsoon for one year. During each haul, the net was pulled about 100m along the beach in 0.5m depth. The results showed a strong linear correlation between the diversity index and equitability in fishes (r = 0.978). The diversity index was strong negatively correlated with the abundance and biomass (r = -0.978, -0.972, respectively). The physical attributes like sea surface water temperature and salinity showed a strong negative effect on species assemblages (r = -0.981 and -0.943, respectively). The mean air and water temperature illustrated approximately 3°C difference during NE and pre-monsoon seasons. However, salinity, pH, and electrical conductivity did not show any significant seasonal variabilities. Under the ecological indices, the fish species displayed higher diversity (H’ = 3.19) during SW monsoon, whereas the lowest diversity was observed during pre-monsoon (H’ = 1.58). The equitability and species richness, however, remained more noticeable during SW monsoon (J’ = 0.81). The total number of individuals of fish and crustaceans reached 4799 with 3813 fish individuals and 986 individuals of crustaceans. A total of 27 families of fish while five crustacean families comprising of 30 genera and 38 fish species while ten genera and 17 species of crustaceans were recorded. Liza subviridis displayed the highest abundance among the sampled fish species. In conclusion, fish species constituted a significant part of the coastal fauna in the study area. The seasonal variations displayed distinct variations in fish species composition and diversity.

The article provides information about the features of spring feeding of sterlet in the spawning grounds of the middle course of the Northern Dvina river in may 2019. The main and secondary groups of forage objects in the diet of this species of sturgeon are characterized. The article considers the variability of the sterlet food composition with an increase in the size of fish from 30 to 60 cm. In the process of fish growth in the diet of the Severodvinsk sterlet, the main components in terms of occurrence and mass in all size groups are the larvae of Brooks and chironomids. A minor occurrence was the larvae of midges, biting midges, stoneflies, mayflies and small clams. To random and seasonal food are the larvae of water bugs, butterflies, flies, beetles and eggs of other fish. The feeding intensity of the smaller sterlet (30–40 cm) was significantly higher than that of the fish in the size groups 40–50 and 50–60 cm. Fundamental changes in the diet of the Severodvinsk sterlet for the main food objects for more than sixty years of observations have not been established. During periods of high water content of the Northern Dvina due to seasonal changes in the structure of benthic communities, the value of Brooks in the diet of sterlet increases and the proportion of chironomids decreases.

Background: The fishes of family Gobiidae are one of the least studied fishes, especially for otolith structure. The otoliths were possess species specific features. Hence, traits of sagittal otolith of gobid species studied. Methods: Five gobid species Odontamblyopus roseus (Valenciennes, 1837), Trypauchen vagina (Bloch and Schneider, 1801), Glossogobius giuris (Hamilton, 1822), Parachaeturichthys polynema (Bleeker, 1853) and Boleophthalmus dussumieri (Valenciennes, 1837) were investigated by three methods including morphological, shape indices and step wise discriminant function analysis (SDFA). Result: Interrelationship between shape indices investigated, at 95% level of confidence (P less than 0.05), revealed that perimeter of P. polynema and area of T. vagina have isometric growth with their length (b = 3.0071, 2.90, respectively) and otolith area of B. dussumieri have positive allometric growth (b = 4.23077). SDFA, based on otolith morphometry, discriminated species up with 97.18% accuracy. Hence, the results of present investigation can be used for discrimination of the species and as a tool in predicting fish size from the otoliths and in calculating the biomass of these less studied fish species.

In this study we verified data of water temperatures collected by CORSAN-RS from 1996 to 2004 in several cities of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil, and analyzed the possibility of raising the most cultivated fish species in Brazil. The water temperature from 1996 to 2004 was 16 to 28ºC in summer, 17 to 23ºC in fall, 14 to 17ºC (down to 9ºC in the coldest months) in winter and 14 to 21ºC in spring. Native species of this state, such as silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen), traíra (Hoplias malabaricus), dorado (Salminus brasiliensis), pintado (Pimelodus maculatus), as well as carps (family Cyprinidae), are resistant to the low winter temperatures. These species have a lower growth rate in coldest months (winter/spring) but a good development in warmer months (summer/fall), reaching a satisfactory performance throughout the year. In the periods of more intense cold, mortality of some introduced species, such as surubim from Amazon Basin (Pseudoplatystoma sp.), pirapitinga (Piaractus brachypomus), pirarucu (Arapaimas gigas), pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus), tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) and Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) may occur. In addition, as most tropical species have a thermal range for growth and reproduction between 20 to 28ºC, some species may have poor development even in fall. Therefore, water temperature in this state should be considered in the choice of fish species to be cultivated.

Tarahara Fish Farm includes 37 large ponds as a fish super zone. Physicochemical parameters viz., air and water temperature, pH, DO, BOD, CO2, Cl-, TA and TH of these ponds were studied for two years (Nov. 2008 to Oct. 2010). The air temperature had positive and significant correlation with water temperature (r=0.893, P<0.01) but inverse and significant correlation with DO (r = - 0.669 P<0.05) and TH (r = - 0.673, P<0.05). Both air and water temperature showed a decreasing trend during the winter months of November to January and again September to October in both years. Similarly, positive and significant correlation showed by pH with DO (r =0.660, P<0.05) and BOD (r =0.846, P<0.05); by free CO2 with DO (r=0.854, P<0.01), chloride (r=0.648, P<0.05) and TA (r=0.616, P<0.05); by DO with TA (r =0.715, P<0.01) and chloride (r =0.625, P<0.05) and by TH with TA (r= 0.592, P<0.05) but inverse and significant correlation showed by pH with water temperature (r =-0.671, P<0.05); by free CO2 with BOD (r=-0.627, P<0.05) and by DO with BOD (r = -0.810, P <0.01). The water quality parameters were within suitable range for the fish growth and breeding with small fluctuations in different months during the first and second years. Physico-chemical parameters significantly (P<0.01; 0.05) differed between different months. However, no mass mortality of fish was recorded from this site. So, the area selected as fish super zone is fruitful to meet the expected production level of fishes and fish seeds in peripheral areas.

Abstract The thyroid hormones (THs) play an important role in the regulation of the rate of metabolism, affect the growth and function of different systems in the organism. The aim of this study was to assess serum concentration of total triiodothyronine (T3), total thyroxine (T4) as well as T3/T4 ratio in serum from healthy fresh water fish from Salmonidae, Acipenseridae, Cyprinidae, and Clariidae families to determine species-specific reference intervals. Mean concentrations of T3 and T4 levels varied significantly among fish. Finally, the test results show clear differences in the serum concentration of the T3 and T4 and give new insight into the thyroid hormones reference values in some commercial fresh water fish species.

Water quality in the process of ornamental fish cultivation plays an important role in creating an environment of life that is in accordance with the needs of ornamental fish. Acidity (pH) and water temperature are one of the important factors of ornamental fish growth. The purpose of this study is to describe how the design system builds arduino-based humidity and pH temperature measuring instruments. Review the validity of moisture temperature and water pH. Monitor the humidity temperature and pH of ornamental fish aquarium water to know the results of the same data with liturgy. This research is a research and development research, conducted in the Laboratory of Physics Education Study FKIP Jember University. The research time was carried out for four months. The samples used in this study were ornamental carp. Based on the analysis of data obtained, it can be concluded that, (1) The work of pH, temperature, and spouting systems based on Arduino Uno is made with sen0161-V2, DS18B20 and DHT-11 sensors and data appearance media namely LCD. (2) Rakaian system is then calibrated to state that the system can be used properly. Calibration includes Arduino-based pH, temperature and Humidity sensor calibration as well as LCD testing. (3) The data that has been found by the researcher and the data in the literature has a match.   Keywords: water quality, Acidity (pH), water temperature, arduino-based.
