Soil fertility is a crucial factor determining the growth and yield of plants. The increase of nutrient content and availability in soil can be achieved by fertilization. A field experiment was conducted using a Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with two factors and three replications in order to study the effects of Mixed Source of Fertilizer (MSF) application on the nutrient contents in Vertisol and its relationship to the growth and yield of mustard. The first factor was the three MSF formulas (F1, F2, F3) and second factor was the doses of MSF (0; 2.5; 5.0; 7.5; 10 Mg ha-1) applied to the soil. At the end of the experiment, the soil pH, CEC, organic-C, total-N, available-P and exchangeable-K contents were measured. The results show that there are no significant differences on the soil chemical characteristics, such as pH, organic-C content, available-P, exchangeable-K, -Ca and -Mg measured after application of different MSF formulas to the soil. Meanwhile, the increase of MSF doses applied to the soil significantly increases organic-C content, total-N, available-P and exchangeable-K in the soil. The significant increase of available-P (by 29.13%) and total-N (by 24.1%) occured after application of MSF at 5.0 Mg ha-1 and the increase of exchangeable-K (by 50%) is achieved after application of 7.5 Mg ha-1, in comparison to that without MSF application. The height and fresh weight of mustard increase in accordance with the increase of MSF doses applied. The application of 10.0 Mg ha-1 MSF results in the highest height and fresh weight of the mustard up to 63.9% and 620%, respectively. The height and fresh weight of mustard are positively correlated to the total-N, available-P and exchangeable-K in the soil. The MSF is an alternative fertilizer that can be used to improve Vertisol fertility and plant growth.

Poultry litter is increasingly used as organic amendment in market gardening in Côte d’Ivoire. To know about the sustainability of this practice, its impacts on soil quality should be known. This study aimed at assessing the effect on soil fertility of composted poultry litter addition for 16 years following two distinct ways, and identifying soil parameters driving cucumber yield. Trials were laid out in a Fisher randomized block design with 3 treatments replicated 5 times each: Control (C), Surface-applied compost (SAC) and Buried compost (BC). Soil (0-20 cm) chemical characteristics and cucumber growth and yield parameters were measured. Values of all parameters were higher with compost addition compared to the control, except for the C:N ratio. SAC and BC showed similar values of organic C, total N, CEC, pH and available phosphorus. However, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+ and base saturation were higher in SAC than in BC. Relative to values in the control, the greatest changes in soil parameters were observed with exchangeable cations, followed by soil organic matter. Soil organic C and total N concentrations have doubled in SAC while Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+ increased at greater rate (702.4, 400.9 and 186.67% respectively). Also, cucumber growth parameters were the highest with compost addition compared to the control. Significant effect of the compost application way on cucumber was also observed: collar diameter, leaf area and fresh fruit yield in SAC (0.72±0.02 cm, 258.9±12.3 cm2, 11.1±1.3 t ha-1, respectively) were higher than in BC (0.56±0.01 cm, 230.2±2.5 cm2, 5.4±0.5 t ha-1 respectively). Fruit yields in SAC and BC were four times and twice higher than in the control (2.6±0.3 t ha-1), respectively. Cucumber growth parameters were determined by soil concentration in Mg2+ while yield was determined by Ca2+. Composted poultry litter should be promoted for a sustainable soil fertility management in vegetable farming systems.

The experiment was conducted at Horticulture Research Centre, Gazipur, Bangladesh, to study the effects of N, P, K, and S on growth, yield and nutrient content of strawberry following Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) method. There were 4 levels of different nutrients and there was a positive impact of each fertilizer combinations on yield, yield parameters and nutrient contents of BARI Strawberry except control treatment. The highest values of plant height (25.60 cm); number of leaves (21.66), flowers (125.33), fruits (12.35),destroyed fruits (11), fruit weight (215.10 g) plant-1 and fruit length (4.16 cm), fruit diameter (3.41cm), individual fruit weight (17.85 g) and fruit yield (11.50 t ha-1) were found in treatment of 115,40,110 and 25 kg ha-1NPKS, respectively. Among the fertilizers, the single effect of N (115 kg ha-1), P (40 kg ha-1), K (110 kg ha-1) and S (25 kg ha-1) gave maximum growth and yield of strawberry. The highest concentration of N, P, K and S were found in shoot and fruit of strawberry when N, P, K and S fertilizers were used 140,60,135 and 35 kg ha-1, respectively.J. Environ. One effort that can be done to improve soil fertility and crop yields is fertilization. Fertilization using a mixed source fertilizer (MSF) is an option to overcome the impact of inorganic fertilizer use and organic fertilizer drawbacks. This study aims to evaluate the effects of MSF application on the chemical properties of Inceptisol and rice yields. A field experiment was conducted using a completely randomized block design (RCBD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was the three formulas of MSF (F1, F2, F3) and the second factor was MSF doses (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10 Mg ha-1). The results show that there is no significant difference on the total soil N, available soil P, plant height and total number of tillers of rice plants applied with the three MSF formulas. The increased MSF doses applied significantly improve the soil chemical properties of Inceptisol and rice yields. The application of 10 Mg ha-1 MSF increases total- N (57.89%), available-P (29.13%), exchangeable-Ca and -Mg (117% and 250%, respectively), plant height (40%) and total number of tillers (43.2%) in comparison to those without MSF application. There are interaction effects between formulas and doses of MSF on the amount of exchangeable-K, organic-C content, and CEC of the soil and rice yields. The application of 10 Mg ha-1 MSF F3 results in better effects on the amount of exchangeable-K, organic-C content and CEC of the soil, and number of productive tillers and rice yields than the application of other MSF formulas. The MSF can be used as an alternatif fertilizer that can improve Inceptisol productivity.

Balanced fertilization is a pre-requisite for better rice production and it is necessary to determine optimum combination of nutrient elements for application. An experiment was conducted at the Soil Science Field Laboratory of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during Boro season to investigate the effects of reduced rates of phosphorus (P) and sulphur (S) on the growth, yield, nutrient content and uptake by rice. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications and eight treatments viz. T1: Control, T2: Recommended Fertilizer Dose (RFD), T3: RFD -20% P, T4: RFD-40% P, T5: RFD-20% S, T6: RFD-40% S, T7: RFD-20% PS and T8: RFD-40% PS. The recommended fertilizer doses were 125 kg N ha-1, 25 kg P ha-1, 70 kg K ha-1, 15 kg S ha-1 and 3 kg Zn ha-1 supplied from urea, TSP, MoP, gypsum and zinc sulphate, respectively. There was significant effect of reduced rates of P and S fertilizers on rice yield compared to control. The highest grain yield of 5.10 t ha-1 and straw yield of 7.02 t ha-1 were recorded from treatment T2 (RFD) that produced the maximum values of all the yield components and the highest content and uptake of nutrients. The performance of T2 and T3 (RFD - 20% P) was statistically similar in producing yield parameters, yields, nutrient contents and uptake by rice. Again, 20% reduced rate of S (T5) or of P and S (T7) caused significant yield reduction, poor yield parameters and less nutrient uptake compared to T2. Thus, the recommended fertilizer dose and the treatments where 20% P was reduced from the RFD are equally efficient in increasing yield as well as enhancing nutritional quality of rice. This reduction of chemical fertilizer could help lessen the cost of rice production with decreasing environmental risk. Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. March 2021, 7(1): 40-47

Effect of fertilizing manure nutrients saputra and intervals of administration on the growth and yield of cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens.L). The research objective was to determine the dose of fertilizer nutrients Saputra and intervals of administration on the growth and yield of cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescen L). Research carried out for ± 4 months, from September to December 2010, starting from land preparation to harvest, in the district. Samarinda Ilir, Samarinda, East Kalimantan. Research using randomized block design (RBD), with a 4 x 3 factorial analysis composed with 3 replications, the main factor is the dose Fertilizer Nutrients Saputra, which consists of 4 levels, ie without fertilizers (p0), 6 ml plant-1 is equivalent to 120 plot ml -1 (p1), 12ml plant-1 plant is equivalent to 240 ml -1 (p2) -1 plant 18ml equivalent to 360ml of plant-1 (p3), 24 ml of plants equivalent to 480ml plant -1 -1 ,, factor The second is the interval Giving Fertilizer Nutrients saputra which consists of three levels ie 7 DAP (a1), 14 DAP (a2), 21 DAP (a3). The results showed that fertilizer nutrients Saputra very real impact on the average age of flowering 80%, the average number of productive branches, the average number of fruit crops, the average fresh weight and the average yield per hectare, as well as significantly affected the average length of the best fruits in the treatment of p3: 2.96 cm. Effect of fertilizer NS intervals showed significant effect on plant height at 15 days after planting and the number of productive branches. As well as highly significant to the average fresh weight and yield per hectare is the highest a3 treatment: 4.04 tonnes / ha. NS interaction effects of fertilizer application significantly affected the plant height at 15 DAP and highly significant to the weight of the fruit and the result per hectare. Average yield per hectare is the highest p3a3 treatment: 8.19 tonnes / ha.

Abstract The erosion plot method for direct evaluation in agriculture became necessary to (1) quantify soil erosion on cocoa, areca and oil palm, (2) determine the most effective soil conservation, and (3) calculate nutrient content in sediment. The experiment was treated with three conservation practices and the conventional treatment as control in a completely randomised block design. The results showed for the areca land use, that soil conservation with ridges + maize produced the lowest erosion (1.68 t/ha). For cocoa land use, the ridges + groundnut treatment produced the lowest erosion (8.2 t/ha). For oil palm land use, the cover crop of Mucuna bracteata had lowest erosion yield (12.2 t/ha). Soil conservation techniques significantly affected the levels of organic C and available P under the cocoa land use, where ridges + maize have the lowest content of organic C and available P in soil sediment (1.03% and 0.69 ppm). Soil conservation at areca land use also has a significant effect on the levels of organic C and available N, but it did not affect significantly the levels of available P and exchangeable K sediments, where ridges + groundnut have lowest organic C and available N in sediment (1.4% and 0.18%). Furthermore, soil conservation on the land use of oil palm showed a significant effect on the levels of available P, but did not significantly affect the levels of organic C, available N and exchangeable K sediments. Soil conservation with cover crops Mucuna bracteata showed the lowest available P in sediments (0.86 ppm).

The success of the corn agro-industry is greatly influenced by fertilizeravailability. A notable effort to support that situation is to increase compost production through the utilization and processing of beef cattle and corn wastes. Thisresearch proposed to produce compost from the utilization of beef cattle and corn wastes by following the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The composting process was carried out by preparing several materials consisting of beef cattle manure (BCM), wet/dry stover (WS/DS), and EM4 solution. These materials were fermented anaerobically, then checked and stirred every three days.The fermentation was stopped after 40 days. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of five levels of compost materials treatments, namely P0, P1, P2, P3, and P4, with three replications. The parameters observed were the characteristics of cattle and corn waste, the physical feature of the compost, and the nutrient content of the compost (yield, water content, pH, P2O5, K2O, organic C, total N, and C/N ratio). P2 treatment (BCM:WS:DS:EM4 =1:2:1:1) produced compost with the best characteristics, namely blackish brown color and crumbly with slightly sour aroma. The yield obtained was 32.95%, water content was 10.08%, pH was 5.59, P2O5was 0.50%, K2O 1.26%, organic C was 52.34%, total N was 1.34% and C/N ratio was 39.06. These characteristics are by following under the SNI cheap, practical in manufacture and application in the field, and environmentally friendly.

The effect of Organic, Inorganic and Biofertilizer Package on the Properties of Soil and Yield of Land Kale on the Vertisol. This study aims to determine the effect of organic, inorganic and biofertilizer packages on the soil properties and yield of land kale (Ipomea reptana Poir) on the Vertisol. The experiment used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. Parameters observed consisted of total-N, available-P, available-K, organic-C, cation exchange capacity (CEC), base saturation, pH, permeability, bulk density, total microorganism, plant height, fresh weight of plants and oven dry weight. Statistical analysis using univariate, the effect of treatment seen based on the F test, if the treatment has a significant effect then proceed with the LSD test level of 5%. The results of variance analysis showed that the effect of the package of organic, inoganic and biofertilizers had a very significant effect on the  parameters of organic C, significantly effected the available-P of the soil and did not significantly effect the total-N, CEC, base saturation, pH , permeability, bulk density, total microorganism, and no significant effect on the parameters of land kale.

Organic farming is one of the management strategies that improve productivity of marginal uplands. The study aimed to: (1) evaluate effects of various organic-based fertilizers on the growth and yield of corn; (2) determine the appropriate combination for optimum yield; and (3) assess changes on the soil physical and chemical properties. Experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design, with 3 replications and 7 treatments, namely; T0=(0-0-0); T1=1t ha-1 Evans + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1; T2=t ha-1 Wellgrow + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1; T3=15t ha-1 chicken dung; T4=10t ha-1 chicken dung + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1; T5=15t ha-1 Vermicast; and T6=10t ha-1 Vermicast + 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1. Application of organic-based fertilizers with or without inorganic fertilizers promoted growth of corn than the control. But due to high infestation of corn silk beetle(Monolepta bifasciata Horns), its grain yield was greatly affected. In the second cropping, except for Evans, any of these fertilizers applied alone or combined with 45-30-30kg N, P2O5, K2O ha-1 appeared appropriate in increasing corn earyield. Soil physical and chemical properties changed with addition of organic fertilizers. While bulk density decreased irrespective of treatments, pH, total N, available P and exchangeable K generally increased more with chicken dung application.

AbstractThis study characterized the effect of green manures (February orchid, hairy vetch, rattail fescue and a no-green-manure control) and the termination method (flail or disk) on nutrient contents, enzyme activities, microbial biomass, microbial community structure of rhizosphere soil and vegetative growth of walnut tree. All three selected green manures significantly enhanced the water content, organic C, total N and available P. The rattail fescue significantly decreased the mineral N. Total organic C, total N, mineral N and available P were significantly greater under flail than under disk. Hairy vetch and February orchid significantly improved levels of soil β-glucosidase, N-acetyl-glucosaminidase and acid phosphatase activity, whereas rattail fescue improved only β-glucosidase activity. All of the green manures significantly decreased phenoloxidase activity. β-glucosidase, N-acetyl-glucosaminidase and acid phosphatase activities were significantly greater under flail relative to disk. The termination method had no significant effect on phenoloxidase activity. The different types of green manures and termination methods significantly altered the soil microbial biomass and microbial community structure. The green-manure treatments were characterized by a significantly greater abundance of Gram-positive (Gram +) bacteria, total bacteria and saprophytic fungi compared to the control. Hairy vetch significantly decreased the abundance of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) while February orchid and rattail fescue increased their abundance compared to the no-green-manure treatment. The abundance rates of Gram+ bacteria, actinomycetes, saprophytic fungi and AMF were significantly greater in soils under flail than under disk. In terms of vegetative growth of walnut tree, hairy vetch showed the greatest positive effects. The growth of walnut tree was significantly greater under flail relative to disk. Our results indicate that green-manure application benefits the rhizosphere soil micro-ecology, rhizosphere soil nutrient contents and tree growth. Overall, the hairy vetch and flail combined treatment is recommended for walnut orchards in northern China.
