The study was conducted at the fish farm of the Department of Fish Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural Technology and Fish Sciences, Al-Neelain University. The purpose of the study is to compare the growth performance of different local strains of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) to provide the necessary information for conducting research leading to genetic improvement of the locally farmed Nile tilapia. Fish fry used in the study were spawned by brooders collected from, Jebel Aulia Dam Reservoir (White Nile strain A) , Sennar Dam Reservoir (Sennar strain B), Lake Nubia (Halfa strain C) and khashm elgirba reservoier( Khashm elgirba strain D). The study was conducted for six weeks in twelve happas, each stocked with 30 fry in three replicates for each strain, averaging 5 g. Fish were fed by diet with a protein level of 35%. Statistical analysis showed Sennar strain was the best growth rate with a percent weight gain of 1529%, followed by white nile strain with a percent weight gain of 1114%, followed by khashm elgerba strain with a percent weight gain of 993% and finally Halfa strain with a percent weight gain of 829%. Daily Growth Rate gain was 0.9g/day for sennar strain, followed by other strain with no significant(≥0.05). Food Conversion Ratios (FCR) were best in sennar and white nile strain ,survival rate with the same no significant(≥0.05) between treatments. finally results indicated that there is significant( ≤ 0.05) between treatments so sennar and white nile strains is better than two strains in this study.

The study was conducted to determine the suitability of Moringa olifera seed cake as a protein source for Oreochromis niloticus fry. It is concluded that Moringa olifera seed cake can be used as a dietary protein in Nile tilapia fry without significant reduction in growth performance. The body weight gain ranged from 50.91 to 85.17 gm within three weeks. Fry fed a mixture of Moringa olifera seed cake and wheat bran (1:1) had better growth performance than those on wheat bran only.

Aim: Evaluation of the effectiveness of formulated Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) and Moringa oleifera booster on the growth performance of Heterobranchus bidorsalis. Study Design: Data were subjected to statistical analysis using Duncan Multiple Range Statistics and interpretation was done using SPSS Version 22. Place and Duration of Study: The experiment was conducted in the laboratory at the Department of Applied and Environmental Biology, Rivers State University, Nigeria for a period of 12 weeks (3 months), between November, 2016 – March, 2017. Methodology: Total of 240 Heterobranchus bidorsalis fingerlings with an initial mean weight (1.61±0.23 g) and length (5.13±0.26 cm) were acclimated for one week. After acclimation, the fishes were fed twice daily (9am and 6pm) with 10% of their body weight after coating 2 ml/1 kg of the commercial feed with their individual growth booster syrup and allowed to air-dry for about 20 minutes. Heterobranchus bidorsalis fingerlings were scooped for the measurements exercise at one week interval after which they were returned to their various tanks. Results: The result of this study recorded the experimental diets with optimum growth and survivability. From the result, it was deduced that, Commercial feed coated with watermelon syrup booster recorded the best performance in the growth variables of mean weight (26.36 ±3.19 g), mean length (13.61±1.35 cm), mean weight gain (24.64±3.00 g), mean length gain (8.38±1.35 cm), relative weight gain (25.36±3.19) while Commercial feed coated with commercial syrup booster (CbCf) recorded the best performance in growth variables of Daily Growth Rate (15.15±0.55) and Specific Growth Rate (2.69±0.03%) against Moring growth booster and commercial feed (control). However, there was less mortality as the fishes in different treatment tanks survived above 90%. Conclusion: It could be summarized that Commercial feed coated with watermelon syrup booster (WbCf) had the best growth performance against the control groups although their values were not significantly impacted (p>0.05) when compared with other experimental diets.

<p class="Pa3"><strong>ABSTRACT </strong></p><p> </p><p class="Pa5">This research aimed to evaluate the supplementation of fermented <em>Lemna </em>sp. meal (FLM) in the artificial diet on the growth rate of Nile tilapia <em>Oreochromis niloticus</em>. The research design used was complete randomized design consisting of four treatments; A (0% FLM), B (20% FLM), C (30% FLM), and D (40% FLM) in triplicates. The parameters observed were the nutritional composition of LFM, daily growth rate (DGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), survival rate (SR), and water quality. Fermentation with Effective Microorganism 4 (EM4) has increased crude protein and crude lipid of FLM respectively 5.60% and 5.76%. However it decreased the crude fiber of FLM up to 15.27%. The result suggested that supplementation of FLM 0–40% in the artificial diet could give DGR 0.81–1.20%, FCR 2.48–2.97; and SR 72%–84% in Nile tilapia. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) terdiri atas empat perlakuan, yaitu A (0% TLF), B (20% TLF), C (30% TLF), dan D (40% TLF) dengan masing-masing tiga ulangan. Parameter yang diamati dalam penelitian antara lain nilai nutrisi TLF, laju pertumbuhan harian (LPH) ikan nila, rasio konversi pakan (RKP), sintasan (SR), dan kualitas air. Fermentasi dengan <em>Effective Microorganism </em>4 (EM4) meningkatkan protein kasar dan lemak kasar TLF sebesar masing-masing 5,60% dan 6,76%, akan tetapi menurunkan serat kasar hingga 15,27%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian TLF 0–40% dalam pakan komersial menghasilkan LPH 0,81–1,20%; RKP 2,48– 2,97; dan SR 72%–84%. The effect of dietary fluted pumpkin extract on growth, body composition and haematological profile was investigated in Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus. Fingerlings of about 5.23-5.44 g were fed diets supplemented with four concentrations ((2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 gkg−1) of fluted pumpkin extract powder for eight weeks. Fish fed supplemented diets showed significantly improved growth performance and feed utilization over the control (0 gkg−1 fluted pumpkin extract powder) treatment. The highest specific growth rate (0.79±0.10% per day) and best food conversion ratio (0.98±0.14) were obtained in fish fed 2.5 gkg−1 fluted pumpkin extract powder diet. No differences occurred in fish carcass moisture, protein or crude lipid content among the treatments (p>0.05). Similarly no differences occurred in white blood cells among the treatments (p>0.05) but there were greater improvement in the white blood cells of fish fed on dietary fluted pumpkin extract powder compared to the fish fed the control diet. The results suggest that dietary supplementation with fluted pumpkin extract powder improved growth rate, feed utilization, white blood cells and survival of Nile tilapia O. niloticus fingerlings.

AbstractThis study aimed to determine the effects of supplementing the diet of adult Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus with phosphatidylcholine (PC) on growth performance, body composition, fatty acid composition and gene expression. Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia fish with an initial body weight of 83·1 (sd 2·9) g were divided into six groups. Each group was hand-fed a semi-purified diet containing 1·7 (control diet), 4·0, 6·5, 11·5, 21·3 or 41·0 g PC/kg diet for 68 d. Supplemental PC improved the feed efficiency rate, which was highest in the 11·5 g PC/kg diet. Weight gain and specific growth rate were unaffected. Dietary PC increased PC content in the liver and decreased crude fat content in the liver, viscera and body. SFA and MUFA increased and PUFA decreased in muscle with increasing dietary PC. Cytoplasmic phospholipase A2 and secreted phospholipase A2 mRNA expression were up-regulated in the brain and heart in PC-supplemented fish. PC reduced fatty acid synthase mRNA expression in the liver and visceral tissue but increased expression in muscle. Hormone-sensitive lipase and lipoprotein lipase expression increased in the liver with increasing dietary PC. Growth hormone mRNA expression was reduced in the brain and insulin-like growth factor-1 mRNA expression in liver reduced with PC above 6·5 g/kg. Our results demonstrate that dietary supplementation with PC improves feed efficiency and reduces liver fat in adult Nile tilapia, without increasing weight gain, representing a novel dietary approach to reduce feed requirements and improve the health of Nile tilapia.

The present study assessed the effects of incorporating sea clam (Senilia senilis)meat mealas a partial replacement for fishmeal on the growth performance, survival and whole-body composition of Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus fry(0.2 g).Three iso-proteins (26%) and iso-caloric (11%) diets where fishmeal was substituted withclam meat meal at 0% diet A,10% diet B, and 15% diet C were prepared.The experiment was conductedfor 12 weeks. The stocking density was 15 fish per tank in an isolated system consisting of 9 plastic tanks of 80L each. Each treatment was administered in triplicates, and fish were fed three times per day (09 :00h, 13 :00h, and 17 :00h). The daily ration corresponded to 10% of the fishs live weight during the first month and was reduced to 8% and then 6% for the second and last month of the trial period.The results of this study showed that the incorporation of clam meat meal in the diet of Nile Tilapia fry has benefited growth in fish fed the tested diets. The best growth performance was obtained in the fish fed with diet B containing 10% clam meat meal: 10.57g for absolute mean weight gain 4.75% /d for SGR 0.82 for FCR 2.14 for PER, followed by diet A.Diet C has the lowest growth performance: 8.37g for weight gain,4.44%/d for SGR,0.99 for FCR, and 1.75 for PER. The best survival rate was obtained by diet C (93.33%), followed by diet B (80%), and the lowest by diet A (71.11%). The protein contents of the tested fish were moderately higher than that of the initial fish. No big difference was observed among the tested diets. The ash content is reduced sharply after two months feeding. The lipid content of the tested fish decreasedslightly in comparison to the initial fish. At the end of the study, fish fed with diet B showed the best growth performance among other diets. These results indicatethat clam meat meal can be included up to 15% in the tilapia diet without affecting the nutritional quality of the feed.

This study aimed to determine the effect of providing a combination of natural feed maggots and pellets on the growth performance of Nile Tilapia and to ratio between maggots and pellets that promote growth of Nile Tilapia. The research was conducted from June to August 2020. The research method was using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications with the following treatments: treatment A = 100% pellets, treatment B = 75% pellets and 25% maggots, treatment C = 50% pellets and 50% maggot, treatment D = 25% pellets and 75% maggot, treatment E = 100% maggot. The test fish used Nile Tilapia fingerling with average weighing 4 g / fish with density of 5 fish / container and maintained for 21 days. The containers used in this study were 15 plastic trays with a diameter of 40 cm and a height of 20 cm each with a water capacity of 15 liters. Growth performance data were Weight gain (WG), Specific growth rate (SGR), relative growth rate (SGR), feed convertion rate (FCR) and feed intake (FI). Based on the results of this study, it shows that the use of a combination of pellet and maggot feed as Nile tilapia juvenile has an effect on the growth performance of Nile tilapia so that maggot can be used as an alternative feed that has high nutritional content for tilapia fish cultivation. The treatment that gave the best growth effect on tilapia seeds was found at the dose of a combination of 50% pellet feed + 50% maggot, with Weight gain (5.5±1.1g), SGR (3.7±0.5%), RGR (139.4±53.4) and FCR (1.2±0.2)
