Background: The clinical autopsy is a common term used to help in the identification of person’s clinical conditions and causes of deaths, however, the autopsy plays a vital role in the justice and jurisprudence. Objective: To determine the knowledge, beliefs and understanding of medical students regarding the autopsy Study Design: Descriptive, cross-sectional study Place and Duration of Study: Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women (PUMHSW) Nawabshah (SBA) Sindh Pakistan from 1st March 2021 to 31st August 2021. Methodology: Four hundred and twenty eight female students of 3rd year and 4th year were enrolled. The students were recruited based on random sampling method. Results: There were 221 students between 23 to 24 years followed by 207 students between 20 to 22 years. One hundred and sixty five were attended 3 autopsies. Autopsy is necessary for all unnatural death and the responses were 327 yes and 101 were no. Education of autopsy is mandatory for the career and the responses were 146 yes and 282 were no understanding, videos are helpful for autopsies and the responses were 178 yes and 250 were no. Conclusion: The autopsies and experiences regarding the autopsies was integral part of medical curriculum. The studies of autopsies are helpful to understand the human anatomy and reasons of deaths. The students’ perceptions supported the medical autopsies as important part of curriculum and teaching particular anatomy of human subjects. Key words: Knowledge, Attitude, Perceptions, Autopsy

Background: Globally, 3.1 million newborn deaths occur every year out of these estimated 400,000 neonatal deaths occur in Pakistan. All neonatal deaths 99% take place in poorest region and countries of the world, usually within hours of birth; mostly the cause of neonatal deaths is hypoxia. To access knowledge and practice of SBAs regarding HBB and to access the availability of equipments required for HBB. Methods: Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study on SBAs as trained in HBB. All 46 SBAs trained on HBB working in Labour room eight rural Health centers, four Taluka, One district Head Quarter Health Facilities and thirteen Mlbcs of the district, were included in the sample for study. All 41 SBAs were trained on HBB participated in the study. Results: Mean age of 30 years. Out of total 41 participants 25 were working in B-EmoNC (61%), 3in C-EmoNC (7.3%) and 13 in mid wife laid birth Centre (MLBC) or birth station (31.7%). About 92.7% of participants said that main purpose of HBB training is to decrease the NMR by improving newborn care. Drying of newborn is 82.7%, hand washing is 95.12% and 85.3% of the study participants said that they gave 30-40 breaths per minutes. Cord clamp and pair of ties was accessible to 85% of participants versus 14.3% who reported it's not accessible. Almost one quarter (34.1%) participants have low knowledge and practice. Knowledge and training had significant effect on the overall practices of the skilled birth attendants for skilled birth deliveries and reduce the neonatal deaths (P <0.001). Conclusion: Tools play a vital role for the implication of the knowledge into practices and tools were available almost to every participant. Although few barriers also identified for the less application of the helping hand babies trainings in the community.

Due to a huge crisis extensive to health services many Venezuelan people living with HIV (PLWH) had migrated abroad, including Peru where favorable laws were in place until June 2019. We describe the health status and epidemiological trends of PLWH from Venezuela at an HIV program in Lima. We analyzed baseline and follow-up data of all Venezuelan PLWH enrolled in our HIV program from January 2017 to December 2019. A cross-sectional study in a subsample served to describe ARV adherence and context of migration. Between 2017-2019 our HIV Program registered 398 Venezuelan PLWH, representing 20% of the 2018 annual enrollments; numbers decreased since mid-2019. The median age was 30 years (IQR 26;37) and 90.5% were men. Between 2017 and 2019, the proportion with diagnosis in Peru increased from 14.3% to 60.9%; of AIDS stage at entry, from 8.8% to 27.2%. By December 2019, 182/250 (72.8%) were still in care, and 43 (10.8%) had not started ART. Viral suppression evaluated in 195, was achieved in 71.8%. From 2017 to 2019, migrant PLWH arrived in worsened clinical conditions, with increasing diagnosis in Peru; the flow of migrant PLWH entering care diminished with less favorable laws. Viral suppression rates were suboptimal.

Abstract Objective MicroRNAs are known to regulate 60% of genes at post translational level. MicroRNAs including Micro RNA-29 family play a vital role in cellular activities and have validate role in numerous metabolic disorders inclusive of diabetes mellitus and its complications. While micro RNA profile changes years before the occurrence of disease. This cross-sectional study was conducted in non-diabetic adults of diabetic and non-diabetic parents to explore the early changes in expression of micro RNA-29 family as it can be served as early biomarker of type 2 diabetes in non-diabetic adults. This study was conducted from January 2019 to January 2021. Micro RNA was extracted from plasma of 50 participants and expression was compared through qPCR. While data was analyzed through SPSS version 21.0. Results 29a and 29b had lower expression in participants with family history of DM compared to those having no family history of DM (P < 0.0001). While micro RNA 29c was found to be significantly higher in participants with positive family history of type 2 diabetes as compared to those without family history of diabetes (P = 0.001).

Background: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is characterized for an uncomfortable sensation in legs and an irresistible desire to move them. This disorder has been more recently recognized in patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) and can interfere with the quality of life (QOL). Objectives: The aims of this study are to describe the prevalence of RLS and its severity and influence on the QOL in patients with MG. Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted from May to June 2016 in Recife, Brazil. A sample of 42 patients was interviewed using a sociodemographic questionnaire, MG QOL questionnaire-15 and The RLS Rating Scale. Results: RLS was present in 47.6% of patients and of these 40.5% met moderate to severe RLS criteria. Patients were 45 years on average (SD ± 14.4) and women represented 57.1% of the study population. Among patients with RSL, the quality-of-life scores were worse (p = 0.010) on average. There was no association of RLS with the duration of MG, use of immunosuppressant or clinical conditions that could mimic the occurrence of RLS. Conclusion: RLS is a prevalent condition in patients with MG, and may be severe enough to negatively impact QOL.

Traffic collisions have continuously been ranked amongst the top causes of deaths in Vietnam. In particular, drinking has been recognized as a major factor amplifying the likelihood of traffic collisions in various settings. This study aims to examine the relationship between alcohol use and traffic collisions in the current context of Vietnam. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 413 traffic collisions patients in six health facilities in the Thai Binh Province to investigate the level of alcohol consumption and identify factors influencing alcohol use among these patients. The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption (AUDIT-C) scale was used to determine the problematic drinking behavior of the participants. The percentage of patients having problematic drinking was more than 30%. Being male, having a high household income, and working as farmer/worker were risk factors for alcohol abuse. People causing accidents and patients with a traumatic brain injury had a higher likelihood of drinking alcohol before the accidents. This study highlights the necessity of more stringent laws on reducing drink-driving in Vietnam. In addition, more interventions, especially those utilizing mass media like educational campaign of good behavior on social networks, are necessary to reduce alcohol consumption in targeted populations in order to decrease the prevalence and burden of road injuries.

Abstract Objective: To determine perception of medical students about learning from integrated simulated clinical skills sessions in Respiration and Circulation module of Year 1 undergraduate medical curriculum at Aga Khan University. Subjects & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education, Aga Khan University (AKU) from July 2018 to February 2019. Integrated clinical skills session involves use of a combination of live simulated patient and mechanical simulator to teach clinical skills.  These sessions were conducted in Respiration and Circulation Module of MBBS Year I curriculum after which quantitative data was collected by a questionnaire that assessed usefulness of integrated clinical skills teaching method and confidence gained by students. The responses acquired were assessed on a Likert scale ranging from 1-5, (strongly agree -strongly disagree).  Descriptive analysis was performed. A focused group discussion (FGD) with students and an in-depth interview with a facilitator conducting the clinical skills sessions was arranged. Simple verbatim transcription of FGD recordings and thematic analyses was executed. Results: Quantitative analysis showed that more than 90% of the students believed integrated sessions were effective in acquiring the learning objectives and found them enjoyable and motivating. 80% expressed confidence that they had accomplished learning objectives and felt they have learned practical clinical skills. Qualitative analysis revealed that these sessions enhanced understanding of subject matter and student engagement during sessions. Conclusion: Integrated clinical skills sessions improved student interest, engagement and promoted student confidence. It should be implemented in undergraduate medical teaching curriculum. In the management of the adult dental patient efforts are geared towards the preservation of permanent dentition as it is important for maintaining normal occlusal relationship, play role in aesthesis, speech, influence food habit and nutrition. This hospital based descriptive type of cross sectional study was done at Exodontia Department of Dhaka Dental College and Hospital to identify the factors that contribute in tooth extraction among the respondents. The study was carried out during the month of January to June 2009 and 110 respondents selected purposively. The study showed the majority of the respondents (57.3%) were in the age group of 20-39 years. Their mean age was 36.85.years, SD of age was ±13.85 and age range was 15-85 years. Among the respondents 46.4% were male and 53.6% were female. Dental caries was the leading cause of tooth extractions in 68% cases. It was also observed that post filling complication contributed in 33% cases of extraction. Patient requests due to economic cause in 16% cases, negligence in 11% cases and even distance of the treatment centre from residence reported in 15% cases. The treatment philosophy of the centre played a vital role. Background: E-learning refers to the use of Internet technologies to deliver a broad range of solutions that enhance knowledge and per-formance of learners. This mode of learning can be used by institutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of educational inter-ventions in the face of the social, scientific, and pedagogical challenges. Worldwide, it has gained popularity in the past few decades; however, its use is highly variable among the medical schools of Pakistan. Currently, a very few number of institutions have adopted it officially in their curriculum. Despite this, many students use different E Learning resources to enhance their learning.Objective: To find out about the online resources utilized by the medical students in addition to their traditional medical curriculum to enhance their learning.Method: In this cross-sectional study, 300 participants from Dow Medical College and Jinnah Sindh Medical Universities were included after taking informed consent. A self-administered questionnaire which consists of demographic information, years of study and online resources with their usage details by the students for different subjects of basic and clinical sciences were documented.Results: Almost all the students reported to use some form of eLearning to enhance their medical understanding. The most frequently used electronic resources were Google images (61.7%) and Wikipedia (50.3%). Mostly, the students used YouTube (25.7%) for animations; Kaplan (27%) and Dr. Najeeb (15.6%) for video lectures. However, Audio lecture by Goljan (17.7%) was the only resource for podcast learning. Among discussion forums, Facebook groups (16.3%) were most popular and among static websites, Medscape (4.3%), PubMed (2.5%), WebMD (1.3%) were the most commonly used ones.Conclusion: All of the medical students used some form of eLearning in medical education in addition to their formal curriculum. This way of learning should be further implemented in the form of formal curriculum as e-learning modules for basic and clinical sciences to make learning easier, engaging and innovative for the 21st century learners.

BackgroundMedical curricula need to provide adequate knowledge on antimicrobial medicine use and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Such knowledge is critical in shaping correct attitudes and perceptions among future prescribers. However, the extent of preparation provided by medical curricula remains unknown.AimThe current study sought to determine knowledge, attitude and perception on antimicrobial use and AMR among final year medical students in Malawi.MethodsA descriptive cross-sectional study was undertaken among all final year medical students at the College of Medicine, University of Malawi in 2016. Total population sampling and self-administered questionnaires were used. Data were entered using Microsoft Excel and analysed with Epi info. Descriptive analysis for categorical data was done using frequencies and proportions, and for continuous data using measures of central tendency.ResultsThe response rate in this study was 95%. The mean and median aggregated scores were 7.2 and 7, respectively, for the 11 knowledge questions. Over 88% of the respondents answered more than half of the knowledge questions correctly. Respondents agreed that antimicrobials are overused both at national (50; 69%) and at hospital (52; 72%) levels.ConclusionThis study reports high aggregated knowledge scores on antimicrobial use and resistance with wide variations on correct knowledge scores per question. The study further shows varying level in attitudes and perceptions among medical students. Overall, there were gaps on antimicrobial use and knowledge of AMR which the medical curriculum should addresses.

Adequate knowledge regarding danger signs during pregnancy, child birth and postpartum period plays a vital role in safeguarding mothers as well as child health. This cross sectional study was conducted by purposively selected 262 pregnant women in two hospitals in Bogura district from 1st January to 31st December, 2018 with the aim to assess the knowledge of pregnant women on danger signs related to pregnancy and child birth. Data were collected with a semi-structured questionnaire through face-to-face interview. The mean age of the respondent’s was SD = 23.37 ± 4.47 years. Most of the respondents 61.4%, (n=161) knew about danger signs during pregnancy from health workers and 65.6 % (n=172) had poor knowledge regarding danger signs during pregnancy whereas 34.4% (n=90) respondents had good knowledge. Most of the respondents 61.5%, (n=161) understood danger signs during child birth and 68.7 % (n=180) had poor knowledge regarding danger signs during child birth. Among the respondents 40.5% (n=106) understood dang.er signs after child birth and only 12.2% (n=32) respondents had good knowledge regarding danger signs after child birth. Significant association was found between age of the respondents and level of knowledge regarding danger signs during pregnancy (p=0.0001). Health education on danger signs related to pregnancy and child birth should be imparted to all pregnant women to increase their knowledge regarding this issue.
